When Bucky returned to his apartment, he didn't bother turning on the lights, he just left his gloves on the shelf with his jacket and walked to the windows. Steve came out of his bedroom a few minutes later and Bucky was still standing at the window watching the lights of the city.
"Hey Buck. You ok?"
"Yeah Steve. I'm actually really good."
Steve sat down on the couch and Bucky stayed by the window.
"So, how'd it go? Your first date since 1942."
Bucky shot Steve a glare at that comment and he just laughed. Then Bucky sat down in one of the chairs.
"It went really well."
He leaned forward and rested his elbows on his knees then steepled his hands.
"Then why do you look stressed?"
"Steve, what am I doing? Am I being a complete idiot about this?"
"About what?"
"Spending time with her. Taking her on a date. Pursuing her further."
"You really like her."
It wasn't a question, but Bucky replied,
"I really do. But…"
"But what Buck? She agreed to go on the date with you, didn't she? And you both had a good time?"
"She put her number in my phone."
"So why are you worried?"
"I kissed her too."
Steve leaned back on the couch with a smirk,
"Ooh you're in deep."
"Shut up, punk."
Steve let out a laugh.
"In all seriousness, she's clearly as into you as you are her."
Bucky let out a breath and dropped his head into his hands.
"You don't think it's weird that I like her? She's my old flame's granddaughter and I'm technically a 100-year-old former assassin."
"Buck, she doesn't really seem like the kind of dame that would say yes to dinner with you or put her number in your phone if she didn't want to or thought it weird. Take it from someone who didn't make the move when he should have. Don't let her go just because you're nervous other people may find in odd."
"You're right. It's just…shit Steve I haven't done this in forever."
Steve laughed,
"I'm suddenly reminded of that day in the pub we created the Howlin' Commandos."
"Way to stomp on my ego, you punk."
Steve just kept laughing as he got up and headed toward his bedroom. Bucky felt his phone vibrate in his pocket and pulled it out to find a message from 'Ruthie Wood'. He opened it and immediately started smiling.
'I had a wonderful evening. Thank you. I hope to see you again soon. Goodnight Sarge.'
'Thank you for joining me. I'll see you soon. Goodnight Ruthie.'
