CHAPTER 2: Decision

"Ms. Hofferson you will be paired with Mr. Haddock." Ms. Whitby stated and continued listing names. Hiccup looked over to see Astrid's eyes already on him. He felt some kind of pull, tug on him when he looked into those ocean blue eyes. He smiled shyly and waved but when he did so, Astrid seemed to get more pissed by the second so he looked away. What had he done wrong?

Did she know they were soulmates? Surely she wouldn't be so upset if she knew that. Maybe she just hasn't gotten her mark yet. He looked down at his desk feeling like he had done a crime by looking at Astrid so when the bell rang, he was the first to hop outta the classroom while all the other partners were talking. Little did he know, a certain blonde was watching him leave.

ASTRID POV

"And he just looked at me and waved! What am I supposed to do with that? He's so clumsy, he'll probably end up dropping the egg the second he gets it!" Astrid vented to her friend. Heather smirked.

"That's karma for you. That's exactly what you get for leaving me on read yesterday." The girls laughed.

"That's so not fair. Plus I had a perfectly reasonable excuse to." Astrid grinned at her friend.

"You know I don't think he's that bad. At least he's nice, ya know?" Heather tried to reason. Astrid shrugged.

"I guess. But I still don't like it." She said, stuffing her face with a gross cafeteria chicken nugget.

"Still don't like what?" Astrid looked over to see her boyfriend grabbing the chair and sitting next to her.

"Astrid's partnered with Hiccup for the Egg Project." Heather explained. Eret laughed as he slung his arm around his girlfriend's shoulders.

"Yikes babe. Have fun with that." Eret unslung his arms and walked to hang with his group of jocks.

"You know. I never liked him. He's always hanging out with his friends and looking at one of them rather weirdly."

Astrid shrugged. "So? They're on the football team together. They spend a lot of time together. They're probably just close friends."

Heather rolled her eyes. "If you say so. All I'm saying is if he wants to be your boyfriend he needs to be spending more time with you."

Astrid looked at her funny. "I mean I'm fine with it. I don't need to spend every day with him. We both need our space."

"Whatever." Heather sipped out of her juice box, looking at a certain someone.

HICCUP POV

Hiccup walked out of the cafeteria thinking about how he should approach this project since his flipping soulmate, Astrid Hofferson, is his partner. He was snapped back into reality when someone tapped on his shoulder.

"Hey Hiccup, guess who got a love note." Hiccup looked over to see his one and only friend, Fishlegs.

"What do you mean?" Hiccup asked, only half paying attention to the conversation.

"I opened my locker and I found a note saying that they liked my presentation." Fishlegs squealed and his eyes had a far away look in them. Hiccup just looked at him in confusion.

"I'm sorry to break it to ya bud but I don't think that's a love note." He put his hand on Fishlegs' shoulder and gave him a look of pity. "You're just delusional."

Fishlegs glared. "I am not. I have a secret lover somewhere out there. I will look high and low until I find them!"

"Alright, alright. I surrender. Now, I gotta question. Well more like a theory. If persay, your soulmate was your partner in a project about taking care of a child, how would one handle that?"

"Well since this is a theory, I would suggest that that person do one of two things. Either resist the urge to go out with them and avoid them as much as possible or just ask them out and give in to your instincts because your soulmark is something that is really hard to resist." Fishlegs responded.

"Alright, well are you still up to come over and game later tonight or nah because dad is still away on a business trip."

"Yep. Still up for it. Mind if we grab pizza before we go to your place later? Your cooking is good and all but I'd love some pizza that isn't the crappy school kind."

"Yeah sure. I'll see you later I guess because classes are about to start and I don't wanna be late."

"Alright then, see ya later Hiccup."

Once Hiccup walked off, he started to debate about what he should do. He was conflicted but he was also happy. Maybe I should just stay away from Astrid...
