Ello guys! So today, I decided to switch it up a bit with an Everlark (Katniss Everdeen x Peeta Mellark) fanfic. These characters are from Suzanne Collins' book trilogy, The Hunger Games. They're also based on the movies, but the connection between the two is a bit looser. Bc, unlike Shadowhunters, the TV adaptation actually follows the books' plot line.

Basically, in this fanfic I wrote about Peeta's actual proposal to Katniss. (Actual as in not for the Games or President Snow.) Enjoy!! ;)

Peeta POV:

It was a warm spring day here in the Meadow. There was not a single cloud in the sky, and the sun shone brightly down on his head. The Meadow floor was made up of brightly colored flowers, lush green grass, and other beautiful plants. He sighed, wishing he had brought some sort of drawing utensil and surface to capture the beautiful scene into a painting. His memory would have to do, though he doubted he could remember it all.

He decided to take a seat, right there in the grass. Katniss would be there any second now, if she wasn't late, of course. Peeta had asked her to meet him here earlier today, after she finished her hunting. So, he waited, patiently - he knew she would come at some point, she always did. He decided to take out the item in his pocket, it was a beautiful ring that Peeta planned to propose to Katniss with, for real this time. This time he proposed it wouldn't be for the Capitol, or for the late President Snow, it would be for love. The love he and Katniss had shared this past year. (Well, for him it was longer than that.)

All of the sudden, he heard the soft crunching of leaves to the right of him. Shoving the ring in his pocket, he stood and turned towards the direction of the noise. Upon seeing her, Peeta broke into a smile. Katniss was in her usual hunting jacket and trousers, and her hair was in its signature braid. Her brilliant gray eyes stared at him, and he could tell she was happy to see him as well. He started towards her, and upon reaching her, embraced her in a loving hug. She hugged him back, resting her head on his shoulder.

"Hey." She said, her voice somewhat muffled.

He pulled himself out of the hug, and looked into her eyes for a moment until he spoke: "Hey.., I- um.. had something to, uh.. ask you." He stammered out.

She smiled at him. "Well, then.. ask me."

"Uh-" Peeta didn't know how to ask her. He, surprisingly, couldn't figure out how to form the sentences in his head and convey them to her. "Uh,.. I- Katniss..." His voice trailed off as he desperately tried to think of what to say.

She cocked her eyebrows at him, and chuckled softly. "Peeta Mellark, at a loss for words? ... I don't believe it."

He laughed at this. Trying again, he cleared his throat and started to speak. This time the words came a little easier. "Katniss, I wanted to ask you a really important question." She nodded. "Uh, I know, technically, I've already asked you this before.. but, I wanted to ask you again. For real this time."

"Oh?" She seemed confused.

"The first time I saw you, when I first heard you, I knew I loved you right then and there. I knew you were the one." He put his hand in his pocket, wrapping his hand around the ring. "And after everything that's happened to us, with the Games, Snow, the rebellion.. everything..." He noticed that she flinched at this, probably remembering her late sister Prim. "I still believe this is true. In fact, my love for you grew even stronger because of all that. Now, I don't care if you answer me right now, or if you need time to think.. I just needed to get this off my chest. I don't care if you tell me no. I'll still love you."

Katniss was definitely catching onto him. "Peeta...?"

Slowly taking his hand out of his pocket, with the ring in his hands, he got down on one knee. "Katniss Magenta Everdeen, will you marry me?"

Katniss POV:

Her whole world seemed to stop when he asked her. She had figured out what he was asking her by the time he was done with his speech, but she still felt surprised when he asked her. She didn't know what her answer was, truly. Part of her wanted to get married to him, to spend the rest of her days as his wife. But another part of her, still felt that same fear she felt during the rebellion. That part of her despised marriage, thought that she wouldn't be able to love someone like that. She knew what getting married to him would probably mean, it would probably mean that he would want to have kids in the near future. The idea of kids still terrified her, the thought of them sending her mind straight to Prim - Prim's name being called during the Reaping, and herself volunteering as tribute, to save her sister. To keep her alive, which she had still failed at.

She must've been just standing there for a while, because Peeta had quite anxiously asked her: "Katniss, you ok?"

Realizing that she'd just been staring at his chest not saying anything, she looked up at him and into his beautiful cobalt blue eyes. "Yeah.. I'm alright..."

Peeta had a look of concern on his face. "You sure? You kind of spaced out there."

She shook her head. "I don't know, Peeta... the idea of marriage just brings up some conflicting parts of me that I don't usually acknowledge." Katniss then explained to him what she meant by that, and he nodded understandingly.

"Take your time, Katniss." He told her. "I don't mind waiting for you."

She felt awful when he told her this. Haymitch was right - she could live a hundred lifetimes and still not deserve Peeta, even after he'd been hijacked. She didn't want to make him wait, but she really needed to sort through all of the conflicting thoughts in her brain before she could answer him honestly. "Thank you, Peeta."

He just smiled at her, and pulled her into a soft, affectionate kiss. She kissed him back, pulling his hands around her waist and looping her own around his neck. When they finally pulled apart, Katniss asked him: "I'll always love you, no matter what my answer is: Real or not real?"

Peeta then answered: "Real."

2 weeks later.

Katniss and Peeta sat in the Meadow, on a picnic blanket, hands clasped together. It was a beautiful day, just like that day two weeks ago. They had just finished their raisin bread and strawberries. Now, they just sat there in silence, enjoying each other's company. That's when it came to Katniss: she knew what her answer would be. Finally, Katniss had realized that this is how she wanted to spend the rest of her life. But not as Peeta's girlfriend, as his wife.

"Peeta?" Katniss crawled in front of him, and sat there on her knees.

"Yeah?" He looked a bit confused.

"Yes." She blurted out, not even saying anything else beforehand. But, she knew he understood what she was saying yes to.

Peeta's whole face lit up at this, and he immediately bounced up onto his feet. "Really?" He grabbed her and pulled her up to a standing position. "You mean it, Katniss?"

All she could do was nod and smile brightly at him, of course. Peeta laughed, picked her up and spun her around. Katniss laughed to, looping her arms around his neck. She pulled him into a kiss, which he happily he returned.

Katniss was the first to break away. She had realized that they'd forgotten about something. "Wait, Peeta.. what about the ring?" She definitely remembered seeing like one when he actually proposed.

"Oh, right." He pulled it out of his pocket, and took Katniss' left hand in his. He slid the ring on her ring finger. "There!"

Peeta immediately pulled her back into another kiss, this one deepening quickly. Soon enough, they found themselves back in the bedroom of their home in District Twelve's Victor Village. Katniss was laughing, and Peeta was kissing her all over. Eventually, he whispered into Katniss' ear, asking her: "We are going to get married. Real or not real?"

She whispered back: "Real."

Not going to lie, this is my favorite fanfic yet. I really loved writing this, and I really hope you all like it. Bye!

Edit: I just reread this and realized how badly written it was - sorry abt that, guys.
