Chapter 1
It had been a few years since Bruce had first found the Hulk. Since then, his life had changed from being his worst nightmare, to being bare able to being okay.
The Hulk was a part of him now and although he almost always hated having another voice in his head he now, for some reason, couldn't imagine living without it. Of course, he became the voice in the back of the Hulk's head when the Hulk came out.
Almost all adults still ran in terror from the Hulk, and he still left destruction behind him where ever he went, but recently he had been listening to Bruce and seeing the good in helping people.
These days though the Hulk only came out when Bruce let him. They had become partners in crime in a way and Bruce almost liked it though still hated the Hulk's almost constant need for violence and anger.
Nobody on Earth knew where the Hulk went when he disappeared or who he turned back into but that was all about to be tested to the limit.
The books he had written on Gamma radiation meant that Bruce didn't have to work and so spent most of his time in his dingy, messy, small apartment researching and doing experiments which were not just on himself. This meant that Bruce had no friends though he still tried to use his medical training to help those that he saw in need. For example, only the other day he had come out of his flat to see a woman suffering from what could only be asthma so he went out and bought her an inhaler.
Although he isolated himself off from the outside world, he still had the Hulk, a computer and email. At the moment he was really regretting two of those things and surprisingly one of them was not the Hulk.
Bruce had heard all about Tony Stark, I mean who hasn't? Recently though he had started seeing the man with others. Others who were extraordinary and willing to help people. The email had been addressed to him personally and was oddly polite so he could only assume that somebody changed parts of it before it got sent or someone (who was not Tony Stark) wrote it.
Apparently, a weapon which emitted high waves of gamma radiation had been stolen and he was needed to help track it down and dismantle it without triggering the weapon which could turn nuclear if the wrong buttons were pushed or the wrong wires were cut.
Boring. I want food.
Bruce sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose before heading to the kitchen. In all honestly, he too was hungry.
He had received the email over an hour ago and still had no idea what to send back. There was no way that he was willing to risk his secret being discovered but this opportunity was just too good to miss. Also, he knew that if he didn't turn up then a red headed Russian spy was going to end up stalking him or becoming his new neighbour.
Instead of trying to think he just typed back the first things that came to mind and sent the email.
Tomorrow would either be the day that starts the end of his days or the day that starts the rest of his life.
Papers were scattered around his floor and instead of tidying them up he left them be and jumped over them stepped between the gaps in order to get to the phone that was in the kitchen.
This fun game!
Bruce sighed again before saying,
"Not a game Hulk."
Most nights he ordered a takeaway and tonight was no different. The 2 pizzas arrived within 10 minutes and Bruce tipped the pizza delivery boy before closing the door.
None of the Hulk's abilities transferred to him but part of his hunger did. Bruce had done experiments to try and discover why this was, but in the end, he had decided that it was a psychological and mental thing rather than a physical thing. With the Hulk being in the back of his head twenty-four seven, he was always hungry and always demanded that Bruce eat.
The pizzas were soon gone and Bruce was quickly back to busying himself in his research much to the Hulk's annoyance. However, it didn't take him long to realise that he was never going to be able to concentrate on what he was writing and so just gave up entirely and walked over to his bed before collapsing on top of it, still fully clothed, and falling asleep.
No alarm was needed the next morning to wake him up though Bruce was happy to find that the Hulk was being quieter than usual because of how early it was.
For once he changed his clothes and actually had a shower, which made him feel more alert and ready for the day ahead.
He picked up his bag before rifling through it to make sure that nothing in it could connect him to the Hulk. In the end he pulled out about 15 sheets of research and one blood vial before the bag was deemed okay.
The walk to the Avengers Tower, as it was now called, was not particularly long but very boring for the Hulk as he had to watch all of the worst-case scenarios that Bruce could think of on the way there.
This boring. Hulk get there way faster.
"Hulk would also cause a massive scene and get me in trouble."
It was too early in the morning for anyone to really be up and so thankfully no one heard him. Bruce however did hear the Hulk grumbling in his head for the rest of the walk there.
It took him 10 minutes before he was standing in front of the tower doors. Pulling them open, he felt a rush of warm air hit him in the face, but it felt nice and unfroze his freezing ears.
There was no one in the room apart from a lady who was behind the desk near the door, so he walked over to her.
"Umm. Excuse me. Yeah, I have a meeting with Tony Stark."
"What is your name?"
"Bruce Banner."
He was rubbing his hands nervously while the receptionist checked her computer. The Hulk was too busy thinking about how pretty her shiny necklace was to even notice how nervous Bruce was. The Hulk was like a magpie with anything shiny and it was honestly a wonder how no one had figured it out yet.
Bruce didn't hear the elevator doors open or see the man who stepped out of them until he spoke,
"I am glad that you made it. We all thought you weren't coming."
Idiot.
Bruce found it really hard not to retort to what the Hulk had just said but he managed it.
"It is 7 in the morning; I didn't realise that everyone was expecting me at 6am."
"Everyone else arrived yesterday."
"You only sent me the email yesterday?"
"So I did,"
Tony walked over to Bruce before sticking out his hand for Bruce to shake.
"Tony Stark."
"Bruce Banner."
"Well, I guess we should get to work then."
Author's note: Someone asked me to write and fanfiction about Bruce and gave me this wonderful idea. I hope you like it so far :)
