Chapter 2
The two walked together to the elevator and got in it before Bruce decided to ask his questions.
"So, what am I tracking?"
"It is an alien object."
"And you need me because...?"
"You are a Scientist."
"Okay then?"
The elevator doors opened to reveal a corridor. Loads of doors were on either side of it and Bruce knew from the setup, that each one led into a lab.
"Your lab is at the end and I have all the best toys."
Tony led Bruce to a door on the right of the end of the corridor and opened it. Bruce walked into a huge room and was pleasantly surprised to find it tidy. There was a work bench in the middle of the room and all the equipment he would ever need scattered around the sides
The collection of equipment was impressive but instead of taking his time to admire it, Bruce decided to get straight to work. The quicker he got the job done the quicker he would be out of here and the less chance his secret would end up being discovered.
"I need to know roughly the size of the object before I will be able to track the gamma radiation that it emits."
Instead of answering with words, Tony pulled up a holographic screen in front of them before picking on one of his files and opening it.
There on the screen was a missile, but the dimensions on the sides showed that it was actually a lot smaller than a missile and was about the same size (length wise) as half a tie just a different shape.
Bruce quickly got to work and was surprised not only to find the Hulk quiet for once, but also that Tony Stark stayed to help him.
Between the two of them they managed to locate the missile in under 5 hours but for some reason when Tony Stark rushed out of the room to round up the other Avengers to go and get the missile Bruce felt a longing to stay. It had been years since he had collaborated on a project with anyone.
He had been told that the Avengers, as they appeared to be calling themselves now, would be back tomorrow with the missile for him to deactivate so he decided to head home and go back tomorrow morning.
It didn't take him long to gather up his things and head back down in the elevator. He walked through the reception which was slightly busier now than earlier and back into the cold air of the day.
Bruce job done so Hulk job now!
He knew it was dangerous but since the Hulk had, for the first time ever, been quiet-ish during his time at the Avengers Tower, he decided that he might as well let the Hulk out. Besides if he didn't the Hulk would just get angry and then say things that would anger Bruce and then the Hulk would end up taking control anyways.
As quickly as he could he walked to the abandoned warehouse which was a few miles away from the Avengers Tower. He checked to make sure that no one was watching before he let the Hulk takeover.
Like usual, Bruce felt the feeling of being pushed aside in his own mind. He was no longer in control but could see and feel all that was going on. In a way he had become a puppet with the Hulk now pulling the strings.
"HULK GO SMASH!"
No remember what we talked about? Hulk only smash if it is to save someone.
"But that boring!"
Bruce sighed but said nothing else because he knew that the Hulk would listen to him when the time came.
The ground beneath them started to move as the Hulk started to run. The 15-minute walk for Bruce only took the Hulk 5 minutes though he was angry to find no crime immediately.
With Bruce's direction the Hulk headed over to the place that Bruce had found to be the place to go for illegal weapons, drugs and just all-round crime.
From there it didn't take the Hulk long to find a man with a gun who was aiming it at a young boy. Quickly and easily the Hulk grabbed the gun out of the man's hand and crushed it into a lump of metal.
Anger was flowing through him as he roared at the man who then proceeded to faint. The Hulk then grabbed the man by the ankle and started to drag him out of the street and towards a police station. Just before he left, the Hulk saw the boy that he had saved smile at him.
By 9pm there were 20 dangerous people in cells and the daylight was finally dwinderling. The Hulk's anger and frustration was now almost gone so he walked back to the abandoned warehouse and allowed Bruce to gain control again.
Bruce was now becoming more confident in allowing the Hulk to make an appearance once in a while, since he had managed to gain some control over his anger and his strength. Tonight, was a good night, since no one had been seriously injured at the hands of the Hulk though Bruce had had the feeling of something or someone watching them.
With the Hulk's anger quenched he slept better that night but still ordered his usual takeaway before bed. Tonight, it was Chinese.
The apartment was in more of a mess than yesterday when Bruce woke up. He had ended up sleeping once again in his clothes which was becoming an awful habit of his.
He decided to tidy the mess up later but even the Hulk knew that it would never get done.
Without any sense of urgency, he walked to the Avengers Tower before ignoring the receptionist and just walking straight towards the elevator and getting in it.
The Hulk was complaining, but that was to be expected, especially since they were on their own and nothing was around that would stimulate the Hulk's mind.
Instead of just being met with Tony, when he walked into the lab that he had been working in yesterday, he was also met with the red headed spy he had seen on TV. She was sucking some drink up through a straw but was wearing normal clothes instead of the black tactical gear that she was always seen in.
There was no doubt in his mind that the red headed spy knew he was there, but she kept her eyes on a sheet of paper in front of her. Tony was also staring at something, but Bruce could see that it was the plans he had managed to get a hold of for the gamma emitting weapon.
Without looking up Tony waved his hand between Natasha and Bruce before saying,
"Bruce Natasha, Natasha Bruce."
"Yeah hi."
"Hi."
Bruce understood Tony's obsession with the paper in front of him but not Natasha's, who had not even looked up to great him.
Instead of asking he did a very not Bruce thing which he later blamed on the Hulk's demands to know what was going on. He walked over to Natasha and looked over her shoulder at the piece of paper.
She snatched it away and out of his view so quickly that he only got to see the title. Bruce could see the slight smile that Natasha sent him, but his mind was now working at a mile a minute so didn't respond. He could only hope that his face didn't convey his shock and worry.
Underlined at the top of that page in bold had been the words The Hulk.
