By the time the train pulled up outside of Hogwarts, Gale had become a popular parlor game by the other students.

They would come to their car in pairs or small groups, asking what they were thinking or what who thought of who.

It's pitiful, really, Gale thought, that they are so concerned with what everyone thinks of them.

As they finally left the train, everyone knew the first year who could read minds. This year was already off to a good start. She had four followers and everybody loved her.

The five loaded into the boats, only to have another girl join them. She was extremely tall, almost to Sirius' height, and extremely plain.

"What house are you all hoping for?" The girl asked in a surprisingly high voice.

James crossed his legs. "Anything but Slytherin."

"My brother's in Slytherin," Sirius replied grimly. "I personally hope for Gryffindor."

"Hufflepuff, I think," Peter said.

When Remus remained silent, Gale piped up. "I personally don't care what I'm in, so long as it's not Ravenclaw. My brother's in there and I intend to ignore him."

"What about him?"

Gale looked to Remus. "I think that he likes the idea of Gryffindor." She didn't mention that he doubted he would make the cut.

Gale looked around the Great Hall, amused by the peasants that were the older students. Laughing, cheering, talking.

She payed no attention whatsoever to the headmaster giving his talk.

Welcome... yadda yadda yadda... four houses... blah blah... sorting hat...

She got the gist of it. And having the absolute last alphabetical name in the school, she had plenty of time to gather what she needed to do.

"Black, Sirius."

It was quite a while before the hat shouted out "Gryffindor!"

"Lupin, Remus."

Gryffindor. No hat stall, much to his surprise.

"Petigrew, Peter."

Gryffindor, with a bit of a lag.

"Potter, James."

Gryffindor, again.

There was no way that Gale wasn't going to be in Gryffindor as well, seeing that they accepted just about everybody.

At long last, Gale was called to the front. All eyes were on her, as she was the last of the first years.

Another Zymin. Are you the last? said the hat.

"Fortunately."

I see. You're an ambitious one, aren't you? Clever, cunning, brave. And a bit agressive.

"I've been told."

But you're also very loyal, trustworthy, and kind when you feel the need to be.

Gale didn't know how to respond.

This is one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make. You don't belong in any house, Gale. You fit in them all.

"Just so long as I'm not in Ravenclaw."

You don't want Gryffindor? All of your companions are there.

"It matters not what house they're in. If they are loyal, status doesn't mean a thing. They're not worth it if it does."

With every word you say, you make this decision harder.

Gale looked around the room. How long had she and the hat been talking? Was everyone mad about the time she was taking?

I take opinions, Gale. What house do you want?

"I'm indifferent."

Then I'll decide where you best belong.

"That is your job."

"SLYTHERIN!"

She stood up, confident, and stole a look to her friends from the train. Remus looked on the verge of tears, Peter and Sirius indifferent. But James was angry.

Gale walked over to the cheering Slytherins, happy to have a place that she belonged.

I knew that Gale belonged in a different house from the boys, so here we are! She needed a long hat stall, I think, because of her unique personality.
