Jazz walked into Prowl's office. He found his friend sitting at his desk with a flyt, a small, pterodactyl-like creature, sitting on his outstretched arm. Prowl was feeding it something out of his hand.
"You wanted to see me, Prowler?" Jazz asked.
"Yes", Prowl stood. The creature made a flapping motion with it's wings and climbed further up Prowl's arm. "I'm not going to drop you", he chuckled.
Jazz smiled. He wasn't sure what had made Prowl buy the flyt for a pet, but at least Green made him happy.
"I'm heading out to Tyger Pax to check on some Decepticon activity". Prowl said as he stepped out from behind the desk. "I was wondering if you'd watch Green while I'm gone".
"Thought you was gonna use her as a lookout on missions". Jazz said.
"She's not ready yet". Prowl rubbed the flyt's head. "But she's getting there. Aren't you?" The flyt closed her eyes, clearly enjoying the attention. "I don't want to take her into a combat area yet and you're the only one I even remotely trust to take care of her".
"Well…I guess I can". Jazz said. "How long you gonna be gone?"
"Couldn't say. Could be a couple of days". Prowl sat Green on her perch by his desk. "There's a box of Skitter under the desk when she gets hungry. You can take her perch to your quarters". He reached a hand out to Green and she bumped her head into it. "I'm gonna miss you",
"I'll miss you too, Prowler". Jazz said jokingly.
"I wasn't talking to you". Prowl grumbled.
"I figured that much".
"I take her outside everyday for fresh air. There's a harness and leash on the desk". Prowl gestured.
"Alright. See ya, buddy".
Prowl left the office.
"Well now lil' lady, how about we get you settled in your new room?"
Jazz reached out to Green and she snapped at his hand.
This was going to be fun.
Half an hour later, Jazz stood in his quarters watching Green clean her wings. It had taken a while for him to calm her down enough to move her.
"Well, now that's done, guess I can do some reports". Jazz sat on his bed and began writing on a data pad. Green flew off her perch and went to the door. She flapped her wings and made a low chirping noise. Jazz paid no attention. Green increased her flapping and chirping.
"What's with all the noise? Oh, you want out? Well I'm kinda busy right now, can ya wait?"
Green cocked her head.
A knock came on the door.
Jazz picked up Green and sat her on the perch before opening the door.
"Optimus sent these reports to look over". Perceptor said, handing Jazz a stack of data pads.
"Okay, I'll have 'em done in a few minutes". Jazz said.
Perceptor left and Jazz went back to his work, not noticing he had left the door slightly open.
But Green did.
She hopped out into the hall.
A little while later, Jazz stood and stretched.
"Okay, Greenie, ready to go for a walk?"
Jazz looked around. "Green? Where you at?"
It was then Jazz noticed the open door.
"Oh no".
He ran into the hall.
"Green! Green, c'mon girl!" He ran up the hall calling and whistling.
Jazz bumped into Cliffjumper.
"Sorry, Cliff". Jazz apologized. "Uh...have you seen anything flyin' around?"
"You lost Green didn't you?" Cliffjumper smirked.
"I didn't lose her, she just ran off on me!"
"I'll help you look for her".
"Thanks CJ".
An hour later, Jazz and Cliffjumper had been all over the base and had found no sign of Green.
"Prowl is gonna kill me". Jazz fretted.
"Maybe she got outside". Cliffjumper suggested.
"Then no tellin' where she is!"
The two Autobots walked outside calling for Green.
Suddenly, Cliffjumper stopped and pointed to a nearby tree.
"There she is!" He said.
"Thank goodness". Jazz muttered, looking at Green, who sat on a branch cleaning her wings again. "Shimmy on up there an' grab 'er, Cliff".
"What?!"
"You're smaller than I am".
"Not by much!"
"Go on!" Jazz gave Cliffjumper a shove.
Cliffjumper made his way up the tree, complaining the whole time.
"Do you know how many years it's been since I climbed a tree? And I was never very good at it. Anyway, you should be the one doing this, you're the one that let her escape".
"Stop carrying on and get her!" Jazz yelled.
Cliffjumper reached the branch Green was sitting on and crawled along it. The flyt hopped back a few steps, out of his reach.
"C'mon Green, here girl…"
"That's it, Cliff, we almost got 'er!"
Green hopped back a few more times. Cliffjumper reached out a little farther and suddenly felt himself slipping. Before he could catch himself, he fell off the branch and hit the ground with a thud.
"What happened?!" Jazz asked. "We almost had 'er!"
"We lost our balance!" Cliffjumper snapped.
Green flew up onto a higher branch.
"Stupid bird". Cliffjumper mumbled. "I'm not climbing up there again".
"We won't have to". Jazz said. "I got an idea".
Cliffjumper watched Jazz race back into the base and in a few minutes return with a piece of Skitter in his hand.
"Come on Greenie girl, I got some Skitter for ya!"
Green cocked her head.
"Come on Green!" Jazz begged. "Do you want Prowl to kill me?"
After a moment, Green flew out of the tree and landed on Jazz's arm to eat her snack.
"That was a close one". Jazz said, gently grabbing Green.
"I'd take her back to your quarters and leave her there until Prowl comes back". Said Cliffjumper.
"Sounds like a plan". Jazz said. "Thanks for the help, Cliff".
The next day, Jazz sat on his bed feeding Green when he heard a knock on the door.
"Come in". He called, wrapping his hands around Green.
"There's my girl!" Prowl said, entering the room.
With a chirp of delight, Green flew over to Prowl and landed on his shoulder. She began rubbing her beak on the side of Prowl's head.
"I missed you, too". He cooed. "Did you have any trouble?"
"T-trouble?" Jazz stammered. "No! None at all!"
Prowl stared at him a moment. "Well, thanks for watching her".
"No problem man! Anytime!" Jazz was secretly hoping Prowl never made him watch Green again.
That night, Prowl sat at his desk with Green on his shoulder feeding her bits of Skitter.
"Red Alert sent me the security tapes to look over, you want to watch?"
Green opened her mouth, begging for another treat.
Prowl chuckled and fed her as he pressed the play button. One camera in particular caught his interest. It showed Green hopping out of Jazz's quarters and later it showed Jazz frantically running into the hall. Prowl frowned and noticed another camera showing Green finding an open window and flying outside.
"JAZZ!"
