Hey Descendants!
Fans of Evie and Dizzy… Are you ready for a fashion montage? We hope so, this next scene is a little choppy, but we really wanted to get the best parts of a girl's day without the chapter dragging.
We hope you enjoy.
-Dark-
A few days later…
"Come on you two. It's not like we're about to run the tombs. We're getting a spa day." Evie pouts as she half drags Mal and Hyades down the street, "D, come on, you love letting Dizzy pamper you." She tries to persuade her.
"You're right." Hyades sucks in a deep breath before she smiles, "A spa day with Dizzy sounds good."
"Good?" Evie scoffs, "Try amazing." My Dizzy can make anyone look beautiful." She turns her glare on Mal, "Even someone with split ends who doesn't care about her daily skincare routine."
"Give it a rest E. I'm here, aren't I." Mal rolls her eyes, "Why the fuck do people throw parties on this damn isle is beyond me. It's not like anyone actually has fun at them, or can have fun."
"People have fun at parties Mal." Evie tightens her grip around their arms as the Curl up and Dye finally comes into view, "You simply refuse to let your hair down enough to enjoy the admiring looks and party politics. Not to mention the clothes I've put together for us. We're going to rock this party." She shakes her hair back behind her shoulders and fights the wrinkle inducing grin on her face.
Mal rolls her eyes, "Fuck Freddie and her damn invitations."
Evie glares at Mal, her eyes flashing a warning before she turns to Hyades, "Besides, this will be a nice way for us to all catch-up. You've been gone since the night you busted out of the hangout."
"Yeah, sorry about that." Hyades shifts under her hand, "I just, I had to go talk to Yensid is all."
Mal tilts her head to the side before she looks across Evie, "You had to talk to an adult so you ran into a fucking thunderstorm?"
"Oh look, Dizzy's waiting for us." Hyades smiles as she lifts her free arm to wave.
"EVIE!" Dizzy jumps up and down several times as she claps in excitement before she takes off towards them. "Deez!"
"Dizzy!" She smiles broadly. Her concern over Mal's foul mood and Hyades' strange behavior evaporates at the frizzy-haired stylist. She loved her friends, she really did, but no one could dissipate her darker emotions like the little girl rushing forward to her. "So glad you had time for us today."
"I'm so excited you're here!" Dizzy squeals in delight before her face turns thoughtful, "And Granny was strangely happy to make the time available."
"Great." Mal snarks, with a roll of her eyes.
Evie shoots her a glare over Dizzy's head with a small huff. And Mal wondered why Dizzy was never excited to see her. Who would with a reception like that? She shakes her head with disappointment. "This is my first spa day in months Mal. Don't. Ruin. It."
"I'm glad your Granny is finally letting you take on customers. You rock fashion almost as much as Evie." Hyades smiles as she holds out her arms for a hug.
"Thanks!" Dizzy jumps into the hug before she backs up and runs her hands through Hyades' hair, "Are you gonna let me do something about this? I mean I know it's natural, but come on. You would look amazing with more blue and less white, maybe a few streaks of another color too."
"Ooh and some layers too." Evie chimes in. "Mature her hair a bit."
Mal snorts, "She's hardly older than Dizzy. Mature?"
"Excuse me?!" Evie responds haughtily, "Did Deez not just become a lady a few months ago?"
"All you today Dizzy." Hyades quickly talks over Evie, "Whatever you think would look good. You've got my full confidence."
"Really?" Dizzy lovingly plays with the ends of Hyades' hair as she looks the other girl over critically, "You really mean I can go all the way?"
"I don't know what that means, but sure." Hyades chuckles, "Sounds fun."
Evie smiles brightly at Hyades. "Now that's the wicked attitude I've been expecting!" Finally. Some enthusiasm. She swore these two were so moody lately. She just wanted to lighten the heaviness that seemed to be following the two of them. And though Mal wouldn't admit it, and D didn't know better, a spa day was just what the two of them needed.
Mal frowns, "Is that a good idea D? You don't even know what the works are."
"I trust Dizzy and Evie." Hyades shrugs.
"Mhmm." Mal murmurs still clearly concerned before she turns to Dizzy. "I wouldn't go too short with that one." She thrusts her thumb at Hyades.
"Of course not, D looks ethereal with longer hair. Now let's go, come on then." Dizzy grabs Evie and Hyades by the hand and pulls them into the shop.
Evie quickly grabs Mal by the elbow before they disappear into the shop, "You heard her Mal, now."
"I don't remember making you leader for a day," Mal grumbles under her breath as she's pulled in.
"Honey it's a spa day, what did you expect? I had to drag you here." Evie tuts her tongue.
"No, you're getting a make-over, so you can't see anything until it's all over." Dizzy frowns before she turns away from Hyades and to start setting up bottles and tools on a small wheeled table.
"But-" Mal begins to argue.
"Mal. Keep trying me, I dare you." Evie glowers at their leader. "You wouldn't know the difference between a blender and a powder brush, little miss tomboy. Don't act like I don't know about the princess hiding deep in there, or I'll drag her out kicking and screaming."
"Well, just, you know, keep it me." Mal glares at Evie before she sits back in her chair, "Nothing like, huge."
"We don't have enough time in the shop to do anything else Mal." Evie blinks at her innocently. "Not with your pores looking as oily as they do, the dirt under your nails, the fade of your color, and don't even get me started on your split ends. It's called conditioner Mal, use it."
"I've got plenty of herbal masks. T stopped by a while ago and dropped off a whole bunch of new stuff for me to use. I was thinking scrubs and steams before masks and polishes. I've even got a great conditioner to help get hair ready for dye."
Mal looks at Dizzy wearily, like hell she was putting something that kid made on her face. Evie wasn't wrong. She knew she wasn't the most beautiful girl on the isle, but she knew she wasn't ugly either. "Did T find them, or make them?"
"We made them together," Dizzy excitedly explains as she scoops different goops out of jars, "and I think Carlos helped out with some of the bases. But they got really popular once I tried them on my mother and she loved the results."
Mal's eyes narrow. "Well, I guess if Carlos and you helped- And since they're tested, I guess it's okay. "
"There's the Mal I knew was underneath that nasty attitude."
"At least we don't have to drink them." Hyades sighs in relief.
"Why would you drink anything that kid made?" Mal scoffs, she may not be able to use magic, but they talked about the basics of potions in magic one-oh-one. And what she learned from it was to never touch any of the plants on this shit hole. Fucking tard had managed to do shit even the adults didn't dare too. Ugh. She wasn't sure why it pissed her off, but it did.
"Reasons." Hyades shrugs before she leans back in her chair, letting out a squeak when Dizzy kicks a pedal and her chair flattens into more of a cot.
"Sorry." Dizzy grimaces as Evie and Mal laugh.
"Uh-huh." Mal shakes her head. "I wouldn't drink that shit even if it would bring down the barrier. That fucking freak messes with too much shit."
"T's not a freak." Hyades breaths out before she smiles at Dizzy, "Ready when you are."
Evie furrows her brow as she looks between Mal and Hyades, but she quickly smooths her face back out.
Mal lifts her brow as she looks to Hyades. She hadn't scorned her for calling T a freak in a long while. So though it wasn't new, it did bother her. Why was she suddenly so up and arms again? Did it have something to do with T's new attitude? Or was it something else entirely? It bothered her she couldn't ask. Not with Evie and Dizzy around.
Evie hums prettily as she bounds up to Mal and leans down. "If you don't lighten up, I'll pluck the bushes you call brows instead of waxing them."
Mal glares up at Evie before she slaps her hands over her forehead. Fucking Evie. The girl could be a monster when she wasn't getting her way. She knew from experience that Evie was being dead serious. She holds up her hands. "Got it. Consider it one-eightied"
"So I've put together this very edgy looking number for D here. I mixed a lot of fabrics to do it, but I think the risk paid off. Look at how well the ice blues, dark blues, and blacks complement the small amounts of hot pink I got my hands on." Evie pours over her latest fashion conquests with Dizzy, basking in the adoration and idolization.
Dizzy lets out a whoosh of breath in admiration. "Whoah! It's so beautiful! Deez is going to look gorgeous in that! Ten out of ten as usual. I can definitely work with that. And that color of pink will go amazing with her complexion. Should I add a bit to her hair? Or should we just accent it with her nails and makeup?"
"Let's keep her hair in blues. You're so right about the washed-out look. Let's glitz her nails with the matching pink, maybe add some sparkle?"
Dizzy claps in excitement. "Of course! I can work with that. Oh! And I made some new jewelry that could be painted that color. T-" Dizzy blushes as she glances at Mal warily, relieved when she sees the girl exactly where she left her and Deez. "Dropped off a bunch of it that Auradon didn't want anymore but I managed to fix them so they're more our style."
"That's my girl!" Evie grins happily before she pulls Dizzy in closer, "You are the perfect fashionista-lette." She announces proudly before she moves her lips closer to Dizzy's ear, "And we'll just keep the last part to ourselves for now."
Dizzy nods her head in understanding. "So, I'll go start on Hyades. Did you want to start doing Mal's nails? I got my hands on the most awesome shade of acid green to go with the shade of purple she usually likes when I found out about the Howler."
"Perfect." Evie's eyes widen as her lips curl into a wide smile. Talking fashion with Dizzy was one of her all-time favorite things to do. The two of them played well off each other, but more than how talented Dizzy was, it was how sweet she was. "It'll go wonderfully with the outfit I made for her."
"Can I see?" Dizzy asks enthusiastically.
Evie places a hand over her heart. This little girl got her on so many levels. No one else got nearly as excited as her over her new styles. C, D, and T tried. They tried. And she appreciated it. She did. But still, Dizzy didn't look like she was in pain coming up with the right responses. "Of course. And then I'll show you the one I made for me… And then, surprise, I made an outfit for you too." She'd hoped to keep it a surprise, but who was she kidding, she loved how excited Dizzy got and couldn't wait anymore.
Dizzy's eyes widen with surprise before she dives in for a hug. " You made me a whole outfit?" She asks with awe shining in her eyes. "You mean I'm gonna have a whole outfit designed by the most talented designer on the isle! Just for me?" She asks, shaking with her appreciation and love at just the thought.
"Yes silly. I had to do something to thank you for taking us in last minute." Evie quickly stands to rush over to the rack of garment bags she'd dropped off earlier, "Now, it's nothing major," She starts to explain as she hangs up Hyades' outfit, "But I think you'll love the patterns I pulled from and the stitch designs I used. I know you're a fan of fun patterns and multi prints. But I also added a nice trim to help pull all the colors together." She pulls out the last three bags and walks back over to show them off.
Dizzy can't help to jump up and down in while she clapped in excitement. "It doesn't matter, major or minor I know Imma be the most stylish girl my age! Everything you make just shines Evie. You're so passionate and amazing at what you do! I'm so excited to see what you made me! Everyones going to be so jealous of me." She pushes up her oversized glasses.
"Oh Dizzy, you're making me blush," Evie grins before the small timer dings, interrupting her thoughts.
"Oh, time to pull the masks off and wash the polishes off." Dizzy sing songs as she turns to the two girls laid out on the work chairs.
Evie chuckles softly, she'd been so caught up enjoying her time with Dizzy she'd forgotten her gang mates were behind them, luckily listening to music through headphones.
"You did that on purpose!" Mal accuses as her eyes water from the strip of wax Evie just pulled from her brow.
"I have no idea what you're talking about." Evie blinks too innocently.
"I am so glad you're the one doing my make-over," Hyades whispers to Dizzy.
Dizzy giggles, "But she's so much better at it."
"Maybe if you stopped scowling so much the wax wouldn't catch on the wrinkles." Evie chides Mal.
"Oh bite me, princess." Mal scoffs. Her eyes widen when she sees Evie's brow raise before she smears more of the wax on her brow. "Wait! I didn't- FUCK YOU!"
Evie tuts her tongue at her. "Mal, what did I say about scowling."
Mal groans. "Scowl my ass, and I thought I was vindictive."
"I learned it from you." Evie grins as she smooths another strip of cloth over the wax.
"Mhmm." Mal murmurs, unable to help the look of annoyance. "Glad one lesson stuck I guess." She pouts. "But I didn't mean be vindictive towards me."
"Take a deep breath," Evie plucks at the edge of the cloth before she smiles flashes an overly sweet smile, "and suck it up Mal. Maybe if you groomed yourself now and then, and tried to care about your appearance, this wouldn't be so awful."
"I do care about my appearance." Mal glares at her best friend.
"Oh Mal, no…" Evie shakes her head in disappointment. "Honey just no."
"You don't have to be a condescending-" She screeches as Evie rips the strip off. "Damn it, E, warn a bitch at least!"
"I said suck it up. How much more warning do you need?"
Mal glares at Evie but knew better than to continue arguing with tweezers at the other girl's elbow.
"Let's get the color in your hair Deez. I'll paint your nails as it sets."
"Wait! How come she isn't getting her eyebrows tortured?!"
"Evie takes care of my eyebrows all the time." Hyades explains with a frown, "Dizzy said they only needed a little plucking to clean them up again.
Mal pouts, before Evie sets to wax the next spot, actually holding her skin taunt this time.
"Wrinkles Mal." Is her only warning before Evie rips off the next strip. At least this one didn't hurt nearly as much.
"Good girl." Evie pats her head.
Dizzy looks away as a giggle escapes her.
"Are you okay Deez?" Dizzy whispers to the other girl as she towels her hair dry. "You're not… You just don't seem like you."
"I don't?" And here she thought she was doing so well. Sure, she was worried about T. And worried about the deal she made with her father, and the letter she sent to the king without rereading. But she was smiling and enjoying her time with the younger girl. Where had she messed up?
Dizzy shakes her head slightly. "You're usually a lot more interested in the process. You didn't even ask what mask we picked for you…" She frowns in concern. "And you just.." Her eyes dart to Mal. "Feel off," Her whisper drops even lower.
"Oh Dizzy, I'm sorry. I've just, of course I love what you do and I love learning about all this," Hyades carefully sweeps her hand around the room, "I guess I just have a lot on my mind."
"No- I'm sorry- That's not what I meant." Dizzy quickly tries to correct. "I'm just worried about you is all," Dizzy assures her. "I'm sorry whatever is going on is so consuming. I get lost in my head a lot too. It's never fun."
Hyades smiles up at Dizzy. No one thought getting lost in their head was fun it seemed. "You know I write to the king right?"
Dizzy nods her head. "Of course."
"Well, I wrote a very hard letter to him a few days ago, and I guess I'm just still picking it apart and worried about what I could have done better
"Oh." Dizzy blinks at her. "I'd think any letter to the king would be hard to write." She admits, "I'd never be that brave. And I'm sure whatever it is you wrote was amazing. I know how hard it is to appreciate your own work. If it weren't for Evie's constant encouragement I know I wouldn't be able to do hair. It was scary. Especially when I worked on Mal the first time. But you're you, I'm sure whatever you wrote will make an amazing picture for the reader, even the king." She finishes drying her hair. "Come on." She grins pulling her arm. "Nothing helps a bad day like some pampering. Let me massage your scalp a bit before I cut it."
Hyades bites her lip as she lets Dizzy guide her back to the chair before she reaches out and hugs Dizzy, "Thank you. I think I really needed that." Her eyes burn as she hides behind Dizzy for a moment.
"Just being honest." Dizzy hugs her back instantly. "You deserve encouragement too, and I don't feel like you get enough of it when it comes to your art."
"None of us do." Hyades chuckles wetly.
"Shouldn't stop us from trying." Dizzy pulls back just enough to beam at her. "And you and Evie encourage me plenty. To have the isle's most stylish designer and a goddess admiring my work- How could it not be? Even T and Carlos must think I'm good if they took the time to help me make beauty products. I doubt it was their favorite thing to do, so I must be worth something."
"Carlos loves anything science, but I know he only uses that brain of his for worthy causes. Same with T, he only takes an interest if there's something special about you. He's had enough time to pick them out." She slowly releases Dizzy and winks in her best Harry impression
Dizzy's eyes dart from Mal to Hyades several times before she gestures to her face, quickly turning to grab Hyades a water-soaked towel. "Here. I got some dye on your cheek."
Hyades hides her grin as she wipes her eyes discreetly on the towel. Dizzy was certainly on the ball tonight, she didn't feel like being interrogated right now, or explaining why the letter was so hard to write. Or worse, the rest of her current worries.
Once her face is cleaned of any traces of tears, Dizzy takes her hand and pulls her back to her chair. "Done with the sink, Evie." She calls across the shop as she pushes Hyades into the chair.
"Thanks, Diz." Evie shoots her a brilliant smile. "Come on cranky." She nudges Mal from her chair.
Hyades nearly purrs when Dizzy sinks her fingers to her scalp and starts massaging her head. She loved when Harry did this, and Dizzy was nearly as skilled. She smiles at the thought of Harry and Dizzy exchanging trade secrets.
"Bitch! I know you're tugging it on purpose!" Mal snarls from the sink.
Evie clucks her tongue again. "It's not my fault you don't know what a brush is Mal."
"Sorry," Dizzy whispers several minutes later as her fingers disappear from her scalp. "I need to cut your hair before it completely dries."
"I understand." Hyades pouts before she sits up with the chair. She sighs before she smiles, "I can't wait to see your magic. That was a lot of interesting blues in the sink."
"It's absolutely gorgeous," Evie assures her. "You went above and beyond this time Diz."
Dizzy blushes, "Thank you." She picks up a brush and starts dividing Hyades hair into sections.
"Ugh." Mal groans "You guys are killing me- Cunt! I know that one was on purpose!"
Dizzy flinches, as she keeps her attention on brushing Hyades' hair.
"Read a room Mal." Hyades could hear the eye roll in Evie's voice.
"I don't know if those two are going to make it to the party at this rate," Hyades whispers to Dizzy.
Dizzy shakes her head. "Mal might be mean, but Evie is ferocious when it comes to everything she cares about. She'll get it done and then some."
"You are so right." She just wasn't sure Mal was going to survive
"I know." Dizzy chirps in admiration before she puts down the brush.
"You know what kid?" Mal growls the question.
They hear a smack.
"Mal! Can you act like a lady for a minute?"
"That Evie is the best." Dizzy looks away cowed before she picks up a pair of scissors. "Don't tell Granny, but T found me a better pair than hers, cause I'm scared of the barge raids." She admits, making sure to keep it in a whisper. "So it won't come out as choppy. It's been nice. I think even Granny is impressed."
"Your secret is safe with me." Hyades grins nervously. So far Harry was the only one who'd ever cut her hair for her, but he always explained exactly what he was going to do. Getting a blind make-over was stressful.
"Okay, here we go." Dizzy grins before she makes the first snip. "No worries Deez I've got this."
"I trust you." Hyades gives her a thumbs up.
The snip pauses, "Thank you," Dizzy mumbles softly. "That means a lot to me." The snipping picks back up.
"Dizzy can cut my hair! You're in a mood." Mal demands as Evie pushes her into the chair next to them, pulling back her hair and holding it protectively.
"Oh Mal, like I can compare to Dizzy's level of grace with a pair of scissors." Hyades bites her bottom lip to hold back a laugh as Evie crosses her arms in front of her chest, "And how dare. I would never ruin your look. I have to be seen in public with you, remember."
"Don't worry Mal, I'll get your hair perfect as soon as I finish Deez."
"Thank you!" Mal quickly blurts out before she can stop herself.
"Rude." Evie titers before she walks over to sit on the other side of Hyades, "I guess I'll do your nails since someone is being insensitive."
"Insensitive? You almost pulled a chunk of my hair out." Mal spins the chair to glare at her.
"Don't be a Harry," Evie blinks innocently, "I would never do something so dramatic."
"Bull-fucking-shit, you just didn't have the strength. Don't lie to me."
Hyades sighs, Leave it to Evie to know exactly how to get Mal to relax. It had taken her a while to place it, but with T's introduction to the gang, she had finally noticed nothing seemed to de-stress Mal better than some back and forth. Too bad it interrupted the peaceful vibes for the rest of them.
"Mal, I would never." Evie presses a hand to her chest in offense.
"Wow, kid." Mal stares at her reflection in awe. "Way ta fucking knock this shit outta this cut." Mal nods in approval, a small smile on her lips.
Evie beams proudly from behind Dizzy as she watches Mal and Hyades inspect Dizzy's phenomenal work.
Mal's hair was angled in a very fashion-forward way, shorter on one side while the other side dropped several inches to flair into a sharp point. There were several ways Mal could style it, but the way Dizzy had curled it looked fantastic. And the color was so much more vibrant, as if Dizzy had built layers to the color.
As great as Mal looked, Hyades' new look was beyond breathtaking. True to her word, Dizzy hadn't taken much away from the length, but she'd added a few subtle layers that helped deepen the natural wave in her hair. But it was the color that had her floored. Dizzy really had the perfect eye for shades and blending. She kept the same icy blue her tips always turned, but perfectly blended them with several shades of darker blues. It was beautiful and perfectly complimented her unnaturally white complexion. She couldn't wait to get the girl into her new outfit and get the matching accessories in place. The shade of pink she'd chosen was going to compliment the colors perfectly.
"It's… Wow Dizzy, this is amazing." Hyades blinks at herself in the cracked mirror, reminding Evie of the first time she'd gotten the girl into real clothes.
"Really? You both like it?" Dizzy asks in concern.
"Kid, do I seem like the type of person to lie to spare your feelings? Ya did good." Mal waves dismissively. "Stop fishing."
"Oh." Dizzy blinks before she claps in excitement. "I'm so glad you guys are happy with it."
Evie places a hand to Dizzy's shoulder and squeezes it in appreciation. "See? Wasn't this a great idea?" She giggles happily. "You two look almost as good as me." She leans down and kisses Dizzy's hair. "Wicked job Diz. I know this was a lot of work, but you can't argue with your results."
"That's very true." Dizzy winks at Hyades before she turns to look up at Evie, "Now it's your turn."
"And then your turn to be pampered." Evie chuckles, glad that the other two agreed.
"What?" Dizzy questions in confusion.
"Yeah kid." Mal rolls her eyes, "Wouldn't be fair if ya did us up and we left you looking scruffy."
"Time for the stylists to get the works." Hyades grins encouragingly.
"Except hair!" Mal quickly corrects. "Trust me when I say that would just be a shit show."
"I have to agree," Hyades adds, "I'm not the artist you two are, I'm just good at massages."
Evie chuckles as she wraps her arm around Dizzy. "Can't have my mini-me looking scruffy for the first Howler in years."
So, did this chapter make you want to Curl up and die over the sweetness?
Not gonna lie, this hurt my teeth to write. Not usually my cup of tea, but even I can admit this chapter is fluffier than cotton candy.
How do you like our version of Dizzy? We know she doesn't get a lot of screen time but she's one of Dark's favorites.
What about the interactions between Mal and Evie? Did they make you bust a gut? I know we both made each other laugh with the shit we were coming up with for them to say.
Would you have been so rough with a moody friend?
Dark absolutely loves the big sister little sister vibes between Dizzy and Evie. Did we do a good job demonstrating that?
And what about Dizzy and Deez? Cute AF am I right? I know we keep giving these kids empathy but it's ridiculously hard not to be observant of anything on the isle, let alone people's moods. You gotta read that shit when you grow up in an abusive household or your fucked, so that's why so many of the characters are so adept at telling when someone is off.
We ended up discussing the language of love for each of them and both agreed that Evie's was gifts and affirmations.
Agree or disagree in the comments below.
Much love and appreciation,
