Disclaimer: I do not own the Mortal Instruments.
Disclaimer: I really am sorry about not updating in a while.
Look I know I haven't been updating as often as I used to and I'm sorry for that, it's just that with college assignments and midterms, I feel like it takes a lot out of me, and sometimes I don't find the motivation to write as much and I wouldn't want to half ass a chapter just so I can mark a check.
I'm sure you all understand, you all have your own responsibilities and what not.
But it's a new day and there's motivation so in honor of the holidays, here's a Clace chapter.
Happy holidays, merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah and all that, without further ado here's the chapter...
Recap: Raphael caught Isabelle and Sebastian making out and he broke up with Iz and is pissed at her. Jace and Clary were getting hot and heavy in the car, got caught by the police, spent the night in jail and Jace asked Clary on their first dare ever.
End of recap, now on with the chapter.
"What were you thinking?" Imogen asked, her arms wrapping around her chest as she leaned against the kitchen counter in her house, glaring at Jace who was reaching his hand into one of the cabinets and ravaging his way through it.
"I was thinking pancakes and chocolate syrup" Jace said looking down at his grandmother, "What were you thinking?"
"Don't be cute" She said, fixating him with a hard cold glare, letting him know, she was not having it.
"So omelets?" Jace asked.
Imogen reached up and laid a smack to the back of Jace's head, "You'd think you would at least hesitate before making a smartass comment after last night".
"And yet, I don't" Jace said sarcastically with a smirk.
"No you really don't" Imogen agreed, "Now Jace I am serious, you are in so much trouble".
"What are you talking about? They dropped the charges, it's not going on record and I didn't drop the soap once in there" Jace joked.
"I meant you are in trouble with me, Mr." Imogen said.
"What?"
"This rebel attitude of yours was cute when you were eight Jace, it's not anymore" Imogen said.
"A lot of people would argue that I'm still adorable" Jace joked.
"And your funny mouth too" Imogen said, "Now I have let it go for so long because you never got yourself in any actual trouble but not anymore, son. You're a Herondale, you need to start acting with the responsibility that name commands".
"Because I was arrested?" Jace said with an unbelieving tone.
"You say that like it was something harmless that happened, it wasn't Jace" Imogen said, "And it's not about that, you'll be an adult soon and you need to start acting like it".
"What's that supposed to mean?" Jace asked.
"It means getting into the family business, my next trip I am arranging you a seat next to me, it's time you see how the business is run" Imogen said in a tone that left no room for arguments, "Now come on, I don't want to miss my meeting, you'll have to drive me to the airport".
Jace gave a hard look as Imogen made her way out of the house and bit his tongue not to say anything, he knows Imogen is serious and whether he wants to learn the ropes of the business or not, he still wasn't sure so he decided to leave it for another time.
He picked up her bags and went to the car while he still had daylight, so he could get back in time to go on his date.
He got in his seat and drove off in utter silence, heading to the airport, not even the sound of the radio to fill in the silence of the car, which took over for the better half of the road. When they reached the airport, Imogen finally sighed, "I'm not the bad guy here, Jace" she said, "I'm not doing this as some sort of punishment".
"Could have fooled me" Jace quipped.
"I just want you to be ready for life after high school, son" Imogen said.
"Which is business school, business, work, work and more work" Jace said with a hint of sarcastic enthusiasm.
"You never know, Jace. Maybe you'll like it" Imogen tried.
"I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you" Jace said.
"Not like I could if I wanted to" Imogen said with a deadpan tone in her voice as she looked up at Jace, "You think you are the only one who can make old age joke".
"No" Jace answered, "The only one who can make them funny anyways".
"Just shut up, and take my bags".
"I'm really sorry, Iz" Clary said, pulling the phone from one ear to the other. Even though she and the rest of them had no idea what was going on with the whole Raphael/Isabelle/Sebastian thing, that didn't stop them from making their guesses, in fact they all made several guesses and bets on the specific topic, with two most probable theories.
The first being, Sebastian killed someone and dragged Isabelle to help him with it and Raphael walked in on them disposing of the body so he broke up with Iz being too terrified and in turn making Isabelle upset with Sebastian for ruining her relationship with Raphael. Or the second, more likely one, was that Sebastian and Isabelle were going for each other's throats, trying to kill one another and that's what Raphael walked in on.
Of course there was that one theory that they threw around for jokes that Raphael walked in on Is and Seb getting hot and heavy which they all laughed right out the chat as soon as it was suggested.
"Nothing to do about it anyways" Isabelle said through the phone, "Anyways, what are you up to?"
"Ah, family game night" Clary said, lying without trouble as she was so used to lying on a whim. It's not that she didn't want Isabelle to know about her date with Jace, it's just that Isabelle was going through a lot already, and she didn't want to rub in her happiness all over Iz's sour mood. Besides, if Jace hasn't mentioned it she wouldn't either. "It's just me, my mom and Luke".
"Oh so you and your mother are on good terms now?" Iz asked.
"Better terms I guess, at least we're talking. And we spent all of the day painting together which we haven't done in a while" Clary said, plus when she told her mother she was going on a date with Jace she didn't object or make a snide comment or even make a face, not even once... that she knew of.
"That's great, I suppose" Iz said, "Anyways, I gotta go, I'm making lunch for Alec, Max and me, I was thinking of trying out a new recipe".
"That's great Iz, I'll talk to you later then" Clary said. As soon as she hung up the phone she headed for her contact list and texted Alec quick, run for your life.
Alec- What is it?
Clary- Code red. CODE FREAKING RED!
Alec- Iz's cooking? This is bad.
Alec- I have to grab Max and go, but if I can't make it in time, it's every man for himself.
Clary- Don't you dare leave that poor boy alone with Isabelle cooking, Alexander. Leave no man, woman or child behind.
Alec- You're right, I'll talk to you once I am in the clear.
Alec- Thanks for the heads-up
Clary- It's my duty, no problem.
Clary went through her recent chats, chuckling a little to herself as her eyes laid on the group chat they have created for discussing Is and Seb's fight theories, which included all but those two, created by Jace, which was cleverly named Sherlock and his five Watsons, or so he says is cleverly named.
She texted Jace So about tonight, what's the dress code?
His reply came immediately Are you seriously asking me what to wear?
Clary- By the angel, if you say nothing, Jonathan Christopher Herondale, I am not going.
Jace- I'm not gonna say that... now.
Clary- Seriously, what should I be prepared for? Fancy? Casual? What are we doing anyways.
Jace- Can't tell, it's a surprise. *Smirking emoji*
Clary- Well thanks for nothing then. *Angry emoji*
Jace- Anytime *Winking emoji*
Clary placed her phone down, this will take a while then.
Clary pulled her blonde hair up in a ponytail as she looked at herself more in the mirror looking at it from side to side. Okay this looks good. She went to take her phone out of her back pocket and the wig started slipping off her head.
Grrr, she growled at her reflection. This is the forth time. Maybe she should just go without the wig, tell Jace she died it, maybe he'll like the red hair even.
No she can't do that, she'll just wear it down, she can't keep fussing about her hair, she still hasn't picked out anything to wear. She thinks to herself to help her out, what would Isabelle do if she were in her place?
She wonders if Jace is having trouble dressing for their date as she is, but she couldn't imagine him so.
Jace struggled yet again with putting his tie on correctly and started from scratch again. By the end of the hour he had given up on figuring it out and scrolled through Youtube's How To videos to try and figure it out.
Five failed attempts where it didn't land on the right place and two where he knotted his fingers into the tie, later and he finally figured it out.
At that point he realized he hadn't put a shirt on yet.
He groaned tiredly and in annoyance. Maybe he can put on a shirt without taking off his tie, yes he'll try that first.
By seven sharp, Jace was knocking at Clary's door, a bouquet of flowers in hand, wearing a suit that didn't sit well but looked great nonetheless and a tie that was too tight for his neck, making him feel like he was choking, but before he had time to adjust it, the door was blown open by Clary's mom.
"Jace" she said in a clipped tone.
"Mrs. Fray" Jace nodded.
"Clary will be out in a few, why don't you come in?" she suggested.
Because you might kill me, Jace thought. "I'd love to" he said instead. His eyes looked over the place as Clary's mother gave him a hard look as usual and Luke, who was sitting on the couch, got up to greet him.
"Hey, Jace. Good to see you again" Luke said as he shook his hand.
"You as well" Jace nodded.
The sound of heels clicking against wood brought his attention away and to the top of the stairs, making his breath hitch seeing Clary descending, in a blue dress, cut low and tight everywhere, and shorter than anything he has ever seen her wear, high heels as high as probably half her height and a big bag by her side.
She looked stunningly beautiful, but something felt wrong. It wasn't her, Clary looked amazing but something was off. Maybe it was him? Was it the suit, he looked up at Clary and she had the same look in her eyes as he did. No, it wasn't the suit.
She was on the last step now, with the height of it and her heels they were almost the same height now. "You look beautiful" he said.
"You look handsome" she countered, she could swear she saw her mother bit down on her lower lip in silence from the corner of her eye but she didn't mention it. Now that Clary was closer, she could notice all the details on Jace, noticing how uncomfortable he looked, how his eyes averted to the side just a bit, how his hair has lost its natural curls and looking darker than usual, was that gel in his hair?
"These are for you" Jace said.
Clary took the flowers happily, "Thank you. I love them. Let me just put them in water before we go".
"I can do that" her mother said and Clary sent her a discreet 'Try to burn these and I will run away', discreetly.
"I'll just take that, honey" Luke said, giving her a look that said 'You can trust me', taking the flowers from her.
"Then we can head out" Clary said as she looped her hand through Jace's arm and headed out with him to his car. He opened the door for her and she thanked him.
"Stop worrying" Luke said as he circled his arms around Jocelyn from behind, who was staring after Jace's car as it pulled out and drove away from her sight.
"How can I not?" she asked.
"Trust her, remember that she is a lot like you when you were her age" Luke said kissing her head.
"That's what worries me" Jocelyn said in a voice so low she doubted Luke even heard her.
Clary drank a sip of her water glasses and placed it down on the table, giving a small smile to Jace who was sitting across from her. It had been quiet. The car ride was very quiet and intense and Jace for some reason was not driving as fast as he always has which was weird and also made the quiet car ride even longer than it needed to.
Now they were sitting in silence, an uncomfortable awkward silence.
"So" Jace started.
"So" Clary said.
"How's.. your mom?" Jace asked.
"My mom?" Clary asked unsure, "Good, good".
"That's good" Jace said and Clary nodded.
"How's your grandmother?" Clary asked.
"Good, good" Jace answered.
"She didn't give you trouble over last night's jail thing?" Clary asked.
"Nothing I can't handle" Jace said.
"Good, good" Clary said. And the awkward silence loamed again. Clary, finding nothing else to fidget with, took another gulp of water, she couldn't help but think how much easier this would be if she was having tequila instead, or hell even a glass of wine. But a lot of grownups were around and she really didn't want any word of that to get back to her mother, especially since they were still over rocky waters.
But man, she would kill for alcohol right now.
"So" Clary cleared her throat, covering her mouth with her fist. Begging for conversation to ease between the two of them again as it always has.
"So" Jace echoed.
"When's your next soccer game?" Clary asked.
"Next week" Jace said, "And it's still football".
Clary pretended to roll her eyes teasingly, "Europeans" she sighed as if exasperated.
"Americans" Jace sighed dramatically as well and the two chuckled a bit before they fell into silence again. Clary took another gulp as Jace played with his tie loosening it a bit, or trying at least.
"Isn't the weather next week supposedly horrid?" Clary asked.
"It's unclear yet, besides they always get it wrong" Jace said, "So we'll see".
"Yes, we will" Clary said, then immediately reddened as she realized how stupid what she said was, she tried to play it off as she drank more water, emptying it and pouring herself another.
"But it's not here though, not in our school" Jace said, "Opposing team's school, we're getting plane tickets and hotels and the whole ordeal".
"Oh" Clary said, surprised, "That's nice".
"Yeah" Jace said, then quieted again.
"So" Jace echoed as his hands played with the knot on his tie.
"So" Clary echoed after him reaching for another glass.
Clary and Jace walked to his car in silence, which was not shocking considering how the night has been going so far, which left Clary all alone with her own thoughts which was way worse. She couldn't help but think of every possibility of why this was going so wrong. Was it her? Was it him? Was it because of them both? Are they just not cut out for this? Not right for each other as she initially thought?
And what does this mean? Do they try again? Do they go home now? It's only eight thirty. Do they go somewhere else to try again? Or do they retire for the night already? And if they do, does this bad date mean they will breakup?
Jace opened the passenger's door for Clary and she nodded numbly as she went to sit but his voice stopped her in her place, "Clary?" he said and she turned around, expectantly.
"Tonight was..." Jace found himself at a loss for words, what could he say now that would make it better? Could this even get better?
"Awful" Clary said finally when she realized Jace would not finish his sentence.
"I know" he said, surprising her. It's not like she thought he wouldn't notice the total awkwardness, but she was surprised he agreed with her.
"This is awful, why didn't this work?" Clary asked, talking to herself more than Jace, "By the Angel, this was bad and I don't even know why. Was it me?"
"No, no" Jace rushed to assure her, then stopped, "Yeah, you.. and me. Something was just wrong".
"I know, something felt missing and I don't even know why. It's not like this is the first time we were alone" Clary said, "Do you think, maybe, this didn't work because we don't work?"
"What? No! Why would you say that?"
"Well think about it, we were alright when we were just friends, but this was just awful. I mean Jace, what if that's what we should be? What if all we're good for is the kissing and the other things?"
"Not a bad thing to be good at" Jace said with a considering look, Clary smacked his chest, "Ow, what?"
"I'm serious, what if all we have is chemistry" Clary asked.
"Well technically we don't have chemistry, we have History, English, Gym, OW. What the hell?"
"I am really worried here and I don't want to hear bad puns" Clary said crossing her arms over her chest, as her eyes narrowed at Jace. They softened then slightly as she asked, "Well? Do you think that?"
Jace looked at her, gazing straight into her eyes for a moment before looking away and clicking his tongue annoyed, "You know what? I'm done with this" he said as he took off his suit jacket and threw it in the backseat over Clary's seat.
"What are you doing? Jace you can't strip here. We're in public!" Clary screeched horrified.
"No sweetheart, the public wishes but my only strip shows are in private and I am very expensive" Jace said and Clary tittered slightly under her breath. "But I have had it with this suit and this tie has been crushing my throat since before I put it on" he said as he took off his tie and threw it in the back with his Jacket.
Clary looked at him worriedly for a moment, not understanding what he was doing, as he went on, popping off the top two buttons from his shirt, "I feel like I haven't been myself the entire night. I got this monkey suit, thinking it will help but it's just not me and this entire night doesn't feel like us. That dress doesn't feel like you and that restaurant was beyond boring".
"It was beyond boring" Clary agreed, her eyes narrowing as if she was angry "And this stupid tight dress has cut off my circulation half an hour ago", she said as she got up, and with her hands ripped the side of the dress besides her thigh to make the dress looser.
"This shirt sucks" Jace said as he folded the sleeves up to just below his elbow which the look made him look hotter.
"It does, and I hate what you did with your hair" Clary said pointing at the mop of hair looking dull, getting agitated, her tone matching the anger in his as well.
"I agree" he said taking the bottle of water from his car and splashed water over his head, rubbing his hands through it so that the gel would come off. He ruffled his hair when done and the wet curls fell around his face, sticking to his forehead and looking more natural than they have the entire night which made Jace look even more handsome. "And your shoes are awful".
"I'm glad you hate then because they have been killing me the entire night" Clary said as she took off her shoes and threw them in the back of the car as well, standing on the dirty street with her feet bare and she let them stretch for a moment, feeling like nails were pulled out of her feet at last and she could finally stand again, freely.
"And just so you know, I've been waiting the entire night to kiss you" Jace said, the anger almost disappearing from his tone, only a hint of it left.
"I've been waiting for you to do it, as well" Clary said, with the same tone and within a second, their lips were touching in an aggressive embrace, his hands moving to roughly circle her waist and pull her closer to his chest as he backed her against the car.
Her hands fisted in his wet hair bringing his mouth closer to hers as she kissed him with all the force she could muster, feeling the electricity that was missing all night sparkle inside of her again, tingles rushed at the skin where he touched her and she whimpered into his mouth and gasped.
He took that opportunity and pushed his tongue into her mouth, tasting her, biting on her lower lip as he did so. Her small hands bringing him closer drove him wild and the way her body fit exactly to match his own was either heavenly or sinful. He wasn't sure which and at that point he didn't care, her taste and smell brought him to life and killed him again, only to light him up inside again.
"Jace" Clary gasped into his mouth, her eyes flying open suddenly as Jace kissed her jaw and cheek, his tongue darting to pepper small kisses to her neck, "We're still in public".
"That's very bad" Jace said, his tone sounding as if he was dazed, drunk on her taste and skin.
Clary gasped as he bit on her neck harshly then moaned as he soothed the skin with his tongue, "Jace" she said again.
Jace groaned, "If you want me to stop, stop saying my name like that" he said looking up at her through hooded eyes.
She cleared her throat and looked away from the intensity, knowing that if she kept seeing that look in his eyes, she will not be able to stop herself. The two stepped away from each other, giving themselves much needed space. Clary felt hot all over and needed to calm down, needed to stop feeling the heat from Jace's body against hers or she might just break.
"We" Jace said finally as he licked his lips, "Are never going to that restaurant again".
"Agreed" Clary nodded.
"I know what we should do now" Jace said, his eyes glowing with an idea.
"Yeah me too, but don't you think someone will call the cops on us for public nudity?" Clary said.
Jace chuckled, "As much as I would love risking that idea, and hearing you suggest it again" he said with a smirk, "I have another idea. It's not better than yours but..."
"Just shut up and let's go" Clary said, her face reddening, she took an item out of her bag and Jace could only stare as she pulled his jacket that he gave her over her arms and sleeves.
"This is not helping get my mind off it" Jace said, looking at her up and down, his gaze piercing and she squirmed in her place.
"Grandmas" Clary said suddenly.
"What?" Jace was shocked back to reality, his eyes locking with Clary's.
"Grandmas in Bikini" Clary went on, "Coach Starkweather in gym shorts, Alec..."
"Okay okay, you made your point" Jace said shaking his head as if to physically force the pictures out of his head, his previous excitement all gone now.
"Glad to do so" Clary said as she got in the car, seeing him circle around to get to his side and she could have sworn she heard him mutter something along the line of 'Evil and cruel demon thing' and she smirked to herself.
"Of all the places in Idris, I have to say, I never expected our first date to be at a hospital" Clay teased as she got out of the car. It's a good thing her mother was not working tonight. Jace took the boxes they bought on the way out of the trunk of the car and placed them on the grass next to the wall.
"I-"
"I'm kidding, I love your idea" Clary said, cutting Jace off, "How did you know?"
Jace scratched the back of his neck, awkwardly, "Well, I remember you saying the hospital felt plain and I figured..."
Clary smiled at him, she didn't expect him to remember, not really, she said that so long ago before they were together, before they were even real friends, she didn't expect him to remember her saying one comment like that.
"Robert" Jace said as the handsome man in the white coat approached, giving his adoptive son a great smile. "Well, they're here, just like you asked".
Clary took a look around at the faces of all the kids, some she had met before and other were unfamiliar to her, all huddled up at the exit to the hospital in their patient robes.
"It's Clary" the little girl she met before, Anna said as she ran to her, Clary picked the girl up and hugged her when she came running to her, "Hi, Clary" Anna said.
"Hi, Anna. How have you been?" she asked as she put the girl down.
"I'm great, they added pudding to the cafeteria, every Thursday" Anna said.
"Wow, that is great news" Clary said with a big smile.
"Why are we here?" Rebecca asked as she crossed her arms over her chest.
"To paint" Jace said.
Rebecca turned dewy eyed as Jace answered her, looking up at him, "To paint?"
"You love to paint right?" Clary asked.
There was a chorus of 'Yes' and Jace opened the boxes to reveal, bottles upon bottles of spray paint. "Well then, what are you waiting for?" Jace said.
"Dr. Lightwood, can we?"
"Yeah, please, Dr. Lightwood"
"Please?"
"Alright, alright" Robert said, "Here's the deal, I don't want to see any white empty walls after tonight".
Cheers echoed around as each of the kids took a spray bottle and ran to the outside walls of the hospital, each of them taking their own little section to paint whatever they liked. Clary took off her jacket -really, Jace's- and took two spray bottles, and headed for the wall.
She started painting, spray painting, which took her some time to get used to, instead of the touch of a simple brush under her fingers but she was quick to learn and she started painting.
She painted the morning sky, sun and rainbows, she painted a farm and kids and animals, she painted funny faces as well, she kept painting until her painting stretched all over her spot on the wall. She showed some kids how to get their painting just right and helped some with matching colors.
She looked back at Jace who was with the kids, his hands were both painted gold, covered in paint as he and the kids left hand prints on the wall, Jace's was by far the biggest hands and she chuckled to herself. She covered her hands with green and followed their example, placing two green hand prints on the wall.
She was so engrossed in it that she only snapped out of it when she heard her name being called.
"Hm?" she said as she turned around to meet the eyes of Jace, Rebecca and Anna. The look on Jace's face worried her and without even knowing why, she took a step back, Jace matched her footing with one step forward, then two, then they were spray painting all over her clothes, she screamed as she started running away in horror.
"No" she yelled as she tried to get away but Jace was twice as fast as her and he caught up to her, cornering her and started spraying paint all over her, "No, Jace, stop".
"I'll save you sweetheart" she heard Jason's voice before she felt the paint stop, she opened her eyes and found Jason spraying paint all over Jace, she laughed as he tried to dodge it and she joined in. She stood beside Jason as Jace, Rebecca and Anna stood together in team format.
She looked down at Jason, who winked at her and said, "It's you and me, sweetheart".
She would have laughed any other time at this little boy flirting with her but she took all the help she could get as the two started running after Jace and his team. Soon they were all covered in paint and had attracted quite the audience. Everyone in the hospital, who could, was outside looking at them running, old and young, doctors and patients, left the hospital and started joining them, each taking a spray painting bottle and painting, putting their hand print on the same wall as all of them, some wrote down their names, others just sprayed masses of colors in no direction in particular.
By the end of it, there were random paintings everywhere, each one closely overlapping the other and it was all messy and confusing, "It's beautiful" Clary said, and it surely was.
She looked back at Jace by her side, he pulled her closer and kissed her, a simple quick kiss and she smiled up at him, she didn't need to say any words, he just knew.
The night was close to an end, it was close to midnight and Clary and Jace were at his house, his empty house, alone. After the whole painting event, they were still so full of energy that they decided the night shouldn't end there.
So they went back to Jace's house, not the one with all the Lightwoods, but his house, the Herondale manor, left to him by his father, which apparently has been in the family for centuries, and it was a great manor, too big for any one person to live in, with its own game room and a huge guest wing and a library, though through the tour Jace had warned her that most of the books were inscripted by some ancestor named Will H.
And at the time it seemed like such a good idea to come here, but now she was nervous, Jace had offered her some clothes to change out of her paint covered one and she nodded silently.
Now she wasn't so sure about the brilliance of it, as she looked over herself in the mirror, wearing only Jace's shirt which was very big on her and reached her mid thigh but it was all strange, it was very big and she looked ridiculous, she wished if she had a belt of some sort to wrap around her waist to make it look better, or even better yet, her own clothes.
But she sighed nonetheless and stepped out of the bathroom, Jace had made a fire in the fireplace and she took the time to admire him, he had changed out of his paint covered clothes as well and was in gray sweatpants and a dark shirt, like the one she had on. The weather outside was freezing and she thanked him silently for the fire.
"Would you like something to dri-" his words died down as he turned around to look at her, his eyes raked over her body with a piercing gaze that made Clary squirm, before he caught himself, coughing to clear his throat, he asked again, "Something to drink?"
"Yeah, sure" Clary said.
"Wine?"
"That would be nice" Clary agreed and Jace made his way to the kitchen as she took her seat by the fireplace. The fireplace looked weirdly nice, her fingers itched for her to draw it on paper, she tried to memorize the way the colors blended in the fire, the lines of color, where it started, where it ended, and tried to commit it to memory so she could draw it again.
"Here" Jace's voice said from behind her, she turned around and saw him holding a bottle of wine, two glasses and empty paper, "I know you still have your drawing kit so I didn't bring an pencils".
"How did you...?" Her words failed her, how did he know she wanted to draw?
"Because I am so great" he winked at her teasingly as he took a seat beside her.
Clary shook her head with a smile as he poured her a drink and she accepted it graciously, but she didn't start drawing, she put the paper down as she looked at Jace. Her mind raked with possibilities and questions.
She knew what she wanted to do, but did she really? Were the thoughts in her head from a rush of adrenaline from the night they had? Or possibly from the moment right now, its romantic nature overwhelming her.
She wasn't sure, but she looked up at Jace one time before setting her drink down. She looked determined, perhaps she was, as she looked at Jace, staring at her with confusion, she took his glass setting it down as well and approached him cautiously.
"Clary?" he said unsure. She loved the fact that she was the only who can make him unsure, who could make him stumble over his words or make his breath stop as he looked at her, she loved that she was the only one who had that affect on him, and he her.
She came closer to him now, close enough to straddle his lap and he froze under her, his face was stoic, revealing nothing, and yet she could read him so well, she placed her hands on his neck and cupping his face with her thumps, making him look up at her as she caressed the skin there, "Clary" he said again, this time his voice sounding hooded and dark.
She brought her lips down softly, taking her time as her lips pressed down at his and he immediately reacted under her, warmth creeped under her skin as she felt her body heat up, her stomach tightening in an agonizing knot, his hands around her waist left shivers down her spine, making her skin tingle wherever they touched. She felt everything slip away from her, the worry, the pain, the insecurities, all she could feel was Jace.
It overwhelmed her, her heart beat erratically, loud and thumping in her ribs that she felt it might burst any second now and yet it didn't, her fingers ruffled Jace's hair as she ached to have him closer, his lips pressing against her own when he suddenly stopped and pulled away.
"What's the matter?" she asked, in a sort of daze.
"Clary, I don't.. I mean I didn't bring you here to do anything you're not ready for" Jace said, "That wasn't my intention and you don't have to-"
"I know" she interrupted him, "I know I don't have to, but Jace I want to".
"Clary" he groaned her name, in warning, closing his eyes momentarily to collect himself.
"Jace, I want this" Clary repeated, taking his face in her hands, making him open his eyes to look up at her, "And I am ready, ready to be with you. Unless you changed your mind about- Woaho"
Clary let a yelp escape her and then a chuckle as Jace flipped them over so he was on top of her, but her laughter was swallowed in when his lips touched hers again in a passionate embrace, she felt his body press against hers just right, almost as if every piece of him fit perfectly to her.
"Let's get one thing clear" Jace started as he left kisses from her lips to her jaw.
"Hm?" Clary said, not trusting her voice to make complete sentences.
"I can't change my mind" Jace said as his mouth lowered to kiss at her neck, "Ask me why".
Clary hummed again, the feeling of Jace kissing her throat making her tingly and she was sure her voice would come out hoarse if she did. When it was obvious Jace wouldn't be satisfied with this, she asked, "W- why?"
She felt her cheeks burn red at the hitch in her words when Jace bit down on her neck, "Because it's too late for me, Clary. Meeting you has changed me for the better, and even if you left me, I would still have that". He paused, lifting his head from her neck. "Not that you should leave me" he added hastily and she chuckled.
"It's sweet that you think it's possible" she said, "You've changed me too, and I wouldn't have it any other way, I wouldn't change that for the world". She pulled her shirt over her head and waited, she felt Jace stiffen over here and take a deep breath.
"Are you sure?" Jace asked one last time, she could see his control slipping, "Because Clary if you're not then say so because in a moment I don't know if I could ever stop".
"Am I sure?" Clary repeated his question as if it made no sense, "Jace, I've been sure about you for a long time".
And with that, the last bit of his self control was thrown out the window as he kissed her eagerly, passionately, like a man, thirsty all his life and seeing water for the first time, the only difference was, he didn't think he would ever have enough of her.
Her taste, her smell, the feel of her skin touching his, it's not something he could ever have enough of and so he embraced her all through the night as they let their emotions drive the night away all through the morning light, like the two of them had the world to themselves.
