Disclaimer: I do not own the Mortal Instruments series.
Recap: We're at the school's winter dance, Jace was just crowned king and Seelie as queen and Clary found out Simon is alive.
Simon woke up to a blinding light and an overload of whiteness, everything in his body hurt and ached in a way he had never known before. Was he dead? Did he finally get one too many pushes off the swing? Shoved into the sand one too many times?
"Simon?"
Was that his mother's voice?
"Simon?"
Was she here too?
He could feel the blinds over his eyes disappearing with every time she called his name, like her voice anchored him back to the world, it wouldn't let him go. He pushed against the light as he tried to get back to his mother, when he finally opened his eyes and saw his mother's face above him.
"Mom?" He tried to say but his voice was unrecognizable, he was sure that deep throaty tone didn't come out of him, there was no way his squeaky voice could even fake that. But his throat hurt as he tried to say the words, scrapping at his windpipe like sharp fingernails clawing at it, what was going on?
His mother smiled, she had a black eye and bruises all over her face and arm, her hand was in a cast and she had a deep cut over her cheek. "He's awake, call the doctor" she said to someone but Simon's whole body ached too much for him to see whom.
"Simon baby, it's gonna be okay" his mother said as someone came rushing in. In a few moments, a man in his late 40's possibly was shining a light in his eyes, ordering him to follow the light with his eyes, checked his heartbeat and asked him questions, if he remembers who he is.
Of course he remembers who he is, why wouldn't he?
He could faintly make out the words 'No Concussion' and 'Okay'.
Before long he had finally regained some composure to ask, "What happened?"
"Baby there was a car accident, do you remember?" his mother asked, "Someone hit our car from the side on a crossroad".
But Simon did remember the black van with black tinted glass that came rushing in at his side and then nothing.
"Yes" Simon said then asked frantically, "Rebecca?"
"She is okay" his mother said calmly, "She was put in another room because your condition was.. more sensitive and because of your allergies and weak immune system, you had to be put in a room of your own".
"Oh, can I see her?" Simon asked.
His mother smiled, "She's resting now but as soon as possible, you will".
Simon nodded, or tried to, but stopped when it proved ultimately too painful. His neck was in a cast and his right arm was too heavy to lift, not to mention his leg was stretched out in front of his eyes, lifted on some weird contraption.
"Speaking of your sister, I should go check on her, I haven't seen her for hours and if she's awake, she's gonna be so happy to know you're up" his mother said, "I'll be right back".
Simon heard the door open and close behind his mother and had closed his eyes to enjoy the silence for a moment, everything was happening so fast since he woke up.
He was in a car accident.
Possibly an accident, he reminded himself.
He could have sworn that black van was standing still until they reached it, like it was waiting for him.
He tried to convince himself that it was all in his head, he had to stop watching so many movies.
He heard the door open and close again. He peaked open one eye to look at a doctor who came into his room, this doctor looked barely into his early thirties and he had a clipboard with him, he was writing off some things.
"And how are we today, Mr. Lewis?" he asked.
"I'm good" Simon answered uncomfortably, he was really hoping for a moment of silence.
"That's good, I'm here to check on you, your vitals and blood pressure" he said.
"The other doctor just did that" Simon said.
"Oh" the doctor said surprised, "Well, perhaps I can help you with your sleep position instead, you should always keep your head up. Here I'll help". He said as he approached Simon and propped him up, which was very painful but the doctor didn't seem to pay attention as he changed the position of the pillows behind him, taking his time in fluffing them.
"Thank you" Simon said.
"You're welcome, kid and goodnight" the doctor said.
Simon barely had enough time to ask "What?" before his voice was muffled and his eyes were blocked as the doctor pressed a pillow to his face and shoved it down against his head.
Simon didn't see the white light this time, it was all black, it was very dark as he muffled and tried to scream but nothing came out, and the more he struggled, the harder it got for him to take breaths, he could feel himself slipping away and losing consciousness.
When all of a sudden the pressure was taking off of him as he heard the sound of medal clattering, there was a ruffle, sounds of thuds against walls and floors and Simon panicked before someone took the pillow off his face.
The black man breathed out a sigh of relief and asked "Are you alright, kid?"
Simon was quiet now, still terrified of what happened, he didn't trust his voice to speak.
"It's okay, the bad man is down, I won't let him hurt you" the man said, then sighed when he saw that the boy wasn't budging, "My name is Lucian, Lucian Graymark, I'm here to help you".
Clary hugged her best friend like her life depended on it, her best friend whom she thought was dead for so many years.
"Clarissa, you're strangling me" Simon let out through harsh breath, "Clarissa Morgenstern, are you trying to kill me?"
That took Clary out of her trance and she let go of the poor guy as she stepped back, still leaving her hands on his shoulders, as if to make sure he is still there, terrified that if she let him go, if she didn't hold him, he would disappear again.
"I don't.. I don't understand.. I.. You're alive" Clary muffled out unintelligently.
"I'm alive" Simon nodded because somehow he knew she needed to hear it again.
"I- I don't get it... how are you here?" Clary asked.
"What do you mean? How are you here?" Simon asked.
"It's a... long story" Clary said, "But I thought... I mean I thought you were dead after my.."
Clary quieted instantly and stepped away, she hadn't thought of it that way before. Clary's father was the one who tried to kill Simon. Did he know? Was that why he was here too? And if he did know, did he blame her?
Of course he would blame her, it was her fault, if she had kept her big mouth shut.
He probably doesn't want to hear her, or talk to her. Who would after what she did to him?
"I know it was your dad who caused the accident" Simon said with a raised eyebrow and a soft expression. Is that what blame looks like on a face?
"How are you here?" Clary asked again, looking around the empty hall, unable to look Simon in the eye.
"Here as in... Idris or here as in on Earth?" Simon joked but coughed to hide it when he saw it not registering on her face.
"We were lucky, we survived the car accident" Simon said, "Or at least what we thought was an accident".
"How- How did you know it wasn't?" Clary wondered, maybe, just maybe she wasn't responsible for the attempt on his life, maybe it was an accident and her father took the credit for it?
"Back at the hospital, a doctor.. he tried to kill me" Simon started, scratching the back of his neck uncomfortably, as if it was hard to remember even though it's been years, Simon's tone made it clear he didn't want to get into that part of the story too much. The trauma of it all probably made it impossible to talk about.
Or maybe that was insightful guessing.
But Clary did remember coming home that day and her father was talking on the phone with someone, he had a friend at the hospital that would make sure Simon would die.
"But someone stopped him, a man, FBI, he.. he said your father was the one who sent this man after me and that they knew because they were trying to arrest him but they didn't have enough evidence against him to put him away. He said that I had to hide, to move away, he told my mother too.. parts of the story at least" Simon said.
"This man who helped you, FBI you said? Who was he?" Clary asked.
"Tall, dark, obsessed with Terminator" Simon said with a chuckle, "His name was Lucian Graymark".
Lucian Graymark. Clary closed her eyes, her mind going back to when Luke told her Simon was dead. It seems like that is something a coworker working the same case would tell you about. Lucian Graymark. Why was that name so familiar?
"And well I've been running ever since and haven't seen him since then" Simon said, "The FBI still check up on me but it hasn't been Lucian".
"Simon, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry this happened to you" Clary started.
"No, hey, none of that, Morgenstern. It wasn't your fault" Simon said, "Besides, I've traveled everywhere, had lots of friends, I had a good life and I don't blame you for that".
"Still I'm-"
"No" Simon interrupted her again, "Now on to the real story, what the hell are you doing here?"
"Like I said it's a long story" Clary said uncomfortably.
"Maybe you can tell me it over a drink" Simon said, "Let me see if I remember right Morgenstern, hot chocolate with little marshmallows on top?"
"Your memory serves you right, Lewis. But my drink is coffee now" Clary said with a soft smile.
"Ah, just like a true American" Simon said.
"An American in Europe, now where have I heard that one before?" Clary joked, "Oh and it's Clary now. Clary Fray".
"Well then, Fray, we should get back to the party before anyone sees us" Simon said as the two headed back to the party.
Unbeknown to them, a blonde haired, blue eyed, student walked out of her hiding spot from behind the lockers, crossed her arms over her chest as she leaned her weight against the lockers, "Well imagine that" she said in shock. Who knew a little trip to the bathroom could get so interesting.
Her phone buzzed Kaelie, where are you?
She texted back Coming your way.
Clary entered the party with Simon as the two immediately stepped away from each other to add distance so it wouldn't look too suspicious.
"Clary, please wait".
Clary turned around as she heard Jace's voice which if she was not mistaken sounded a bit panicked, but if Simon noticed the urgency in Jace's tone he didn't react to it. Maybe it was just her, maybe she's known Jace long enough to detect the small change in him, his eyes were just a bit wider and his tone just a bit higher, his shoulders tense and a little vain was popping on his neck that she focused on for too long.
Jace took hold of her arms in his, making shivers run up her spine by the simplest of touches, his grip was strong enough to keep her in place but not too strong that she couldn't pull away if she wanted to, which she didn't want to. "I know what that looked like but I didn't kiss her, she kissed me and I pulled away" Jace said all in one breath.
Clary froze in her place in a moment of confusion. Kiss? She? What the hell was he talking about?
She remembered that before her panic attack, last she had saw him, he was dancing with Seelie, then it finally all clicked and the confusion before had melted away to bubbling anger instead.
"I'm gonna go... be somewhere else" Simon said as he ducked away, even though he could have left without saying a word as the couple had seem to have forgotten he was there.
"Seelie kissed you?" Clary asked with a hint of danger in her tone.
"I- uh.. no?" Jace tried as he realized she had no idea.
Clary clicked her tongue once as she backed away from Jace, livid anger visible on her features as she seemed to be nodding to herself and mumbling 'Okay, yeah, okay'.
Clary stepped away from Jace as she strutted over through the crowd, a hand on her arm stopped her as Jace asked "Clary, what are you doing?"
She detached her arm from his grip with a forceful pull as she went on her way, an angry stomping of her feet was making the crowds part to reveal her target. She reached over to where Seelie was holding a drink and talking over to some girls, her crown still on her head as Jace's was, her back was towards Clary and so when she was a foot behind her, she tapped her shoulder impatiently.
When Seelie finally turned towards her with a raised unimpressed eyebrow as if she was sizing her up, Clary raised her fist for a few seconds as if to warn the girl, and then sent it straight towards the girl's nose with a powerful force, all the years of training with Luke did not go to waste. It was a clean break, she was sure. Luke had taught her that move well, and she had a nasty left hook.
The music seemed to suddenly cut off as gasps erupted all around them, some whispers and pointing was made but Clary kept her gaze firm on Seelie whom was knocked back by the sheer force of Clary's punch towards the girls she was talking with, who held her up and straightened her.
Seelie's hands went to cover her nose as her crown slipped from her head, red formed between her fingers as she started bleeding.
"Kiss my boyfriend again and I'll make sure it never heals right" Clary said, waiting for Seelie to make a move, to hit her back, when a slap came her way, she gripped Seelie's wrist in her hand, stopping her movement.
Seelie looked at Clary then, the look of complete hatred shifting momentarily to absolute horror but then it changed to a fake innocent expression as teachers came rushing in.
Clary let go of Seelie's wrist with a hard shove as she raised her hands in the air to show she wasn't going to throw any more fists. Students still gestured and whispered around but she had shrugged them off as she heard a bit of chuckles too.
Her eyes found Isabelle's in the crowd who was not holding back a grin as she had her phone out -Clary assumed to film the scene- and was raising a thumps up towards her as if she was a proud mother.
Jace's eyes were worried as the principal told Seelie and her to head towards the office.
Clary knew the moment the expression changed on Jace's face that all hell would break loose.
Jace pulled down his pants and yelled out a cheering 'Woo', he started running around the dance floor and Clary had to force her eyes not to stare at that but keep her line of sight on Jace's eyes.
Some people covered their eyes, some looked eagerly and some started taking pictures of Jace in his underwear, Sebastian brought his pants down from the other side of the room and immediately started yelling 'Woo's.
"Is he drunk?" Madam Dorothea asked as Magnus joined in on the underwear fiasco, earning himself a sharp 'Magnus' from his boyfriend.
The principal took a plastic cup from one of the kids, "Give me that", he said hurriedly as he smelled the contents, "It's alcoholic".
"Someone spiked the punch" came out a yell and soon dozens of boys were dropping their pants', some even their underwear as they ran and shoved around. She was shoved left and right before a hand grasped her arm from behind and pulled her away. With all the bodies pushing against her, she couldn't see who it was, but she didn't need to, she knew it was Jace the moment he touched her.
They fought their way out of the stadium and stepped outside to a breath of fresh air, Jace had pulled up his pants in the middle of all the ruckus and he was shaking his head, "You're crazy" he said.
"I'm not the one who started a stripping disaster" Clary argued.
"I did it for you" Jace said with a shake of his head, "Now they are too worried about the mess in there to notice us".
"You know I will see all those teachers on Monday, right?" Clary asked as she hugged herself tighter, she had forgotten her coat, she thought before Jace slipped her the coat she had came with. She didn't see him go for it.
"But they'll think your outburst was because you were intoxicated and they would have nothing to say then" Jace said, "They're the ones who should have made sure something like that didn't happen".
"You really think of everything, don't you?" Clary asked teasing as she looked around, the thunder and lightning were striking one after the other every few seconds, it was bound to rain any minute now.
"Only for you since I have no regard for my own safety" Jace said as he slipped his hand in hers, he then grinned, "I can't believe you broke a girl's nose for me".
Clary flushed red, now that her anger had subsided, she was left with the crippling embarrassment of what she had done. She looked away but Jace didn't let her budge as he jumped in front of her, their hands still clasped as he made her look up at him with a finger under her chin, his amused smirk even made it all more embarrassing.
"Shut up" Clary mumbled.
"Not a chance, remember when you said you weren't jealous the other day of Kaelie?" Jace asked as he walked backwards towards the parking lot.
"Which I wasn't" Clary insisted.
"I believe you. Because now I know what you look like when you're jealous" Jace said.
"I was not jealous" Clary let out in a hiss as her cheeks tingled brighter.
Jace grinned wider, "You are a very violent person when you're jealous".
"I was not-"
"I'm not sure I am comfortable being around someone so violent at the slightest hint of jealousy" Jace teased.
Clary was seeing red now, "I'm gonna murder you".
"Are you jealous again? Is that it? Or are you such a violent person in general?" Jace teased.
Clary whipped her hand away from his grip as she tried to shove Jace and his stupid grinning face away from her but he held her by her waist as soon as she tried to push him away and brought her closer, a blooming laughter filled her ears as his mouth rested above her head.
"I can't stand you" Clary huffed out, her head against Jace's chest, feeling it vibrate as he laughed harder, he leaned back against his car, bringing her with him as he nibbled on her ear and suddenly she felt a different kind of flush creep over her.
Jace's lips descended to the spot behind her ear as he fluttered kisses there, and then her neck, her shoulder blades and her chin before stopping all together.
Clary opened her eyes to look up at him, their bodies so close together, he wasn't grinning teasingly anymore, she could see the hooded look in his eyes and the wanton expression on his face as he murmured "You're gonna drive me crazy".
"It's only fair since I lost all my sanity the moment I met you" Clary mumbled, she hadn't realized how truthful her words were until she had spoken them. It feels like her whole world has flipped on its head ever since she met Jace. He has shown her new things, made her feel things she haven't before. It was all brand new and exciting, and a bit terrifying if she was honest with herself, but she has also never felt this happy.
"How about I take you home, Miss Fray?" he asked between kisses.
Clary chuckled, "Miss Fray? I think I like that, Mr. Herondale" she said with a smile as he laid his forehead against hers, they both had their eyes closed but somehow she knew he was smiling as well, that goofy smile that people rarely saw on him and was reserved for her only.
They stayed like that for a few moments before they parted and entered the car, Clary used the silence of the car to think. Everything happened so fast for her to grasp, she felt like she needed to focus on something to keep her grounded, so she decided to focus on the feel of Jace's hand on her thigh as he drove.
Isabelle approached the group with Simon, Alec and Magnus were sitting around with Sebastian as they laughed at the whole mess they made, although Alec was less laughing and more lecturing.
"Seriously, there were better ways to distract the principal without needing to strip" Alec said with an uninterested eyeroll.
"Relax, Alexander the strip tease was strictly PG-13" Magnus said with a dazzling grin.
"For you maybe, but I've somethings" Alec said as he lowered his head, shaking it slightly in mock horror, "Horrible things".
"Did you see them leave?" Isabelle asked, "Are they gone?"
"I think they slipped past" Simon said, "You know, in the whole underwear fiasco".
"Yeah, I saw them slip away" Sebastian said, as if Simon didn't say anything.
"Good. At least one good thing did come from all of this" Isabelle said, as she waited a moment to grab everyone's attention, then pulled out her phone, "We got a video of Clary punching Seelie, I think she broke her nose".
She flipped her phone so that they can all see, "Someone put it on Youtube?" Alec asked
Isabelle looked away from her brother and shrugged awkwardly, "Yes, uh, someone did".
At the slight hesitation in her tone, Alec peeled his eyes away from the phone, looking back at her with an unimpressed gaze, he slowly lifted one eyebrow and she sighed, "Fine, I put it on Youtube", Isabelle admitted.
"And?" Sebastian said, somehow knowing that was not it.
"And Instagram" Isabelle added.
Alec' eyebrow rose even higher as Magnus tried to hide his grin.
"And the school's website" Isabelle sighed heavily, finally admitting the whole truth as Magnus snorted a laugh, "Well it's already out there, so" Isabelle started with a shrug as she looked up at Simon, "Dance?"
"Yes, I would love to embarrass myself in front of everyone" Simon said, sporting a sarcastic grin.
"Wonderful" Isabelle said as if she hadn't detected the sarcastic quip in his tone as she looped her arms through his and dragged him off to the dance floor, throwing a "I won't be long" back at Alec behind her back, knowing he was getting fidgety. She did not dare look back at Sebastian's face.
"It's wonderful he would abject himself for a dance with his date" Magnus said not so subtly as he looked back at Alec.
Alec hummed once, as if he wasn't paying attention and was shocked back to life by that line, the song changed and Magnus grinned, "They're playing our song" he said as he took his boyfriend's hand in his and dragged him off to the dance floor.
"That's not our song" Alec mumbled under his breath as he allowed himself to be dragged off, in a matter of seconds they had their arms around each other and were swinging to the rhythm.
Alec looked back at Magnus as his earlier words popped into his brain again Long distance relationships never work.
Alec felt himself electrocuted and jumped away from Magnus as if shocked, he looked mortified as he shook his head, "No, I can't".
"Come on, Alexander, you're not that terrible of a dancer" Magnus joked but Alec didn't laugh, he just avoided Magnus' gaze as he looked to the floor.
"I can't do this" Alec repeated.
"Alexander, I was only teasing, we don't have to dance if you don't want-"
"No, it's not that" Alec said, shaking his head again as if that was the only move he could do. It probably was because the rest of his body felt numb, "I can't do this, us".
"Alexander-?"
"No, I can't.. I can't pretend I don't want that scholarship" Alec started as he stuttered through his teeth, "I am tired of pretending I don't want what I want and I can't.. do that again, I can't".
"Alexander, I never said you had to hide that, I sup-"
"And I can't-" Alec started again, taking a deep breath before looking up at Magnus, because he knew he can't say what he wanted looking away from him, he had to see Magnus' face. He took a moment to memorize Magnus' features, as if he will never see them again, "I can't wait for you to break up with me in a few months, down the line. Everyday I am with you, I fall for you even more and I can't spend everyday just waiting and wondering if this is gonna be the day you break it off".
"Alexander" Magnus pleaded but Alec did not let up.
"I can't fall for you any more, just for you to.. to leave. I can't do that, Magnus" Alec said, he could see the hurt in Magnus' eyes, he was probably the only one who ever could see it.
"What are you saying?" Magnus asked in a voice he didn't recognize.
"I can't do this" Alec said again.
"You want to break up with me?" Magnus said with a raised eyebrow as if he couldn't believe what he was hearing.
Alec said nothing.
Magnus mustered up all the courage he could and held his head high, "Then do it" he said authoritatively, "I won't spare you the trouble, you will have to say it".
"Say it, Alexander".
"Say it".
"Say it!" Magnus was practically yelling now when Alexander finally spoke up "I want to break up with you".
Magnus discreetly sucked in a breath, "Well there you go" he said it casually.
"Let me just drive you home" Alec suggested.
"No, I can manage my own rides without you, have a goodnight Alex- Alec" Magnus said as he walked away, leaving Alec in his wake to wonder if this was the better or worse decision.
"Alec, what's wrong?" Isabelle suddenly appeared in front of her brother as she looked up at him with concern in her eyes.
"Nothing" Alec said, "I'm gonna go home".
"Wait, I'll come with"
"No" Alec said with a hint of finality to his tone, "Enjoy your night, Sebastian can give you a ride" he said as he practically ran to the door, not stopping to hear her call after him.
Clary still couldn't believe Simon was alive. Simon! Her childhood best friend whom she thought was killed because of her, he was alive and well, he was here, in Idris.
Lucian Graymark.
That was the man who helped Simon, he saved him. It was very weird that they didn't tell Luke Simon was alive, but they probably wanted to keep this a secret, for fear of that information finding its way to.. him. Still, she would have thought two agent working on different branches of the same case would have a quick chat every once in a while.
"You're thinking too much" Jace said.
"How would you know?" Clary countered with a smirk.
"I can feel your thoughts poking at my brain" Jace said.
"Don't worry, even my thoughts are aware your brain is a thought-free-zone" Clary said grinning evilly.
"That's where you are surely mistaken, Miss Fray" Jace said, "Because I have many, many thoughts. For example, I think of you on my bed, I think of you against my wall.."
"Do you think of me outside your bedroom?" she teased, with a shake of her head.
"On occasion, I think of you on the kitchen table, I'm not so picky, you know, when it comes to you".
"Of course not".
Jace looked once at Clary at his side before bringing his eyes back to the road, he said softly this time, the hint of teasing leaving his voice, "I think of you, stunning in Paris, letting your coffee and croissant get colder as you frantically paint some tourist trap, perhaps the Eiffel Tour".
"And where would you be?" she asked, the corner of her lip tugging upwards.
"Well obviously the star of your painting, you do so fixate on painting all of this, all the time" he gestured to himself.
"You wish" Clary huffed out, then she teased, "Would you be letting your coffee and croissant get colder as well?"
"No, I would keep moving during the painting" Jace said with a chuckle.
"You would drive me nuts" Clary said with a hint of exasperation as if he was doing it already.
"That's why I would do it" Jace said, "To see your nose crunch up when you get angry".
"My nose doesn't crunch".
"You're doing it right now".
"No I'm not"
"I can see you doing it"
"Well maybe you should be focusing on the road before you kill us both".
"Wouldn't want that" Jace said as he looked back at the road with a grin and Clary discreetly brought her hands to her nose to feel it, though not discreetly enough it would seem, since she heard the sound of Jace's blooming laughter fill the car.
It was a nice sound.
When it was silent again, she was left to her thoughts once more.
Lucian Graymark.
What a weird name. She was surprised she never heard of that name before from Luke or the other agents that would come by to help them move or in case of danger as Luke's backup. She felt like she would remember that name if she heard him somewhere, but she was sure she hadn't, still it rang familiar.
Jace parked his car right by her house and she smiled as she stepped out, surprised that he did as well, he reached her door as soon as she had opened it and reached out a hand to help her up which she accepted. He walked her to her door and stopped there, "You can come in if you'd like" she suggested as she saw him hover at the door.
"And risk getting killed?" Jace asked as if she was being ridiculous.
"No one is gonna kill you" Clary said, as she entered, leaving her jacket at the coat rack "I think".
"You think? Okay I got it, I'm leaving" Jace said but he stayed there, leaning against the door frame, "Kiss me before I go?"
Though he said it as a question, it didn't feel like a suggestion, it felt like a command, or perhaps that's how Clary chose to see it, she rested on hand on the wall as she declared "You're gonna have to come in for that".
"Well now I can't do that" Jace said though Clary knew he was teasing.
She shrugged as she turned around to head for her room in a painfully slow pace as she dramatically stated "I suppose there is nothing I can do to convince you. Alas I would have to go to bed with dreams of you kissing me to satisfy- AH", she screamed as Jace's hands circled around her waist and in a quick move he turned her around to face him as he slammed his lips down on hers, making her stumble until her back hit the handrail of the stairs.
She chuckled at his eagerness but her laughter was soon swallowed by the sound of her moans as she kissed Jace. She brought a hand to his jaw to bring him closer and he responded with his whole body, making the distance between them dwindle until it was diminished, the heat of his body radiated off him in waves, making hers hum to life with every stroke of skin or lips against hers.
"What about.. getting.. kill.. ed?" Clary asked between kisses.
"Worth the risk" Jace mumbled incoherently, his tone sounding hooded and lust filled, it made Clary shiver.
She opened her mouth and he thrusted his tongue immediately jumping at the advantage, he kissed her with hunger, with passion, as if she was the oxygen he breathed and if he let go for even a moment, he would suffocate. His hands on her waist stroked her body, bringing her impossibly closer as his touch set a fire in the pit of her stomach with every move he made.
Clary felt like she was in heaven, or possibly hell, because this kind of pleasure can't be holy.
The sound of someone clearing their throat broke them apart, each one jumping to a different corner of the room. Clary looked up annoyed, "Mom" she shrieked.
"I'm sorry sweetie, I heard ruckus" she said, "I thought someone must have broken in".
"I'm sure you did" Clary mumbled under her breath, Luke walked down the stairs then with a confident stride as he smiled at the two.
"So, how was your night?" Luke asked.
"Wonderful" Clary said shortly.
"Aren't you home early?" her mother asked.
Clary panicked momentarily before Jace stepped in, a hand draped around her shoulders as he lied fluently, "Well we had some punch, danced, saw the Winter Ball King and Queen, I would say the night came to a full circle".
"Yeah" Clary said nodding.
"Aha" Miranda said, and for a moment Clary was worried she could tell they were lying, but she just shrugged and said, "Well why don't you guys come in, we're watching Terminator 2, I could make you guys something to eat".
"Oh I love that movie" Jace said.
"It's my favorite" Luke said with a grin, "I knew there was a reason I liked you, come on in, join us".
"I can't I should probably head out, call my siblings and tell them I left and go see my grandma" Jace said.
"Maybe next time" Luke said.
"Of course" Jace nodded, giving Clary a quick peck on the lips before heading out a simple "Goodnight" out of him.
Clary turned back to her mother and Luke, "So Terminator 2?"
"You know it" Luke said.
"I didn't know it was your favorite" Clary said.
"Oh Luke is obsessed with it" Miranda said as she sat on the couch in front of the tv and the two soon followed her.
Huh, weird. I know someone else who is obsessed with this movie. Lucian Graymark.
Clary wanted to tell her mother so badly that Simon was alive, she would be so happy, she loved Simon as a son, but she worried that having someone from her old life back would make her mother pack her bags and book a plane as soon as humanly possible, so she decided to keep it a secret for now.
"Remember your Arnold impersonations all through high school? That was so bad" Miranda laughed.
"What do you mean? I rocked that" Luke said.
"Luke Garraway, you did not rock an Arnold impersonation" Miranda laughed.
Clary was pulled away from the moment as if her mind was suddenly freed of every single thing except one, as if she had to be shocked into figuring it out, it all hit at once. She suddenly remembered where she heard the name Lucian Graymark before or rather seen it.
She'd seen it before on one of Luke's fake IDs.
But it didn't make sense if Luke was Lucian and he helped save Simon then that means... "You lied to me" she didn't realize she had said it outloud until the two turned to her.
"What was that, honey?" Miranda asked.
"Luke, you lied to me" Clary said again, her eyes wide as her stare bore into the vase next to the TV as she couldn't look right at him, "You lied to me, Luke. Or should I say Lucian Graymark" she said as she turned her gaze at the two, to his credit Luke rocked a great poker face.
"What are you talking about, Clary?" Luke asked, his eyes narrowed as his shoulders tensed, he looked at her with concern which made it all the worse.
"Simon" Clary said, "You said he was dead, you said he was killed".
"Clary what are you talking about? Simon's been dead for years" Miranda intervened immediately but Clary saw the way Luke's eyes avoided hers. She wasn't crazy, he was alive, he was here.
"Is that the truth Luke or did you save Simon at the hospital and then lied to me about my best friend's death for years?" Clary's voice was getting higher now as she could feel her anger rising with each word she said, with every gaze he avoided.
"Luke" she yelled again, eager for an answer because she was almost sure but then again there was still hope.. she hoped..
"Clary, you know Simon died a long time ago" Luke said.
Clary stopped for a moment, her back straightened, shoulders sagging with disappointment as the look of shock and hurt placed over her features and she stuttered, "Did.. Did you just lie to me? AGAIN?!"
"Clary you need to calm down" her mother said.
"Don't tell me what to do" Clary snapped and looked back at Luke, "Did you, or did you not save Simon that night?"
"Clary-"
"Did you, or did you not save Simon that night?" she repeated her tone getting higher as she got closer to Luke with every word.
"You know that-"
"Yes or no, Luke? Did you save Simon that night?"
"YES!" Luke finally yelled and all hints of disappointment left Clary's face and she was left with hurt, she had hoped it wasn't true, pleaded it. But it was no use.
"And you lied to me" Clary said it, not as a question but she still waited for an answer.
"Yes" Luke repeated, a deflated tone now.
"Clary, wait, Luke-"
"Did you know?" Clary turned her sharp look at her mother, "Did you know that my best friend was alive and the one person whom we were supposed to trust lied to me about it?"
"No, she didn't" Luke intervened quickly but not before her mother responded "It was my idea".
Clary felt cold all of a sudden, as if a bucket of cold ice was dunked over her head, numbing her from head to toe, she couldn't feel anything, couldn't see anything, she assumed her mother was talking but she might as well have not said anything because Clary could not make out a single word being said to her.
She felt disconnected, as if her soul was leaving her body, everything was getting blurry and she had to force herself to pull it together, not another panic attack, no.
She shook her head back into reality and grabbed her purse as she walked out of her house with no words, she later could vaguely recall grabbing the phone with shaking hands, "Please" she whispered as she walked the cold and dark lonely night, "Please".
