Hi, everyone! I've been working very hard on this story and finally managed to write this piece. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did while writing it. Please feel free to review, I would love to hear your thoughts.
Disclaimer: I don't own My Hero Academia or any of its characters. Mizuki, however, is my own creation.
Let's start with the story, shall we?*
Chapter 5
10 months… That's how much time was left before the entrance exam of U.A. High School. It sounded like a lot, but it definitely wasn't. Mizuki was painfully aware of the time that was passing quickly.
She had to make sure that her body was in top notch shape and she had to crunch in study time since there were two tests she had to take. Izuku was already training as hard as he could. There was no way she was going to be left behind.
She had to make a training program for herself to get better control over her quirk and strengthen her body. If her body overheated, then she needed a way to work against it. She needed new limits and new possibilities. Luckily, she had a brother who was a training freak…
"MIZUKI!" Katsuki burst into her room, slamming the door open. A loud 'bang' echoed through the house and acting on instinct, Mizuki's body let off a flurry of explosions. She jumped up in bed, her red eyes darting around in panic.
"You better be down in five minutes or I'm leaving you behind to fail!" He told her and slammed the door closed behind him. Mizuki took her time as she stared at the door, not sure what happened and her half-asleep mind not functioning properly.
"… These were brand new bedding, Katsuki! You're going to buy me a new pair of my liking when you get your allowance!" She yelled back at him as soon as she regained her composure. She took a second to mourn over her soft, burnt bedding before she rushed into her training clothes.
She finally got those orange designed bedding two months ago. Her father had managed to get them from the most popular designer in Japan and if he wasn't known, it would've cost a fortune. It was a very sad day…
Mizuki burst out of her room and rushed downstairs. She barely got into her trainers and stumbled outside where her brother was waiting for her. She nearly tripped over her own feet but managed to catch her balance.
"You could've been more discreet! You know that I set off on instinct! Now I'll have to design my own bedding," she groaned out and gave her brother a narrowed glare. He rolled his eyes at her and started his jog.
"You whine but you still want to design."
Mizuki found no way to counter back at him and felt irritation build up when she couldn't deny his words. She scoffed and quickly picked up her pace when she came into her jog to catch up to her brother.
It was going to be a long 10 months, but it was going to be worth it.
She stared at her brother's muscular back as he jogged in front of her. He was her twin, her mirror image and yet they still differed greatly. They filled each other's weaknesses and strengthened each other in all situations.
Mizuki felt happiness swell up in her chest as the thought of becoming heroes with her brother. They were going to be together through it all and she couldn't wait. She felt determination push up in her chest, her feet starting to move faster as she joined her brother's side.
He glanced at her, their red eyes connecting and a challenging look gleaming through her eyes, a smirk forming onto her lips. "Try to keep up, Mister Number One." She gave him a wink and ran past him. Katsuki gave her a blank look before chuckling.
"Bring it, Designer Freak!"
Training with her brother wasn't easy but she appreciated it. He kept pushing her to her limits and the other way around. They knew each other's weak points and strengths and being as competitive as they were made things more interesting.
After school plans with friends lessened greatly as they studied and trained together, neither one of them daring to take some time off. As soon as their bodies gave signal, they would rest a day but train again the next.
Mizuki noticed that Izuku was also training crazy hard, his head in the game. He went to school half asleep and half in thought, his routine still happening at the beach. She only passed there once or twice but never stopped to watch him train otherwise it would shorten her own.
She wanted… No, needed to be the best. There was no hero she aspired to be or even used as a role model. No, she had to be her own. She had to be the one hero who could help in any situation. The ultimate hero who could save no matter the risk.
Yes, it was true that All MIght was the number one hero but she was aiming beyond him, much like her brother. The difference was that he looked up at All Might and although she respected the number one hero greatly, she didn't want to be like him.
She was aware of Izuku's continued fantism about the hero and she was sure that his entire room as still filled with posters and action figures from the hero. He still wore his All Might shirts at times. He wanted to be like All Might in every way and save everyone with a smile.
He truly was an inspiration.
"Stop daydreaming!" A hard knock brought Mizuki back to reality and she coughed for air. Mizuki staggered back and held her abdomen, looking up at her brother who was frowning down at her. Ah, that's right, they were busy fighting.
"If you can't even concentrate here you can forget even standing in my shadow at U.A!" Katsuki snapped at her. Mizuki shook off her thoughts and narrowed her eyes at her brother. He was pushing her buttons.
"We'll see about that!" She swung her right leg straight at him, his left arm blocking it in time but she also let off an explosion. She then charged with her fist drawn, she went to punch him and found that before she could land a hit, he caught her fist.
He smirked. "Don't think I'll fall for the same trick over and over again." He slammed his head onto hers, Mizuki gasping at the sudden strike. However, she refused to give up and slammed her head back at him before she grabbed onto his hands.
"I could say the same to you!"
Her grip tightened on him and they kept pushing each other back with their heads. Mizuki felt her body unconsciously start to warm up, her hands' temperature spiking as both of them secreted nitro-glycerine-like sweat.
A dangerously heated explosion came from her palms and they pulled back. Katsuki winced at the scorching heat and looked back at Mizuki who was staring wide-eyed at her hands. Their normal colour returned and a faint heat stayed.
I-It's the same as that time when I attacked the Villain. My body heated up to far that everything went white. Does that mean I can heat up a part of my body so much that it can heighten the temperature even more? She thought and hissed when her palms started to pulse in pain.
"You let your guard down!" She received a hard kick on her side and growled angrily. She grabbed Katsuki's leg and spun him around before throwing him away from her. He quickly regained his composure and used his explosions to propel him towards her.
I guess this fight is far from over.
Soft humming came from Mizuki as she sat on her bed, pencil in hand and a wooden board on her lap. She had her designer book open on the board with a few other different shades of pencils next to it.
Adjusting the pair of reading glasses, she had on her eyes she continued to scribble down on the paper. Her red eyes were concentrating hard, brows furrowed as she drew the designing plan onto the paper.
Today was one of the off days she had from training. She decided to wake up early and start with her designing to make sure she used the day to its fullest potential. Ever since then, her room became littered with crumbling papers.
"Let's see… The duvet cover should consist of natural fibres to not melt but it'll still burn slowly. That way it can be self-extinguished or quickly extinguished by me. I already measured the sheets so I'll have to get enough material for three 94'' by 100'' bedding," she muttered softly.
"It should take me about a day to make these so I'll have to go buy everything today. That way I can make them as soon as my next day off comes." She nodded to herself and took a sip of water from the glass that stood on her cupboard.
She had one of the big rooms in the house since she had all her designing equipment in her room. She had two wooden cupboards, side to side on the right side of her bed. One consisted of her clothing and the other one consisted of materials, patterns, different thread colours etc.
On the right side of her room she had large glass doors that led to her balcony. Located at the open area that led towards the exit stood two dress maker dummies. In the right corner was a large desk, divided into her studying area and her working space, on which one sewing machine was situated.
It was her designer paradise.
Mizuki tapped her chin with one of the pencils as she stared at her bedding sketch. One of the pencils had somehow found its way to rest on her ear, her slightly longer spiky ash blonde hair keeping it in place.
There was a beeping sound that resounded through her room. She ignored it, hoping it would go away the first but to her dismay, it only worsened. She let out a frustrated yell when it went off again and grabbed her phone.
"The person who's bothering me is going to get it! I don't care who it is but they're dead!" She growled out before her red eyes widened. She had 50 messages?! Who was looking so desperately for her?
"OMG, they're still going on about that video! Did you see it?" – KawaiiRin
"Yeah, it's amazing how much time people have on their hands" – BoysAreLifeAkira
"Mizuki! You need to check out this video! It's insane! 0o0" – KawaiiRin
"She's busy studying, unlike some people -_-" – BoysAreLifeAkira
Her two friends continued to argue on, the link of the video not sent on their group chat. Mizuki merely scrolled through everything, not wanting to read their bickering. She didn't have the time but her curiosity about the video argued with her.
"What video are you guys talking about?" – BestDesignerMichan
"See! She wasn't busy! -_- Anyway, check out this video! It came out a month after the sludge villain incident but the ratings are still going insane!" – KawaiiRin
Mizuki raised an eyebrow and waited for her friend to send the video's link. It was barely a second later and she received it. I don't get what this is all about but okay… She opened the video and waited for the buffering to stop before it played.
"It looks like a Middle School student! He's rushing straight towards that Villain! Is he insane?" A male voice yelled over the video as he recorded the scene where Izuku burst out of the crowd. The video was too blurred for anyone to make out that it was him.
She watched as he rushed out and threw the Villain with his backpack. Where it landed was a blur but the Villain pulled back and the two teens shouted at each other. She didn't get why anyone was freaking out so much-
Her eyes widened when her shadow jumped above the Villain. She watched in disbelief as her body turned bright white and an explosion erupted straight through the Villain, tearing its body in half. The columnar explosion was a bright white colour and reached towards the sky.
No way…
She scrolled down the video as she looked at the comments. People were talking about 'Heavens' Judgement' towards the villain, 'New hero?', 'What type of quirk is that?'. The comments continued and she swallowed thickly.
"I'll meet you guys at our normal café in five. Akira, make sure to bring your laptop" – BestDesignerMichan
Mizuki jumped off her bed and took off her glasses. She grabbed a plum red jacket out of her cupboard and skipped into black and plum red coloured jockey boots. She burst out of her room and ran down the stairs.
"Mom, I'm going out with the girls for a bit! I'll be back before supper!" She called out and heard a faint 'okay' coming from her Mother before she rushed out of the house. She didn't give anyone a chance to even ask the reason behind her rush.
I can't believe it. That was me? I know that my body turned white. I didn't think it would be to such an extend! Damn it. If anyone sees that video from our school, they'll definitely know it's me. I need to know if they will be able to identify my face.
Mizuki arrived out of breath at the Strawberry Café, out of breath and warm from the sudden sprint. She heard a call for her name and turned around to see Akira and Rinako walking towards her, a laptop underneath the dark-haired girl's arm.
"Mizuki-chan, we're here. What's wrong? Did something happen? I'm sorry if I upset you by showing you the video of the villain and your brother," Rinako apologized and Mizuki shook her head before looking at Akira.
"Could you start up your laptop and open up that video?" Mizuki received a nod and they entered the café. Their corner on the right-hand side was open and Rinako put in their usual orders. The trio sat down, Akira in the middle of them.
"Can't you sit any closer?" She sarcastically asked and let out a sigh. "Whatever. I downloaded the video as soon as it came out because I thought it was cool material to use… Here you go." Akira played the video, the male voice reaching their ears.
They watched the video once again, her friends unsure what they were looking for or even if they were looking for something. Mizuki gestured for Akira to play it again and she complied, her confusion growing.
"Mizuki-""Stop it as soon as that figure jumps above the Villain," Mizuki cut in and the dark haired female nodded. They watched as Katsuki yelled at the boy who rushed out at him and the figure appeared on que.
"Pause. Great! Can you zoom in and heighten the quality of the image? I just want to see something," Mizuki asked her friend. She received a disapproving look from Akira as she cracked her fingers.
"Who do you think you're talking to? I'm a tech genius!" She stared intensely at the screen, the image reflecting onto her glasses. Her fingers were ramming into the computer, the speed picking up as she continued.
"T-That's kind of scary." Rinako paled as she watched the girl work her magic. She managed to zoom in on the image and then typed in a bunch of codes, the resolution starting to heighten. Rinako narrowed her eyes as the figure came into view, familiar ash blonde hair suddenly visible.
"No way… That's you, Mizuki-chan?!"
Mizuki let out a deep sigh. "Yeah, luckily it isn't that significant. I was worried that someone would find this and then spread it around saying it was me. It's bad enough that Katsuki's name is mentioned. It would be worse if it said that his sister saved him," she said.
"What are you talking about?! You… You… You're the one who did that awesome thing?!" Rinako was quickly silence when Akira covered her mouth with her hand. Mizuki showed her to keep silent and she swallowed thickly.
"S-sorry…"
"It's been at least three months since the incident and they're still going on about it. I hate to tell you, Mizuki, but your brother is going to be known for a long time. Especially since this video is viral," Akira pointed out and a peculiar gleam passed Mizuki's eyes.
"Then, Tech Genius, would you be so kind to erase it?"
"Wha-?! Do you know on how many different sites, channels and networks this thing is?! I'd have to track them down, link all of them, which is not as easy as it sounds, and then-" Mizuki gave her an unimpressed look and Akira cleared her throat.
"Give me one hour."
"Yes! You're the absolute best!" She was tightly embraced by the two girls and groaned, yet smiled unconsciously. She then pushed them off her, scowling at them for entering her personal space that had them laughing at her.
Mizuki let out a sigh of relief as Akira started to hack into the internet, her fingers gliding over the keyboard. Rinako cheered as their drinks arrived and them ordered each of them a large piece of cake.
Mizuki was grateful that she had these two as her friends. All she needed to say was meet her there and they arrived without hesitation. She could count on them and hopefully when they go to separate High Schools, they would still have the same friendship.
"Neh, Mizuki-chan, is that a pencil in your hair?" Rinako's voice made her snap out of her thoughts. She saw the two of her friends look at her with blank expressions before they both burst out laughing.
Mizuki blushed as she went to feel the pencil that was still resting on her ear. "I-I was busy designing! I-It can't be helped! You know how I get…" She pouted at them, feeling a bit embarrassed for forgetting about the pencil.
"Yeah, we know how you get as soon as you go into Designer Mode. Glasses on, world off. I'm surprised you actually replied to our texting," Rinako pointed out, cutting a piece of cake before taking a bite.
"You didn't leave me a choice. I swear, next time I'm switching off my phone. You can break down the front door if someone's dying," she playfully threatened them. Afterwards she indulged in the wonderful piece of cake that was brought.
She knew that it wasn't a good choice to eat the piece of cake in the middle of her training regimen but she couldn't care less. She deserved it after all her work. If she started training the next day, she would make sure to train extra hard. After all, she and her brother were going to be fine.
"Ah, that reminds me. Did you two finally decide what high school you're going to apply for? There is still a bit of time left to apply if you haven't decided yet," Mizuki added the last part and watched as Rinako finished with her drink.
"Father said that he wanted me to go to Tokyo High since no other school fitted his little girl. I'm not made out of steel like you to go to U.A.," Rinako answered and Mizuki sweat dropped. She was once again reminded that Rinako was the spoiled only child.
Akira scoffed, but never took her eyes off from the screen. "U.A. isn't for you, especially when you're made out of glass… I received a bursary from Tokyo High so I will also be attending it. Besides, they have the best IT technology," Akira informed them and Rinako cheered.
"We're going to be together!"
"Yay…" Akira sarcastically murmured underneath her breath despite having a small smile that formed onto her lips that gave away her true emotions. Rinako then looked at Mizuki, her facial expression changing into one that showed a playful seriousness.
"Don't you dare forget about us, Mizuki-chan. You better come and visit or at least be available when we arrange an outing," she warned and Mizuki held up her hands in surrender, a grin forming onto her lips.
"You have my word."
