Hi, everyone! I've been working very hard on this story and finally managed to write this piece. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did while writing it. Please feel free to review, I would love to hear your thoughts.
Disclaimer: I don't own My Hero Academia or any of its characters. Mizuki, however, is my own creation.
Let's start with the story, shall we?*
Chapter 6
10 months later… The day of the exam
She was nervous.
Mizuki sat at the kitchen table, almost unable to eat the few pieces of toast on her plate. She could feel her heart pumping harder than usual, the stress of the day finally kicking in. However, she managed to keep her composure and pushed the uneasy feelings away.
"Today is finally the day, huh? You two have been training extremely hard. Your Father and I couldn't be prouder. Go out there and do your best," her Mother told her with a big grin on her face, her hands resting on her father's shoulders.
"Thanks, Mom, Dad," Mizuki softly said, her brother merely giving a grunt where he sat next to her. They both wore their usual Junior High uniform. However, her hair had grown longer and was now hoisted up in a small ponytail.
Katsuki was unusually quiet as he ate his breakfast. She wondered how he was able not to feel even a tinge of nervousness. Maybe she was overthinking it too much? Of course, she was. She trained hard with her brother and they had a powerful quirk.
No matter what was thrown her way, she would be able to overcome it. After all, she was a Bakugou and a twin to the man who will become number one. There was no way she was being left behind. She was going to reach the top.
"Let's go, Mizuki," Katsuki spoke up as he stood up from the table and Mizuki was brought out of her thoughts. She quickly finished off the last pieces of toast she had and then stood up. She put their plates in the sink, Katsuki already out of the kitchen and heading towards the door.
"Bye, Mom, Dad!"
"Bye, Mizuki! Bye, Katsuki! You can greet your parents as well, spoiled brat!" Mitsuki snapped the last part at her son as she glared at his figure. Katsuki stopped before he could reach the door and let out a breath.
"Bye, Old Lady, Old Man,"
Mizuki smiled softly at her brother and snickered inwardly. She grabbed her beige coloured scarf and handed her brother his. They put on their school shoes and then exited their home, on their way towards U.A. High School.
Mizuki heard a beeping sound from her phone and raised an eyebrow. Who would want to contact her now of all times? She pulled out her phone, her brother's gaze on her figure from the corner of his eye.
"Good luck, Explodo Girl! Go kick ass! Show that stupid brother that you're better!" KawaiiRen
"Do your best. We know that you have that crazy power to do it" – BoysAreLifeAkira
Mizuki looked at the messages she received and chuckled. Her brother tried to read the messages but she was quicker than him and pocketed her phone. She gave him a wide grin and he scoffed at her.
"Whatever. At least those messages made you calmer. Your emotions are all over the place again. Stop being nervous." Katsuki grunted and Mizuki brought her hands up in a surrendering pose while giving him a cocky look.
"Sorry, Mister Number One, not all of us are as cool and smooth about everything like you. I know you got all of Mom's genes so you're unfazed about this kind of stuff but I actually got Dad's too. It's only natural for me to be a little stressed," Mizuki pointed at him and he rolled his eyes.
"You got your overdramatic attitude from the Old Lady," he told her and Mizuki looked at him with a gaped mouth. He didn't. He gave her a mocking look and a vein popped out of her temple, sparks setting off in the palms of her hands.
"You want to go?!"
Katsuki watched as she gave him a maniacally grin, her red eyes gleaming brightly before he chuckled. Mizuki could feel her anger soaring at his nonchalant method of brushing her off. She gritted her teeth and clenched her fists.
"That's much better." Her eyes widened at his words. Wait, what? She looked at him in confusion, her anger evaporating. She eyed him carefully, the gears in her head turning and then something clicked.
She wasn't nervous anymore.
He got her all riled up to make her forget about the stress of the test and it worked like a charm. She felt his calmness wash over her and held her hands close to her chest. He was stupid and rash and aggressive and…the best brother ever.
By the time they arrived at their destination, they were both silent. Mizuki read the banner, the text 'U.A. High School Entrance Exam' written clearly for the students to see. She then looked up at the school and admired the very large building.
"This is where it all begins…" She whispered softly and Katsuki smirked. He could feel his sister's excitement start to boil with his own. They were going to crush this exam and then climb the rankings higher than anyone has ever seen.
Mizuki then caught sight of familiar bushy green hair, her face lighting up when she saw Izuku stand in the pathway. He looked to be deep in thought and she wondered if he was nervous. She smiled and walked towards him.
"Hey, Izu-""Out of the way, Deku!"
Her brother cut her off and Izuku turned around to see the twins walking towards him. "Don't stand in front of me. I'll kill you!" Katsuki snapped at the male and Izuku nervously waved his arms in front of him.
"M-Morning! L-Let's do o-our b-best!"
"Don't even give him the time of day, Izu-kun," Mizuki said as she watched her brother walk passed her friend. She looked at him, Izuku letting out a deep sigh. He tried not to stutter but it was in vain after all.
He gave her a smile, his green eyes lighting up. "I'm glad to see you, Mi-chan. Good luck with today's test! Let's both do our best." He pumped his fist in the air and Mizuki chuckled. She put her hand on his shoulder, her dazzling smile warming up her friend's heart.
"Good luck to you too and remember to kick some ass!" She said and gave him a wink making the green haired teen blush. All Might's words rang in his head and he mentally tried to push away his words.
"Mizuki!"
"Coming! See you later, Izu-kun!" She waved him off and ran back to her brother's side. Izuku gave her a weak wave back and then looked at the ground. His face was hot and he tried to think about everything else except his mentor's words. After all, they were just friends…
Mizuki wanted to talk to her brother but saw that his gaze changed completely. He was concentrating hard, his eyes narrowed and his scowl merely a frown. Deciding that she shouldn't bother him, she kept quiet and walked by his side.
This was his way of getting his mind in the game and she knew he would be angry if she brought him out of his concentration. It was also time she took this seriously. She could always use the excitement as a boost despite it still being serious. It was their future.
"Hey, isn't that Bakugou? The one with the sludge Villain?" One of the students question and Mizuki's aura darkened. "Oh! And it looks like he has a twin!" She glared at the two males at the side, her deadly look making them flinch.
"Shut up, scum," she darkly snarled at them and they cried out in fear as they fell backwards. She grunted in satisfaction and turned back to the doors in front of them. The rest of the students made way for them, not wanting to come in their way.
After following the boards through the building, they finally arrived at the Exam Orientation room for the hero course. All the students were seated in a large auditorium, Mizuki finding that she was sitting next to her brother, Izuku on the other side of him.
Izuku gave her a wave but stopped midway when Katsuki glared at him and merely gave a smile before he went to sit down. Mizuki then looked at the stage where a familiar male came into view, his strange slid back blonde hair, volume enhancer around his neck and mad grin signature to him.
"All you examinee listeners tuning in… Welcome to my show today! Everybody say, 'hey'!" The Pro Hero exclaimed while throwing out his arms. However, instead of receiving a reply, all he received was absolute silence.
"What a refined response… Well, then I'll quickly present to you the rundown on the practical exam. Are you ready?! Yeah!" Silence. Mizuki had to say that it was quite amusing how no one was going to respond to his craziness.
"It's the Voice Hero, Present Mic! Wow…! I listen to him every week on the radio. I'm so moved! All the teachers at U.A. are pro heroes!" Izuku freaked out. Katsuki was quick to tell him to keep quiet while Mizuki chuckled.
"As it says in the application requirements, you listeners will be conducting ten-minute mock urban battles after this! You can bring whatever you want with you. After the presentation, you'll head to the specified battle centre, okay?" Present Mic exclaimed and Mizuki looked at her card.
Exam ticket
Examinee No. 2232
Test Location: Battle Centre C
Mizuki stared at her card and then glanced at her brother who was at battle centre A. I guess we're not going to be together then. We'll be split up and it'll cause that no one would be able to work together with their friends. Clever. She thought as her brother clicked his tongue.
"Damn, now I can't crush you," he scowled towards Izuku and the two next to him sweat dropped at his words. Mizuki lay her cheek onto her hand and looked back at Present Mic. It also meant that they weren't going to compete against each other in the same battle centre.
Too bad.
"Three different types of faux villains are stationed in each battle centre. You gain points for defeating each of them depending on their difficulty level. You are to use your Quirks to immobilize each of them. Naturally, attacking other examinees and unheroic actions are prohibited!"
"May I ask a question?" A very loud, obnoxious voice resounded throughout the hall and Mizuki saw a male stand up, his hand held high. "On the printout, there are four villains. If that's a misprint, then U.A, the most prestigious school in Japan, should be ashamed of that foolish mistake."
This guy-! He isn't serious!
"We examinees are here because we wish to develop into extraordinary heroes. In addition, you over there with the curly hair!" He pointed at Izuku. "You continue to mutter. It's distracting! If you're here on vacation, leave immediately!" He stated and Mizuki's brow twitched.
He's so dead.
"Okay, okay, Examinee Number 7111. Thanks for the feedback. The fourth type of villain is worth zero points. It's so to speak an obstacle. It'll go crazy in narrow spaces and although it can be defeated, there's no reason to defeat it. I recommend you try to avoid it," Present Mic said.
Mizuki and Katsuki, being both in sync had the same thought. No way. If it's an obstacle, then it'll be blown away. They thought and then turned their attention back towards the Pro Hero as he started to finish.
"Finally, I'll give you listeners a present… Our school motto! The hero Napoleon Bonaparte once said: 'A true hero is someone who overcomes life's misfortunes.' Go beyond. Plus Ultra!" He shouted out and grinned.
"Good luck suffering!"
Mizuki smirked as she took her examinee card. This is going to be fun. All doubts flew out the window and she was prepared for anything. She was going to come out to the top and the only one who she was competing with, was her brother.
"Don't fall too far behind, Fabric Conditioner."
Mizuki scoffed. "You wish. I'll see you at spot number two, right behind me, Explodo-kill," she countered back and he laughed. The teens around them gave them strange looked but they couldn't care less.
Izuku looked at the twins, a small smile coming onto his lips. They were always like that. They would argue a lot and fight but they were always competitive with each other. They were strong and riling up each other was their nature.
They were both very different and very similar.
U.A. High School Hero Course
Entrance Exam
Battle Centre: C
Mizuki stretched her arms out as she stood in front of the large doors of the battle centre that was assigned to them. Everyone who was at the same field as her was busy with their own business and some groups were formed as they chatted away.
The only thing on her mind was the fight that lay in front of her.
She wore a pair of short black spandex pants and a sleeveless green top that fitted loosely. She wore her usual training shoes. She felt her hair coming in her way and growled. She grabbed the bands around her wrist and hoisted up her hair, putting it in a pony tail.
"Hey, you!" She heard a loud male voice call and glanced back, his eyes widening. "Ah, sorry, I thought you were someone else! You look so much like that guy who was involved in the sludge villain incident!" The spikey black-haired male pointed out.
Mizuki's brow twitched and she turned towards him after she finished up with her hair. "Yeah, because I'm his twin sister. Do you have a problem, Spiky Head?" She asked him, her one hand resting on her hip and red eyes eyeing him carefully.
"Whoa, really?! No wonder you look so much like him!" He gave her a wide spiky teeth grin and outstretched his hand towards her. "I'm Kirishima Eijiro! Nice to meet you!" He introduced himself and Mizuki smirked as she took his hand.
Kirishima Eijiro
Age: 14
Quirk: Hardening
"Nice to meet you. I'm Bakugou Mizuki." She shook his hand and watched as his face lit up in excitement along with happiness. He must've been glad to be able to meet someone. He seems to have a lot of energy. It's kind of contagious. She thought.
"Nice to meet you, Bakugou-""My brother is Bakugou. Please call me Mizuki otherwise it'll be confusing. Anyway, you sure are pumped up for this test. I've only seen a few nervous wrecks," she said and Eijiro chuckled.
"Yeah, I'm super excited! I trained hard for this test! I can't wait to show what I'm made of!" He boasted, Mizuki snickering at him and causing him to blush. "N-Not that I mean to be arrogant or anything-!"
"Nothing wrong with arrogance. As long as you can back your words, then why not show what you're made of?" Mizuki told him and he blinked a few times at her words. Everything she said had its own confidence showing in the background.
"That's such a manly thing to say!"
Mizuki burst out laughing at his statement and had him blushing again. He was a strange guy but he didn't look that bad at all. She gave him a dazzling smile while clenching her fists tightly, eyes shining slightly.
"Then I'll show you how manly I can back them as well!" She added and Eijiro was stunned. Who was this girl? She was taking up the challenge and her attitude practically screamed that she was going to be victorious.
Even her athletic build, the way she carried herself and wasn't afraid of wearing comfortable training clothing showed her confidence. He felt his heart give a few loud pounds against his chest and then grinned back at her.
"Yeah, same here!"
"ALRIGHT!" Present Mic's voice reached them and Mizuki glanced up at his small figure on top of a large tower. "THE TEST STARTS NOW!" Before anyone could even process his words, a large explosion erupted from Mizuki.
She took the lead by a long shot, flying through the air after letting explosions loose from her feet. Everyone watched her in shock as she pushed forwards and then followed, none of them wanting to be left behind.
Eijiro managed to cut through and ran in front with a few other students as he watched Mizuki's figure rush off. He was amazed at her speed and how fast her reaction time was. She wasn't going to be easy to catch up with.
Mizuki looked around, red eyes scanning the area. She heard a crash and a three-pointer robot came into view. A smirk came onto her lips and she jumped in the air. Steam came from her right leg and with a cry she kicked the robot in his face, the impact followed by an explosion.
"That's three points."
She fell with the robot and then landed gracefully, the machine exploding behind her before she advanced. It was barely even a minute and she already finished off one. If the robots kept coming then she was going to stock up points faster than she planned.
Two one-pointers approached slowly from two alleyways, opposite of her and her palms heated up. She extended her palms to each robot and let out a large explosion, the two robots exploding from the large wave.
"Five points."
"Seven points."
"Twelve points."
"Eighteen points."
Mizuki continued to increase her score, no robot daring to stand in her way. She could hear fighting from the other students behind her and even on other areas of the battle centre. She was surprised to find that there were even more robots to be destroyed, since she took out each and every one, she found.
"RWAH!" She heard yelling and stopped as she glanced back. She saw the redhead from earlier break through the metal of the machine with mere strength, his body hardened. She had to say that she was impressed.
Eijiro felt her eyes on him and gave her a wide grin, a cocky look gleaming in his eyes. Mizuki chuckled and sparks came from the palm of her hands. She saw his eyes widened and clenched her fist tightly.
"Watch out!"
She spun around, throwing out her hand straight towards the robot behind her. When she touched the cold metal, an explosion erupted and triggered chain reactions. As the smoke emerged, she advanced leaving a starstruck male behind.
"That makes 42 points," she muttered underneath her breath and gazed around. There were much less robots around now but she was sure that there would be more. After all, they were a lot of students at U.A who were applying for the Hero Course.
"Seven minutes left!"
Finding her body moving faster, she found more one pointer robots and quickly destroyed them, jumping towards a two pointer that one of the students were running towards. She heard an unhappy cry behind her and huffed.
"If you're too slow, you lose," she grumbled out and then ran on. She had no mercy when it came to the battlefield. It was surviving or dying. Even if this was only a school test, this was the first step to becoming a hero. Nothing was a game anymore.
"AHHH!" A shrill voice yelled out and Mizuki had to cover her ears. Students were running drastically passed her, everyone filled with fear. "It's the Zero pointer robot! Get away!" The shouts continued and Mizuki's brows furrowed.
"What are they-Oh shit." She cursed as she looked up at the large robot that turned around the corner. "It had to be a big ass piece of metal that goes crazy in narrow spaces." She took one step back and then inhaled deeply.
Think, there had to be a reason they made this robot. Why would they give it zero points and let it loose? She tried to think, the large chunk of metal approaching. She heated up her body and pushed her thoughts back. There was no time to lose. This robot had to move.
"Help! I can't move!" A male voice called and Mizuki felt her blood ran cold. She looked at the rubble from the destroyed building and saw a blonde male laying underneath a piece of concrete, half of his upper body covered.
"That robot's going to crush him!" Eijiro's voice reached her ears as he ran towards the scene and Mizuki's gears spun into place. She felt her muscles relax, the heat in her body increasing and her lips pulled into a thin line.
"Use your quirk and get him from under there!"
She called behind her, the red eyed male looking at her. He blinked a few times before nodding. "R-Right! W-What about you?" He asked but his question fell on deaf ears as she ran straight towards the robot.
"Don't tell me she's actually going to take that thing down?!"
Eijiro knew the answer to the question that was shouted by the students behind him and smirked. "Geez, she's crazy! But alright!" He ran towards the trapped blonde and activated his hardening in the process.
Mizuki saw the robot near them and couldn't stop the large grin that formed. A trail of sweat cascaded down the side of her face and steam came off from her body. She crunched down and let loose a large explosion, shooting her body into the air.
"I haven't tried this again so here goes!" She pulled back her legs, her skin starting to turn a white colour, her temperature rising. She let out a cry and shot her legs straight into the villain robot's large face.
"Piercing Explosion!"
The explosion cut straight through its metal body, the metal her legs touched even melted from the heat. She gritted her teeth at the pain of her muscles burning in her legs and fell backwards towards the ground.
I didn't think that through. She thought as she winced at the pain in her legs. The robot was destroyed, the pieces melted from the heat but her legs were overheated. There was no way she was going to be able to land on them.
However, she could soften her landing, she just had to let out explosions before she landed. She braced herself and clenched her muscles tightly. She let out a large explosion from her body a few feet from the ground and slowed her momentum.
She heard a grunt and landed much softer than she expected. Red eyed opened and stared back at a pair of crimson orbs. Mizuki stared at the familiar male face and he grinned down at her, the grip of his arms tightly around her shoulder and leg.
He caught her.
"Man, that was awesome! You blew that robot to kingdom come! You really are amazing, Mizuki!" Eijiro stated, Mizuki giving him a faint smile as her legs pulsed. He felt the heat beneath his hand and looked at her legs, the skin turning a red colour.
"Are you alright?"
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine. You can let me down now. We still have time for the test to go on," Mizuki told him and felt her face also start to warm up, but this time in embarrassment. The way he held her was…a bit awkward.
Eijiro gently let her down and Mizuki bit back a curse when she stood on her own two feet. It hurt like hell. She knew the doctor warned her against overheating her body but she never listened and this was the result.
"TIME'S UP!"
An alarm echoed through the air and Mizuki let out a sigh. She hoped that eh made enough points after giving her time to save that blonde male… Wait… Save…? That's it! It was a hero exam! There had to be some other point system that came into play!
"I guess that's it," Mizuki said and went to turn around and winced, not daring to move her legs. How was she going to walk like this? She scowled at herself for being careless. It happened the last time as well. All that matter was to save the person in danger.
Mizuki yelped in surprise when Eijiro suddenly put a hand on her shoulder. "You look like you need some help." He pointed down at her legs that steamed slightly. Mizuki looked at him, her pride yelling loudly at her.
"No, I'm fine, thank you," Mizuki stated, her pride much too big to have someone help her out from her predicament. Eijiro chuckled at the stubborn female and scratched the back of his head. There was only one way to deal with such a person.
"Well, I'll see you then!"
Mizuki watched as he took off and felt dread wash over her. "W-Wait!" She held out her arm and watched as he stopped to look back at her. She swallowed thickly and bit her bottom lip. She did need his help but she couldn't find herself to ask him.
She just met him! She couldn't expect him to help her. That would be strange and out of character for her to ask for help. She was the one who always helped. It wasn't the other way around. No, she was not going to-
"W-What the-? H-Hey!" Eijiro pulled her up with his one arm around her shoulder and help her other arm around his shoulder. He took most of the weight off her legs and the relief of pain was immediately a blessing to Mizuki.
"You're a hard one to crack, aren't you?" He pointed out with his toothy grin and kind red eyes. Mizuki averted her eyes to the ground, not wanting him to see the slight blush that creeped its way onto her cheeks.
"T-Thank you."
"Good work, everyone!" An older female came into view and everyone turned to see the small woman. "Here you go, you have some gummies" She handed a few students sweets, everyone confused at first.
"That must be Recovery Girl," Mizuki stated and Eijiro glanced at her. "She's U.A. High's licensed school nurse, the Youthful Heroine. She has the ability to super activate the healing ability of one's body." Eijiro's eyes widened.
"Wow, that's amazing. No wonder U.A. can have reckless entrance exams like these," he pointed out, looking back at Mizuki. "You're very smart to know that. I didn't even know U.A. had someone like her," Eijiro said and Mizuki chuckled.
Only because of Izu-kun. Which reminds me-
"Ah, looks like you have some serious hyperthermia in your legs," Recovery Girl's voice broke Mizuki out of her thoughts. She looked down at the female and received a displeasing look from the older woman.
"Luckily, it's only in your legs. It would be a serious problem if it was your entire body. Stay still." Mizuki nodded and then paled when the old woman's lips suddenly kissed her forehead. Eijiro turned slightly blue at the sight but was then amazed when Mizuki's legs turned back to normal.
"Take these gummies now and then later tonight." Mizuki held out her hand as she received sweets from Recovery Girl. She thanked the older woman before the heroine continued to give out gummies to make sure no one else was injured.
Eijiro let her go as Mizuki stood on her own, a bit of exhaustion washing over her but it was bearable. She let out a relieved smile and looked at her hands. They were still fine and there was nothing wrong with the rest of her body.
Great.
"Y-You two!" Eijiro and Mizuki glanced back at the blonde male who was trapped beneath the rubble. "T-Thank you so much! I don't know what I would've done if you didn't save me. Thank you!" he said and Mizuki frowned down at him.
She walked towards him, the two males suddenly on the edge because of her temper. She pulled back her hand and then gently hit the male on his head with the side of her hand. He gave her a look of complete confusion.
"Next time, don't be the one to be saved. Instead, save someone," she told him and watched as he looked at her with big eyes. Eijiro looked at her, a stunned expression plastered on his face as he stared at the scene.
"Y-Yeah! T-Thank you!"
Mizuki grunted and looked back at Eijiro. "Thanks for the help, Kirishima. Hopefully, I'll see you in class. Oh, and well done in backing your words. You were very manly out there." She gave him a wink with a smile and then walked away. She was done for today and she needed a shower.
After all, she deserved it.
