Let's start with the story, shall we?*
Chapter 19
The sports festival was around the corner, everyone training hard and giving their best in the preparations. It was an enormous opportunity for the hero course to get the best possible scouts while the other courses were either hoping for their own scouting or for receiving placement in the hero course.
The tension was high, but not quite as much as the excitement. It was the first big, normal school event that would take place. Hundreds of people were going to attend to watch the interactions and no one wanted to disappoint. Almost no one.
"Dude, I'm serious. She's like the hot version of Bakugou. Have you ever seen her ass?" Mineta whispered to Kaminari who walked next to him on their way to the men's changing rooms. Kaminari cupped his chin as he thought.
"Mm, but it's not that prominent since she's walking around in his P.E. clothing. Her best features would be her skin and curves," Kaminari told him with furrowed brows as he deeply thought about the subject.
Mineta suddenly shot his arm out, stopping Kaminari dead in his tracks. He held his finger on his mouth, yelling him to keep quiet. Kaminari raised an eyebrow and then looked to where Mineta was pointing. A familiar ash blonde walking in P.E. clothing down the hall.
"Guys, what are you doi-""Shhhh!" Mineta and Kaminari whispered harshly towards the male, Eijiro's brows furrowing. He looked to where the other two males looked and a deep frown coming onto his lips.
"You can still see it, Kaminari! You can still see the curves very nicely…" Mineta murmured to the male next to him, Kaminari nodding at everything he said. The best feature was still visible, leaving them with a bit of imagination as well.
"Guys-!"
"Shh! Can't you see we're trying to get a little eye candy with Mizuki's ass?!" Mineta yelled angrily at the redhead. There was poking on his shoulder and he raised an eyebrow. He glanced back, his face whitening along with Kaminari.
"Hey, Shit for Brains, what exactly where you looking at, huh?!" Katsuki, who was the one they had been looking at all along, snarled threateningly and explosions erupted from his hand palms. He was going to kill them.
"That's what I tried to tell you," Eijiro said with a sigh and shook his head. Kaminari and Mineta held onto each other for life as Katsuki threatened them. They had gotten themselves into this mess and they were going to pay the consequences.
"DIE!"
"SAVE US!"
A cascade of explosions later had the two laying on the ground with bruises and burns. Katsuki breathed smoke above them, steam emerging from his hand palms. Their last sight in the land of the living wasn't even the one they had hoped for.
Mizuki stepped out from the ladies' changing room and glanced to her side to see the ruckus that was made. She chuckled in amusement at her brother's looming figure over the defeated bodies of Mineta and Kaminari.
"Mizuki!" Eijiro called, waving at her as he grinned brightly. Mizuki felt her heart warm up at the male's happiness and couldn't help the smile that formed onto her lips. It was always refreshing to see his goofy grin.
"Hey, Red, you look satisfied. Did you have a good training session?" Mizuki asked, coming to a halt and resting her hands on her hips. She caught sight of a few rubble marks on his skin and resisted a snicker.
There wasn't a day that he didn't have a few marks on him, giving her the impression that he wasn't holding back. She was thrilled to see how he progressed and what he was going to show her during this tournament.
"Yeah! Today went great! I feel ready for this sports festival! What about you? How did your training go?" Eijiro asked as he joined Mizuki's side. Her red eyes were bright, showing the intenseness that hadn't faded over the days.
In the shadows, around the corner of the halls emerged a presence that stared straight at Mizuki. The gaze was forceful and penetrating, the ash blonde female not giving it a time of day despite Eijiro paling slightly.
"Of course, it went well. Who do you think you're talking to? I'm ready to blow everyone away so you better be ready, Red. I'm not going to hold back if I go up against you," Mizuki challenged, a gleam of mischief flashing through her eyes.
Eijiro laughed sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head. "I wouldn't want it any other way. I won't be holding back either! Ah, not that I don't respect you as a girl or anything! I do!" Eijiro continued to babble and Mizuki laughed.
He's too cute. Mizuki thought and patted him on his shoulder. "Don't worry, Red. I know you're manly enough not to pick on girls. However, I'm not a normal girl, now, am I? You're going to have to bring your best," Mizuki said with a wink.
Eijiro's face softened and he nodded. "Yeah, I know," he said softly and Mizuki blinked in confusion. He seemed a bit…off? There was a peculiar gleam in his eyes that made her worry. Was he getting sick? Was he stressing about something?
"Um, I've been wondering about this for a while now but I think you have someone that wants to talk to you," Eijiro stated, the gaze becoming unbearable to ignore. It was kind of creepy, the person laughing in a shrill voice.
Mizuki sighed. "Yeah, sorry about that. Mind if we continue with this later?" Mizuki asked and he shook his head. "Great, I'll see you in class, Red." Mizuki waved at him and turned around to walk towards the strange presence.
Eijiro stared at her in a longing way. He had many things that were on his mind and had little sleep in front the previous night. He stayed up, staring at his phone, wondering if he should contact her or not. He eventually fell asleep and ended up not calling her.
What was he going to say? Mizuki was the most intelligent, hardcore, manly and beautiful girl he knew. She was popular, the class representative and she received first place in the practical exam. She was completely out of his league.
There were many things that she did that made him wonder if she felt the same. She always motivated him, not backing away with her words. Not to mention the statements she said that caught him off guard.
"In all honesty, no hero has ever made such an impact on me… I guess I'm still waiting… So, don't let me wait for too long, Red…"
He sighed and ruffled the back of his head, turning away. He opened his eyes to see a familiar scruffy, green haired male stepping out of the boys' changing room. Izuku flinched at the two boys who were at Katsuki's mercy and slowly crept away.
"Midoriya!" Eijiro called and made him jump slightly. Izuku noticed that it was only the redhead calling him and let out a sigh of relief. For a moment he thought that he was in trouble or that Kaminari was calling for his help.
"Hello, Kirishima-kun. How are you doing today? Oh! I saw you during training today! It's really amazing how you're able to take on the impact from that high up!" Izuku beamed, his eyes sparkling and Eijiro grinned.
"Thanks! You too! Looks like you're not breaking anything so far. I hope that you keep it up," Eijiro pointed out Izuku laughed blushingly with a vague nod. He was surprised that Izuku hadn't ended up in the infirmary yet.
"Y-Yeah, it's all thanks to Mi-chan. She helped me a bit with my Quirk the other day. I'm trying something new now," Izuku said while scratching his cheek in habit. He saw Eijiro's face fall slightly and swallowed thickly.
"I-Is there something you wanted to ask me, Kirishima-kun?" Izuku asked, wondering why the redhead called him closer. It wasn't common for Eijiro to talk to him and briefly wondered if it was about his Quirk.
"You… You and Mizuki are childhood friends, right?" Eijiro asked and Izuku gave the redhead a blank look. The question was unexpected. He found himself staring and panicked. Answer! Answer! He had to answer!
"Y-Yes! We've been best friends since we were little. She's really kind and strong, always helping others! She trains really hard and never backs down on anything!" Izuku said and smiled widely as he complimented the ash-blonde female.
Mi-chan, I know you really like Kirishima-kun so I hope this helps! Izuki thought, determined to help his best friend. She helped him many times in the past. It was his time to help her where he possibly could.
"Yeah, I thought so," Eijiro said and Izuku gave him a blank look. Eijiro smiled softly, a peculiar gleam passing through his eyes. He could feel a squeeze in his chest and a frown formed onto his lips until he noticed it.
"Sorry! Thanks, Midoriya! I'll see you later!" Eijiro said with a wide grin that didn't reach his eyes. He walked off, leaving Izuku baffled and confused. He needed a little time to collect his thoughts and straighten himself up.
Huh? Izuku thought as he stared at the retreating redhead. What's going on? Did I say something wrong? No, I clearly tried to make it sound that Mi-chan is amazing. Did I go a bit overboard? Did I say too little?
"Deku-kun? Are you alright?" Ochaco asked as she leaned over to gain his attention, the green haired male snapping out of his thoughts. He glanced at the brown-haired female and flushed at her close proximity.
"U-Uraraka-san?!"
"Midoriya-kun, you need to keep your immune system up and healthy! The festival is in a few days! You can't afford to get sick now!" Iida announced loudly behind him, swinging his arms robotically and Izuku laughed lightly.
His worries gone as fast as they came.
Meanwhile…
"You know, if I didn't know you it would've been hell scary to have you stalk me like that, Mei," Mizuki spoke up as she walked over towards the pink haired female who peeked around the corner with a big grin.
"Hehehe, I'm glad that you noticed me!" Mei laughed and bounced, lifting the goggles off her eyes. "I heard that the entire hero course is training hard for the festival," she stated and Mizuki nodded in reply.
"We can't have the other courses get ahead of us, now, can we? We already received a nice threat from general studies," Mizuki pointed out and Mei cocked her head to the side in confusion at the information.
"Really? Well, I prepared the best of my babies to show the support companies to get sponsors! I don't care about winning, as long as I can advertise my babies!" Mei exclaimed, squealing with excitement.
Mizuki chuckled. "I thought so. I'm not going to hold back on you and your babies, though. Oh, and also, don't go overselling your products. You should make sure that only your best ones are on the table. You know, make them come back for more?" Mizuki advised. Mei smirked, a playful gleam passing through her strange eyes.
"I'll show you the endurance of my babies! It'll help for further advertisement! I'll keep your advice close to me!" Mei stated and Mizuki snickered in amusement. She wasn't going to let any type of support items beat her. Not now, not ever.
"I'd like to see what you pull out of your goggles, Mei. Anyway, I take it you didn't stare holes through me just for that," Mizuki said, bringing the pink haired girl out of her raging thoughts and sweat dropped.
"Oh, yes! Hehe, you know how your costume was basically destroyed and everything?" Mizuki nodded slowly. "Well, I helped redesign it! You won't see it until after the festival though, but I was too excited that I had to tell you!"
Mizuki paled, fearing what the pink haired girl did to her costume. It was her pride and joy, something that she hadn't had time to redesign and add adjustments. She knew Mei was talented and creative but she wasn't 'subtle' in either those fields.
"Please tell me you didn't change the original design…"
"Oh, no! It was too detailed and fantastic! I only tweaked it a little!" Mizuki felt her mouth run dry, discomfort rocketing through her body. "Also, the other costume you wanted to make adjustments to, arrived!" Mei said and Mizuki's eyes briefly widened.
"Really? When-""Ah! I forgot about one of my babies! I left them charging! Got to go! See you at the sports festival!" Mei exclaimed and then ran off without another word, leaving Mizuki in the dust and alone with her own thoughts.
I don't think I'll ever understand that girl… Mizuki thought as she observed the trail of smoke Mei left behind. She had a feeling that Power Loader was going to scold her again, that is, if he survived the possible explosion.
Later on…
Aizawa stepped out, the final homeroom for the day ending. He was worn-out, besides his usual exhaustion. It was a long week, keeping an eye out for the students and arranging everything regarding security.
Other than that, he kept a close eye on Mizuki. She trained hard and showed promise with the new techniques she developed. However, there were no visible signs of the other Quirk, even if she trained with the other students.
Moreover, All Might had informed him that Izuku wasn't aware of the new discovery. Aizawa didn't know how exactly the male found out, but didn't bother to ask him either. It would be too much of a pain.
The idea of her competing still didn't sit right with him. He understood the Principal's point of view and unfortunately agreed with it. Yet, he felt uneasy. The chances of her using the Quirk was unknown and they knew too little to know if it activated.
He clicked his tongue and let out a sigh. It was no use in breaking his brain over it. He would merely continue to keep an eye on her. Hopefully, this sports festival was exactly what they needed to prove the villain's suspicions wrong.
Meanwhile…
Mizuki rubbed the back of her neck as she finished with the last of her notes. She let out a breath and put away her stationary. The sports festival was around the corner but the teachers weren't holding back with throwing work onto their shoulders.
At least it kept her mind busy and they had an exciting class with Midnight. Modern hero art history was definitely staying her favourite subject and since the two perverts in the class were incapacitated by her brother, made it much better.
She put away her books and caught sight of a letter she received from Aizawa. He reminded her to give the letter to her brother for the next day. Katsuki got number one during the hero exam and was due to give a speech at the beginning of the ceremony.
Mizuki turned blue beneath her eyes as she thought of her brother giving a speech. He was definitely going to piss off everyone competing. After all, he had only one goal and that was being number one and the only way he could show that he was the best was if he drove himself in a corner.
Typical boys.
Speaking of which… Mizuki glanced at the redhead who spoke to Sero, laughing freely. He had been awfully quiet during class and emerged himself in his work. A part of her was proud while the other part of her was disappointed. He didn't ask her for help.
"Mizuki-san, we're heading off. We'll see you tomorrow," Ochaco waved and Mizuki smiled, waving the brown haired female off. Iida was next to her, waving his arms robotically and made the ash blonde wonder if he would ever communicate normally.
"Bye, Mi-chan, see you tomorrow!" Izuku greeted with a big grin as he stopped next to her, Mizuki raising an eyebrow when he leaned in to her ear. "I've got your back!" He whispered to her, holding a thumbs up.
Huh?
He then moved towards the duo waiting for him at the door. Mizuki could only look at the male as he joined his friends and exited. She didn't have a clue what he was talking about. He had her back? With what? Was he talking about the sports festival? He was aware they would compete against each other, right?
"I'll see you guys tomorrow!" Eijiro's voice brought her out of her baffled reaction. He waved at Sero and Kaminari who was in his own depression, still not resuscitated after being beaten up by Katsuki. Mineta also joining the same fate.
"Hey, Red-""Sorry, Mizuki. I have to go! See you later!" Eijiro barely said before he was out by the door in a rush. There was an awkward and empty breeze that blew through the room, Mizuki staring blankly at the vacant space in the door.
What?
The twitching of her hands, eyes and forced smirked was visible as her temper flared. She bit down hard onto her teeth, a vein palpitating from her head. Some of the students paled, her threatening aura spiralling around her.
"Hey, Mizuki-Ack!" Sero was barely able to finish his sentence when her hand latched onto his head, her fingers painfully gripping. He looked at her in fear and sweat bullets as she glared at him, steam emerging from her mouth.
"What?"
"N-Nothing!" Sero squealed out and grunted as he fell onto the floor when she let go of his head. He could feel his heart beating rapidly in his throat. For a moment he was sure that she was going to kill him.
"Dumbass," Katsuki chuckled smugly. It didn't last long until Mizuki gave him a threatening gaze, causing the male to immediately shut his mouth. He swallowed thickly as a shiver run down his spine.
Mizuki was pissed.
She clicked her tongue, the effect having everyone flinch. She threw her bag over her shoulder and stormed out of the classroom without another word. The entire class was dumbstruck at what happened.
"What's got her in such a bad mood?"
Shoto eyed the girl the moment she stormed off, unfazed by the deadly aura that surrounded her. He was surprised to find that she shut up her own brother, he ash blonde exiting reluctantly with his hand palms pocketed.
"Nice, Sero. You made her angry!"
"It wasn't me!"
The moment her switch flipped was the moment Eijiro rushed out of the classroom. Strange. It never happened before. Shrugging, he put the bag on his back and headed towards the exit. It didn't matter.
The next time they faced each other, she was going to lose. He wasn't going to be caught off guard by her tricks. Not that it was of importance. His goal was to find out what Izuku's connection was with All Might.
That was all.
