Chapter 20

The day of the sports festival…

It was an exciting day all over, the press waiting in hoards at the gate as their bags were being checked. Pro Heroes from all over the country were invited, everyone having high expectation about the students. Especially the first-year students.

The students were all nervous, knowing that if they messed up this opportunity then they would mess up a possibility to receive good scout. The tension was high, the nerves shot and the expectations unrealistic.

Mizuki, however, had been in a terrible mood in the past two days prior to the festival. She was out for blood and everyone tread lightly around her. Katsuki tried to get her out of her murderous state, but with no luck and a bunch of bruises later, gave up.

He didn't know why she was in such a mood. Though, he had a feeling that it was because of Shitty Hair. It would be the only logical explanation. Especially since he hadn't sat with them at lunch which he was happy about. Mizuki, not so much.

He didn't know what she saw in him. And it made his stomach churn at the thought that his sister like someone. Mizuki never had romantic interests in the past, why now? Why him? Fine, it was better than Izuku but still. No one was good enough for his sister.

"Go get 'em, Mizuki! We'll be cheering for you the entire time!" – KawaiiRin
"Have fun and kick some ass! I need to see some action, Explodo-girl!" – BoysAreLifeAkira

Mizuki stared at the messages she received from her friends and smiled. They attached a photo where the two of them ate takoyaki, Akira wanting to look annoyed with Rin's arm slung around her shoulder.

Thanks, guys. Mizuki exhaled as she put away her phone. I don't have time for any distractions. I'm here to win and do my best. She thought and walked towards class 1A's waiting room. Katsuki went ahead of her long ago, leaving her to get her thoughts together.

"Mizuki-kun!" Iida came rushing towards her, the ash blonde lazily glancing behind her. "It's almost time for us to line up! Is everyone ready?" He asked as he came to a stop in front of her and Mizuki chuckled.

"I'm about to tell them to get their assess ready. Aizawa Sensei clearly stated that he doesn't want us to be late," Mizuki said and put a hand on his shoulder. "Don't get too worked up about the time. Rather concentrate on the festival, Four-Eyes."

"I will! Good luck to you, Mizuki-kun! May the best win!" Iida exclaimed, his arms waving robotically in front of him. Mizuki grunted and returned her attention towards the door of the waiting room, sliding it open with much force to gain everyone's attention.

"Alright, it's almost time to line up. Get your asses ready!" Mizuki yelled at them, everyone sweat dropping at her use of words. Iida gaped at the female who gave him a smirk filled with indifference about her statement.

"Midoriya," Shoto spoke up, drawing everyone's attention as he stood in front of the green haired male. He had one hand pocketed in his pants, his divided coloured eyes glaring at the freckled face boy.

"Looking at things objectively, I think I'm stronger than you." Mizuki frowned and Izuku vaguely nodded. "But… All Might has his eye on you, doesn't he?" Shoto pointed out, Mizuki's brows furrowing at the fact that he said aloud.

It was something she was suspicious of, but hadn't put a lot of thought in. She had many other things that she had to concentrate on, but always kept the interaction in the back of her head. She didn't pry because she had faith that Izuku would come clean.

"I'm not trying to pry about that, but I'm going to beat you," Shoto declared and Mizuki felt a fire start within her. This time it was her brother's temper that was starting to boil while she found herself surprisingly calm.

"Oh? Is the best in the class making declaration of war?" Kaminari asked with an amusing smirk plastered on his face. The others in the class glanced between the two males with confused expressions. Eijiro was disturbed and walked towards the duo coloured haired male with a frown.

"Hey, hey, hey! Why are you picking a sight all of the sudden? Not now, we're about to start!" Eijiro stated and put a hand on Shoto's shoulder. Bold move. The male shook off the hand, Eijiro's eyes briefly widening.

"We're not here to play at being friends. So what does it matter?" Shoto stated in a snappy tone and turned to walk away. He had stated it once before during the battle he had with Mizuki. Yet, she felt disturbed by his behaviour and more so by the look in his eyes.

"Todoroki-kun, I don't know what you're thinking when you say you'll beat me, but of course you're better than me," Izuku spoke up, the male stopping to glance back. Mizuki's frown deepened at her best friend's words.

Izu-kun…

"I think you're more capable than most people. Looking at it objectively…" Izuku said and Eijiro tried to stop the male's negative statement, only to have Izuku cut him off. "But, everyone, the students from the other courses are aiming for the top with everything they've got! I can't afford to fall behind."

Mizuki found that a smirk made its way onto her lips at the determined facial expression Izuku had on his face. He wasn't backing down and it made Shoto turn fully towards him, the atmosphere thickening.

"I'll be going for it with everything I have, too."

Mizuki, who had her arms crossed over her chest, leaned against the entrance of the door. Her smirk never left her mouth and she could feel a tinge of proudness swelling in her chest. It was as she thought. He was fighting his own battles and acting all cool about it.

Iida then yelled out to everyone that they had to go. Katsuki clicked his tongue as he walked off, his temper flaring. Mizuki had an idea why he was angry. After all, the war was declared to Izuku and not him.

"Hey, Ice Bastard," Mizuki spoke up as Shoto stepped out of the waiting room, the other students already walking down the hallway. He stopped in his tracks and looked back at her, her red eyes blazing.

"You've got quite a lot of balls acting that way right before the festival begins. What exactly is your agenda here?" Mizuki asked, her tone of voice low and her eyes not leaving his. She didn't like it. She didn't like what she was seeing.

"I don't see how this concerns you." A vein popped out of her forehead. "Are you going to fight Midoriya's battles again? It's really a bad habit. You should keep yourself out of other people's quarrels," Shoto said.

Her eyes shifted and he found himself involuntarily swallowing thickly. Mizuki smirked and relaxed her arms. "I don't have to fight Izu-kun's battles anymore. He's capable of doing that all on his own. You should be careful not to underestimate him. You're going to regret it later on," Mizuki calmly stated, Todoroki's frown deepening.

"But, you're right. I should keep my eyes on the prize and I will. I just want to do it without anything bothering me and right now, you're bothering me." Mizuki stood in front of him, her body language adding to her intimidating presence.

"I get that you're not here to make friends. You're here to win, right? Most of us are here for the same reason. There's just one big flaw in your whole arrogant attitude," Mizuki's tone darkened and her hand pointed towards his face.

"Those aren't eyes of a hero."

Shoto's eyes widened at her words, Mizuki's brows furrowing and her frown deepening. She then pocketed her hands, her gaze lightening slightly. She could see the various of emotions that flashed in his eyes and huffed.

"I'll see you on the field, Ice Bastard. Don't disappoint me," Mizuki said and walked past him without another word. She said what she wanted to say and lightened the load on her shoulders. She had one thing that was on her mind now and that was the festival.

"Hey! This year's high school rodeo of adolescence that you all love, the U.A. sports festival, is about to begin! Everybody, are you ready?! It's time for the students to enter the first-year-stage!" Present Mic announced loudly and the students came out form the tunnel soon after.

Mizuki smirked, excitement and nervousness all mixed up inside her. Katsuki was the same next to her, the twins giving each other a knowing look. The hordes of people who cheered only riled them up more.

"The U.A. Sports Festival! The huge battle where fledgling heroes sharpen their sword once a year! These are the guys, right? The miraculous new stars who overcame enemy attacks with their hearts of steel! Hero course, Class 1A, right?!" Present mic shouted over the screen.

"Th-th-there are so many people…" Izuku could feel his heart pound loudly in his chest as his nerves ran wild inside him. Mizuki chuckled at the boy's reaction and glanced around the hundreds of people.

"This is going to be thrilling. I can't wait to kick your ass in front of so many witnesses!" Mizuki gave her brother a small nudge and he smirked darkly words. His reaction was minimum and it made her chuckle. He was preparing himself for what lay ahead of him.

"Man, he's going overboard with that praise! I'm getting nervous! Aren't you, Bakugou? Mizuki?" Eijiro asked and Katsuki's grin widened. Eijiro didn't quite make eye contact with the ash blonde female and she merely inhaled deeply, her smirk still resting on her lips.

"No, I'm getting more into it," Katsuki replied as Present Mic went on over the microphone. He announced the next hero class, class 1B who came in right after they entered. After then came the general studies, support course and the business course.

Mizuki could feel the eyes of the other courses on the class and even received stares from the students from 1B. One in particular male being the one to stare directly at her. She recognized him as one of the loudmouths that came to declare war to them.

"Alright!" Midnight called out, hitting her whip to the side to gain everyone's attention. "Time for the player pledge!" She announced and Mizuki face palmed as the men in the crowd and the boys blush at her daring hero costume.

"Quiet, everyone! Representing the students is Katsuki Bakugou from Class 1A!" Midnight announced and had the entire class's eyes widen in shock. Mizuki chuckled as Katsuki walked up to the small stage.

"What? It's Kacchan?"

"Naturally, Izu-kun. Did you forget that he came in first in the entrance exam?" Mizuki pointed out, the green haired male sweating bullets. The entire class was placed in discomfort and feared what he was going to say.

There was a sigh from the female on the side. "That guy did finish first in the hero course entrance exam. In the hero course, though," she practically spat towards them with crossed arms, her eyes glaring at them.

The men from 1A paled when Mizuki scoffed, her threatening aura seeping out from her figure as she gave the female a smug smirk. "Not my fault you were useless, Bitch," she sneered, ready to pounce on the girl.

"W-Wait! M-Mi-chan! Calm down!" Izuku tried to calm his best friend down, not wanting her to go on a rampage even before the festival started. Mizuki huffed, everyone sighing in relief when she listened.

Everyone knew that she wasn't making the hatred that the other courses had on them any better. Though, they also knew that she didn't care. In that way, she was much like her brother. They were, after all, twins.

Katsuki advanced onto the steps that led towards the microphone on the small stage. Izuku and some of the students swallowed thickly as he watched it anticipation. Mizuki merely grinned, her own hands pocketed.

"I pledge… That I'll be number one."

Mizuki burst out laughing, the hordes of students booing her brother while their class turned white, they knew he was going to say something like that. There were many discouraging shouts towards the ash blonde male.

He turned around and gestured downwards with his thumb. "At least become a nice bouncy step for me to jump off of," Katsuki said, making it difficult for Mizuki to not laugh. He was pissing everyone off and looking badass while doing it.

He wasn't showing confidence, he was trying his best to give himself a clear disadvantage. He wanted to show them all that he would overcome it and become the best. It was his way of showing his strength and his growth. After all, he didn't laugh while saying it.

"Now, let's get started right away! The first game is what you'd call a qualifier! Every year, many drink their tears here!" Midnight stated, swinging her whip. "Here's the fateful first game!" A screen appeared behind her and everyone waited nervously as the screen came to a stop.

"This year, it's this! An obstacle course race! All 11 classes will participate in this race. This course will be the outer circumference of this stadium – about four kilometres!" Midnight said and Mizuki lazily raised an eyebrow.

That was it?

"Our school's selling point is freedom!" Midnight sadistically licked her lips and swung her whip down. "As long as you stay on the course it doesn't matter what you do!" She added and Mizuki grinned widely.

Izuku clenched his fists by his side and felt a hand on his shoulder. "I hope to see you by the finish line with your green electricity, Izu-kun," Mizuki told the male as she walked off. Izuku stared at the female and then nodded.

The students all went towards the entrance that led to the obstacle course, Mizuki's irritancy growing when they pushed against each other while awaiting the count down for the gate to open. It was going to be as annoying as when the alarm went off at U.A.

"MizukI!" She caught sight of a red blur until Eijiro popped up in next to her, Katsuki glaring at the male from the other side of his sister. "U-uh, I just wanted to say good luck out there! You too, Bakugou!" He said and Mizuki grunted with a smirk.

"You too, Red. Don't fall too far behind," she challenged him, her eyes gleaming brightly. She felt a squeeze in her chest at his wide and innocent grin. She hadn't had it directed towards her in a while and it made her frown slightly.

Get a grip, MizukI!

"Start!" Midnight called and it was instant that Mizuki and her brother let out explosions, the twins propelling through the air and over the students. They glared at each other, pushing themselves further and out into the obstacle course.

There was a sudden cold breeze that came from below, Shoto in front of them as he froze the ground, the students stuck in the ice. He didn't dare to lose a moment of time to look completely overpowering. Class 1A though, saw it coming.

"Bring it on!" Mizuki called and landed onto the ice, Katsuki landing in front of her and running off. She was soon to follow, the ice no match for the rise in temperature in her boots. She easily found her footing, Momo coming behind her.

"I won't let you get away so easily! You half-and-half bastard!" Katsuki exploded towards him and Mizuki chuckled. A purple blur came passed her and she blinked in surprised when she saw Mineta jumping on his purple balls, catching up easily with Shoto.

"I've outwitted you, Todoroki! How pathetic! Take this! My special attack!" Mineta was about to yelled out his attack, his purple ball in his arm until he made painful contact with a piece of metal. He was sent flying back.

Mizuki came to a brief stop when she saw the large zero robots from the entrance exams. They were exactly the same as the one she melted through when she overheated her legs. This time, however, she couldn't do it again.

"The first obstacles have arrived! Starting with the first barrier! Robo Inferno!" Present Mic's voice came over the speakers and Mizuki chuckled. His loud voice was never going to rest, was it? Poor Aizawa that was forced to sit beside him.

"So, this is what they used in the general entrance exam? I wonder where they got the money for it," Momo asked and Mizuki sweat dropped. That was what she was thinking at this stage? Recommended students sure were strange.

There was a cold breeze the prickled her skin, her eyes snapping towards Shoto. He took a single step and threw his left arm in the air, causing ice to freeze three of the faux villains like it was absolutely nothing.

Well, he did freeze the building in an instant when we fought. Though, I have an idea that the Ice Bastard had something up his sleeve. Mizuki thought as she started to advance, not waiting a single moment any longer.

"I wouldn't if I were you. I froze them when they were unbalanced and it'll make them fall over," Shoto said and Mizuki's eyes briefly widened. She cursed at him and let out a large explosion as the robot came falling down on her.

Tetsutetsu stopped to gape as the flying female, the smirk on her lips confident and her crimson eyes shing bright. He could feel his face flushing by watching her and felt his heart squeeze tightly. He was so distracted that he barely noticed his classmates calling out to him and the robot falling on top of him.

"Out of the way!" Eijiro called before the robot landed on top of him. Mizuki's heart would've stopped if she hadn't seen him harden beforehand. He was competing and saving simultaneously. As expected from him.

"Todoroki from Class 1A! he attacked and defended in one hit! How elegant! Amazing! He's the first one through! It's you know, practically unfair! As expected of someone who got in through recommendations!" Present Mic shouted, Aizawa countering his statement in a monotone.

She set her eyes on Shoto and grinned, explosions erupted from her body as she aimed for the male. Katsuki was soon to follow her, crying out as he let his explosions push him further. A robot appeared on each side of the twins, their red eyes narrowing.

"OUT OF MY WAY!"

Mizuki kicked the robot, a large explosion erupting from her legs while Katsuki slammed his hand palm into the other robot, letting loose his own large explosion. No robot was going to stop them from advancing.

"Whoa! The Bakugou twins easily went over the robot and then easily used their Quirks to get rid of any other robots! Amazing! What's with those two?!" Present Mic shouted, the crowd going wild and Aizawa's eyes briefly narrowing.

"RWAH! Like I'd die!" Eijiro's voice came in front behind Mizuki and despite not looking back, she could already see him bursting through the robot. "That bastard, Todoroki! He timed it on purpose so it'd be right when they fell. If it hadn't been me, someone would've died!"

"Eijiro Kirishima from Class 1A! Quirk: Hardening! His body can get super hard! He can become the strongest spear or the strongest shield!" Present Mic announced and was about to add something but another male popped out from underneath a robot.

"That class A is really filled with bastards! If it hadn't been me, someone would've died!"

"Tetsutetsu from Class B was also underneath! Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu! Quirk: Steel! His body can get super hard! He can become the strongest spear or the strongest shield!" Present mic said and Mizuki raised a brief eyebrow. Someone had a similar Quirk.

Mizuki's eyes set onto the second obstacles that laid ahead of her and her brother. Shoto was already far ahead, his quick and witty moves helping him across the Fall. They could either crawl on rope or fall.

"Then I guess I'll go over it!" Mizuki grinned and rose her body temperature, Katsuki flying passed her without hesitation. She was about to follow him but heard a strange ruffling from behind her, Mineta emerging out of nowhere.

"I don't let you escape, Mizuki!"

Mizuki let out a large explosion from her legs and had the male blown away, right down the fall with a cry. Serves him right. Mizuki thought as she jumped towards each piece of the ground that stuck out for them.

She was painfully aware that if she pushed her explosions too much, she would overheat her body. It was only the first event and she had to take things easy. Yet, she found jumping from one platform to another with her explosions from her feet was more fun that she imagined.

"A lot of different people are working hard for their chance, huh, Eraser Head?"

"What are you idiots stopping for?" Aizawa snapped over the microphone and Mizuki chuckled. She could practically see the pissed off look on her teacher's face. He was going to make her day even more interesting with his commentary.

"And now, the leader of the pack is easily getting through first!" Present Mic stated loudly one again, Mizuki catching sight of her brother still in the air, flying straight towards Shoto. He scowled at the male and she could feel the anger that burst from him.

Mizuki managed to finish the second obstacle course and was about to grin in victory before a wave of nausea unexpectedly washed over her. She gritted her teeth as she forced herself forward, not prepared to get behind.

Damn it! Why now of all times? I thought it was gone since it was better throughout the week? Mizuki cursed and wanted to yell out in frustration when the vertigo joined in. She dug her heels into the ground and inhaled deeply.

Limitless, Mizuki! Remember, limitless! Mizuki shouted in her mind and then ran forward. She used explosions on the outside of her feet and arms to keep her centre of gravity intact, pushing through the disorientation.

"And now, we've quickly arrived at the final barrier! The reality here is that it's a minefield! It's set up so that you can tell where the mines are if you look carefully! So, you have to exploit your eyes and legs!" Present Mic announced and Mizuki cursed when she arrived at the minefield.

"By the way, these landmines are for games, so they're not that powerful, but they're loud and flashy enough to make you wet your pants!" Present Mic added and Mizuki sweat dropped at his statement.

Damn it. I won't be able to fly across so easily if I can get rid of my dizziness and it's going to be a pain to run and look at my feet the entire time. Mizuki thought and swallowed back another wave of nausea.

"This doesn't affect me!" Katsuki burst forth and Mizuki's eyes widened when she saw her brother push past Shoto. "Bastard, don't declare war to the wrong person!" He snarled and went on the attack against Shoto.

Mizuki could feel her mind clear up, her brother's heightened senses making her disorientation go away. She took the chance where the two males fought against each other on the landmines and heated up her body temperature.

She felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up from a strange static electricity as she blasted off, her red eyes glancing back at Izuku. He was running in his Quirk activated state with a piece of green metal in his arm.

Is that…? Did Izu-kun carry a piece of the faux villains with him all the way here while being in that state? No, he's not able to hold it the entire time and yet, he's here before the others who are just arriving. Mizuki thought and saw him start to dig up the minefield.

I don't know what he's planning, but I'm not staying to find out! Mizuki thought and propelled herself further towards where the two males were fighting against each other. Their speed was slower, making her chuckle.

Bunch of idiot-BOOM!

Mizuki, Katsuki and Shoto's attention was drawn towards the large explosion that erupted form the back. Her eyes widened when she saw Izuku ride the piece of metal all the way from the explosion, his teeth gritted.

"Class A's Midoriya is in hot pursuit with that blast! He went straight past Mizuki and even took the lead!" Present Mic exclaimed in amazement and made the twins and Shoto charge straight towards the green haired male.

"Deku! Don't go ahead of me!" Katsuki cried as he propelled himself with his explosions towards Izuku. Mizuki doing the same while Shoto froze over the field where he ran, giving those behind him a path. Though, it didn't matter since he needed to win.

"The two formerly in the lead have stopped trying to slow each other down and are chasing Midoriya! Now that they have a common enemy, they've stopped fighting! The fight's not over yet, though!" Present Mic stated and Mizuki's brows furrowed.

Izuku was losing speed and heading straight towards the ground. She could see the brief panic on his eyes as Katsuki and Shoto appeared beside him. Her eyes widened when she saw him step onto their shoulders and slam the piece of metal onto the ground.

Another large explosion erupted and shot back the duo, Mizuki also sent backwards from the force. He used them as landing boards and caused another large scale explosions to keep everyone away so he can take the lead. That little shit! She thought as she twirled in the air.

"It's not over yet!"

It was the last stretch for trio as they tried their best to catch up to Izuku, everyone else left behind them. Present Mic was exclaiming and yelling as the tension rose, wondering what Aizawa taught his class. However, it wasn't him riling up the students, each one did it in their own way.

"U.A. Sports festival, first-year stage! Who could've predicted the developments at the beginning? Right now, the first person back in the stadium is that man… Izuku Midoriya 's made a huge splash!" Present Mic declared.

Right after him came Shoto and Katsuki, followed by Mizuki, everyone out of breath. Katsuki was fuming and clicking his tongue angrily and Shoto frowned. Mizuki merely laughed breathlessly, adrenaline pumping through her veins.

Now that was exciting! She thought and ran a hand through her hair. She looked over towards Izuku who glanced around in search for someone and raised an eyebrow. He finally stopped and bit his bottom lip as tears came to his eyes.

Mizuki followed his eyes, his gaze leading her straight towards where the teachers of the hero course sat. Her eyes widened and she felt shock ripple through her body. She had questions forming in her mind and desperately tried to find the answers.

She couldn't believe what she was seeing! Was she not seeing things? She wasn't, right? In the front row, on the right-hand side sat a familiar blonde, scruffy and anorexic male clapping his hands proudly.

Toshinori-san?!
