Her consciousness was drifting in and out. There was the repetitive sound of multiple heart monitors, and a constant cacophony of voices spouting medical jargon that told her she was in a hospital of some kind. She could barely process what was being said, but she could discern the urgency in the voices speaking around her.
"...found the ship that crashed on the outskirts of San Diego…"
She had to force her eyes to open, one shaking hand pulling up her lid.
"...somehow appeared during the geomagnetic storm that took place above the city's atmosphere..."
She was being moved in a gurney down a corridor. She noted the sterile appearance of said corridor, as well as the equally spartan rooms she passed. There was a small amount of alarm, seeing the creatures that stood around her. They were dressed in normal medical scrubs and coats. However, in terms of height they resembled the Bigfeet that resided in the forests of the hill, only with much less hair.
One guy was following alongside the gurney, talking on a cell phone. His voice was already becoming familiar to her. "...she was inside the ship, assuming she's a 'she'. Never seen a duck in a pilot's uniform before..."
Alarming as the sight of the creatures was, she let it slide. She was too tired and disoriented to be fearful.
"..she lost a pint of blood and her leg was badly mangled. They're going to have to amputate it…"
There were guards, too. Guards that wore various camoflouge uniforms and carried handguns, which her mind equated to the military. This definitely wasn't a regular hospital.
Before she realized it, she was in a stationary bed. One of the faux bigfeet was on her left. She registered that the bigfoot, presumably a doctor, was speaking to her.
"...you're going to be okay…you'll be put onto a regular dose of anesthetic until we're..."
Della Duck's gaze moved up to a pair of calm, dark eyes before she passed out again.
I've wanted to write this story for a while, but I kept hitting blocks because I was never exactly sure of where to start. I'm looking forward to getting more work involved with it and updates, while they won't happen regularly, are expected as soon as I start writing the drafts. Multiple POV's will be worked in as well. So, please provide feedback and comment if you like the story, or even if you merely wish to provide some constructive criticism. Hope you enjoy it!
