Hello all this may be a reach but I have a question. For those of you who read this story and write themselves. What applications do you use? I'd assume most just use the integrated document maker on the website with something like grammarly. I do however want to know for those who use external sources like Microsoft Word or fucking notepad or something. Which do you use and what benefits have you found by switching over? Thanks for those who decided to stay with my story I hope this chapter keeps you engaged.

Michael was taking stock on what he had as well as testing just what exactly he had going for him. He had the clothes on his back but nothing else not even his phone, not that it would help him even.

'No weapons, no food, and no money. What about my skills?'

Michael closed his eyes and calmed his mind. He went through the basic description of his race and levels and checked his stats and abilities.

Martial Affinity

Michael didn't understand most of what he read. His abilities were simple and rather self-explanatory but his stats were just strange. He didn't know exactly how good or bad they really were, he didn't have a benchmark to go off of so the numbers didn't mean much. However he was interested in his talent: Martial Affinity. A boost for Martial Arts? He assumed it would help him level his martial abilities and job classes, he'd have to test that theory at a later time. All he knew was for now was that his main objective was to get settled. A source of income and a supply of food and water. Michael wanted to see where he was physically so he decided to do some random tests. He did pushups, tested his max jump height, threw rocks as far as he could, and shadowboxed.

It was clear he was stronger and faster than he was before coming here. He believed he could become a copper class adventurer but against an armed human or anything more dangerous he had little chance at survival.

"Here we fucking go." Michael sighed and left the alleyway. Michael began roaming the streets taking in his surroundings, he thought about asking around where the Adventurer's guild was, but he received stares and snark comments from the populace and decided it might not be a good idea.

"What is that foreigner doing here?" Michael overheard one person say. Were all of the people here discriminatory towards foreigners? That would complicate many things.

"Guess I'll have to find this on my own." Michael continued to roam the city, he couldn't read any of the signs around businesses so he used the imagery to help him. He saw one of drink, another a collection of random trinkets and more. He was however horrified at some of the sheer human rights violations that existed. Michael knew that in a setting like this basic human rights and dignity weren't wildly popular concepts, some might say radical even. It did make him angry but there wasn't much he could do. He had no money, no food, no allies, and frankly he didn't want to know the consequences of fighting some man over his slave. So he begrudgingly moved on. Michael finally found a sign he thought was it. Cross swords and a shield outside of a large building. He could hear a lot of commotion going on inside, so he gathered his confidence calmed himself and walked inside.

Michael walked in and saw adventurers of various ranks, a billboard with papers, and a receptionist of some sort behind a large desk with a line.

'This is the place.' He slowly made his way towards the table, unlike outside the building no one here even seemed to acknowledge him or care about his existance which was good. The adventurers here all seemed fairly seasoned. He didn't remember all of the badges much less in order but he saw ones that seemed to be made of silver iron or gold. Very few copper ranks and he hadn't seen anyone unranked like him.

When he made it to the end of the line he looked around to see if their were any characters he could recognize but he saw no one. The line wasn't moving very fast so Michael was left to his thoughts and that's when the reality of how impossible of a task this was hit him.

'How would I get past all of his subordinates?' Michael had no way of getting past the Inhabitants of Ainz Ooal Gown. Maybe and it was a strong maybe he could beat one of the maids but anyone beyond that would overpower him before he even approached The Undead King. He had no idea how much time he had before Ainz would appear, to add to that Humans seemed to level extremely slowly in The New World. Unless Michael could figure out exactly how this happened he'd be going nowhere fast. Michael snapped out of his head to see he was nearing the front and moments later he was front and center.

"Good Afternoon, young man. How can I help you?" The woman was nice and cheery when she greeted Michael

"Hello. I'd like to register as an adventurer." Michael asked.

"Fantastic. I'll just need you to answer some questions and fill out some forms." The woman replied with seemingly even more energy than before.

The process wasn't very lengthy. The questions were simple things such as name, age, class, etc. One question that was asked though was where he lived. He didn't even know how the system of addresses worked here, Michael tried to say he was from a small village but when asked for the name of said village he had to try and remember the name of something extremely well.

'What was it called?' Michael beat himself up trying to remember any small village or town and then one popped.

"Forgive me I only recently was allowed to live there. I believe it was Cane village?"

'Please believe me.' Michael pleaded in his head.

"Oh Carne Village, I've heard things have been hard there." The woman replied sounding full of pity for the village.

'Thank fuck she bought it.' Michael was relieved that his lie was believable.

"I don't know much but I'm eager to help while I can."

A few more formalities were covered and Michael was told to standby in wait for his request to be approved.

"How long does that usually take ma'am?" Michael asked a bit concerned

"Don't worry, We haven't had many requests put in so just a few hours you're welcome to stay and wait.

"Alright, thank you very much." Michael stepped back from the desk and looked for an unoccupied area to sit, and when he did he sat and waited.

After his registration Michael left the building with a copper badge and a very low level contract, a pest extermination. A nearby village had issues with a new collection of young goblins stealing food, or harassing the villagers. The village claimed they weren't exceptionally dangerous but were growing increasingly annoyed by them. The contract in question had been left up for quite some time, apparently no one had taken it due to the low bounty a measly 5 bronze pieces and some supplies. Michael didn't care about the money though this was a benchmark for him to see what future contracts he could apply for. Luckily for Michael the contract had a map on the back. Michael didn't know how far he'd have to walk to arrive at the village in question but he needed the experience so he set off and left the town.

Michael followed the map, the main roads seemed well populated, but when he eventually had to break off onto a dirt road the surroundings were just open plains and he didn't like it. Being out in the open made Michael extremely paranoid. If he were attacked by a mage or some kind of archer he'd have no cover. He felt exposed so he kept his head on a swivel. In the distance Michael saw small buildings and made his way there, as he approached he saw a group of what he thought was children fleeing some grown men.

'Uh oh.' Michael quickened his pace and the closer he got he saw that they weren't children but were rather goblins being chased by the villagers

'Well, looks like I'll get to do my tests a bit early. Michael went into a full sprint towards the group of goblins. When the goblins had seen Michael cutting them off they attempted to run off they split up. Two armed with clubs went left while one armed with a knife went right. Michael decided that the single one armed with a knife was the best target. Even though it had a better weapon the idea of being double teamed was a worse fate. The goblin's size didn't help his speed and Michael closed the distance very quickly. He tackled the goblin to the ground. The goblins was crafty and freed his arm holding the knife, it slashed and Michael couldn't avoid it. Michael received a cut on his arm.

"Fuck!" The goblin slashed again cutting him on his forearm this time. Michael got off of the goblin who no longer attempted to run. It stood there letting out a terrifying shriek, and charged Michael. The pain was distracting it wasn't like the pain of a fight in the cage but Michael was able to tolerate it for the time being. Michael front kicked the goblin in the chest pushing it away from him. It didn't let up and charged again. Michael did well to maintain his distance throwing push kicks, but the goblin had countered thrusting his knife into Michael's foot. It grabbed onto his leg and stabbed Michael several times in the torso. He cried out in pain but retaliated himself. Michael threw two wide powerful hooks: left, and right into the Goblin's jaw causing it to stumble. The goblin still had the knife so he forced the goblin to the ground and pinned the arm still holding the knife down. He threw powerful punches, elbows, and knees back to back incapacitating the goblin.

"Agh! Motherfucker!" Michael took the knife and was going to stand up but he couldn't put any weight on his leg from the wound, and fell back to the floor. Moments later the adrenaline rush that had dulled his pain had worn off and he really began to feel just how much being cut and stabbed hurt. He didn't scream but he was gasping and breathing heavily.

"There! He-" Michael heard a voice but he was going internal and couldn't make out what was said. He was staring into the sky and saw 3 silhouettes standing over him. A combination of fear, pain, and some major blood loss caused Michael to go into shock and eventually pass out.

Michael had woken up inside of a house and was laying down in a bed. He tried to sit up and groaned.

"Hey hey hey don't move so fast." Michael heard a voice say. A woman ran over and stopped him laying him back down.

"You should stay down, your wounds healed fast but it seemed to drain all of your energy."

'Wounds? Oh yeah.' Michael turned to look at his arm he saw he was bandaged up

"Where am I?" Michael asked looking around the room.

"This is Carne Village, although I assume you already knew that. Forgive me but I saw you had the contract we posted on your person. Honestly, what were you thinking? You would've died if you fought them alone."

"Yeah, I guess I overestimated myself. Thank you for the aid." The woman shook her head and left the room. Michael closed his eyes and cleared his mind.

Way Of The Long Death

Michael had noticed quite a few differences after his encounter with the Goblin. A few of stats increased and he had a few unlocks.

'Ki, Passive Recovery. Way of the long death?' Michael was confused on what way of the long death meant but he wouldn't get any answers for now. The woman returned with a plate full of food.

"You should eat." She laid the plate down and Michael sat up to see some kind of potato or radish cut up with various herbs, a side of mixed berries, bread, and a cup of water.

Michael wasn't hesitant to eat whatsoever, he was hungry and he wasn't going to say no to someone who nursed him back to health.

"You healed surprisingly quickly but it seemed to sap your energy. Do you have some kind of Affinity for restoration magic?"

"I uh never thought much on it. I just seemed to heal quickly since I was a kid." He didn't really know how to answer in a way that made sense but if he kept it vague he wouldn't have to think hard on it.

"Oh, well you're lucky. Your deeper wounds had already healed by the time you had arrived but I was told you had lost a lot of blood. Where are you from?"

'Fuck.'

"I don't actually have a home. I just kind of travel from place to place."

'Nomad Adventurer more like Wandering Beggar'

"Does that mean you don't have a family either?"

"No, Been on my own for quite a while."

'Bullshit.' Michael lied like snake but what else was he to do? He was thrown here against his will with nothing.

"Well, You heal faster than anyone I've ever met, but you're still missing a lot of blood. The average man would take a few months to recover fully without potions or magic of which I have neither, I assume you will not take as much time however. I'd have hoped to inform your family so that they may take you but since you have none."

The woman was silent for some time. With the circumstances Michael couldn't help but feel like a burden to her. Here someone saved his life, tended to his wounds, and fed him.

"I'll allow you to stay here until you recover but I expect you to help around when you gain your strength."

"Absolutely." Michael bowed his head before continuing.

"I am in your debt." It was the least he could do for the time being and she was right he did feel weak. The woman took the plate and drink that he had eaten clean and headed for the door.

"May I ask who you are?" Michael called out to her.

"Maria, Maria Ross."

"Michael. I am Michael Woods."

That's a good stopping point. So now we see just how weak Michael really is. I wonder how things would've gone if he fought all 3 goblins by himself? Or if he'll ever find out what his new abilities and things are. Oh well I guess we'll find out when he does. I don't have much to say, if you're a new reader I guess the only thing I can ask would be to give my story a chance, If you're one of like the 5 people who gave this a chance and followed what do you think? Feedback is really the only way for me to gauge my story telling. I know I haven't put up much content so maybe there isn't enough to criticize yet, but if you do see something don't hesitate to rip into my story, writing style, grammar, or offer recommendations. If you want to make it anonymous my DM'S are open ;).

Love ya peeps. See ya next time.
