Hello You sexy readers. I don't have much to say in the intro (You never do) but for those who've stuck around thanks for joining me and sticking around. For those who've just joined welcome and pull up a chair. For those who move on uninterested. May the Gods bless your travels.
COMMENCE THE ROCK!
Michael stayed at the village for quite some time. After about 3 days he had enough strength to sit up and move around but walking was out of the question. He helped however he could though. In his bed he helped cut ingredients for cooking, sew clothing, and other manual tasks. A week later he could walk with a walking stick and would watch over children and animals along with the previous work. It was the first time Michael had left the home and to say he remembered Carne village would be a lie. Everything was far more underdeveloped than he remembered but he had a job to do so he didn't think much of it. After about the 3rd week he was nearly fully healed. He could walk and run albeit with a bit of a limp but he grew tired very quickly. On the bright side however his wounds were nearly perfectly healed.
'This healing comes in handy but fuck it's draining.' Michael thought to himself whilst laying in bed. Maria had entered with another plate of food and drink for Michael. Michael had grown quite close to the woman at least he thought so. Michael understandably had many questions and Maria had answers for most but with his new found free time the whole situation was strange to him. Michael never remembered a goblin attack on Carne Village, the buildings weren't as developed and at one point asked for the date but since he had no reference it didn't help him at all. He needed to find out what had happened so far in the world but he couldn't think of a way to do so without arousing suspicion. He could ask if they had met Ainz but if he did when he eventually did show up Michael might be hunted by him for knowing of his presence prior. It took some time but Michael finally had a question.
"May I ask something?"
"When have you ever not asked me something?" She laughed and took a seat
"Have there been any other attacks on the village? Before or after the goblins that is." Michael knew of a single defining event that was simultaneous with Ainz's arrival.
"Attacks? No, troublemakers from time to time but nothing more. Did you plan on almost dying once again?"
"Maybe, I do like it here." Michael faked a laugh but this simple piece of evidence cemented it. Ainz hadn't yet arrived and neither the Slane Theocracies attack on the village. Michael was relieved that Ainz was not yet here, it didn't help him sleep though and that night he was wide awake.
"You've made good progress Michael. Much better than those before you." The fox had taken form in front of Michael.
"Well that's a fine reunion isn't it. Well here's mine to you. Fuck. Off." Michael whispered but his voice was stern
"You aren't the first to hate my presence, but the first so strongly. I've enjoyed your adventure so far. You've taken quite the calculated approach to this. You even took measures to get a lay of the land. Finding out when you've arrived, not something those before had done."
"You done with your praises, because I've been crippled for 3 weeks after having almost died. All for your sick little fucking game. So do both of us a favor and go fuck yourself."
"I'll have to deny your requests but I'll leave you with words of encouragement. Good Luck." The fox burst into a small flame and the ashes blew away into seemingly nothing.
"Shitty fucking encouragment." Michael grumbled and forced himself to finally fall asleep.
The days continued on and after a month Michael regained full health. The New World took a bit more of a realistic approach to recovery from wounds. Getting injured would have severe consequences on his progress, caution would be necessary for future engagements. Now that Michael was fully healed he still held up his end of the agreement with Maria. He continued to help with cooking, cleaning, tending to animals, however Michael was also taught various skills to offer more help around. He was taught farming techniques, masonry, woodwork, etc. He wasn't a quick study it took him quite some time to understand what he was told but he was eager to learn and slowly he did. He did end up achieving the Farmer job class but it didn't help him in terms of abilities they did develop however what we refer to today as Farmer Strength. Farm work was quite demanding on the body and he was constantly carrying heavy objects long distances this made Michael much stronger than he was before. The other villagers were happy to have Michael around, he worked hard and was always eager to help. Anyone could see he had already payed off his debt but he continued to stay. Months had gone by and Michael had become a beloved individual of the community and one day was told to meet the village chief.
Several men accompanied Michael as he was directed to a slightly larger home than the others, It stood atop a hill with oversight of the village. Upon entering Michael saw a very old man sitting with a younger gentlemen standing beside him behind a desk.
"We've brought chief." One of the men who escorted him spoke up.
"Ah yes, it is a pleasure. Please, sit." The old man waved for Michael to take a seat, and Michael sat across from the two. On the table was a teapot with steam still radiating out from the spout and a small pot.
"May I interest you in a cup of tea?" The younger man asked
"Yes, please." The younger man had poured the contents into 2 cups one for the chief and one for Michael. The young man then opened the pot and inside was honey, he took a spoonful and mixed it into both cups.
"The tea had a sweet aroma with some flowery hints. He had tea beforehand but it was the typical wholesale packaged tea found in large stores. This was something completely different. Michael took a sip and was pleasantly surprised by the taste, it was rich and creamy sweet with a hint of a fruity taste. The old man took a sip himself before speaking.
"I am Tobias Carne. My father Thomas Carne founded this village 90 years ago and I inherited the title of chief. This is my son Truman Carne."
"A pleasure to meet you." Michael responded
"It seems you've made quite the impact on our little village. I've heard time and time again about your willingness to help and I would like to let you know that I appreciate all that you have been doing. I've heard that you are a drifter and with no family I know things have probably been difficult for you." Tobias continued sipping his tea when he finished
"Oh, well I made do with what I had." Michael responded, he ended with a bit of a nervous laugh.
"Well, if it's all the same to you. I would like to offer an escape from your experiences. Would you like to stay here in the village with us?" Tobias put his cup down and stared directly at Michael.
Michael was speechless. He hadn't expected the village chief of all people to want him to become a member of the village.
"I'm flattered but I can't continue to leech off of ." Tobias began to chuckle.
"You really don't know anything. She brought up the topic to me." Tobias said ammused
"Really?"
"Yes, other villagers supported the idea, many here have grown quite fond of you but she in particular was the original one who asked that I consider the offer."
Michael sat in disbelief. Here he thought he was a burden to Maria when in reality she and the other villagers wanted him to stay.
"I will not force you into anything but we would all be happy to have you stay here with us."
"Well, I can't say no to a home, but may I ask you something chief?"
"Speak your mind."
"Can you teach me how you made this tea?"
The chief laughed before answering
"I believe we are going to get along just fine."
Michael continued to help with work around the village as time went on he largely had two tasks. Construction, and hunting. During hunts Michael was taught how to survive and became very close with the villagers. Over the course of a year Michael lost sight of his old life and accepted his new circumstances. He felt as if he had a new family, people who cared for him to a degree unlike before. They held parties, told stories, burdened each other's struggles and loss of loved ones. These people took him an outsider and accepted him into their family. Michael had even developed a romantic relationship with Maria however one night whilst stretching Michael was alone outside and was reminded why he was brought here.
A creature had appeared in front of Michael while stretching, he didn't recognize them at first but it hit moments later. It was the fox.
"You intrigue me Michael. Not a single one before you put the mission you were assigned to the sideline and instead focused on just living comfortably."
Michael could've responded angrily but with the large amounts of time that had gone by Michael had become more relaxed and accepting of his circumstances.
"Well, I have no reason to fight him. If I remember correctly he doesn't attack the village."
"He may pose no threat here but what of all the other innocent that will have their lives destroyed by his actions? Do you mean to leave them to suffer?"
"Since when did you care about the well-being of others? You sent me here against my will and because I refuse to fight you throw a temper tantrum?"
"I sent you here for a purpose, you were to fight Ainz not settle in a local community."
"Well I prefer a life of peace and comfort. I am well-aware he causes suffering but if I fight him I will only be committing suicide. I have no chance at defeating him or any of his subordinates so why try? The cards were stacked against me from the start and you of all people should've known that."
"So this is your farewell. Making your life that of a simple farmer. Have you abondoned a life of potential glory and triumph?"
"Life will continue no matter my choices. So I will make the most of my circumstances."
"Well, I am not going to accept your new way of living."
Michael saw his vision distort, a hologram like image of the entire village was in front of him. The buildings were burning he heard screams and saw several dead bodies littering the pathways, there was chaos and destruction everywhere.
"W-What is this?"
"This is your ultimatum Michael. Either abandon this path and continue my mission, or watch as I destroy everything you care about." Michael couldn't move he couldn't speak or even think the only thing surging in his mind was the horror of the images before him. What felt like an eternity ended when Michael snapped out of his self induced trance.
"Alright, Fine! Just. Just stop." Michael was defeated. He finally found a place where he belonged but it was forcibly being taken from him. The hologram disappeared.
"Good boy. I expect great things Michael don't disappoint me." The fox finished sounding cheery before disappearing.
Michael was broken but it didn't last long. His feelings of sorrow were replaced by a far more dynamic emotion. He was angry, very angry. So he made a promise to himself.
'You motherfucker. Wasn't taking me from my home enough? I swear no matter fucking what. I'm gonna kill that damn fox.' Michael closed his eyes and balled his fists.

Way Of The Long Death
Well that was quite eventful. I never thought Michael would say he would swear to kill someone, and to change his character description no less. To say his heart shrank 3 sizes that day would be an understatement. I prefer it imploding and forming a dense mass of unrelenting anger. So what happens now? What will Michael do? How will he act? How will others see him? What is that jumbled mess in his abilities? Find out next time cause I'm signing off.
