Percy whistled as they moved- it wasn't the whistle she used to summon Blackjack, it was a lower whistle- though few people could tell the difference, and as she and Annabeth ran she heard a loud, "Arooof!" and then Mrs O'Leary was in front of them and Percy released Annabeth's hand, launching herself onto her Hellhounds back, narrowly dodging the Hellhounds attempt to kiss her.

"Annabeth, use your cap, look for weak links in it's armor- and once Clarisse gets here make sure she knows it has to be a child of Ares!"

"Got it!" and Percy was taking off, clinging to Mrs O'Leary's back as they charged the monster. The drakon was three stories above them, slithering sideways along the building as it sized up their forces. Wherever it looked, centaurs froze in fear.

From the north, the enemy army crashed into the Party Ponies, and the lines broke. The drakon lashed out, swallowing three Californian centaurs in one gulp before Percy could even get close.

Mrs. O'Leary launched herself through the air—a deadly black shadow with teeth and claws. Normally, a pouncing hellhound is a terrifying sight, but next to the drakon, Mrs. O'Leary looked like a child's night-night doll.

Her claws raked harmlessly off the drakon's scales. She bit the monster's throat but couldn't make a dent. Her weight, however, was enough to knock the drakon off the side of the building. It flailed awkwardly and crashed to the sidewalk, Hellhound and serpent twisting and thrashing. The Drakon tried to bite Mrs. O'Leary, but she was too close to the serpent's mouth. Poison spewed everywhere, melting centaurs into dust along with quite a few monsters, but Mrs. O'Leary weaved around the serpent's head, scratching and biting.

Percy moved quickly, darting in and plunging Riptide into the monsters eye- the spotlight went dart and the Drakon hissed and reared back to strike.

Percy rolled aside just in time and she blinked rapidly when it bit a swimming-pool-size chunk out of the pavement. It turned toward her with its good eye, and she focused on its teeth so she wouldn't get paralyzed. Mrs. O'Leary did her best to cause a distraction. She leaped onto the serpent's head and scratched and growled like a really angry black wig.

The rest of the battle wasn't going well. The centaurs had panicked under the onslaught of giants and demons. An occasional orange camp T-shirt appeared in the sea of fighting, but quickly disappeared. Arrows screamed. Fire exploded in waves across both armies, but the action was moving across the street to the entrance of the Empire State Building. We were losing ground.

Suddenly Annabeth materialized on the drakon's back. Her invisibility cap rolled off her head as she drove her bronze knife between a chink in the serpent's scales.

The drakon roared. It coiled around, knocking Annabeth off its back.

Percy was moving before she even knew what she was doing, lunging forward and catching her before she hit the ground, rolling them both out of the way as the serpent rolled, crushing a lamppost right where they'd landed.

"Thanks!"

"Be careful Wise girl-"

"This coming from Miss I'm gonna charge a fucking Drakon I physically can't beat- Duck!" Annabeth tackled Percy as the Drakon's teeth snapped above her head. Mrs. O'Leary body slammed the Drakon's face to draw it's attention as the two girls rolled oit of the way, and Percy cursed as she scrambled to her feet.

"Where is Clarisse? Where's her siblings?"

"Coming!" that call came from Thalia, who sprinted towards them from across the battlefield, a terrified look on her face, "We called her- Percy she was
guarding the Infirmary, they were finishing up there. They'll be here as fast as they can."

"Shit- we have to hold it off until she gets here?" She demanded, terror flooding through her.
They'd never do it-"

"Not a problem!" and Percy's heart leapt because the call came from above them, and as if a button had been flicked Festus was suddenly flying through the air above their heads with Leo on his back, and the dragon smashed into the Drakon, Leo on his back. Percy wasn't sure how Leo had done it but he'd managed to fix up Festus' wing, at least temporarily.

Percy felt a mix of relief and terror at the sight- if anything could hold the Drakon off for long enough it was Leo- but that meant her baby brother was getting up close and personal with a freaking Drakon.

But there was no choice- and Percy gritted her teeth, spotting Drew across the battlefield. "Hey! Drew!"

"What's up Princess? I'm kinda busy!" Drew called out quickly.

"Call Lady and go and get Clarisse!" Percy ordered, "I'm needed here but we need Clarisse-"

"Got it!" Drew whistled, loud and clear- and a moment later Lady was swooping through the skies, dodging enemy arrows and Drew gracefully vaulted onto the Pegasi's back, soaring away quickly- and Percy and Annabeth focused on fighting off their enemy, slicing through any monsters that dared to get close- which truthfully wasn't many, the two girls had a wide circle around them. They had a reputation that they'd earned through years of hard quests and insane adventures.

And all the while Percy kept an eye on Leo and the Drakon- she could see her baby brother, a small form on the back of the huge metallic dragon, which was clawing at the Drakon, claws scraping at the armored scales as the Drakon tried to bite into the celestial bronze in response.

After what felt like a lifetime Percy saw Lady flying back towards them, two figures on her back now.

And then Percy saw an arrow flying towards them and she screamed a warning, helpless to to anything- and the bigger figure was leaning forward on Lady's back, urging the Pegasus towards the Drakon, too distracted to hear Percy's screamed warning- but the smaller figure heard and Percy screamed as Drew shoved Clarisse hard, forcing her down flat, shielding the daughter of Ares with her own body- the arrow piercing her, knocking her off the Pegasus- she heard Clarisse's furious scream- and another higher scream from on the battlefield that Percy knew was Silena- and she was moving, even as Drew fell, painfully aware that she'd never be able to catch her in time- and she was falling from too far up- Percy could feel tears stinging her eyes.

Then Thalia was there- and she was flying- Thalia was flying for the first time- or as far as Percy knew it was the first time, and she caught Drew before diving back towards the ground- and Percy, Annabeth and Silena were sprinting to meet her even as Clarisse let out a battle cry that could chill even the toughest of monsters to the bone- but Percy didn't care as she reached Thalia first, taking Drew from Thalia's arms quickly, whirling around and sprinting inside of the building, her heart pounding in her chest, "Medic! We need a medic!"

And Sally, Paul, Nico and Rachel came rushing towards them, looking horrified.

"What happened?"

"She took an arrow for Clarisse-"

"You needed her." Drew's voice was faint, and it was the first time she'd spoken since the arrow hit. Percy turned her gaze downwards, focusing on Drew as she moved towards one of the beds, laying her down carefully, "Figured I had a lot to make up for-"

"Don't you dare." Percy snarled the words, "None of what happened is your fault Drew-"

"Beckendorf lost his arm-"

"Because Kronos is a sly bastard. Without you I wouldn't even be here- now just hold on-"

"I have some Nectar." that was Silena's voice, and Percy held out her hand, taking the Nectar and breaking some of it off into a small square before pressing it to Drew's lips, and she nearly sobbed with relief when the daughter of Aphrodite actually managed to chew and swallow it.

"You're gonna be okay Drew. I promise-"

"Will's on his way." that came from Nico- the others were stood back slightly, giving the sisters and Percy some space as Percy squeezed Drew's hand gently,
"He won't be long. He said not to touch the arrow, pulling it out could make it worse-"

"Thank you."

"Think I'll live?" the question was quiet, pained.

"Of course you will." Silena's voice was shaky, "You're tough Drew." she was crying Percy realised. "You're a hero-"

"That'd be nice." and Percy could see that there were tears in Drew's eyes. And Percy felt her own tears falling down her cheeks, leaving streak marks in the dirt and grime from the battle.

The wound was a nasty one- the arrow had pierced Drew's shoulder, and Percy could see that the color wasn't right, there was a black gunk oozing out of the wound. Percy had seen people die from wounds like that. Annabeth had nearly died from a wound like that.

But no, no she needed to stay calm and believe that her friend was going to be okay.

"You've been a hero all along Drew-"

"No I wasn't." Drew shook her head, "We both know I wasn't- I worked for Alabaster when we first met-" and that made Silena inhale sharply- the older girls eyes going wide in shock. "If I hadn't met you when I did I'd have never left him I'd have been fighting against you guys. That's why I offered to go behind enemy lines Silena. I already knew who'd turn."

"You- you were one of them?" Silena's voice was shaky, "But-"

"She saved me." Percy's voice was pained, "When Alabaster had me on Mount Orthys he assigned Drew to me because of her Charmspeak. She stopped me from losing my mind and then she helped me escape when Alabaster left, and on my birthday she came and she changed sides officially Silena."

"I tried to be good." Drew's voice was tight, "Screwed that up too though-"

"The necklace wasn't your fault Drew you didn't know." Percy shook her head, "You had no idea."

"Beckendorf lost his arm because of it-"

"What?" Silena's eyes were flicking between them, she looked stunned, as if she could hardly take it all in- not that Percy blamed her.

"Drew had this necklace- it was the one thing her dad gave her. Alabaster captured her after she helped me escape, enchanted the necklace so it was basically a listening device and he screwed with her memories."

"I didn't know. I'm sorry- I'm sorry I tried to be good and I fucked it up and I- I wanted to make things right-"

"Oh you idiot-" Silena's voice cracked, "Percy's right it wasn't your fault Drew. Charlie wouldn't blame you. I don't blame you. And you just saved Clarisse's life, if she beats the Drakon it'll be because of you. We'll stand a chance because of you." she grabbed the hand Percy wasn't holding and squeezed it tightly.

"You're my little sister. From now on I'm going to look after you. Okay?"

"I'm sorry." Drew sounded so very small and lost, "I- I don't- I'm sorry." and Percy knew Drew must be terrified out of her mind because Drew didn't do sorry unless she was really, really sorry. "I've been such a bitch-"

"Stop that." Silena pressed her lips to the top of Drew's head, "Just hold on okay? You're going to be fine. You did amazing Drew-" and Drew's eyes were fluttering closed and Silena let out a choked sob, "Drew- Drew no, no wake up-"

"No-" Percy was shaking, "No. No no no." she felt terror flooding through her, "No. No Drew- Drew-"

At that moment Will came sprinting into the building at full speed- his eyes almost instantly focused on Percy, Silena and Drew and he sped towards them, not even taking a moment to greet Nico, dropping down next to the cot, "Give me room to work." he ordered loudly, pulling his back off from where it had been
slung over his shoulder and opening it up.

Percy let out a sob, shaking her head, even as Silena scrambled to her feet and backed away, "No- no I can't I can't she's my friend I can't-"

"Percy!" that was Rachel's voice and she was being hauled backwards, and Percy spun around, hugging Rachel tightly and pressing her face into the other girls shoulder as she sobbed.

"I can't- she saved me I can't lose her I can't-"

"Will will help her." Nico was suddenly there, his hand on her elbow, "If anyone can save her it's Will." And Percy let herself be pulled away, feeling like she was betraying Drew by not staying at her side- but Nico was right. If anyone could help Drew it was Will.

She swallowed hard, taking a deep breath.

"Y-you're right. I- I need to go outside and see how the battle is going."

"Good." Nico's voice was reassuring "Everything's going to be okay Drew will be fine and I'm going to stay with mom and Paul and protect them."

Percy turned her head to look at Nico at that, and she met his gaze- and there was a knowing glint in them. "Nico-"

"I can usually sense death but to do that I have to be able to sense living things." his voice was soft, "And right now I'm hyper aware. I can sense even the smallest of lives-" his eyes flicked back to Sally and Paul and Percy swallowed hard and gave a small nod. "It's like a spark."

"Then you make sure the spark doesn't go out." and Percy hugged him, taking a deep breath before she turned towards the doors, "I'll be back in here as soon as I can be."
