By the time Percy made it outside the Drakon was defeated and Percy stood in the doorway and she blinked slowly, taking it all in.

Clarisse had hooked up the Drakon's carcass to a chariot with a grappling hook through it's eye sockets and she was riding around, dragging the dead Drakon with her like a New Year dragon. She charged after the enemy yelling insults and daring them to cross her- and she was glowing, an aura of red fire flickering around her.

As soon as Percy appeared in the doorway Annabeth was by her side, grabbing her hand and squeezing it tightly. "It's the blessing of Ares." Annabeth informed her, "It's pretty rare."

"Yeah, and terrifying." Clarisse was just as invulnerable as Percy was from the look of it. The enemy threw spears and arrows, but nothing hit her.

"I AM CLARISSE, DRAKON-SLAYER!" she yelled. "I will kill you ALL! Where is Kronos? Bring him out! Is he a coward?"

"Should we stop her?" that voice came from a figure quickly approaching them- Leo, he looked battered and bruised but he was alive, and Percy pulled her hand free from Annabeth's, surging forward and hugging him tightly. "I feel like we should stop her"

"Are you kidding?" That came from Luke, who emerged from the ranks of their fighters, "I don't think Chris or Silena could stop her right now- you should have seen her she was furious that Drew got hurt protecting her. I've never seen Clarisse fight like- it was almost the same level as you taking on the monsters on Kronos' boat and then fighting him yourself-"

"Well from the sounds of it Clarisse wants to challenge Kronos himself too."

"What's the matter, Titan lord?" Clarisse was still screaming "BRING IT ON!"

There was no answer from the enemy. Slowly, they began to fall back behind a dracaenae shield wall, while Clarisse drove in circles around Fifth Avenue, daring anyone to cross her path. The two-hundred-foot-long drakon carcass made a hollow scraping noise against the pavement, like a thousand knives.

"We should probably let her get it out of her system." Percy said after a moment, "That much anger is not going to end well all bottled up. Let's focus on getting our injured inside and seen to."

"Right." Luke nodded, cupping his hands around his mouth and calling, "Okay! Okay let's get people inside now, Will and Ricky are our head medics, they'll be in charge of seeing to the injured-"

"Percy, Mrs O'Leary can Shadow Travel right?" Annabeth asked suddenly.

"I mean, yeah but not too often-"

"But if Nico guides her she's big enough to take a few people at once- she can get most of our injured out of here in a few runs-"

"I-" Percy nodded after a moment, turning her gaze to Luke, "Luke, go talk to Nico about it and get started helping him load people up. Camp is more secure than the Empire State building we don't want to have to try and fight around our wounded and I don't want them taken up to Olympus. It's too risky if we can't hold it. I only want fighters on Olympus- we- we can't be sure it'll be safe for our injured."

"Percy-" Annabeth's voice wavered and Percy gave a strained smile, "We can-"

"Annabeth we have to weigh up our chances and I want our people safe at home not right in the line of fire if we have to retreat into Olympus. We will guard the thrones but- there's a chance we won't be able to hold the line."

"I hate this Seaweed Brain." Annabeth blinked back tears, and Luke took the chance to grab Leo's arm.

"You're coming inside with me Flamehead, you're pretty battered-"

"I can still help-"

"Yeah, you can help by getting people back to camp-" and then they were inside and Percy turned her gaze to Annabeth.

"The situation's pretty bad."

"We're going to lose if the gods don't show up and help soon." Annabeth pitched her voice low, "They need to take out Typhon-"

"They can't. They're not strong enough." Percy knew it.

"Then they need help." that came from Thalia, who approached them with Chris by her side. "Is there any way you can get back up for them?"

"I don't-" Percy hesitated, Hades wouldn't help the Olympians- there was no way he'd agree to that even if he was able to come up. And her dad- he was fighting his own battle- except Kronos had done that on purpose, hadn't he? Percy pressed her lips together in a thin line. "I have an idea." she span around,
"Thalia, fine Zoe, you focus on making sure our defences are prepared, tell Chiron Annabeth and I will be on Olympus. And we need to be ready and willing to retreat into Olympus if it comes down to it so we clear our the injured people in the lobby if we can okay?"

"Got it." Thalia rushed off quickly and Chris gave a wry smile.

"I'll keep an eye on Clarisse for you guys- she'll wear herself out, I'll look after her."

"Thank you." Percy gave him a thumbs up before she grabbed Annabeth and turned to head back inside- pausing when she spotted something out of the
corner of her eye when they were on the way to the elevator.

Grover was kneeling over a fat wounded satyr. Percy let out a startled noise, "Is that Leneus?" she hissed to Annabeth, who gave a small nod.

The old satyr looked terrible. His lips were blue. There was a broken spear in his belly, and his furry goat legs were twisted at a painful angle.

He tried to focus on Grover, but Percy honestly wasn't sure that he was seeing anything, not really.

"Grover?" he murmured.

"I'm here, Leneus." Grover was blinking back tears, despite all the horrible things Leneus had said about him over the last year or so.

"Did... did we win?"

"Um... yes," Grover lied. "Thanks to you, Leneus. We drove the enemy away."

"Told you," the old satyr mumbled. "True leader. True..."

He closed his eyes for the last time.

Grover gulped. He put his hand on Leneus's forehead and spoke an ancient blessing. The old satyr's body melted, until all that was left was a tiny sapling in a pile of fresh soil.

"A laurel," Grover said in awe. "Oh, that lucky old goat."

He gathered up the sapling in his hands. "I . . . I should plant him. In Olympus, in the gardens."

He lifted his head to look at the two girls, eyes shining slightly with the tears that he wasn't allowing to fall.

"We're headed that way." Percy held out a hand, and Grover reached up with his free hand and took Percy's, letting her pull him to his feet. "We need to visit the throne room."

"Why?" Annabeth frowned, "Percy what are you planning?"

"You'll see soon." Percy gave a wry grin, "I'd rather not tell you, you'd never approve-"

"See that does not help my confidence." Annabeth huffed the words and rolled her eyes as they headed towards the elevators together.

And soon enough they were alone in the elevator, and Percy let out a breath, giving a tight smile as she looked at her two friends. "This- it's crazy isn't it?"

"Last time we came up here together like this was with the bolt." Annabeth's lips twitched, "We were so much younger then."

"Feels like it was a lifetime ago." Grover admitted. "Not just over three years."

"I could barely stand." Percy admitted, smiling sadly at the memories "That was the start- and we're nearing the end now you guys. I'm glad we have this moment. Just us."

"The original trio." Grover agreed, "Ignoring, y'know, the fact that we weren't a trio when we left camp-"

"As far as I'm concerned that bastard doesn't count." Percy said firmly, "It was our quest not his. And we succeeded then. We'll do the same this time. I promise you guys. We're going to win this war."

"I really hope you're right." Grover's smile was strained, "But at least we're together. Right?"

"Right." Percy agreed with a tight smile and a nod, "The worlds greatest trio."

There was a ding as they reached their destination and Annabeth squeezed Percy's hand tightly.

"I really hope you know what you're doing Seaweed brain."

"Do I ever not?"

"Do you want me to answer that question-"

"Rude, and here I thought you loved me." as they spoke the doors opened and the trio stepped out onto the aerial walkway and Percy caught her breath- Olympus was usually beautiful- now it was almost foreboding.

The only people around were Demigods who'd been sent up as an advance guard, to stay up on Olympus ready for if the enemy broke though and nature spirits preparing to defend their home too- Percy spotted several familiar faces. People turning to look at them as they passed, and she gave them small nods, Annabeth pausing briefly to reassure them while Grover took a moment to plant the sapling that had once been Leneus.

Once he was done Percy, Annabeth and Grover returned their focus to their destination and together they headed straight to the palace, through the familiar halls to the throne room.

When they arrived the bronze doors creaked open. their footsteps echoed on the marble floor. The constellations twinkled coldly on the ceiling of the great hall. The hearth was down to a dull red glow. Hestia, in the form of a little girl in brown robes, hunched at its edge, shivering. The Ophiotaurus swam sadly in his sphere of water. He let out a half-hearted moo when he saw Percy- and she felt sure he could sense how serious the situation was.

In the firelight, the thrones cast evil-looking shadows, like grasping hands.

And Percy's breath caught. At the foot of Zeus' throne was a familiar Greek ceramic vase, and Percy tense. "Oh gods- what's that doing here?"

"Seaweed brain?" Annabeth's voice was concerned, "What's wrong."

"Pandora's jar." Percy breathed the words, "It's supposed to be locked up I don't-" she swallowed hard, shaking her head.

"What-" Grover's voice was confused, "Why would Pandora's jar be here I don't-"

"It was a gift." Percy moved towards it slowly, reluctantly, releasing her girlfriends hand as she did. "If I open it and release hope it will be a sign of our surrender-"

"No-" Annabeth's breath caught, "Percy you're not considering it are you? It's here to tempt you it has to be."

"I know." Percy moved towards it, hands shaking as she reached out to lay her hands on the cool ceramic- Annabeth and Grover looked almost frozen, staring it fear at her as she did. "Things are pretty bad." so many people had died- she didn't even know how many yet- she'd seen bodies in the streets, bodies of
her friends, people she'd known for years.

She thought about Sherman, who'd died trying to make things right. Of Drew who might still die.

Nico who had nearly killed himself. They'd lost so many of their fighters. And the Titan army just seemed to have more and more monsters. She thought of Rachel and her parents who'd nearly been taken.

They were fighting a losing battle- there would be no stopping Kronos from getting up here, she could feel it in her bones- and she'd known for days hadn't she? Since she saw Rachel's painting. It made no sense but it would happen- she was fighting fate itself to try and avoid it but it would happen. And it would happen on Olympus- and it was so tempting to give up- so tempting.

But- she thought about Luke, Leo and Nico, still alive if battered and beaten, they needed her, and so did Rachel and her mom. And Clarisse, Will, Kayla. Drew needed her- they all needed her to be strong. They needed her to fight. Because she knew Kronos wouldn't allow them to live no matter what he promised her to get her to agree to his wishes.

She felt her back straightening up slightly, a determined gleam in her eyes as she did so.

She knew what to do with Pandora's jar now- and her gaze swung to find the little girl hunched over by the hearth.

Yeah. She knew exactly what to do.
