Who else thought they would wait another couple of months for a chapter? So did I.
This is a sneak peek for a story I posted way too long ago (and I say sneak peek although it doesn't allude to the story at all, but you understand the meaning in this context. It's just a PSA of its existence). Anyways, enjoy.
Photo #117: Knight in Shining Button-Ups
For her entire life, Eadlyn's heard stories about the beauty in her parents' relationship. Whether it was from the media or people she's met along the way, lots of opinions and stories were about how beautiful their love is. Illéa has never seen anything like it before. It brought a realness to the monarchy. There was something about them being unrequited back in the day. Her mother was the people's and, allegedly, King Clarkson's least favourite. (Eadlyn later learned that was true but that's a story for another time). But there was something rooted in her being the selected, and it bloomed with nearly two decades of a happy marriage and four kids.
Then again, people don't know the whole story. Eadlyn can contest that she's seen a few arguments here and there but never anything leading to a divorce. Although she isn't bringing any of that up from experience, it's because of this photo. Her parents are looking at each other with frustration behind some censored grins.
It didn't even hit Eadlyn that they're wearing the same outfits. She didn't think her parents were ever one of those couples but that moment is a whole new tier of relationship goals.

"Are you ready?" Maxon asks.
He fastens his watch, waiting for America to finish in their bedroom's ensuite. He hears her walk out as he buttons the last on his rolled-up sleeve. Maxon turns around and sees America stopped at the bathroom door, staring at him with shocked eyes. Maxon takes a second to find out the reason behind her gesture.
And then he sees her outfit: white button-up and blue jeans.
It's the same outfit as him.
"Well, one of us will have to change," America states.
"I'm not," Maxon states.
"Why not?"
"Because I just put on my cuff links."
"Well, I just did my hair. It'll get ruined if I take this shirt off."
"It has buttons in the front," Maxon says, walking up to her and gesturing to the buttons that go all the way up her torso. "It doesn't go over your head."
"Then why don't I take yours off?" America says. She leans forwards and fiddles with Maxon's top button. "Be my knight in shining button-ups and take off that armour."
Maxon pauses. Intriguing but he stands his ground and removes her hands from his shirt. "Don't - don't distract me."
America grunts, taking her hands back. "I was so close."
"You didn't even get the top button undone."
She rolls her eyes. He has a point but she won't admit that. "Come on, Maxon, put your self-worth in something other than your appearance."
"But you could wear anything, my dear. All that matters is if your face looks good."
She smiles sweetly. "It really doesn't matter how good I look, dear. It's all about the quality of the man I have by my side."
Maxon inhales sharply. They both have compelling and flattering arguments, and they know that, but nothing's working. Nobody's budging. The only time they move is when Marlee opens the door and they both look at her. Marlee pauses, scanning both of their outfits and smiling wildly and approvingly. Before she says anything, she walks over to Maxon's dresser. She takes his camera and snaps a photo of the couple.
"What are you doing?" America asks.
Marlee lowers the camera. "The King and Queen are one of those couples."
Maxon and America stay silent as Marlee snickers to herself.
"I'm still not changing," America states.
"America!" Maxon yells back.
It's never easy to get the thing they want most in the world, even in the worst way possible. They weren't asked for a lot. They were just asking the wrong person.
It's a little short but I like it.
I have Grammarly and, when it checked this chapter, it gave little emojis to guess the tone. It gave me a white button-up to indicate formal. I loved it.
Margot Robbie, one of my queens, once said that a white button-up and blue jeans will never go out of style and I fully believe her. My outfit that transcends time (and is what I'm wearing right now) is black pants, black shirt, and a blue denim jacket.
And now the story:
Knight in Shining Spandex - While walking home from school one day, MJ turns down an alleyway. In his Spider-Man uniform, Peter sees MJ from a nearby rooftop and decides to pay her a surprise visit. (Peter x Michelle OS)
