This story was based on fanart I saw, and it inspired me to write this little one-shot. I hope you enjoy~
It was quite the challenge to write this story the way that I did and I'm satisfied with how it turned out!
I do not claim Yu-Gi-Oh or its characters as my own.
Imagine life as a cat.
Living a luxurious life in a castle surrounded by hot sands. Worshipped by the people who live in the castle. Being fed healthy meals three times a day with treats in between meals. Plush and comfortable pillows to sleep on. Toys and hours of playtime. Glittering gold jewelry to show one's status in the castle. Baths that kept your fur soft and clean. High vantage points to watch the people of the castle go about their day. Knowing all the ins and outs of places that shouldn't be visited, but you do just to get a rile out of the servants and watch them panic. The job of keeping the mice from making a permanent home in the castle.
Then there was love. Love was the favored person that spoke your name. It was the smile that spread across their face as they greeted you. It was the laugh that bubbled from their chest at your silly antics throughout the castle. It was the soft and gentle feel of their hands. The gentle massages behind the ears, cheeks, and under the chin. It was the way their violet eyes became half-lidded as they stared at you lovingly. It was the way the warmth of their body felt as they picked you up and held you in their arms. The gentle kisses and soft whispers in your ears of their love. It was the quiet nightly cuddles as you both slept in their large, comfortable bed.
You wished to stay with them forever.
Imagine being curled up comfortably on your favorite person's lap as they stroked your spotted golden fur idly. A party being thrown in their honor as they watched from their throne, the air buzzing with music and laughter from the dancers.
And then suddenly the air grew tense, making your fur bristle as you became aware of danger. An intruder made their presence known, making fast movements to attack your favorite person. Your protective instincts kicked in. You leaped from their lap with a battlecry and outstretched claws. You latched onto the intruder's face and slashed their skin with your sharp claws, making them cry out in pain and anger.
Then there was pain. The pain of something sharp raking across your body, and something wet and dark covered your fur. You heard your favorite person calling your name and your body was thrown to the ground where you lay still, trying to take in as much air as you could. It was hard to breathe through the pain. The commotion around you was loud and deafening, but the intruder was eventually chased out.
A hand on your head made you aware of your favorite person's presence. Green eyes met violet orbs. Water leaked from their eyes. No… It was tears. They were crying while whispering your name. They shouldn't be sad. You nuzzled against their hand, hoping to ease their sadness. Your body grew numb from the pain and your vision began to grow dark. One last shallow breath, and the last of your life left your feline body.
Then it was dark. Darkness was all you grew to know from that moment.
"Dalila."
A soft light appeared in the darkness, emanating a gentle warmth that filled your soul and comforted you. You weren't scared. It felt welcoming.
"You have a wish. What is your deepest desire? What is it you want?"
What you want… That was an easy answer. You wanted to be with your favorite person. You wanted to feel their love. You wanted to love them.
"Your wish shall be granted."
The light spread until that was all there was. Just a bright light that chased away the darkness.
Imagine a brand new life as a human. A bustling city full of different types of people. A school full of students trying to learn all they could for a life as an adult in their coming years. Games were all that you grew to love. And you found a group of people who enjoyed the same things as you.
One of them had the color of violet for eyes, a color that you knew with your very soul. But they didn't belong to your favorite person. They looked similar, but they weren't the same person. They even had the same golden puzzle hanging from their neck. But it wasn't them.
It was only on one fateful day did you see them. The person you had transcended through time to meet again. They were dueling someone, but you didn't pay attention to it. All you could do was stare at them. Their violet eyes shone with the same confidence and authority that they had a long time ago, something you knew with your very soul. You had finally found them. This was your favorite person.
When the duel was over, you couldn't contain yourself. You ran straight to them and threw your arms around them, knocking them to the ground with a surprised yelp. You couldn't help it, you were so happy. Tears fell from your eyes as you smiled and nuzzled their shoulder.
"What…?" They didn't know what to do. They were confused. They pushed you away just enough to look at your face, and you wiped your eyes and face. "Do I know you?"
You opened your green eyes and smiled at him. "My name is Delilah, and I've waited so long to see you again…"
Violet eyes blinked in confusion. "You've waited for me?"
You nodded and closed your eyes again, remembering your previous life as a cat. "I still cherish those days in my dreams. When you would massage behind my ears… When you would cuddle with me after a long day… When I would catch the mice in the castle and you would tell me I did a good job… When you would-"
"Wait, wait," he interrupted quickly, trying to hide the blush on his face from all the weird scenarios you had named out of context. But there was a strange look on his face that you couldn't place. "Mice?"
"Mhm! They sometimes tried to sneak into the castle but I always found them and chased them out," you told him with a satisfied smile. "And the servants would always get mad when they found me in a high place I wasn't supposed to go, but I never came down unless you came to get me." You giggled at the memory in your head. "There was no place my tail could not hide!"
He gasped, a look of realization flashing in his violet eyes. His hands found their way to your cheeks slowly, as if afraid to touch you. "Dalila…?" His voice was quiet, as if speaking the name would suddenly make you disappear. Tears welled up in his eyes.
You grinned and cupped the hands that cradled your face. "Yes. I've missed you…"
"I've missed you too…" The tears in his eyes finally fell and he touched his forehead to yours. "It's good to see you again."
I'm super tempted to write this as its own series, but I challenged myself to only make it a one-shot.
Leave a review and let me know what you thought! And if you'd want it as a series or not, I may be tempted to keep it going xD
8-25-2021 Update:
I won't be making it it's own series, however I will be adding Dalila/Delilah to another story of mine as a friend of both Yami/Atem and the main OC, Hiroshi. That story just hasn't been posted yet.
