RING RING RING

The sound of his ARCUS ringing echoed through the room. His fuchsia orbs continued to stare at the device with disinterest. Now knowing who the caller is, Rean can't seem to find it in him to answer it, especially since 'he' interrupted his and Fie's moment together.

The silver-haired bracer drummed her fingers on the table, slowly getting more annoyed at the tone. She decided to take action if Rean took the call; if not, then she'll find another way to give a certain Chevalier payback for tonight. But like the responsible man he is, Rean sighed in defeat as he grabbed his ARCUS II.

"You don't have to answer him, you know."

"I know, Fie. But it might be something important." Rean reasoned.

"Well, I wanna hear his excuse for interrupting us." The girl got up and sat near her partner, close enough that she's within ARCUS range. "If it's a bad one, I'm giving him bullet holes the next time I see him."

He sweatdropped, but at the same time, he didn't have an ounce of pity for the Azure Chevalier.

The instructor sighed again as he answered the call.

But before he could say anything else, he was blasted by an annoying voice from the other line.

What the hell took you so lo- Unfortunately for the slacker, Rean didn't want any of it.

"What do you want, Crow?"

Huh?! Why do you sound mad? I should be the one pissed, you know. I was waiting for four freaking hours for you to call!

"And? You know I'm on leave, right? Couldn't you save what you want to talk about for tomorrow? Unless it's really important, I would prefer to go back to what I was doing." He elucidated with a deadpan tone.

"Yeah, Armbrust. You have the worst timing." Fie added with her own deadpan tone.

Hey! It's hella important!

Before the slacker continued, he requested a video call. Rean was a bit skeptical but accepted the request nonetheless.

A feed of a white-haired man with crimson eyes came to view on the instructor's ARCUS. He had a bandage patched around his right cheek and head, a few bruises visible on his visage. He had a goofy grin with a mug of beer visible from his current location.

And why are ya calling me Armbrust, Fie?! We're friends!

"Not anymore. You interrupted our quality time together, you idiot. No wonder you can't find a girlfriend." She mocked the white-haired man, yet her expression remained blank.

Quality time together? Crow stated out loud before it finally dawned on him. A smirk crossed his visage as he looked towards the young instructor. Now I understand why you two are so upset. Either because I interrupted your making out session, ooor you two were planning to... He stopped for dramatic effect. "bow-chicka-wow-wow~."

Instantly, Rean's cheeks flared up as he began waving his hands in front of his ARCUS. "W-we weren't planning anything of the sort!"

Ooh~. Someone seems to understand what I meant. You have a pretty dirty mind for an instructor, Reanie.

"I know, right? He was pretty pervy back at the springs too." Fie smirked, clearly finding her partner's state amusing. She hasn't fully forgiven Crow, but she'll at least join him in the fun.

Now, this I gotta know. Spill the beans, Fie!

"F-Fie!"

"I'll tell you tomorrow, Crow," She began before taking a more serious tone. "But tell us first why you decided to mess with our plans tonight."

The Chevalier on the screen sweatdropped, clearly, he ruined their night, but at least he got something interesting out of it. He cleared his throat as he looked at the pair with a happy-go-lucky expression on his countenance.

Kurt messaged you about calling me tonight, right?

"Oh. Yeah... I remember now..." Rean mumbled, realizing that he was at fault. But who could blame him? Spending time with his lover always made him lose track of time.

"I'm sorry that I forgot, alright," He apologized as he rubbed the back of his neck. "But what's so important that I needed to call you?"

I was going to give you my report about everything that happened today, you ungrateful bastard! Aaand, the reason I told Kurt to message you instead of doing it myself was because your kids messed up my ARCUS real good, and I had to transfer my contacts to another unit.

"Wait, what!?"

"Now I'm curious about what happened..." Fie said with a slight brow raised.

Now, do you want me to tell you about what happened?

"...y-yeah."

Get ready then, you youngins! It's a long story...

"So annoying." The bracer groused as she proceeded to get comfortable. Hugging her knees against her chest, preparing herself to hear what the slacker has to say.

Rean placed his ARCUS on the table, lowering its screen just enough so they can still see their friend.

All right then... I just arrived at the Branch Campus and I got called to go see Le Guin in her office...

Thors Branch Campus, Leeves

[04/ 20/ S. 1207]

-10:05-

Walking down the halls of the Branch Campus was Crow Armbrust and Towa Herschel. The slacker had just arrived at the town when the petite woman informed him that the Principal would like to speak to him about something. She wasn't sure what it was about; all she knows is that he would be New Class VII's homeroom and combat instructor during the time Rean was away.

"What the hell does Le Guin want with me? I already accepted the job, and she gave me the list of things I have to do." The white-haired man complained; his hands were on the back of his head as he walked through the halls.

"Ahahaha... I can't say for sure, but you don't have to be nervous, Crow. I'm sure she just wants to chat with you before you have to head to Special Ops." The petite instructor reasoned.

"Any chat with the Rakshasa is a nerve-wracking one." He sighed. "Good thing she placed me as their combat instructor, though. History isn't really my thing."

"Crow. You know that's not true; I'm sure if you studied the review materials I gave you last week, you will be able to teach the others."

"Maybe. But if I did that, I'll be stealing Rean's specialty. I'll be too popular for my own good; handsome, strong, and knowledgeable about history. Dang, that's the total package!" Crow grinned, tone full of mirth.

The brown-haired woman sweatdropped at his... optimism. She knew Crow always had a happy-go-lucky attitude, especially since he got revived during the end of the Great Twilight, though she knew he can be serious when the situation needs him to be. The two stopped as they arrived at the door of the Rakshasa.

"That's one way to look at it..." Towa smiled nervously at her friend. "We're here. Do your best, Crow! I'm sure you'll do great!"

She smiles once again before leaving the Chevalier behind. Climbing up the stairs, likely going to the classroom of Military Finance. A sigh came out of him as he scratched his head, wondering how his friend and his partner could run this place with just the two of them. Well, if you don't count the countess herself.

Knocking on the door, he heard a commanding voice from behind the frame.

"You may enter, Armbrust!"

"Much obliged, Boss."

Turning the knob of the door, he entered the den of the lioness. Even being the principal of an academy, it didn't make her less intimidating than she already was.

"Come here. Take a seat; I have something to discuss with you before you go to the young lions." The countess stood up and gestured her hand towards the seat in front of her desk.

"All right..."

Crow walked towards the chair and proceeded to sit on it with Aurelia doing the same.

"If you are feeling hungry, I have some snacks right here. Go on, no need to be shy." She offered as she pushed a bowl of snacks in front of him.

Any normal person who knew the Golden Rakshasa would be nervous, especially if they have a one-on-one confrontation with her. And only those who are battle-hardened can act so casually with her. Crow though, he was still nervous around her, her presence was quite overwhelming, but he can't refuse free food!

"Don't mind if I do~." He said as he took a cookie from the bowl.

"Wonderful!" She grinned as she rested her arms on the desk, fingers intertwined as she watched him eat his snack.

"So, what did you want to talk about?"

"It's about continuing the Panzer Soldat Training. And I would like you, Crow Armbrust, to assist me in doing so by being my sparring partner." She stated with a serious tone.

The slacker almost choked on his cookie when he heard the news. "WHAT!?"

"You heard me. Your skills with a Soldat is comparable to Schwarzer; you would make a fine partner. And I'm not doing this just for my pleasure. This is meant to light a fire in the students once again. Ever since Orlando returned to the Special Support Section, we didn't have any solutions for our combat training. I would have overseen that myself but I'm quite busy."

"So you want me to spare against you!?" He yelled, slamming his hands against his desk. "Look, Tyrfing may be a successor to a Divine Knight, but it is still in development. I can't exactly go all-out without badly damaging it."

"Were you expecting to fight me on your own?" Aurelia asked with a brow raised.

...

"...huh?"

"All you needed to do was ask. That can be arranged shortly."

"WAIT!" He waved his hands wildly. Now understanding that he was thinking that he was going to fight her all on his own. "I take it back. I want one of Rean's students to back me up."

"That was the initial plan. Also, I requested you to do this because what you do with Class VII is entirely up to you. The list I gave you is the things you need to do for the entire Branch Campus students, what kind of class you have planned for Class VII rest on your shoulders." She explained further, gazing at his crimson eyes.

"Oh... So that's why." He returned to his seat as he finally understood everything.

"Well, that's all I have to discuss with you. You may now go to your classroom and formally introduce yourselves to them. The Soldat Training starts in 45 minutes."

"Understood..." He sighed. Getting up from his seat, he exited her office.

Crow was now heading towards New Class VII's classroom. He was in deep thought, not even paying attention to his surroundings. The man was coming up with a battle plan against the woman. He knows he and the others were able to beat the Eighth Divine Knight last month ago. But that was because a miracle occurred during the time; he doesn't even know if he can reproduce the same kind of power against Le Guin.

He mumbled to himself all the potential battle plans he could do, but his thoughts were interrupted as he bumped into a wall.

"Ow!"

The slacker didn't even realize he already passed their classroom.

'Dammit, I shouldn't bother thinking about it for now. I'll use up all my time doing that!'

Even if he does lose the battle, at least he won't be the only one going down. That's what he thought anyway as he entered the classroom and was greeted by familiar sets of eyes. Surprise apparent on their faces.

"C-Crow?! You're our instructor?!" Juna asked in genuine surprise, standing up from her seat.

"Yo."

"It seems I was incorrect." Altina mused.

"Yes, it seems I too was wrong with my predictions." Musse said more to herself than to anyone in the room.

"Hah! I told you, you bozos will get it wrong." Ash mocked them with a smirk on his lips.

Crow sweatdropped at all of their reactions. They must not have been told that he was their instructor for the duration of Rean's absence. The sound of someone clearing their throat caused the others to silence themselves.

"Forgive us for the commotion, Instructor Armbrust. We were not told who was substituting for Instructor Rean, so we are a bit surprised it was you." Kurt informed the man as he stood up and bowed.

"Surprise is an understatement." He deadpanned, looking at the students with a half-lidded look.

"Hahaha... sorry about that, Crow, oh! Are we supposed to call you Instructor Crow now...?" The pinkette asked.

"I believe it should be Instructor Armbrust." The white-haired girl voiced. "Since we have not been fully acquainted yet."

"Allie, don't you think that's a bit harsh of a reason...?"

"Or should we call him Instructor Rean's boyfriend~?" The mint-haired girl interjected her own opinion.

"Armbrust sounds fine to me." The half-blonde gave his own take on the matter.

"That's because you addressed Instructor Rean like that." The Vander sighed in his friend's answer.

'Geez, were they always this rowdy...?'

Crow cleared his throat, all eyes on him.

"I don't really care about formalities; I prefer you guys just call me Crow or whatever you've been calling me. We have some... business to sort out right now." Crow headed towards the desk where Rean usually is. "In about... 30 minutes or so? We got Soldat Training with the Rakshasa, and someone's going to be lucky enough to be my training partner."

It was safe to say their surprise was obvious on their faces.

Juna stood up from her seat, surprised and shocked by the news.

Musse twirled her mint-colored hair in unease.

Altina's eyes widened.

Ash scoffed and stretched his neck around.

Kurt was the only one who didn't perform any peculiar action, but his surprise was the same.

"We haven't piloted one for a while now! Don't you think she'll destroy us?!" The Crossbellian argued.

"Correct, we would have a significant disadvantage out there." The female noble agreed. "And I assume the power you three displayed in Elysium cannot be done again?"

"If that is the case, I won't be able to provide support." The white-haired bunny sighed at herself.

"Yeah... It was thanks to Ordine and the others that helped us link up with one another. I'm not so sure if it's even possible to do it again..."

"Well, that settles it then. You're gonna get your ass whooped by the Rakshasa." The delinquent smirked at the man's inevitable defeat.

"Your one cheeky brat, huh." Annoyed at his comment, Crow shot a glare at the Ash. "In that case... you're gonna help me take down Le Guin, Mr. Trigger Finger."

"THE HELL!?" Ash shot up from his seat.

"What? You scared or somethin'?" The slacker taunted. "And here I thought that you're the strongest pilot here. I guess I was wrong."

His last statement struck a nerve in the Hamel survivor.

"Fine. I'll show you that I'm the strongest pilot out here, old man."

"Bring it on, punk."

The two glared each other down. Their fighting aura was exuding out of them as if they were out for blood. The others just looked at them, dumbfounded and confused at how quick things worked out... kinda.

"Those two are more similar than they think." Kurt whispered to the others.

"Yeah. I'm surprised they're not getting along right away." Juna opined.

"I can't wait to see how the two will work together to defeat Principal Aurelia~" Musse giggled. But by her tone, she had little faith in their ability to defeat the Principal, but she is cheering them on though.

"Instructor Armbrust's piloting skills are on an equal level with Instructor Rean, or even more so due to him piloting a Divine Knight longer than him." Altina disclosed.

Pinching the bridge of his nose, Crow wasn't sure how to deal with these kids for an entire week. That being said, he doesn't plan on letting that punk thrash talk him like that. With a smirk, he walks towards Ash and puts him in a headlock.

"If we win, how about I take you out to the finest club in Jurai?"

"I'm listening..."

The two began to whisper at each other. No one in the room could hear what they were talking about; all they know is that the two were up to no good. How can the others tell? Their smirks were a dead giveaway. Those two really are one of a kind, but they're hoping that the duo can win against the Principal.

The voice of Towa interrupted their thoughts through the speakers, informing the students to gather around in the academy field. With no more time to think of a more viable plan, the two and the rest of New Class VII headed out of the classroom.

All of the branch campus students have arrived at the field. Understandably confused at the announcement except for Class VII. Striding across the field was Aurelia with Towa in tow. She stood in front of the kids, arms crossed and with a confident smile.

"Today will be the return of your Panzer Soldat Training." She stated.

This caused a minor uproar from the students, and once again, only Class VII wasn't particularly shocked due to them already being informed.

"Now, now. No need to be concerned, all of you will be merely observing for today. The ones who will be participating in the training will be Instructor Armbrust and one member of Class VII."

A sigh of relief came out of the rest of the students.

"Now, Armbrust. Who will be your partner in today's bout?" She glanced at Crow as she questioned him.

"This guy right here, Boss." The slacker pointed to his right, more specifically, at the blonde delinquent.

Ash hmphed and stretched his neck as he came forward.

"Yeah, that's right. I'm this slacker's partner." Ash gave a half-lidded look and smirked at Crow. "And we're not planning to take the L today."

"Wonderful! I approve of your enthusiasm!" Clapping her hands, she grinned at the teenager.

With a snap from her fingers, the door of the hangar opened. Three machines came out of the metal frame, one gold Spiegel S, one red Hector Mk. II, and one azure Tyrfing X. It may have been quite some time, but the Soldats can now see the light of day once again.

The three pilots walked towards their respective mechs.

"Hey."

Crow turned his head, his attention being gained by Ash.

"You sure we can handle that lioness?"

"Honestly... I doubt we can beat her even with the two of us," The delinquent clicked his tongue, but the jokester was not done talking. "But I say we can still give her a run for her mira."

"Heh. Fine by me."

Entering the cockpit, the Hector and Tyrfing were now going into their positions towards the field, with the Spiegel doing the same. The three giants were in the center area of the field while the students and Towa were on the bleachers. Altina and Claiomh Solais were on standby, just in case they needed a barrier.

"Now. I assume the two of you are ready to start this bout?"

"We can't really say no, right?"

"Don't tell me your chickening out now, Instructor?" Ash asked mockingly.

"I thought you were the one planning to do that, but I guess you have more balls than I give you credit for." The slacker sneered with the half-blonde scoffing at the remark.

The bundle of students couldn't help but sweatdrop. They weren't even sure if they can beat the Rakshasa at this point with the way the two were acting. The petite instructor beside them tried to reassure them that everything will be all right, but that did little effect on them.

A girl's voice broke through the petty argument.

"ASH! INSTRUCTOR CROW! Can you guys stop fighting for just one second?! You two said you'll show us what you're made of. So stop fighting and show us!" Juna chastised the two; her temper ran out while enduring the idiots.

"Agreed. You said it yourself, Ash. You said you'll prove to us that you are the strongest pilot among the Branch Campus. Show us what you can do with your Hector!" Kurt cheered as he directed his fist at the delinquent. As if he was doing a fist bump.

Their encouragement and motivation proved to help the other students to cheer them on. Cheers erupted at the bleachers, with the students telling them to do their best and show them what they can do together.

"Every single one of you and your cheesy lines. All of you are acting like Schwarzer now."

"Heh heh. Fine, let's get this show on the road."

The Soldats entered their combat stance.

"It seems you two are finally ready to start." Aurelia grinned, her Soldat's treasure sword ready to initiate combat.

"Well, yeah. Talk is cheap after all."

"You can say that again."

"Very well..."

Silence followed.

The rushing wind blew through the field as all of them waited for any action to take place. Some students gulped while others fidgeted. No one dared to utter a word; no doubt the pilots are getting ready to clash against each other.

"Begin!"

"Gotcha! / Hell yeah!"

Both Tyrfing and Hector rushed towards the golden mech. The azure Soldat performed a horizontal slash with its double saber, while the red one did a downward strike with its varia axe. The sound of metals clashing rang throughout the field.

The intense force of their attacks caused the dust and smoke to scatter around. The students could not see what happened next. Remnants of smoke still lingering around the battlefield. The sound of the machines moving was their only indication that the battle was not over.

Smoke and dust fading, the three machines were still standing. To make matters worse for the duo, the Spiegel didn't have any visible scratches. In an instance, the golden mech lunged to the bulkier of the two. Aurelia swung its treasure sword as Ash used his weapon to block her attack, only for him to be knocked back.

With a smirk on his face, the delinquent student slammed his axe on the ground with enough force to create an impromptu smokescreen.

The Rakshasa's vision was limited, looking around for her targets as she stepped forward on the battlefield.

While her attention was on Ash, Crow used the diversion to charge up his weapon with energy and sneak up towards his opponent. Jumping above from the smokescreen, he could see a clear view of the Spiegel. He pulled back his energy-coated double saber and spun around in a full one hundred eighty degrees.

"Criminal Edge!"

Her Spiegel turned just in time and used her sword to block the Tyrfing's attack. She parried the assault and slashed upward at the Crow.

Little did she know, it was all part of their plan.

"Gah... ASH NOW!"

"You got it!"

At that moment, Ash released the special feature of his weapon as it extended and was aimed at the Spiegel. Wrapping its chain around the mech, they restrained its movements.

"My, my. So this was your tactic from the beginning." Aurelia commented.

"We can't exactly let you swing that sword of yours freely."

"Damn right. If we don't restrain your movements, we won't have a chance of winning." Ash pulled his weapon back, causing Aurelia's Spiegel to step backward.

"T-they actually have a shot at winning this!" Juna said with a smile.

"Yes. I did not expect their teamwork to be this good." Altina added, a visible smile on her face present as she said those words.

"I must agree, I never expected Instructor Crow to take a hit just so Ash can restrain Principal Aurelia's mobility." Musse gave her two cents on the situation. Though she is genuinely happy for the duo.

"Well, yes. But this battle would probably be fairer if Instructor Crow wasn't... repeatedly attacking the Spiegel wildly with his weapon." Kurt said with a baffled look.

"Eh?"

The three female members of Class VII looked back at the academy field. Surprised looks took hold of the three as they witness the Tyrfing swing its double saber repeatedly at the golden mech. They could swear that they can hear the laughter of the delinquent and slacker.

"Time to end this!"

Crow's Soldat jumped back and pulled back its double saber. An intense shade of red surrounded the machine, a slight murderous intent mixed in. At the same time, the Spiegel broke free of its shackles and surrounded his blade with radiating energy.

"Dynast Sunder!"

"Shit!"

Swinging her mighty blade, she released an intense shockwave of light energy towards the Hector. The machine was knocked back from the impact, causing it to be on its knees. Sparks and flares emitted from the machine; it was no longer usable for battle.

"...dammit!" Ash slammed his fist on the side of the cockpit. 'It's all up to you now, Armbrust...'

Opening the cockpit, Ash exited out and hurried to the bleachers where the others were waiting for him. It was a good idea anyway; he would only get in the way if he stayed in the Soldat. And the battlefield would soon become Gehenna itself.

A radiant aura shrouded the Rakshasa's Soldat; her treasure sword shined with a golden glow. Contrary to the light the Spiegel was displaying, the Azure Chevalier's Soldat was leaking dark red energy around the area; its double saber was being coated with dark energy. The amount of energy they were releasing was so great; tremors began to take place at the academy.

As the two mechs stepped forward, the tremors started to slowly become more violent.

"Altina!" Towa commanded as she gestured the students to step back even further.

"Claiomh Solais!"

The black doll created a barrier around them. Protecting them from the potential danger that the machines may inflict upon them. Musse and Juna cast defensive arts to strengthen the magical barrier. The brown-haired instructor nodded but still had a worried look on her visage.

"I must say, the two of you proved to be worthy opponents despite only piloting again for a short time," Aurelia admitted with a smile. "But I think we both agree that this battle has gone far too long, no?"

"Yeah. Let's end this..." Crow said.

Tyrfing X bent his knees forward as he drew back his weapon. The energy it was displaying was violently flowing out of the machine as if it can no longer be contained. The golden Spiegel responded in kind; its golden aura was almost blinding to everyone on the field.

"Shoulder the cross of your demise!" The azure mech came rushing forward, weapon at the ready.

"Brilliant Blade Dance!"

"Deadly Cross!"

Aurelia brought forth a mighty swing towards Crow as numerous blades appeared on the ground. He reacted by jumping back and coating his double saber with energy and firing an X-shaped energy blast. The two attacks connected, resulting in an explosion that blinded the spectators' vision.

But the bright light could not hide the sound of steel clashing against each other nor the cries of the two pilots.

Then suddenly...

It went quiet. The blinding light slowly fading away.

In the field, the Soldats were on their knees. The Spiegel used its treasure sword to support itself while the Tyrfing's condition was a lot worse. The double saber cracked, and sparks were flying out of the machine. The damage done to the azure Soldat proved that it was the one that lost the clash.

The cockpit opened, revealing one Crow Armbrust. Luckily, no visible wounds on his frame.

"Dammit... I was so close..." He sighed as he walked back to the bleachers.

"Instructor!" Juna waved. "Are you alright? You're not hurt, are you?"

"Yes. Please tell us if you are injured. That last attack must have dealt some sort of damage even when you were in the cockpit." Kurt said.

"I'm fine, guy. But thanks." The slacker thanked the two.

"I knew she was gonna whoop your ass," Ash sneered before his tone shifted. "But you did pretty well going up against the Rakshasa." He said with a sincere tone.

Crow was surprised the punk would say that to him, but he cannot say that he isn't happy. He ruffled his hair with a cheeky grin as the delinquent protested. The others laughed at how Ash was being treated.

"I agree with Carbide. You should not be ashamed of your performance." Aurelia said as she walked towards the group. "You showed the power you can do without the power of the ARCUS links. You have proved to us all that you are skilled whether on a Soldat or a Divine Knight."

A slight blush made its way to Crow's face, a bit embarrassed at the praises.

The others, not just Class VII, agreed with the principal's words. They walked to the slacker and complimented him for a job well done. Joking around until Aurelia made a speech about today.

The speech dragged on for a bit until they were finally dismissed. Everyone had gone back to their respective classrooms except for the principal and New Class VII.

"Before I leave, I must ask what you have planned for your class with these young lions," Aurelia said, looking at Crow.

"Well..." He placed his hand on his chin as he pondered. He looked towards the students one by one as an idea came to mind. "How about a 3v3 duel?"

"Interesting. Very well, I approve of this activity!" She declared. "What you do from here on is up to your jurisdiction, Armbrust." The principal turned around and headed back to the building.

"So, how are we gonna arrange the teams?" Juna asked.

"If I may suggest," The dual sword user raised his hand. "Since we have an even split among gender, how about we make it a duel among boys versus girls?"

"I have no complaints with that." The white-haired girl simply said.

"I still have to team up with this loser, huh," Ash smirked as looking directly at Crow.

The fact that this punk complimented him earlier and is now making fun of him makes him wonder if he should punch his face. The slacker really can't talk back though, he did lose the battle, but he is still annoyed about being called a loser. It didn't discourage him, though, not with the smirk that was on display.

"At least I wasn't the first one to go down."

The delinquent clicked his tongue and turned away.

"Now, now, you two." Musse moved in between the Ash and Crow. "Let's all get along and have a friendly match, okay~?"

She smiled, but the tone of her voice was... terrifying. The two males gulped and nodded in agreement, joining their hands together and agreeing to work together once again.

"Musse can really be scary sometimes..." The pinkette whispered for the Vander and Black Rabbit to nod.

All six of them headed towards the ruined field before separating to their teams.

"Are ya guys ready?" Crow asked.

"Yes, sir!"

Kurt and Ash would be the front line attackers, while Crow would provide support and will only move to the front line when needed. Using his dual pistols, he would provide cover fire for the two students and assist them with arts. On the other side, Juna was the vanguard of her group, with Altina being the middle man, assisting the pinkette with her attacks and blocking any potential danger with her combat shell. Musse, just like Crow, would provide cover fire while assisting the two with her powerful arts.

They all went to their position and waited for Crow's signal.

The silence bathed the battlefield before the Chevalier raised his pistol in the air.

BANG!

"Begin!"

The light blue-haired and blonde did not hesitate to make the first move as they linked up. Swinging his varia axe to the left, forcing the pinkette to dodge only to meet the blades of Kurt. He slashed downward before being interrupted by a red beam of energy, Altina coming to Juna's rescue. The black doll swung its arm and knocked the Vander back.

The Crossbellian used her gunbreakers on the ground, creating a smokescreen.

It didn't last, however; a swirling force of the wind caused the lingering smoke to be sucked in. The light blue-haired teen created a small tornado by rotating his body. And he didn't stop there; his dual swords were coated with thunder and lightning as he rushed towards Juna. Deadly slashes made contact with her weapon; the feeling of static and electricity caught her off guard, but not as much as when Kurt leaped up, raising his swords above his head.

She knew what was going to happen next, and without thinking, she rolled to the left before the boy could deal a thunderous attack. But something unexpected happened, Musse was behind Kurt. She must have moved there when they were distracted. Her orbal rifle was charging up as she fired magical arrows through the barrel, flying towards the swordsman and bringing him down from the air.

"Gah...!"

As Ash rushed to aid his friend, Altina disabled her invisibility and blocked his path. Lunging the doll's arm towards him, the delinquent used the mechanical doll's arm as a Launchpad to send him up in the sky. He smirked, releasing the switch axe from the handle; it chained itself to the doll's arm. "Gotcha!" He lifted it and threw it across the field.

The girl was shocked, but that was the least of her problems. Without her combat shell, she could only rely on her arts to defend herself. Even though Ash was able to throw off Claiomh Solais, he wasn't able to help Kurt land safely on the ground.

"Allie, get back!" Juna shouted as she coated herself with energy. "Valkyrie Smash!"

She charged at Ash with her burning energy. The blonde couldn't stop the attack as the wind got knocked out of him before he was sent flying. The mint-haired girl followed up by firing her rifle at Ash. Unfortunately for her, Kurt got back to his feet and released dark and light energy from his sword, and fired it at the countess, forcing her to cease her firing. The punk deflected the already fired bullets before planting his feet on the ground.

Crow was just standing idle on the field, watching as the students fought against each other, thinking...

"Hey! Are you just gonna stand there, or are you gonna help?!" Ash barked, still focus on evading the recovered combat shell and Juna's attacks.

"Heh, don't worry. I know what to do now." With a smirk, he fired directly at the pinkette's blind spot, which caused her to stumble. Altina was covered in blue runes; she cast Adamantine Shield on her friend before commanding her doll.

"Fragarach! Activate!"

The mechanical arm morphed into a sharp blade and attempted to cut Ash down. Using the handle of his weapon, he blocked the attack, but the weight of the doll's arm was too much for him to handle. He was pushing back the assailant so hard his hands turned white.

But a hero would always save the day, or at least that's what he said. Silver blades appeared from above and attacked the black machine; the punk took this opportunity to stop blocking and unleash an onslaught of attacks. He repeatedly attacked the machine with his axe before chaining it up and swinging it around the field, throwing it across the field once again. Altina was already getting ready to cast her attack; as she felt a sting on her hand. Crow aimed at her ARCUS, causing it to be knocked out of her grasp.

Ash jumped up and snatched her ARCUS before landing safely on the ground. Axe pointed at her head; a smirk that said it all. Checkmate.

Juna wasn't gonna go down that easily; she cast Chrono Drive on herself and ran towards the Chevalier. Firing her gunbreakers at him as he tried to dodge them. Blue runes appeared on him, but before he could do anything else. Doing the dirty little trick Crow did earlier, she fired at his ARCUS and knocked it up in the air.

"Dammit!"

Knowing that the temporary instructor was a capable art user, she did not want to take any chances. Placing her gunbreakers together, she fired a charge shot at the ARCUS, causing a small explosion.

And Crow's reaction was not... too pleasant.

"My contacts!" He yelled, dropping his guns as he fell on his knees.

Kurt and Musse also witnessed this and paused for a bit. They, in particular, have great respect for the Azure Chevalier. So it was a surprise to see him act this way about something like his ARCUS contacts. He must not know that his contacts could be restored even if his ARCUS was destroyed.

Seeing his depressed state, they gazed at each other and continued their battle. Musse fired her magic bullet, and Kurt dodged them effortlessly. It was a stalemate; she couldn't land a hit while he couldn't get close enough to hit her. He couldn't rely on his Twilit Blade because he knew she could dodge it easily. But he also knew that she couldn't perform any of her crafts since it will take some time before she can fire them.

It was a test of tenacity and creativity, and both of them came up with a plan. She continued to fire her magic bullets at the boy but also started to cast an art while he was distracted dodging, and deflecting her assault. The Vander was going to bet it all in one strike; he stopped and jumped as he crossed his blades together. Lightning and thunder surrounded him, and with a cry, he released the energy throughout his body.

Kicking the ground, he rushed in towards Musse. She panicked for a bit but kept her cool. She used this opportunity to cast her art and charge up her rifle.

"Diamond Nova!"

Snow started to fall around the young swordsman and slowly encase him in a frozen prison. Musse admired her work as a giggle slipped out of her lips. She aimed at the frozen Kurt, a magical circle formed in front of her barrel with energy shaped like an arrow took shape.

"Forgive me for this kind of tactic, Kurt," Musse started, a sad smile present on her visage. "But sometimes a girl has to do what needs to be done. Do forgive me." She winked. "Fire!"

With a pull of a trigger, the magical arrows were released from their magical hold and were sent flying towards the Vander. The attack caused an explosion, freeing Kurt from his icy prison but being blasted from the field in the process. He tried to stand up, but it was useless; getting hit from that range proved to be more dangerous than he thought.

'I'm sorry, Instructor, Ash. I'll leave the rest... to you two.' He was knocked out cold on the ground.

After making sure her opponent was not getting up, she turned towards the two males and began firing at them. Forcing them even further back, it was quite a sight to see the two being put to a corner. It didn't end there though, Juna came rushing in with several blows, forcing them to dodge her attacks and giving them no time to counter.

The white and blonde looked into each other's eyes and nodded. Crow fired a barrage of bullets at them, which made the two girls fall back, but it didn't end there. With a swing from his axe, Ash created an improvised smokescreen near them. "Now, Armbrust!"

"You don't have to tell me twice!" Azure runes covered the Chevalier, a flaming orb was forming from his hand, and as if he commanded it, it was sent flying towards the smoke and not directly at the girls. The two thought he missed, but it was actually what he had intended. The fire mixed in with the smokescreen created a smog-like fog in the field; this forced the two to cover their eyes and prevented them from breathing freely.

Musse took out her ARCUS and began casting her arts. She wouldn't get the chance to do so, though, not with a shadow behind her. She turned around and started to fire; her aim was off due to the smog, but by the sound, it was likely deflected.

"Musse, I'm gonna try something! I need you to keep them off of me as much as you can!"

"Okay!" Musse continued to fire, using her instincts in determining their positions.

Juna gathered all of her remaining energy at her chest, heat welling up inside her. Red energy surrounding her form as she lets out a cry. "Burning Heart!" Taking her fighting stance, she turned a full 180-degree spin, clearing the smog and revealing the enablers. "Sorry, you two. But we won't go down without a fi—"

Juna stopped upon seeing what Crow had in hand. It seems he wasn't going to hold back anymore; he finally took out his double saber and was already in his fighting stance. The two sensed a different aura exuding from the Crow, one that sent shivers down their spine. His face was unreadable. The only sign they could go by is the smile he had on his countenance.

"You destroyed my ARCUS... and for that, I'll have to pay you back tenfold." It was a childish reason but the serious expression he had proved to them that he was not joking. "Let's dance."

In an instant, he quickly closed the gap and swung. Musse was able to dodge it while Juna barely manages to block his heavy swing. Ash followed by releasing his axe towards the mind; the chained scythe was heading towards her. She was able to change its course by firing several bullets at it. Ash clicked his tongue before rushing towards her instead. He already knew that the direct approach would be more effective.

The Crossbellian and slacker traded blows, swinging their weapons at each other. Juna could feel her shoulders starting to get heavy. She never knew that a double saber had so much weight. Even worse, she was being pushed back as she tried her best to stay on the ground.

"Haaaaaaaa!" Letting out a battle cry, she began pushing back Crow until she was able to break free from the struggle. Without wasting any movement, she low kicked the man, causing him to fall. But Crow wouldn't go down that easily.

He pushed back the ground with his palm so hard, keeping himself from hitting the dirt.

As the two continued the battle, Musse was still keeping Ash at a fair distance, occasionally, her bullets would graze him, but it did little to effect his movements. Her only option to effectively restrain Ash was to use arts. She started casting again while maintaining her distance, firing bullets at his feet to force him to dodge. Ash's face morphed into one of frustration, starting to get annoyed at the countess.

Taking a huge leap back, he took out syringe-like darts from his pockets. And with a devilish smile, he fired them at Egret.

Bad. It was her immediate thought. Firing at the darts one by one to protect herself. It was no use though, there were too many for her to deflect. Two darts managed to graze her shoulder and leg, a bit of blood can be seen. She winced in pain but her rifle was still aimed at the delinquent.

But before she could fire at him, Ash ran forward and disarmed her. Pointing the tip of his scythe at her neck, her defeat was inevitable.

"Game over, Egret."

"It would seem so. Incredible work, Ash."

"Heh. You never make it easy. It was a pain in the ass dealing with your arts, you know." He helped her get back up and guided her towards the bleachers where Altina and Kurt were resting. Altina probably assisted Kurt while they were fighting. It was a good idea; it would be bothersome if he was caught in a bigger attack than the one Musse used on him.

"Hey, old-timer. You got this, right?"

"I'm only 22, you bastard!" Crow snapped back without looking at Ash. He and Juna were still trading blows, but the two were now visibly exhausted. He smiled and glanced towards the blonde. His face said it all. Leave it to me.

He cracked a smile and headed towards the bleachers.

His attention returned to Juna as he felt her gunbreakers slammed themselves on his saber. She put more force into her blows; he didn't expect that. What surprised him even further was when she continued to switch from her striker and gunner form. Unlike her, he had to actually switch his weapons up. Unfortunately, he couldn't find an opening to do so. He really wanted to use his pistols right about now.

Switching from striker, Juna fired bullets at him. The white-haired man was able to deflect it all, but he soon figured out what her real intentions were. She switches back to striker; her body was coated in energy. He knows where this is going.

"Valkyrie Charge!"

Juna charged at Crow and bashed herself towards him. She could hear the air knocked out of him. She was sure she had the victory on this one. But being the tricky bastard that he is, Crow wrapped his arms around Juna as she attacked him. Juna was flustered for a second but quickly regained her composure, trying her best to break free.

He smirked; using the force from her attack, he threw the pinkette across the field. She came tumbling down; she felt as if she got hit with her attack. But she wasn't going to give up just yet; she combined her gunbreakers and charged them up, firing a large ball of energy in his direction.

Crow was trying to catch his breath when his eyes widened at the ball of energy. In a flash, it exploded.

...

Silence filled the field; Juna wasn't stupid, though. If she lets her guard down, she's finished. She was sore all over, but she can't let that stop her from achieving victory. With gunbreakers at the ready, she prepared herself to step forward.

Amidst the aftermath of the explosion, her optics caught a glint of steel. It looks as if the shine was getting larger, no, wait. It was heading towards her!

Cutting through the smoke was Crow's double saber, flying across the field, spinning and coming through with a ridiculous speed. Juna positioned herself to block as it came closer. When steel hit steel, the fatigue she accumulated was the deciding factor on which one would win. The weight of the blade was too much as her weapons were knocked out of her hand.

Crow emerged from the explosion, bloody all over but still alive and kicking. He rushed in and fired warning shots before closing the gap between them. Pointing his pistols at her head, a blank expression was present on his visage.

"Give up?"

Juna chuckled and raised her arms. "Yup. I give up."

As if a switch has been flipped, Crow flopped his ass on the dirt floor, and a sigh of relief came out of him. "Finally! Geez, that took longer than I thought."

The rest of New Class VII came to see the two with Linde in tow. She gasped upon seeing Crow's condition; the fact he took the attack head-on and was still able to come out on top really showed how durable he was. She still scolded him, though, for being so reckless. Unlike the Azure Chevalier, Juna's injuries weren't as serious, but Linde did find a few broken bones to Juna's shock. The adrenaline must have kept her from noticing.

With the help of Musse and Altina, they were able to minimize the pinkette's injuries. She was still properly treated for her broken bones when they go to the clinic with Crow. Speaking of the idiot, not only was he bleeding badly, but his ribs were broken! Even more so than Juna's! A normal person would have been crying in anguish if they tried to move, but this guy was as fast as ever and only winced at the pain. If it weren't for the arts, he would have been in critical condition by now.

"Just how the hell are you so durable?!" Ash yelled at him in disbelief. "You took a direct hit from Juna's attack, and you were able to close the gap almost instantaneously! Like how the hell does that even work?! Shouldn't you be crying in pain? Like really in pain?"

"Well, sorry for being durable." The slacker tried to get up but was instantly back on the ground, his back lying on the dirt floor as he winced in pain. "Maybe I should have cast some defensive art..."

All eyes were on him at that moment. All of them wondering how... how in the world was he able to survive without casting any defensive art!? Usually, one would be knocked out cold if hit with a blast like that, but it seems it doesn't apply to someone like Crow.

"A-anyway, we need to get you to the infirmary!" Linde helped Crow stand up and hung his arm around her shoulder. She was surprisingly strong. "Can one of you boys help me with Crow?"

"I would like to help," Kurt placed his hand on his chest. "Is that alright with you, Ash?"

The delinquent just shrugged. "Yeah. I already helped this guy twice. I think I deserve a break."

Crow chuckled and nodded. Despite their bickering, the two did make a good team. With Ash's answer heard, Kurt threw Crow's other arm around his shoulder and helped carry him towards the infirmary, with Juna following the three.

"Thanks, Linde. And thanks, Kurt, for carrying me." Crow laid his back on the comfy bed, his body covered with bandages, though only visible if he took off his undershirt. "My body feels like shit."

Kurt sweatdropped. "You are welcome, Instructor. But try not to be that reckless in the future."

"My ribs are shattered and I feel reeeally light-headed."

"And who's fault was that?" Linde said as she wrapped bandages around Juna.

"Juna's."

"Hey! It's not my fault you still kept going after you were hit!"

"Yeah, that's true." Crow quickly conceded to the surprise of the three.

After Linde finished patching up Juna, she double-checked her condition before nodding contently. She then looked towards Crow and sighed. She knew it would take more time for him to heal, but at least he could still walk normally, albeit; an occasional wince would slip out.

The rest of Class VII entered the infirmary to check on the two. Ash immediately let out a snicker as he saw the bandaged Crow with him earning a glare from the slacker.

The others talked for a bit while checking on the patients before a knocking sound interrupted them. Towa entered the room and gasped as she saw Crow's bandaged form. She obviously scolded him on his recklessness before quickly remembering why she was here.

"Crow. The principal wants to have a quick chat with you. She said it's not about work but something else that you might find interesting."

"Gimme a break..." He begrudgingly got up from the bed as he rubbed the back of his neck. "See you kiddies in a bit."

The slacker with Towa helping him exited the room.

"Guys... I have a question." Juna's voice grabbed the attention of the others. "Can Crow's contacts be transferred to another ARCUS II unit...?"

The others began the laugh at that, with Juna asking what's funny, slightly embarrassed. They weren't laughing because they were making fun of her, but because they knew she would bring it up eventually. She was the one who destroyed his ARCUS, after all. Altina provided a satisfying answer. Juna smiled and laid her back on the bed; she yawned as her eyelids started to get heavy.

Juna fell asleep while the others conversed with each other quietly about what occurred today.

It took some time due to his injuries, but Crow and Towa arrived in front of Aurelia's office.

He grabbed the doorknob and was ready to enter when he noticed Towa not taking a step. "You comin' with?"

She shook her head. "No. You're the one the principal wants to talk to, it would be rude if I was there with you."

"Okay..." He turned the doorknob and went in.

His crimson eyes fell on the Rakshasa, writing something on a piece of paper. He walked and greeted her as he took his seat without waiting for her permission. He didn't mean to come across as rude, but walking here and just standing was a pain for him. Literally.

"So what do you want to talk about?"

"To put it simply, some information and news you might find interesting."

"Oh?"

Towa was standing near the door as she waited for Crow, she couldn't hear what they were saying, but she definitely wasn't eavesdropping. She stayed behind so she could escort Crow back to the infirmary without him injuring himself. There was a good amount of silence as she waited. Suddenly, she heard a "WHAT?!" inside of the root; it then morphed into a cackle from the Azure Chevalier. She could barely make out the words, but she heard something like 'his face' and 'lovebirds'.

Towa's cheeks had pink hues upon hearing the latter. She walked towards the room in front of her and waited there instead.

"I'll give him a call later then. If your acquaintance is right, then he should really know about this." Crow said as he stood up from his seat.

"I appreciate your cooperation, Armbrust. And about the other thing, we talked about..."

"Yeah?"

"We're still short on staff even after her arrival. I would appreciate it if you would at least come once a week for Soldat Training."

The slacker cupped his chin, thinking about his decision. By the time Rean comes back, his injuries might already be healed. And he doesn't really want to turn down the Le Guin of all people. He sighed and nodded his head. "Sure. I can at least do that much."

"Perfect. You have my thanks."

Crow nodded again before leaving the room.

And then I remembered my ARCUS was busted. Luckily, they said my contacts could be transferred, but it would take a while to find another ARCUS. When I got my ARCUS... I was waiting for you to call, man! I thought by the time I got my contacts transferred, you two already fucked!

"W-wait! We didn't do anything like that!" Rean said in protest.

"...we were about to." Fie mumbled.

"Fie!"

Ahah! Couldn't you two have done it a lot sooner? You've been dating for a while now; I thought you'd be getting it on once you finally see each other~.

"Shut it, Crow." The couple snapped back at the wounded Chevalier.

Rean sighed as he placed his hand on his head. He felt like a headache would be coming after hearing all of that from Crow. Fighting Principal Aurelia with Soldats, the unexpected chemistry Ash and Crow actually have, the girls versus boys bout, how Juna destroyed Crow's ARCUS, and how Crow was still as lively as ever despite his injuries. The instructor felt like his head was spinning from all of that.

He looked back at Crow as he asked him something. "Was the talk you had with the principal related to me somehow?" Rean started to put the pieces together.

Yeah. You need to hear this.

He gulped as he prepared himself for the news. A comforting touch eased his nerves as he felt his hand being hold. He looked to see Fie, smiling, her eyes telling him: I'm right here, you don't have to worry.

Rean returned the smile and looked back at Crow. Only for him to see the Chevalier grinning like a mad man.

I feel like you want me to see your moments~.

"T-that's not... whatever. Let's just hear about what the principal told you." He conceded.

Got it.

Crow paused for a bit; whether it was for dramatic effect or not, the two didn't care about that.

Your master— Yun Ka-Fai, was last spotted near the mountains of Longlai. One of Le Guin's acquaintances said they spotted him during their trip to the mountains. They just saw him taking a stroll there, they didn't have much to go on about, but they are positive it was him.

The news surprised Rean. His chest tightened as he finally obtained a hint to his master's whereabouts. "Thanks for telling me this, Crow."

Heh, it wasn't a problem.

"And sorry for getting mad at you earlier. That was uncalled for."

"Seconded that. You actually had a good reason for calling, sorry for getting pissed at you." The bracer added.

Water under the bridge. Just name your kid after me, and we're good~. The two rolled their eyes and chuckled at that. I'll leave you guys to do your business now. See ya— oh, I almost forgot! I need to talk to Fie about something.

The pair raised their brows and looked at each other.

"Alone?" Rean asked.

Yup.

"Oh..." Rean grabbed his ARCUS and gave it to Fie. "Here, Fie."

"Is it important?"

Actually, yeah it is. I think you'll want to hear about it.

"Kay." The silver-haired girl got up from her seat and headed towards the door. "I'll be back soon, Rean." She smiled.

"Yeah." He smiled back. And again, he felt the snicker of his friend on the other line.

Seriously, can you two stop being cute for just one second~? You're making me jealous here.

"And can you please stop teasing us because of every little thing we do?" Rean pleaded, a blush forming on his face.

...maybe.

"Let's just go, Crow."

The bracer exited out of the room, leaving Rean alone as he drank some of the tea that was still in the pot.

...

Fifteen minutes passed, and Fie still hasn't returned to the room. Curious as to why, Rean leaned closer to the door and cupped his ear, thinking the two might have been talking just outside the room. And as if on cue, Fie returned to the room to see her lover trying to eavesdrop on her conversation. She smirked and gave him a knowing look.

"I have no excuse," Rean admitted quickly.

"At least you were honest." Her smirk grew wider. "Relax, you're not in trouble. We didn't talk about you... technically."

"Technically? So, what did you guys talk about?"

"She shook her head and shrugged. "Can't say. Crow told me I can't tell you yet. I can say it's related to bracer business."

"That only makes me more curious..." He got up from the floor and set up the futons. He smiled as he placed the two futons together, making it look like one big bed. Nodding in satisfaction, he glanced back at Fie, who was lying on the floor, her legs and arms stretched out. "Feeling sleepy, Fie?"

"Yeah..." She yawned as she sat up. "Listening to Crow's report and his talk with me drained a lot of my energy"

"I guess we should sleep then." He smiled as he turned off the lights.

"Guess so." Returning his smile as she jumped at their makeshift master bed. "But you know what would make my energy come back?"

"What?" He laid on their bed as he asked.

He immediately figured out what she meant by that the moment he saw her dewy eyes and the pink tint on her cheeks. He wasn't as dense that he wouldn't notice the signs she was giving. Rean couldn't help but chuckle but was quickly silenced by Fie's lips. The instructor ended up being pinned under her. A catlike grin accompanied the catlike girl.

Rean smiled the widest he was able to, stroking the girl's silver mane. The scent of her hair was making him lose his mind, and they used the same shampoo!

But before things would get too intimate, Fie spoke.

"I know you'll be looking for your master tomorrow..."

"Oh... H-how did you know?"

"C'mon, Rean. I know you better than anyone by now." She answered, her gaze was piercing yet gentle. "Just promise me you won't put yourself at risk, okay?"

"Fie..." He sat up as Fie moved to let him do so. He gently stroked her hair as he pulled her for a hug. She relaxed at his touch. She doesn't want him getting hurt, but she knows he has to do this. It would be selfish to keep him from looking for the person who taught him the very basis of his strength. "I promise not to put myself in danger. I can't let myself break that other promise after all."

"You better keep them then." She chuckled.

She was so close and so warm. He could feel her heartbeat because of how close they were. He swore he would protect her, not just for the sake of Rutger, not just because he was her boyfriend, but because he was deeply in love with the girl. And he would do anything for her.

Rean pulled back slightly to see her blushing face. He cupped her cheeks and smiled, leaning forward and pressing his lips with hers. Being caught off guard had its benefits in these kinds of situations, she completely melted from his smooch. Her arms wrapped around his neck as she pulled for a deeper kiss.

The two pulled each other apart, a string of saliva could be seen. It didn't matter, though, as the two kissed again. Rean was pinned down once again as the two kissed; it wasn't as long as the first one as Fie pulled back first. She couldn't stop a smile from forming. She pressed her forehead against his; a sweet and gentle voice slipped out of her that made his heart flutter.

"I love you."

"I love you too, Fie."

She giggled as she began taking off her robe. Rean's face went incredibly red but tried to keep his cool by doing the same.

The two were able to finally express how much they missed each other that night. They hoped they weren't too loud and disturbed the other guests staying at the inn. Then again, both of them didn't really care. They were just so happy to be together. The lovers fell asleep together; Fie cuddled her knight as if he was a teddy bear. And Rean? It would have been better if his hand was around her hair, but just like his luck with misunderstandings, his hand was in a spot where he normally would be slapped if the one he was touching was not his girlfriend.

The petite girl knew and already planned to tease him about it tomorrow. But for now, they would enjoy their remaining days together.
