Chapter 3: Consequences of Human Laziness Pt.1

Right, I've got a baker's dozen bodies ready to pop. Should I let a few go? No, that would only lead to outing the hive. For now, haunted refinery. With that in mind, fifteen new chest-bursters spring forth from their incubators, screeching to their little heart's content.

Moving them back to the Queen's chamber, the nanitics start moving around ovomorphs and shifting around crates. The little guys get settled in, and I set them down the path to becoming drones. It's a bit of a gamble, but if my nanitics can keep them in communications blackout, there shouldn't be much of a problem. Hmmm.

I guess that's because I haven't evolved him yet. It's just that as he is now, he still fits in the vents. I know that the second he's developed, he'll be larger than a queen.

I'm going to have my hands full; I don't even know if this is the only city on the planet, let alone if this is the only colonized planet in the system. But short-term goals are best… I wonder if Xenomorphs can steer ships… questions for later. Once my fifteen drones are done, I'll send the nanitics to scout out more regions.

You know, I'm noticing a distinct lack of security forces kicking down the refineries door… looking through the town, I'm shocked to find its people going about their lives without a care. Did… did they really give no fucks about twenty-two people disappearing in the course of like three days? Fuck it, if they're not worried, neither will I. The longer they take, the better prepared I can be. Setting the nanitics to patrol, I settle down to fast forward.

Over the next three day's no less than a dozen additional civilians wander into the refinery. Leaving me with twenty-seven chest-bursters, the last of which's timer just finished. Selecting all of them, I press the evolve button. Twenty-seven drones… in one button push… I'm so happy right now. The nanitics are sent to quite literally scout the rest of the world while the drones start spreading hive material in the refinery. You know, body restraining rooms, digging some murder holes, and a nice comfortable chamber for Queen Daisy.

Sixteen days… these dumb bastards have let me do my thing without challenge for sixteen days…

Well, alrighty then.

Well then… in the words of my favorite Russian Disney villain… In the dark of the night, evil will find you. Like that, all of my facehuggers scatter out into the colony. It's around midnight my little cuddle-monsters work their way into the houses of the sleeping citizens. Now, I bet you are wondering why not have your Xenomorphs carry them back to the nest? Well, that's easy to answer because a face-hugger renders its victim unconscious for upwards of several hours. Therefore while my victims are aided in their sleep, my drones drag people back as quickly as possible.

There were some close calls a patrol of security forces needed to be put down and dragged away, but in the end, I had over a hundred people glued to my walls. If one or two more nights go this well, and I'll be able to launch my all-out assault before you know it.

As for reconnaissance, I've got something like a quarter of the world in my sight.

Two days after the fact and… Nothing these dumb bastards. Alright fuck it, they've pissed me off. I open the hive count menu.

Oh… yeah. Alright, so time to check the Drone evolution. {Warrior: 3-Days STR: high SPD: average HP: high / Spitter: 4-Days STR: average SPD: average HP: low}

First, hatch the eggs... All of the three hundred and sixty-four face-huggers were freed and ready to cause some chaos. I order them to spread out into the colony only using alleys, vents, and sewers. I sequester off fifty drones and set them to evolve into warriors.

Hmm, everyone's set up… but do I want to wait for the warriors, It's hard to delineate preparedness and impatience sometimes. I don't want to let them get too smart so I send twenty some odd drones set to {passive} and {stealth} to ramp up my earlier sabotage. They start taking out power couplings damaging air filters tripping security motion sensors where there are no cameras or destroying cameras. With their communications still thoroughly down this is definitely starting to cause some panic. This however doesn't seem to have reached the civilian population the colony's security forces and other higher-ups seem to be keeping a tight lid on what's going on. Now that I think about it this is likely why there wasn't more panic over the people disappearing at the refinery. Maybe they're worried about rebels or terrorists or something. I keep forgetting that xenomorphs are as common knowledge in the wider universe than you'd think. Survivors of the various interactions with them are usually swept up by Wayland-Yutani. Hell… I don't even know the date. Alright, I leave most of the facehuggers in position. I decide to just take another thirty civilians starting with the poor and homeless.

That worked far too well… the people in charge of this place are starting to piss me off. Hmm. I opened the menu for the colony.

[New Carthage]

Population: 2396

Development: minimal

Combat Readiness: negligible +

Looks like they're raising their combat readiness but well it's still negligible. Actually looking over the colony this rise in combat readiness seems to have taken the form of more patrols in some of the few richer parts of the colony. Though… negligible plus implies the existence of a negligible minus… I wonder what that would look like. They'd probably be throwing themselves at me. Anyway, I love the drones to keep them on their toes while I wait for the warriors and chestbursters to 'hatch'. I think I'll do a few more of these small raids at least until I have enough facehuggers for at least half of the colony. Will this objective take a while? Yes. Will it be worth it in the long run? Also yes. Because this will give me more time to make more warriors to assist with the final assault. If all goes to plan the only humans to make it out of this valley will be infected with chestbursters to carry to other colonies.
