Tate McCrae- That Way
"You followed me?" Mac complained as she strode away from him along the beach. "I say I can't hook up with you, so you take up stalking?"
Dick shrugged as he checked out the way the her yellow summer dress clung to her curves in all the places he'd spent countless hours imagining running his hands. "I didn't expect you to turn down blowing me off to go booty-texting some old guy... unless you got cuttle-fished because I saw that junkyard crap heap he drove in here with!"
Mac pursed her lip and took a deep inhale, glad she didn't have an audience for their lovers spat.
Lovers...
Ever since the previous week when she'd agreed to meet him at the Serenity Inn, his eagerness to pick up where they'd left off was getting out of hand. She had agreed to a regular room at the nearby hotel so he would stop taking his chances calling to her dorm when Parker would be out distributing drink testers at campus parties with the girls from Lilith House.
But now his seduction was everywhere.
Like Thursday when he sabotaged the computer equipment in the Spellman Auditorium knowing she was on afternoon IT services duty and they'd had sex on the TA's desk, mere hours after both sitting in that very room attending a guest lecture of their Intro to Ethics for business class.
Now she struggled to think of anything else during those presentations.
"He's my dad!" Mac exclaimed. Seeing Dick's not so subtle attempts at espionage at the restaurant had been very distracting while she had been meeting with her father for dinner to give him the part's Weevil's uncle had picked up for her dad yesterday. Papa Mario's had always been a Mackenzie family favorite and Dick's crown of blond hair and pink shirt was unmistakable as he'd shifted around trying to get a better vantage point while making disasterous attempts at hiding behind a menu. It gave her a deep appreciation for the Mars family skills at keeping their spying undetectable.
Her mother was out of town with her brother collecting Grandpa Roland Mackenzie to take up residence in her former bedroom and it was supposed to be some relaxing father-daughter bonding time, instead she'd spent the entire meal terrified he was going to make some elaborate cliche movie worthy scene in the middle of the restaurant. Thankfully her father got a last minute call from her mother about arriving back earlier than expected so she gladly waved her father off before Dick revealed himself.
"You never call me Daddy..." Dick grumbled petulantly. "No wonder you like calling me Richard..."
"Are you drunk?" she asked. The question irked him because it held a bitter truth he didnt want to think about.
Since his little brothers death, and probably long before since the slaying of his friend Lily Kane, Dick had found himself more and more reaching for a bottle, only now... he found himself reaching more and more for her.
The need to have Cindy Mackenzie bordered on pathological but he couldn't help himself.
Addiction was the monster we found in ourselves after all... and this one was hungry for every piece of her.
"I'm just saying... He's a little cheap, look at this place" he said ignoring her question and hinting at the small diner. A quick twenty minute walk from campus and just off the beach, it was a popular area with students and those on a budget, he remembered Betina was super thrilled when he brought her once after surfing during the summer before senior year of high school. Mac's cheeks looked flushed as she gave a self-conscious look around them, stepping closer twirling a bit of her dyed blue hair around his finger.
The places he wanted to take her were a thousand times nicer than this, especially with that Emma Stone in La La Land-esque dress he'd been watching her in all evening.
There were a thousand places he could think of discarding that pretty yellow dress too.
"Boundaries, come on we talked about this after the thing with you naked and covered in rose petals in the server room!" she reasoned stepping closer. That disaster had almost ruined hundreds of thousands worth of equipment.
"If you have to suffer Old Guy Balls.. it's better if the guy has a decent bank balance or at least a 401K.. That dude is an awful choice when I am Prime Rib and I have HUGE Bank balance and and an even bigger..." he rambled jealously.
"DICK!" She snapped shooing away his hand. "He's not my Lay, he's the Darth Vader to my Leia! That's my FATHER!"
"And you didn't introduce me..." he said in amusement and more than a bit relieved. Dick still wasn't sure why he'd cancelled his plans with Chip and the rest of his frat brothers tonight to investigate where Mac had gone after seeing her walk across campus earlier looking so dressed up.
Had he purposely wanted to rile her up to see if it would ignite something more between them after seeing how close conflict always left Logan and Veronica? Why couldn't he just bring himself to say outright how much he wanted to date this girl without it feeling all this between them would just... slip away if he tried?
Did it make sense that her refusal to introduce him to her father stung a little?
"I guess it's just as well, I'm not sure he would have appreciated how much seeing you like this..." Dick said as he ran a finger along the buttons fastening her chest as she felt her chest tighten as Mac visibly swallowed. "Makes me want to hike up your pretty dress, tear off your panties and eat you like a 10 course buffet right here on the hood of my car."
Mac swallowed hard, startling when she realised that they were indeed now standing right at his car.
"There's a reason I save you as Mac, My Snacc..." he whispered against her ear before nibbling softly on the lobe causing a shiver to run through to her core as he opened the passenger side door his blue eyes ordering her inside.
They'd spent the rest of the night parked on a secluded spot a few miles outside Neptune he'd found in High School, the top rolled down, her perky breasts in his mouth, with her pretty dress hiked up around her waist, his hands on her hips and him buried deep inside her, his seat turned positioned right back while she rode him, one of the hottest nights of his life. By the time he'd dropped her off at the dorms, her legs a little shaky, lips swollen from his kisses and those sexy colored streaks adorably disheveled in her dark hair, he'd decided then and there, he would win her over.
Dick had still been thinking about the way Mac had moaned his name over and over, her head resting on his shoulder, face damp from the perspiration of their lovemaking and her pussy fluttering around his length as every thrust sent her deeper over that edge.
He'd almost sworn she was going to confess her feelings for him that night but instead Mac had smoothed down her pretty dress, borrowed a bandana one of his surfing buddies had left in the back of his car to cover up the hicky he'd gifted her neck and kissed him goodnight. The first night he'd worn her out thoroughly at Serenity Inn and she'd been too tired to check out and drive back across Neptune, instead curling up against him to sleep after her brief shower had felt like biggest victory.
The day after Veronica and Logan came back from their boat trip to Catalina. They had joined him and Cindy as a proper couple for lunch with all of her friends. It had felt like the first real breath he'd taken since Deputy Sachs knocked on his hotel door and they'd told him about Beeves.
Sitting in hospital like this, sober for far too long, isolated, he felt exposed, restless.
That night outside Papa Mario's had been a full moon like this, a few months ago. Quite possibly the very night she had conceived their baby.
Perhaps it was fitting that the moon had a sanguine appearance tonight. The ruddy-hue only added to Dick's sense of unease.
Blood Moons meant sacrifice.
In Ancient Hindu's it represented the Rahu's evil prevailing against the Sun God Surya and the Moon God Chandra who had cutting off Rahu's head to dispel his nefarious influences but the head was in perpetual motion chasing the light of the Sun and Moon in a revenge-fuelled attempt to snuff out the good forever. They called it the Bloody Moon.
That line between balance vs chaos was so powerful and feared that The Blood Moon King myth he'd always favoured in Mesopotamian culture, the moral of the story was always said that these were times to surrender to change in our lives, to face it fearlessly and never run from the consequences... Unlike the Blood Moon King who was often a fake or imposter held out in the open like a sacrificial lamb while the true king in cowardice all his cowardice, hide away rather than face exposure.
As a kid, Dick had loved that story... of the smart King fooling his enemies but really it was a foreshadowing... of his father absconding from his own Empire to hide from the consequences of his actions.
Dick regretted not adding his ex-girlfriend to the no-visitation list after listening to her rant about her father refusing to pay for a room in the Neptune Grand for her during extended leave from San Diego State due to her roommates murder.
"I don't need this right now, this trip home has been a disaster. My ex-boyfriend was murdered and then my roommate and despite the fact I put up with you all summer... when I need you... you go and get yourself shot. Then you get pissy at me visiting yesterday because your college trash pile reject of a slam piece got jealous and wont talk to you... yet your forget I am the only one who picked up your calls." Madison snarled crossing her arms.
"Next time I'll use nerf for your convenience" Dick said rolling his eyes refusing to budge on her attempt at manipulating him into paying for her room instead.
"He has been unreasonable ever since I made him send that car back he got me for my birthday. It stank like a sushi bar!" she retorted.
"You do still have a room at your parents house." Dick shrugged.
"It's not fair! I have so many memories of Don in there, I just cant look at the pool house without getting upset. I thought if anyone could understand about not wanting to be in a literal crypt of memories, it would be you." Madison glared. "I mean, isnt that why you chose On Campus housing? I look around at the walls in my room at home and I am haunted by high school. Since when did we stop belonging to each other? it's always been us. Even since we broke up, you will always be my Dick. I set you free to sow some wild oats because I loved you enough to do that... when did you stop being mine? I've had a horrible day, that awful Sheriff Mars asking me all those questions about Caitlin... as if we were actually friends or something!"
Sighing he felt his resolve waning. Not so long ago he had gotten off the phone with his realtor that errors in the paperwork had signed the property he'd purchsed over to Duke Calabasas instead of him, so he was still waiting for keys to be issued.
Dick could throw the whole screwing Logan in Aspen thing in her face, be done with it but they began dating summer before his freshman year, he lost his virginity to her, and simply indulging her tantrums had always just felt normal. They met post his parents divorce, when his dad had insisted Dick attend Fat Camp to shift the extra pounds gained during his parents court battle. Madison had always been a weakness, it was difficult to just condemn her as pure conniving evil. She had been a junior camp counsellor there helping her mother.
He'd listened to her run down plenty of girls in the past and her insecurities over the fit of her cheer uniform, he could only imagine the things she would say when she found out Mac Mackenzie was pregnant with his unborn child.
They had weathered a lot together, her eating bulimia and the drug habits occasionally made her mean. The distance between them after Lily as murdered and the secrets he kept to try be there for Logan had torn them apart in the end. His evasiveness had made her withhold sex until he confessed the big secret but of course he couldn't. Popping pills became a more regular occurrence and Madison grew furious with her father for sleeping with his secretary, he even suspected the fear of her parents dysfunctional marriage being discovered was part of the reason Madison hated Veronica so much. They had eventually broken up when she caught him flirting with a cheerleader from Pam High the weekend she blew him off again.
It wasnt in his nature to not try and brighten someones day in anyway he could. Dick had hadnt relished seeing Madison with the belated Sheriff Lamb senior year but he hated that despite the Jimmy Choos she had stomped all over his heart with, that the girl he had loved could be in pain, being at home knew Mrs Sinclair would try her best to 'be there' and that to Madison it meant limitations on her freedom to drink, get high and screw around.
#party girl problems.
Nothing made it harder to feed your addiction than an audience, and sometimes those vices were all a person had to keep themselves on their feet.
Dick knew all about being helpless and the need to silence his inner demons, some could call it enabling her habit but he really wanted her out of here before Logan or Cindy showed up, which he would know if anyone answered his calls.
Even Gia was MIA, and that almost never happened. He would.have been tempted to ask Madison if she had heard anything but she was so self-centric that nothing much caught her focus unless directly impacted on her sanitizer and heavily medicated bubble. Eventually he agreed to book a single night in the Princess Suite at the Regent if she would go and not return.
'Quit sulking over Cindyrella, Dick, it's a bad look on you.' she shrugged when he stared at his empty messages again and walked out.
