Ep2
Scene 5
A very concerned Garret enters the prison.
- Where is she ?
- Where she belongs, responds Wythers in an almost non concerned way. She is a murdered.
Wythers turns to face his son who has more to say.
- This is your way of getting at me, for returning to the Outpost ? Don't ...
- It's got nothing to do with you. But it was you who brought her behind these walls, don't you ?
(Why are you here captain ? Why would you care ?)
Wythers has quite the same question.
- Why do you care so much. You got a little thing for the tart ?
- No. I just don't want another person to die because you're wrong ... again.
(Let it go, captain. He's going to say he has the law on his side, and he does.)
- I'm not wrong this time. The evidence is undeniable. She killed Toru Magmoor.
- Magmoor was a real bastard. I can only imagine what he did to deserve what ever is was.
(Yes, Magmoor was a bastard... but, still, I'm gonna die...)
- He was a Covenant officer. It doesn't matter what else he was.
(That is precisely the best reason why he deserves to die, don't you think.)
According to Wythers, everything has been said, he serves himself a cup. But Garret isn't over.
- Can I have a moment with her ? ... Alone !
Marshal Wythers wants to make sure Garret understands how he despises his demand so he answers with a belch.
- I don't think so.
- I can pull rank, if you want, insists Garret in a whisper.
Wythers knows his son has a point ; so he gets out with Danno.
- Come on Danno... You've got till his pipe runs out.
As Garret come close to the cell, Talon pretends not to pay attention.
(A moment with me ? What makes you believe I wanna have a talk with you Garret ?)
- Hey... How are you holding on ?
No answer. Anyway, he wants to talk. But what can he say ?
- You're quite the survivor, aren't you ?
- Don't think I'll survive that thing ?
They both look at the guillotine.
(I'm screwed. Please don't insist, leave me alone... )
But he is not ready to leave yet. If only these bars were not there.
- Just tell me, why... why did you do it.
(Why should I... tell... you ... anything ?)
- What difference does it make ?
- I need to know whether I was right or wrong about you, when I brought you inside this walls... Did you do it for Gwynn.
Talon is back pretending he's not there.
- Hey, I need to know the truth. All right you owe me that much.
(Fine.)
- I'll pay for my revenge it's all that I really wanted.
Garret fells a bit of frustration rising.
- Revenge for what ? Help me to understand.
Please... go...
- Why should I tell you ?
- Because when you're dead... at least there will be somebody to remember what you died for.
- He killed my family... he and his men slaughter all the village, everyone I knew, everyone I loved.
(And I am giving you much more than I have ever given to anyone ... But I can't let you know that.)
- Why ? Why would they do that ?
- Wouldn't tell me why... Only that they were well payed... Doesn't matter now anyway. Killing an agent of the Covenant for whatever reason is death.
Shaken by what she just said, not daring to believe but fully aware of the reality of the Prime Order Garret can't hold back to express his opinion :
- Doesn't make it right.
(Who are you trying to fool captain ?)
- You're Prime Order yourself you're part of their regime.
- Things aren't always as they appear.
He has regain control of himself, his ideas are clear, and she notices the change as he adds :
- This is why we still may have a chance.
(I just accused you of being part of that hateful regime... why do you want to give me a chance ? What does it mean ?)
...
- Garret ! (I don't really know why I was acting so cold, so bitter... Sorry.) I'm sorry I let you down.
...
Scene 6
- Someone told me once you have to get them in the mouth to kill them.
She feels so satisfied helping him to get on his feet.
(Don't thank me, you saved me twice, I just saved you once. I'll make it even someday.)
