Ep5
Scene12
Talon is sleeping, after all she has to recover from an injury, again. Feeling one's hand covering her mouth is surely one of the worst ways of waking up.
Garret is showing her to be silent, her mind is instantly clear : OK. But still she whispers in a venomous tone :
- I've killed men for less.
(Captain Garret or not, you're all the same.)
- Watchmen are coming, Mistress told them you're down here.
(Maybe not all the same...)
- So she did see me.
Despite the wound she gets up, Garret is already next to her.
- Wythers gave order to kill you on sight.
- But Gwynn ?
- Now a lots of things are changing, right now Gwynn can't protect you anymore.
- Why ?
- Her father... look there's a lot to explain. I need you to go NOW.
(Thank you Garret. I know you're taking a risk... for me.)
He aims her toward the exit, but there are already men waiting for her out there and when she turns back to the cellar. Garret is already surrounded by the watchmen.
And then Wythers he's so satisfied to have his own son put the handcuffs on her.
- Put these on her, or she dies here and now.
More than reluctant, Garret can't help but tell him he's making a mistake.
- I might have said the same thing for you.
(It's a real pity seeing a father treating his own son this way. As il he enjoys torturing him.)
Slowly, Garret goes and chains Talon. At first he doesn't want to look at her although she's eager to exchange a look, before looking away too.
(I know it's hard, but are you sure you won't look at me ? Please Garret...)
But finally they're reunited again, gazing at each other with the same sadness in the eye.
That's when they put a sack on her head.
(Goodby Garret...)
Scene13
- Yo ruhu nakim (Go away now) !
And finally the Lu-Qiri obeys going back to the sewers.
Now that she did get rid of that thing she can look at Garret. She sees anger. Of course.
- What the hell was THAT ?
(Please Garret don't judge me yet.)
She catches his eyes exploring her wound on her hand, understanding that this can only be her blood, her blackblood.
(The story of my life...)
- Talon are you...
- Garret...
(What can I say ?)
- All those murders, was that you ? You and that... thing ?
- I can't control her. If I could I would never let her hurt people.
- But it just now obeyed you.
- I've been learning ... It's the first time I've done that, I think it's because I've spoken my ancestor's language.
Apparently, Garret is having a hard time believing her, or maybe just understanding her. She reckons that's probably not easy as she hardly can make eye contact with him.
(Please don't look at me like this. It really hurts.)
And she looks away, toward Wythers.
- So what now ?
(Cause nothing is over, isn't it ?)
Wythers is having a hard time regaining his composure after being « puppetized » by the Lu Qiri. One shot of whatever alcool is would probably not be enough.
- Your blackblood, is that why you can control it ?
- Something like that.
- That's why the Prime Order wants you so badly.
She can see that Garret's curiosity is awaken by his fathers deduction. And she doesn't want to go further.
- You have to let me go
- Why should I ?
- Because I am the only one who has any chance to rid us of this thing.
(I'm talking to you Garret, believe me, I'm not the threat, I may be the solution.)
But, even if is still shocked, Wythers has something else in mind he need to know.
- 'One remain'. Is that you or that demon.
Again Garret is taken by surprise by the question, and it's to him that Talon gives her response.
- It's me.
(Can you imagine what is it to be the last one, Garret ?)
- I'm the one, there's many more Lu Qiri... what you call demons.
Finally able to stand up, Wythers faces her and gives her order to make it go away... and to leave the Outpost.
No reaction from Garret, as hard as it is, this time he can't honestly say that his father is wrong. This doesn't go unnoticed from Talon.
- Yes.
And she walk away without even a single look to Garret.
(Surely you might just hate me now...)
Scene14
She has cards on her hands, she's very closed to tore them apart. Looking elsewhere, obviously wishing she had another life. And then Garret comes to seat in front of her. She can't run away but she doesn't really want to talk to him now. She can't go further than a single « What ? »
He take his time to answer, studying her, looking more concerned than anything and with so much... gentleness. Maybe she doesn't notice.
- What didn't you tell me ? About what you are ?
(You can't understand Garret, it's always the same reactions.)
- Cause I'm still the same person.
Does she notice how he keeps his voice soft and concerned ?
- You're not though, are you ?... I mean after everything I've done to help you. (True, you did save me) You should have told me.
- Why ?
Her face, her voice have scarcely sadden.
- Now you know the real me I disgust you ? (Do you think that's what I want ?)
- No... I don't know what to think. All right you control this creature, this thing that is killing people. I am responsible for the saf...
- I do not control it.
(I've already told you, can't you believe me ?)
And it seems hard to believe.
- Did you tell Gwynn ?
- Yeah, I told her that Wythers let you go. But I didn't told her how it happened
- Did she tell you why she turned on me. Why suddenly she was all to happy to let the marshal cut off my head ?
She's quite surprise herself how bitter she sounds.
- All I can tell you is that... (searching for the right words Garret ?)... she didn't have much of a choice.
- I get it. She was saving her own skin.
Some agitation makes them turn heads and forget a moment about Gwynn. On the background mercenaries are bullying the costumers, especially the women, manipulating them like they would do for animals...
- What are they doing ? asks Garret
- Checking hears.
(And I don't want to talk about this.)
- Those are the Bones, aren't they ? The men who killed your family ?
(Why ask if you already know ?)
But Garret knows he is on something. And he really wants to understand.
- So first the Bones then the creature, that's your plan.
She wants to go on not answering, not reacting but she tilts up her head.
(He is ... quite right about it...)
- Shouldn't your first priority be to get rid of that thing ?
- It's called a Lu-Qiri
- Fine ! Shouldn't stopping the Lu Qiri take precedence over getting revenge ?
(I have no reason to explain anything... But I am going to try... although I am quite sure you won't understand. Still you achieve to make me talk.)
- All my life I have search for those men... can't really explain it ... it's just... I fell it's though I'll never be able to control the Lu-Qiri until I clear my mind of everything else. Till I can put my past behind.
(And again I am telling more than I thought it was possible... but I see you're not convinced. That's why you lowered your eyes, isn't it Garret.)
- And if it make you feel any better, I'm hoping to solve both problems at once.
- Well if you ask me, I think you're being selfish and completely suicidal
(Maybe you're beginning to understand... Well, you can go now Garret. We're done...)
But before leaving there's one more thing he wants to tell her
- And for what is worth, I would at least you rather not do the suicide part.
(What was that Garret ? Could we not be done ?)
This time, she watches him as he is know the one walking away.
