Chapter 8

Sick

I still felt terrible when I woke up. Kai's tail wagged as he saw me. Then he realized I was still sick and whined. I petted his head.

"I'll be ok, Kai. What do you want for breakfast?" I asked.

"Mistress…" He rubbed against me.

"It's ok, I'm ok." I let him mark me.

"Mistress sit. Kai make din din." He told me.

I sat on the couch. I heard Kai move around the kitchen. I think he was making something. It sizzled. A few minutes later, he came back. Kai made a grilled turkey sandwich. I bit into it. It was just turkey and bread. He didn't add anything else. Kai laid on the floor and watched me as I ate. I decided not to say anything. He was trying his best.

"Where's your breakfast, Kai? Go get your breakfast." I told him.

He whined and rolled on his back.

"Go get breakfast." I said.

He left and brought back a bag of doggy bones. He dropped them at my feet. I gave him a couple. Now that he was fed, he wanted more. I closed the bag. Kai took the bag before I could do anything. He ran off with the bag.

"Don't eat all the treats!" I scolded him.

He munched on the bones. My side was beginning to hurt again. I stood carefully. I got some Advil and then went to the bathroom. I went back to the living room. Kai was done with the doggy bones. He watched me.

"Mistress mark?" He asked.

"Ok." I said.

He didn't move, but his tail wagged. Puck probably told him to leave my room alone.

"Kai wanna go couch?" I asked.

"No couch." He insisted.

I realized he wanted me to lay in his nest. Some Pets liked to have their nest to themselves. Other Pets were ok with their owners being in their nests. Kai seemed to be the latter. Could he get sick… I knew he was waiting for me to answer.

"Just for a little bit." I stepped into the nest.

I laid down. The nest was comfy, slightly better than a sleeping bag. Better than the ground. I would get him more pillows later. It smelled strongly of Kai, with little bits of Adri and me in between. Kai gently rubbed his face on my neck. His scent was calm, but I could tell he was worried earlier. I fell asleep quickly.

I woke up with stomach cramps. Kai whined as he paced around me. His scent was too much for me now. I gagged, retched. Kai brought me some water. I drank it slowly. I got up and laid on the couch. Kai followed.

"GO AWAY, YOU STINK!" I yelled at Kai.

Kai whimpered; ears flat. He put the water on the table and left me alone. I heard the shower turn on a few minutes later. As I laid there, I began to feel awful for yelling at him. It wasn't his fault my sickness came back with vengeance. He got out of the shower a little while later. Kai came into the living room. His fur was damp. He sat at the near the coffee table.

"Kai, c'mere." He was in front of me in an instant. I petted his ears. "You're a good boy, Kai. I'm sorry I yelled at you."

"I forgive you,'mega…" Kai licked my cheek.

"There's soup in the cupboard. Will you make it?" I asked.

"Yes, Kai make din din." He nodded.

Kai found the can of beef and barely soup. I told him how to open it then he cooked it. I was getting hungry now. He brought me the soup. I sat up and waited for him to put down the bowl. He wouldn't let go.

"Gimme the bowl." I told him. He let go.

The table was a little too far to reach from the couch. At least when eating soup. I had him scoot it closer. Kai turned on the TV. We watched a cartoon. I managed to eat half the bowl. I went to the bathroom and took more pain killers. I laid on my bed and read a book. It passed some time before my sides hurt again. Kai whined. There wasn't anything he could for me. I drifted off again.

"Tai, where are you-" Adri called when she got home. Kai jumped on her and gave her kisses.

I walked out of the bedroom. "Hi, Adri."

"So, this is what Kai's message was about. I'm gonna fire my manger." Adri frowned.

"Tummy hurts." I whined.

"What hurts, Tai?" She asked.

"Feel icky." I repeated. Kai rubbed his head on my hand.

"I'll get the Pepto Bismol then we're calling your dad." Adri went to get the medicine.

Adri came back with the little cup. I drank the medicine and then some water. She called Puck next. He brought us back to the castle once he realized my illness wasn't going away. I was taken to the infirmary. Dr. Sato came in. We told him my symptoms. I had a swab test done. He couldn't figure out what was wrong. So we had to wait until morning.

Talia's POV End

Third Person

Talia was having a fitful sleep. She whimpered and tossed around. Owen checked her forehead. She was still too warm. He frowned as Xanatos entered.

"Has Talia gotten any better?" Xanatos asked.

"Talia's complained of cramps and bloating as of this evening. She is becoming irritable. She's still having bouts of nausea and she's been tired most of the day." Owen explained.

"How's Kai behaving?" Xanatos frowned.

Owen looked at Kai. He was currently on the spare cot, with Adri laying on top of him. She petted his ears. Kai whined. Adri shushed him.

"Kai is upset he hasn't marked Talia for a few hours." He answered.

"Anything else?" Xanatos hummed.

"He's becoming more territorial because she is sick." Owen told him.

"Keep an eye on that. I'll check it later. Get some sleep, Owen." Xanatos left.

Adri and Kai fell asleep a bit after that. Owen was about to leave when a flash of light appeared. Owen shut his eyes. When he opened them, Grandmother was checking over Talia. Grandmother wore a blue shirt and orange skirt. Her hair was white, going to her mid back. Her ears were pointed and big, blue earrings hung from them. Talia was no longer tossing and turning. Owen wondered if that was a good thing.

"Do you know what's wrong?" Owen asked. He knew someone must have noticed Talia was sick.

"Her magic is growing. Talia is a Chimera; your magic, Lady Earth's, and the queen's magic flow through her veins. I do not know why it is affecting her like this." Grandmother frowned.

"Isn't there anything you can do?" Owen looked at the other Child.

"This will ease the pain. Only give it to her twice a day. I must look more into the matter." Grandmother gave him a bag and left. Owen opened it. It was an herbal remedy. He tucked it into his pocket and went to find Xanatos.
