A/N: I hope you enjoyed the sweet ending to the last chapter. Don't worry, it'll spice up! Enjoy :)
The sun from the window woke me up this morning, as its light cascaded onto the bed in beautiful golden rays. I turned over and smiled softly, looking at Bucky sleeping peacefully beside me. Glancing at the clock on the beside table, I saw it was already 8:00. I wish this moment, of laying beside him, could last forever. I sighed and rolled out of bed, trying to be as quiet as I could. I crept around and gathered up my clothes, tossing on one of Bucky's large t-shirts as I went. Just as I touched the door handle, I heard Bucky stir.
"Sneaking out are we?" He voice was raspy with sleep, which I found incredibly sexy. I dropped my hand off the door handle and walked back towards him, sitting beside him on the bed.
"Buck it's 8:00, we both have to get up. I promised Nat I would meet her for breakfast before training, and I'm sure you've got things going on too." He let out a sigh before reaching over and brushing my hair behind my ear.
"I had fun last night," he smiled at me before giving me a quick kiss.
"Me too," I admitted, reaching my hand out to hold his. I smiled at him, he was perfect. He was everything I had ever wanted. Kind, caring, handsome, funny, charming, a true gentleman to the T. I wonder if he felt the same? Sure he might have enjoyed the date, but what did that mean going forward? I was sure my anxiety was simply getting the better of me, but I couldn't stop myself.
As if reading me mind, "I'd love to take you out again, doll. If you would want that?" He eyed me nervously.
I nodded, "I would love that. I do have to go, but let me know when you're thinking." I stood, and Bucky quickly brought my hand to his lips, placing a gentle kiss upon it. I blushed, and walked towards the door, glancing back at him as I went. His eyes followed me out the room, and as I closed the door I heard him get out of bed as well.
Scurrying towards my room, I muttered my name quietly and snuck in.
"Nice of you to show up," Natasha smirked at me, perched on my bed waiting for me. I jumped startled before quickly shutting the door behind me.
"Nat you scared me!" I scolded, tossing my clothes from the night before in the hamper.
"I'm going to guess it was a good night," she eyed me up and down, hair mused, makeup smudged, and wearing Bucky's shirt.
I laughed, "the date was amazing, he's so hot. Plus he's a gentleman! But I know what you're hinting at and no, we didn't do "it" last night." Natasha raised an eyebrow skeptically. "I'm serious! You know you'd be the first person I'd tell if we did." She nodded and stood up, heading towards the door.
"I'll meet you downstairs in ten. We're going out for breakfast today," she smiled before closing the door soundly behind herself.
I quickly walked over to my bathroom and groaned, looking at my smudged mascara and ratty hair. I turned on the shower and began scrubbing my face with make-up remover. After about a minute it was mostly all gone, and I hoped into the shower, enjoying the warm water cascading over me. I quickly gave my hair a rinse, which I prayed was enough to detangle it. I hopped out of the shower and ran a brush through my hair, wincing as it ripped through massive knots. Unfortunately I didn't have time to work it out slowly, and cursed myself for falling asleep last night in such a state. After a few minutes of fighting with my hair, it was combed through enough to put into a bun. I brushed out my eyebrows, applied some mascara and chapstick, before running into my room and rooting around for some decent clothes. Settling on some light blue jeans and a white tank top, I hurriedly dressed, grabbed my phone and wallet and rushed downstairs.
Natasha was seated at the kitchen island with Steve, chattering away. Upon seeing me, she stood up, gave him a quick kiss and strolled towards me.
"Morning Steve," I called out to him, he waved at me and smiled his brilliant smile. He certainly was . But as my brother, he also knew exactly how to piss me off. My parents had always seemed to favour Steve when we were growing up. Sure he was much more frail and had many health problems that needed tending to, but anything he wanted mom and dad would find a way to make it happen. I didn't hold it against him, but when we were kids it was definitely a sore spot for me.
Natasha led me outside to where a black Audi was waiting, and we drove towards town. Natasha loved to drive fast, and being in the empty countryside allowed her to speed lots which she enjoyed. No cars, no people, just long stretches of empty road. We drove in a comfortable silence, windows down and music blaring.
After about fifteen minutes, the city drew closer and Natasha slowed down to a legal speed. We entered the beginning of the city and within ten minutes were parked outside a little cafe. "How quaint," I commented, eyeing the little baby blue store front, decked with a couple tables outside. The lettering on the glass window said "Adeline's". We walked through the front door and a small chime tinkled above our heads. There were a few tables and chairs strewn throughout the shop, and the front counter had a large glass case filled with an assortment of pastries.
"I'll have a medium chai tea, and a croissant please," Natasha told the small, older lady at the cash. "What do you want?"
"I'll have a small black tea with some milk in it, and a chocolate eclair, please," I smiled at the lady. I reached out to grab my credit card and Natasha frowned at me.
"Y/n, don't even think about it. She quickly handed her card to the woman and I thanked Nat. She was like an older sister to me. We'd always go and do fun things together like watch movies, go to the beach, go to eat, etc. Frankly she spoiled me at times too, often paying for me before I could, which I always felt bad about but she would brush it off as if it was nothing.
The woman handed us our drinks and a bag containing our pastries and I walked outside, choosing a seat to the left of the entrance. There were a few people walking around on the nearby streets, and the faint honking of car horns and construction could be heard from where we were sitting. But it was definitely a lot quieter than being really in the city. Natasha sat opposite me and slowly sipped her drink, taking bites of croissant between sips.
"Since I bought you breakfast, you now owe me every single detail of what happened last night," she smirked at me, and I laughed. Classic Nat, always eager for some juicy information.
I began by telling her what Bucky did in the car, which earned a gasp from her. Then told her about the games we played, some of the food we had, and then the ferris wheel where we confessed how we felt for each other. She listened at the edge of her seat, enraptured. She always knew how to make me feel important.
I concluded with what happened back at the compound and she leaned back, a broad smile dancing across her face. "He's so in love with you."
"W-what, no he's not. We just started dating!" I exclaimed. I felt flustered at the thought of that. We had known each other for years, and been friends for as long as I could remember. He did confess he had been romantically interested in me before the war, but surely not love...
Natasha observed me, the smirk still plastered on her face. I rolled my eyes at her and took a large bite out of my creamy eclair. The delicious chocolate filling melted away in my mouth and I chewed happily. Unfortunately I had an awful sweet tooth, and if it wasn't for all the training we did, there would be no way I' be as fit as I currently was.
We chattered on about training, Steve, Bucky, and plans for the rest of the day, before it was noon and we realized the day had just slipped away. We drove back to the compound, through the rolling hills of green, until we reached home.
"Thanks again Nat, that was an excellent morning," I smiled at her as I closed the car door.
"Always my pleasure y/n. And you'll keep me posted about you two?" I nodded.
We strolled inside and Tony, Steve, Bucky, and Bruce were sitting around in the living room. It was odd seeing them all hanging out in the middle of the day. Bruce and Tony were usually stuck in their lab or the garage, working away. While Steve and Bucky were almost always training.
"What'a going on?" I inquired, strolling towards them.
"Oh we're just planning something for tonight," Stark replied, turning towards me with a smile. "How was your ladies breakfast?"
"Delicious. And not horrible company," I winked at Natasha playfully.
"Good good. Y/n, are you going to be busy the rest of the day?" Tony asked, looking down at the paper in his hand.
"Um I don't think so. Why?" I began to feel quite curious. What were they planning?
"Ok good, Bruce wanted some help in the lab this afternoon," He continued. I looked around at the four men in front of me. All their faces were neutral, not a hint for what was going on.
"Ok I'll meet you there Bruce," I said, walking towards the hall leading to the lab. It bugged me not knowing what they were doing, but I figured I'd see later anyways.
Not long afterwards, Bruce joined me and we began working away on my blood sample, looking for some possible clues to finding anything that could counteract the serum.
Dusk began to settle, and the sun's pink light shone through the windows. I sat up and stretched out my stiff back, groaning at the movement. "So what's going on tonight, Bruce?" I tried to sound nonchalant.
"Oh I'm not really sure," he mumbled, flipping through his notes distractedly. I sighed and walked towards the door.
"Ok well I'm going to grab a bite to eat, I'm famished." I reached a hand out towards the door and Bruce's head shot up.
"Oh uh, wait I found something," He called out. I quickly rushed over and he drew a chemical formula on the board. "Bruce, we already looked into that. What are you guys hiding from me?" I demanded, feeling my frustration grow.
Bruce sighed, erasing the board in defeat. His watch pinged and he scanned the message. "Alright fine, you can go now."
I bolted towards the door, my curiosity killing me. I could heard some shuffling around, but didn't see any lights at the end of the hall. Just as I reached the dark living room, the lights shot on and everyone jumped out. "SURPRISE!"
A/N: The next chapter will be what the surprise is!
