WHEN A MAN LOVES A WOMAN

Once the case was closed and the constabulary found the victim, Lily Dunn had committed suicide, Detective Murdoch gone back to the station after his talk with Dr. Tash, just to be greeted by George, who told him Dr. Julia Ogden was waiting for him on the park.

With a nod and a smile then, he grab his hat and gone to find Julia, sitting alone on the same park where just two weeks ago, they almost lost their composure.

The woman was sitting alone on a bench in the park when the detective approached, she smiled lovingly at him, and he did the same however a bit distant. Realizing this, she just cleaned her throat and called his name.

'' William. It's good of you to come.''

''I'm very happy that you called. You should know that I have done nothing about charging Dr. Tash. It would involve investigating his clients –'' the detective started.

''And others?''

''And others. William, about the past, it's why I wanted to speak with you.'' Julia took a deep breath.

''No, Julia, its not necessary…'' Murdoch raised a hand in protest, but in response, Julia grabbed it and hold it down.

''Oh, but it is.'' She said and blushed slightly. ''Isaac and I were not lovers in university, we were just good friends.'' She said and for some reason, William was relieved. ''But there was another man I got involved with, a man for whom I had no desire to marry. I wanted to be a doctor, William, it was everything to me. I had fought so hard for so long. Wanting a medical career was difficult enough, but with a child...''

''It was a choice of convenience, then.'' William decided, but Julia shook her head negatively.

'' It was anything but convenient,'' she said. ''It was what I had to do. I went to Isaac and asked for his help. He refused, he would absolutely not consider breaking the law despite his personal convictions. I was desperate… So I went elsewhere. The procedure was an unimaginable nightmare and i almost died. I would have died if it wasn't for Isaac. He saved my life. And after that, I know that he - he hoped never to have to watch another woman go through what I did.'' She finished her story

''He saved your life, and for that, I am more grateful to him than I can ever possibly say.'' William agreed.

''But he's still a criminal to you, isn't he? Of course he is.'' Julia look to her lap.

''But this has nothing to do with you and I, Julia, We can put all of this behind us.''

''But how do you propose we do that? Are you willing to forgo your principles, your values, your... your faith?''

''I don't think that's necessary.''

''Don't you? I thought upholding the law was everything to you.''

''And that will never change.''

''What does that mean? Now that you know the truth, that I freely procured an abortion... will you jail me for life?''

''No, of course not.''

''So then you'll make an exception for me.

I-I'll do what I have to, so we can…

''But that's just it, William. I don't want to be an exception. I don't want your pity or your mercy.'' She said and he shook his head.

''Do you regret it?''

''No. Now tell me nothing has changed between us,'' Julia asked and in response, the detective remain silent, just staring at her. With that, Julia just holds back the tears threatening to fall and smiled awkwardly to him. ''I'm sorry, William,'' she said. ''I truly am.'' And with that, she got up and left.

As much as she loved him, Julia was aware that both human and divine law, were more important to William than everything else, even herself. This way, once taking that horrible secret from her shoulders, she decided that the best way for both, was if she goes away and she did.

On the other hand, William, just sit still on the bench, watching the woman he loved walking away, without him do anything. Sure. He knew she was wrong to do what she did while on university. And yes, she was right in saying that the law was everything to him, but what she did, it was only her´s, no human law could arrest her for trying everything to accomplish her dream of become a doctor and as for the abortion, it was something she would have to deal with The Heavenly Father when her time come. Other than that, if thas true, that God works on mysterious ways, William decided that God was making everything, to put him and the one he loved together.

Meanwhile, they are just humans and as such, William agreed that thy were bound to commit mistakes, as well of falling in love.

''Julia, wait!'' he exclaimed suddenly, making her stop on her tracks.

''What?'' she asked and in response, he rush to her and give her a surprise kiss.

''Julia, you will marry me?'' he asked suddenly.

''I…what?'' she asked confused with a laugh.

''You said yourself you did what you had to do on the past and if you haven't done it, I would never had the chance to met such a wonderful woman as you are, so, you did nothing wrong and if you did, its doesn´t matter to me…. You don´t need to marry me right now, I just want you to know that my love for you, is more important that anything you had done In your past, more important than any law we can think of now.''

''Are you telling me the truth, William?''

''Why I would lie to you? you love me, Julia?''

''More than you can imagine.'' She said. Part of her, just want to kiss him and accept the proposal, while on the other hand she didn´t want him to put his career in jeopardy because of her.

''So believe me when I say that Its doesn't matter what you did on the past, as for me, you did nothing wrong, the only thing that matter it's us now and how much I love you. so I ask, you will marry me? Lets write our future up from now?'' he asked.

For a second, he thought Julia would actually hit him, but than, she give him a passionately kiss and a yes to his proposal, agreeing that they could continue been a couple, write a futurw together and more important, that her fear wasn´t confirmed and absolutely nothing had change between them.
