(A/N: Well, it's time for the next story in my "Super Mario" timeline. Now that Luigi and Daisy have married, it's time to focus once again on Mario and Peach, and the title is self-explanatory! I'll get this fic started before you get bored.)

It was a fine afternoon in the Mushroom Kingdom. But there seems to be a rather big crowd making its way to Mushroom Castle. That's because today is Mario and Peach's second wedding anniversary, and at sunset, there's going to be a ball to celebrate it. In that case, let's head on over to the castle and see what Mario and Peach are up to!

We find Mario and Peach in their bedroom, getting ready for the ball. Okay, Mario is dressed in the King's Outfit and Crown, which he only wore on special occasions ever since he became the King. He fixed his hair and applied some cologne, and he's ready for the ball, but Peach isn't quite ready yet. She may be all dressed up, with her jewelry on, and she just finished working on her hair and applying her perfume. She's just about to put on her make-up.

At that moment, there came a knock at their bedroom door.

"Perhaps we should've started getting ready an hour earlier than we did." Mario thought, sure that it was Toadsworth who knocked at the door, letting them know that the guests had arrived and it was time for the ball. He had looked through the window a few minutes ago and saw the crowd, so he knew it was about time for him and Peach to get downstairs.

But when he opened the door, he was surprised to see not Toadsworth, but the Royal Physician standing there.

"Good afternoon, Mario. Do you know where Peach is?" the Royal Physician asked.

"She's over there." Mario said, motioning towards Peach's vanity table, where the Queen was looking over her cosmetics.

"Good, I was hoping the two of you would be in the same place." said the Royal Physician.

"Why?" Peach asked, turning her attention away from her make-up and walking over to where Mario and the Royal Physician stood.

"I just got the results." the Royal Physician said.

"You did?" Peach asked.

"What results?" Mario asked, confused.

"The results of Peach's pregnancy test, of course!" the Royal Physician smiled.

"You gave Peach a pregnancy test? Since when?" Mario asked the Royal Physician.

"I tested her last week. Didn't she tell you?" the Royal Physician asked, confused.

"No, she didn't mention anything about having a pregnancy test done." Mario said, looking at Peach, who looked nervous.

"There's a reason for that, Mario. I was afraid that if I told you I might be pregnant, you would get your hopes up really high, and if we found out the results were negative, you'd end up getting shot down like a duck." Peach said.

"I don't get my hopes up that high, Peach." Mario told her.

"You did it once before." Peach reminded him.

"Once. I learned from that." Mario told her.

"Um, excuse me, but do the two of you wish to know the results, or not?" the Royal Physician spoke up, feeling forgotten.

"Oh! Sorry. What are the results?" Peach asked.

"Yes. Please tell us!" Mario added, hoping against hope that the results were positive.

"Let's just say... the results are not only my anniversary gift to you; they're also worth telling your subjects." the Royal Physician smiled.

It didn't take long for Mario and Peach to figure out what the Royal Physician was saying.

"You mean...?" they asked, hardly daring to believe that it was true.

"The test is positive. Let me be the first to congratulate you both." the Royal Physician said as she shook hands with Mario and Peach. Then she left the room and closed the door behind her. But she didn't make her way downstairs just yet.

"3... 2... 1..." the Royal Physician counted, waiting for it.

Sure enough, an excited "YAHOO!" was heard from the other side of the door. The Royal Physician grinned, knowing that the news finally registered. Mario and Peach were going to have a baby! Now she would be able to join everyone else at the anniversary ball. But she wouldn't tell anyone what she knew. That was the King and Queen's job.

Back in Mario and Peach's room, they were celebrating the fact that they were going to be parents by having a make-out session.

"I can't believe it!" Mario said.

"Neither can I!" Peach replied.

"We're finally going to have a baby! Oh, cara mia, I've wanted to be a father for quite some time, and now it's-a finally going to happen!" Mario said.

"I know! I can't wait to be a mother!" Peach replied, before asking, "What do you think our baby's going to be? Are you hoping for a son, or a daughter?"

"I don't care. I know that most men hope for a son, but I won't mind if our baby is a girl. I'd love a daughter as much as I would a son." Mario said.

"I feel the exact same way. The best part is that it's our baby, and that's what really matters." said Peach.

"You got that right!" Mario said, and he and Peach started kissing again.

At that moment, they heard another knock at the door, which startled the couple and caused them to jump apart in surprise.

"I'll get it." Peach told Mario as she went to the door and opened it.

"Your Majesties, I thought you should know that the guests are all here, so it's about time for the anniversary ball to begin. Are the two of you ready for it?" Toadsworth asked.

"Almost." Peach said. She hadn't applied her make-up yet.

"Okay. I'll give you 5 more minutes, but that's it." Toadsworth decided, and he closed the door behind him.

"It will have to do." Peach said, scurrying back to her vanity table, where she started applying her make-up, making sure it was light before putting her crown on her head.

She was done within the 5 minutes, because when they were up, Toadsworth was heard saying from behind the door, "Okay, time's up. Are you ready now?"

"Ready as we'll ever be." Peach said as she and Mario went to the door and opened it.

"Then how about you come downstairs so we can start?" Toadsworth suggested.

"We will." Mario said. He escorted his wife downstairs and into the Great Hall, where the guests mingled, waiting for the King and Queen to show up.

"Oh! Look, everyone! They're here!" Toad suddenly said, and everyone looked to see that he was right. Mario and Peach had just entered the room.

Everyone cheered at the sight of the Mushroom Kingdom's rulers, and Mario bowed while Peach made a dazzling curtsy.

When the applause died down, Mario whispered to his wife, "Let's-a tell them, cara mia."

"I was planning to tell them before we start the festivities." Peach whispered back.

After a moment of silence, Peach began, "As you all know, Mario and I were married two years ago today."

Everyone cheered and applauded at that. They remembered that day as though it had been yesterday.

"You all might want to hold your applause until after our speech." Mario said. So everyone went quiet, wondering just why they had to wait until after the speech to applaud.

"When Mario and I became the King and Queen, you all knew that the Mushroom Kingdom would be in good, caring, responsible hands." Peach added.

The audience nodded. They wanted to applaud, but they figured that there was more to the speech than this.

"Now we want you to know that the Mushroom Kingdom will still be in good hands when our reign comes to an end, for there is a new little prince or princess on the way, a successor to the Mushroom throne." Mario finished, gently caressing Peach's stomach, which was still flat.

It didn't take long for everyone to realize what Mario had said, and what his gesture meant. As you might have expected, everyone started applauding and cheering loudly, for this was even bigger than the day Mario and Peach became King and Queen.

"Well, now that that's out of the way, let's celebrate!" said Peach. But nobody felt they could truly celebrate until they congratulated Mario and Peach on the baby, because that's one of the first things everyone did. (A/N: All but the Royal Physician, that is.)

"Peach, you're pregnant?! Congratulations! When did you two find this out? And don't tell me it was a while back and that you were saving that news for today!" Toadsworth said.

"Don't worry, Toadsworth. We got the news shortly before you asked if we were ready. The Royal Physician came up to our room and gave us the results of the pregnancy test she gave me last week." Peach said.

"Oh. Well, I'm really happy for the two of you. This is the biggest thing to happen in the Mushroom Kingdom since your coronation day." said Toadsworth.

"I might have guessed. The news of an heir sounds like a very big deal." Mario said.

"That's because it is a big deal. The crowd got just as excited as this when the kingdom's previous rulers made the announcement that they were expecting Peach. However, they didn't know it was Peach yet; they just knew that they were having a child." Toadsworth explained.

After some more guests congratulated Mario and Peach, Luigi and Daisy were able to see them.

"When did you guys find out that you're having a baby?!" Daisy asked them, sounding excited.

"Not too long ago." Peach said. She told them the same thing she told Toadsworth.

"I can't believe it! You're going to be parents, Daisy's going to be an aunt, and I'm going to be an uncle!" Luigi said.

Hearing Luigi's words made Mario remember something kind of important.

"Hold that thought!" Mario said to Luigi. He quickly moved closer to Peach and whispered something in her ear. Luigi and Daisy weren't really able to hear what Mario was saying to Peach because he was whispering really quietly, but if he wasn't, the festivities would've made it a little hard to hear. However, what Mario was saying must have been interesting, because Peach smiled and whispered something back to him, just as quietly as he had. She must have whispered a question to him, because when she finished whispering, he smiled and nodded his head at her.

"What were you two discussing?" Daisy asked.

"Something that I think will really make your night." Peach replied.

"Even more than the knowledge that we're going to have a niece or nephew?" Luigi asked.

"Oh yeah. While that in itself is a big deal, I wonder, how would you feel about being your niece or nephew's godparents?" Mario asked, knowing that Luigi was going to react positively. But after the way he saved Mario and Peach from King Boo, he more than earned that honor. And Daisy had always been like a sister to Peach, even more so now that they were sisters-in-law.

"You really want us to be your child's godparents?" Daisy asked.

"Of course we do!" Mario and Peach said.

"IT'S AN HONOR!" Luigi shouted, more excited than he was about the news that Peach was pregnant.

"It is. But I didn't think you'd ask us." Daisy said.

"Why not? You're family, and you're both very special to us." Peach said.

"Well, because Luigi and I are not what you would call 'popular'..." Daisy said.

(A/N: There's a reason for that. We hardly see Daisy in the main "Super Mario" games, and even though Luigi has accompanied Mario on numerous adventures, and has proven himself heroic in the "Luigi's Mansion" games, some people probably still don't think of him as anybody important.)

"It doesn't matter if you're popular or not. We want you to be our child's godparents." Mario said.

"And you really can't think that you're not popular when you're to be the future rulers of the kingdom you live in." Peach said.

"Actually, Peach, that's to be expected. Your subjects are supposed to love whoever's ruling them, or will be." Daisy said.

"No, that's not true, Daisy. If Peach had married Bowser instead of me, do you think her subjects would've loved him, or that they'd still love her?" Mario asked.

"He has a point." Luigi said, thinking about Mario's words.

"Okay, you're right. But they already know what Bowser is like, and they hate him. And they wouldn't like Peach anymore, either, because she married him." Daisy said, also having thought about what Mario said.

"Exactly. You're both popular." Peach smiled.

"Thanks, guys. I think Luigi and I needed to hear that." Daisy smiled.

"I don't know if I can thank you enough for this!" Luigi said as he hugged Mario, who knew that hug was coming.

"Luigi's right. It really is an honor. My second cousin is not only going to be my niece or nephew, but also my godchild!" Daisy said, hugging Peach gently, taking care not to hurt the unborn baby. If she was going to be a godmother to this child, she didn't want to cause it harm.

"That's what I was talking to Peach about. I asked her if we could make your our baby's godfather." Mario said to Luigi.

"And I said yes, as long as you were allowed to be our baby's godmother." Peach told Daisy.

"Of course I said yes. For one thing, you're married." Mario continued to Luigi.

"And you've been the sister I never had but always wanted." Peach said to Daisy.

"Thank you both so much!" Daisy said as she hugged Mario next.

"This is even better than just being the baby's aunt and uncle. I never thought I'd be anybody's godparent." Luigi said as he, like Daisy before him, gave Peach a gentle hug. Even though she didn't look pregnant, Luigi and Daisy knew that she was, and they couldn't risk hurting the baby.

The rest of the anniversary ball was like that, with everyone congratulating Mario and Peach on the baby, as well as making it to their second year of marriage.

Later that night, after all the guests had gone home, except the ones who lived in or were staying at the castle, Mario and Peach went to bed and celebrated the fact that they would soon be parents by kissing and cuddling until long past midnight. This was something they did only on special nights, and this was very special.

"Oh, cara mia, the last time I felt this happy was the day we got married." Mario said.

"I know the feeling, Mario. I felt the same way you did on our wedding day. I didn't think anything could ever make me feel as happy as I did that day. That is, until today, when the Royal Physician told us that there will be an heir to the throne." Peach replied.

"I still can't believe I'm going to be a father. I've been wanting this for a long time." Mario said.

"I know. When I was younger, I'd always longed to be a mother in the future. All I needed was to find Mr. Right, the man I loved, who would be loved by my subjects, and that I wanted my son to be like; if I have a son, that is. I found that man in you." Peach told him.

"I remember when you first told me you loved me. I was over the moon, but even though Luigi said he was happy for me, I still felt bad that he didn't have anyone... until he met Daisy." Mario said.

"I was surprised when you suggested making him our child's godfather. I had been so distracted by the ball and the congratulations from the guests that I wasn't really thinking about who our child's godparents would be. In fact, I thought you were going to suggest Rosalina or Pauline for our child's godmother." Peach said.

"Rosalina would've been just as good a choice as Daisy. But Pauline was my old flame. I thought you may not appreciate her being the godmother of our child, even though she's just a friend and nothing more. Plus, like I said, it's our child; you should have some say about who the godparents should be." Mario said.

"You see? That's one of the reasons why I love you so much. You let me choose our child's godmother." Peach said.

"Hey, if I made all the decisions, it wouldn't be fair to you. Especially when you're doing the most important part: carrying our baby for 9 long months." Mario said.

"You're going to be an amazing father. I know that for a fact." Peach said as she pulled Mario close for a kiss.

"And you, cara mia, will make an equally amazing mother for our child." Mario said as he cuddled with Peach.

I'm really happy for those kids. They more than earned this happiness, don't you think? Stay tuned for Chapter 2, and we'll see what happens next!
