Happy woke up Monday extremely happy. Well as she thought about it as happy as she could be after finding out exactly what Paige and her involving Walter had ended up costing him. When Cabe asked about the Hoover Dam job at dinner Saturday Toby had relented and told them they'd come back from their vacation a day early and go with them to the Hoover Dam, She'd been in as close to heaven as she could be. She'd long since wanted to tour the spaces that civilians weren't allowed and enjoyed it as only an engineer could.
She stretched and looked over and saw Toby was sound asleep, snoring. She smiled. Ordinarily his snoring drove her crazy, but she didn't care this morning, she was that happy.
She got up and went to make coffee. She had just enough time she could have a cup or two after her shower before they would have to leave and then she frowned. She looked at the can as she read the label. They hadn't gotten decaf yet and she sighed and put the can away before turning the machine off. So she went ahead and took her shower instead.
As she tied up her shoes she heard the doorbell and frowned. She leaned over and slapped Toby's hip. "Hey Fungus, wake up so we got time to get breakfast on the way in. We don't want to be late our first day back."
Toby gave her thumbs up as she got up and walked out of their bedroom. As the door opened her eyes went wide. "What are you doing here?"
Toby came out of the bathroom after his shower and threw on his normal t-shirt and jeans before putting on socks and shoes. He strolled out of their bedroom and into the front room. "Hey, if you don't mind Happy I'd like to get McDonald's today."
He stopped and looked around and didn't see Happy anywhere. He frowned and walked over to the front door and opened it and saw her truck in the driveway.
"Happy?" Toby called out but didn't hear any reply. He closed the door and pulled his phone out but didn't see any messages. He pulled up Paige's contact and hit dial. "I swear if they are together I am going to freaking lose it." He thought as he waited on Paige to pick up.
"Good morning Toby." Paige answered cheerfully as she was walking down the steps to the Garage floor.
"Well if my wife was here I would agree with you but since she isn't, you can imagine it isn't too good. Do you know where she is?" Toby demanded with sarcasm.
Paige frowned. "Toby, I haven't seen Happy since you guys left the Garage after we got home last night. What do you mean she isn't there?"
"Wait, oh gawd, you're serious, you haven't seen her since last night." He'd picked up on all of her vocal markers that she told him the truth. "Where the hell could she be?" Toby's voice went up an octave as he began to panic.
"Toby, get a grip, when did you see her last?" Paige spoke quickly.
Walter looked up at her with a frown on his face and he watched Paige mouth, "Happy's missing."
"She woke me up maybe twenty minutes ago to get ready so we could get breakfast on the way in. After I got dressed following my shower I came out and she was gone, and her truck is in the driveway." Toby told her as he ran to the back door and looked into the backyard but didn't see her and then ran to the garage but didn't see her in there or in the spare bedroom either.
Paige looked at Walter. "She's been missing for about twenty minutes. Her truck is in their driveway."
Walter pulled up his hacking portal and hacked into her cell phone company and quickly pinged her phone and saw it was in motion. "Her phone is in motion. It is heading in the general direction of the Garage."
Walter switched back to his hacking tools and quickly tapped into Happy and Toby's IP address and hacked through their firewall.
Paige picked up her desk phone and quickly hit Cabe's speed dial number.
"Where could she be?" Toby said as he ran back to the front door and looked out again.
"Toby, Walter said Happy's phone is moving and in the general direction of the Garage. Hang on while I get Cabe on my other phone." Paige told him.
Walter hacked through their security system and pulled up the camera footage. He told it to play back from thirty minutes prior.
"Hey kid, how's it going?" Cabe answered his phone.
Paige put him on speaker. "Cabe, it isn't going too good. I've got Toby on my cell phone. Happy's missing, her truck is at their house and Walter said her phone was moving in the general direction of the Garage. It might be best if you can pick him up. He's panicking a bit too much to be driving."
"Oh crap, alright. Toby, you hang on son I'll turn around and head over and grab Sly, I'm not too far from him and then we'll beat feet over to meet you. Stay strong son." Cabe called out as they all heard his siren go on.
"Did you hear Cabe Toby?" Paige asked as she hung up with Cabe and pressed Sylvester's speed dial number.
"I did, thanks Paige." Toby told her as he looked up and down the street. "Doesn't Walter know where she is now?"
Paige looked over at Walter and saw his eyes were large. "Walter?"
Walter looked up. "Get to the car, Happy's been kidnapped." He quickly transferred a program to the Garage server so he could access it on the road.
"She's what?" Both Paige and Toby said at the same time.
Walter shoved his laptop into his backpack. "She's been kidnapped, by Toby's ex-fiancé. I need you to drive so I can do some things." He turned and was moving quickly with Paige. "Toby, unless you don't think you can drive, it might be quicker for you to meet Cabe at Sly's. But call and let him know if you are so he can wait. Otherwise let him pick you up. After you get in Cabe's SUV let him know to head towards the Garage I'll have better directions before he gets here."
Paige looked at Walter as she started his car. "I'm glad today was Ralph's carpool day."
Walter nodded as he pulled his laptop out and hooked it to a satellite modem and accessed the Garage server.
Amy Berkstead looked over to her passenger seat. "You never deserved him you know. And now when he finds out I'm pregnant with his child he won't want you anymore. But since divorces can take so much time and be very messy I'll do us both a favor and get rid of you."
Happy was slumped against the door of the car still unconscious from the gas Amy had used on her.
"I guess you still don't feel like talking huh? Well don't worry I won't end your life until he is there to watch. I'm curious how you will meet your end. Will you be brave? Will you beg? He needs to know that you are inferior to me. And by catching you so easily and arranging this little demonstration for him to see, he'll know that I'm perfect for him again." Amy laughed as she continued to drive.
"I know, you are asking yourself, why I didn't just kill you there at your house right? Well if I killed you there then Toby might not want to live there anymore. And let's face it; it is a great neighborhood with a great school not far away. Did you know they have the highest rating in all of California schools? That's really saying something." Amy smiled.
"And our child is going to deserve the best. With both of our genes for brains our child is going to be a supra-genius. That clod of a friend of yours, Walter wasn't it?" She looked at Happy and smiled. "He'll have to take a back seat to our little one."
"I'd actually planned to have sex with him last weekend here in LA and then I found out he had gone to that medical conference but so much the better. I can't believe you were so selfish you couldn't go with him. I could have ended you there and they could have blamed it on the violence there. But that just made it possible to entice him back where he belonged." She grinned at Happy.
"I know you are probably thinking how am I going to get away with killing you and in front of Toby no less right?" Amy grinned.
"There won't be any evidence. You'll be gone, dissolved into primordial goop. It will be his word against mine. Once the officials give up on finding out what happened to you and Toby knows I'm pregnant he'll marry me. Then we'll live happily ever after like we should have before I was stupid and got rid of him." Amy patted Happy's hand as she continued to lie unconscious.
Toby had jumped in Happy's truck and took off for Sylvester's. He was beating on the steering wheel as he drove waiting on Cabe to pick up his call.
"Hey Doc, I'm almost to Sly's." Cabe said as his SUV's computer picked up the call.
"Cabe, I'm on my way to meet you at Sly's. Walter said Happy has been kidnapped by my ex." Toby yelled as he drove like a maniac.
"Are you kidding me? Where do we go?" Cabe said as he turned onto Sylvester's street.
"I don't know but Walter said for us to head towards the Garage and he'd have better directions for us." Toby told him. "I'm about five minutes from Sly's."
"Alright Doc, we'll wait for you to get there. I'm about two minutes away." Cabe told him before hanging up. He looked down the street and saw Sylvester standing by the curb jumping up and down waving his arms as if Cabe was going to drive by.
As his SUV pulled up along side of him Sylvester opened the door and jumped into the vehicle. "Cabe, let's go, Walter has my phone receiving updates with directions on the fly."
Cabe shook his head. "We can't, Toby's on his way to ride with us."
Sylvester grimaced. "Can you believe this? Why would someone kidnap Happy?"
"I don't know why Toby's ex kidnapped her son. But she isn't getting away with it." Cabe looked down the street and saw Happy's truck.
Sylvester looked at him. "Toby's ex kidnapped Happy? Why would she do that?"
Cabe shook his head as he looked at the map that was up on Sylvester's phone showing the vehicle as it was on a side street not too far from the Garage.
"I'm going to call Homeland and get a reconnaissance helicopter in the air. I've got a feeling we're going to need all the help we can get, call Homeland dispatch." Cabe called out to the computer.
Walter looked at Paige. "She's stopped outside of the warehouse district."
"Lord, Walter, what do you think she is doing?" Paige worried.
Walter shook his head. "I don't know, there isn't enough information to form a theory with."
"You don't think it has anything to do with what Happy and I did do you?" Paige glanced over as she continued to drive.
"No, there is no way for her to know what the two of you did Paige. This is something else. Revenge maybe, a slight she feels, maybe she wants Toby back." Walter told her as he hacked his way into the internet service provider of the area.
Walter tabbed over and checked Sylvester's phone location and nodded. "Good, Cabe is on his way here. But they are still about fifteen minutes out even using his siren. I better send him a message to be sure he shuts the siren off before they get too close."
Paige nodded. "That sounds reasonable."
"Oh Paige, turn right up here at the light and then hang a left." Walter pointed.
"Okay Walter." Paige said as she continued to worry.
As they moved through the vast warehouse complex they saw a black helicopter fly past and then started a loop.
"Damn it Cabe. That's the last thing we need." Walter swore as he grabbed his phone and called Cabe's phone.
"Yeah, Walter, go ahead." Cabe said as his computer answered the phone.
"Cabe, you got to call Homeland, get that helicopter to back off. We don't know what Amy wants with Happy, we can't put her in jeopardy." Walter yelled.
"What? They weren't suppose to get close they were suppose to provide long range reconnaissance damn it, hang up and call Homeland." Cabe swore to his computer.
Walter finally found the IP address for the warehouse closest to where Amy's truck was parked. He quickly began working to hack his way into the facility.
Walter looked up for a moment and pointed. "Park right over there love, it'll give us cover and me a few minutes to finish hacking into the warehouse."
Paige nodded as she pulled over and parked. "Do I keep the car running or will we move forward?"
"Go ahead and leave it running just in case. We can always drive up quick if we have too. But hopefully Cabe will be here soon and we can get in his SUV and go at the same time." Walter told her as he continued to hack.
Paige nodded as she left it running but Walter noticed she was rubbing her hands together in a nervous fashion.
"She's going to be okay Paige. We're not going to let anything happen to Happy." Walter told her as he reached over and squeezed her hands.
They saw the helicopter quickly move off into the distance and they both let out a breath. "Glad they listened to Cabe so quickly." Paige said and watched as Walter nodded.
Time was slowly passing as Paige listened to the sounds of Walter's keystrokes.
Walter finally nodded as Paige was looking at his laptop.
"What is it Walter?" Paige asked looking up.
"I'm into the system in there finally. She has a fairly rudimentary system, and it won't be hard keeping her from knowing I'm in. Ah, there is a CCTV system in place. Just need to access it and set the Garage server to record." Walter told her.
"What is she doing?" Paige asked as she looked over at the screen.
"She's dragging Happy over towards that gantry like thing." Walter told her.
Walter switched screens for a moment and saw Cabe was probably three minutes out now and switched back.
"Looks like she is securing Happy's hands to some kind of hook? Now she is raising the hook up higher into the air and moving Happy out over a pool of some kind of liquid." Walter frowned.
