Chapter 22: The End of Time - PART 3 - The Master Race
It is nighttime, the Master sniffs the air in the dark junkyard he is in. The blonde Time Lord's eyes widen realizing his childhood friends have found him. The three of them began to walk towards each other as the Master stops, still a distance away from them. He glances to his hands which start to spark and glow with a bright energy.
He uses this power to shoot bolts of lighting at the Doctor but it stirkes the building behind him as the brown haired Time Lord keeps walking with the Fighter. The Master's eyes narrow in irriatation as he rubs his hands together to generate a greater force and shoots another bolt at the Doctor. It hits him in the chest and he stops, wavering on his feet as his face is in agony.
The Time Lady starts sprinting towards her lover to stop him as the Doctor begins to stagger then fall to his knees. The Fighter stops suddenly and goes to catch him before he hits the ground as the Master does the same thing. The strawberry blonde Time Lady looks to him shocked as she helps support the Doctor by his shoulder while the blonde Time Lord does the same with the other.
He looks into her eyes briefly then glances to the Doctor before letting him go. The Doctor begins to fall to the ground more before the Fighter helps support him to keep him from falling completely. She looks behind her to see her lover. The Master sinks into a squat, his arms resting on his knees as he is a short distance away from his friend and lover.
He begins to speak with a disdainful tone "I had estates. D'you remember my father's land back home? Pastures of red grass, stretching far across the slopes of Mount Perdition. We used to run across those fields all day. Calling up at the sky." He begins to settle back and gives a grin, shaking his head "Well, look at us now!"
The Doctor, with a shaky voice looks to his best friend "All that eloquence, but how many people have you killed?"
"Koschei..." The Fighter began softly "Please, let us help you."
"I am so hungry!" The blonde Time Lord warningly states.
The brown haired Time Lord stated "Your resurrection went wrong. That energy… Your body's ripped open. Now you're killing yourself."
"That's human Christmas, out there! They eat so much! All that roasting meat. Cakes and red wine. Hot fat blood food. Pots and plates of meat and flesh and grease and juice and baking burnt sticky hot skin. Hot this, hot that, oh…"
"Stop it!"
"Sliced… sliced…"
"Stop it!"
"It's mine, it's mine, it's mine, it's mine. Eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it."
Finally, the Fighter, not being able to stand it anymore "Stop it Koschei!" There was a silence for a few moments as the two lovers look at each other.
"What if I ask you for help?" The Doctor suddenly asks, looking to the blonde Time Lord. The Master laughs at the ridiculous suggestion.
"There's more at work tonight than you, me and her."
"Oh, yeah?" The insane Time Lord says in a mocking tone.
"We've been told, something is returning."
"And here I am!"
"No, something more."
"But it hurts!"
The blue eyed Time Lady looked to her lover "Koschei...do you remember my fathers words about how I will out about the mystery of the clocks in 'the end of time'?" The Master looked to her nodding. "The Ood's told us it was the end of time now, I believe this is what my father was referring to! I remember him saying we share the same destiny, that means we might be able to find out the mystery behind the drums in your head as well!"
The blonde Time Lord puts his hands to his head "It hurts! Fighter, Doctor, the noise! The noise in my head!" He gets on his hands and knees crawling towards them. "Doctor! Fighter! One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. Stronger than ever before."
The Fighter gasps "The same with the clock sound in my head. It's just ticking faster and faster, louder and louder!" So he wasn't the only one experiencing the loud pain from the sounds in his head.
"Can't you hear it?" The Master gives the Doctor a confused look.
The brown haired Time Lord shakes his head, looking apologetically to his friends "I'm sorry."
"Please! Listen, listen, listen, listen. Every minute. Every second. Every beat of my hearts. There it is. Calling to me. Please, listen!" The insane Time Lord gives a helpless look and begs to his friend.
"I can't hear it."
The Master gets down so he is only inches away from the Doctor's face "Listen!" He presses his forehead to the Doctor's as the brown coat wearing Time Lord flinches back, hearing the drums in his head.
"What?"
The Doctor then looks over to the Time Lady as she gives him a slight smile. She still has her hands on his shoulders supporting him up as she puts her forehead to his. The Doctor flinches back, hearing the clock ticking away in her head.
"That's…" The Time Lord looks between his two friends, shocked by what he had heard.
"What?!" The Master asks him once again.
"I heard it." The Doctor starts to support himself with his hands as the Fighter pulls back, seeing disbelief in his eyes. "But there's no noise." The blonde Time Lord begins to get to his feet as he pulls his lover over to him in a hug. "There never has been. It's just your insanity! It's – What is it? What's inside your head's?"
The Fighter and Master look to each other, noticing that by being in contact with each other this time, the drums and clocks weren't being silenced by each other's touch. The strawberry blonde Time Lady nods, understanding it all as she looks to the Doctor. "As my father said, we will find out in 'the end of time.'"
The Master begins to laugh hysterically as he grips onto his lover's arm like a little kid triumphant in proving they were right. "It's real! It's real." He lets go of her and looks to the sky screaming "It's real!" Bolts of power come from his hands as he propells himself into the sky.
The Doctor staggers to his feet, still in pain, but glances up into the sky looking for the other Time Lord. The Master laughs as the Time Lady and brown haired Time Lord run after him to see him standing on a mount of dirt.
"All these years, you thought I was mad!" He raises his arm in victory. "King of the wasteland! But something is calling the Fighter and I, Doctor. What is it? What is it?! What is it?!"
A light suddenly shines from above as a spotlight stops straight on the Master. Another light snaps onto the Doctor and also the Fighter. Ropes begin to drop down on either side of the Master as the Time Lady begins to rush over to him. "No! Leave him alone!"
Men in black outfits slide down the ropes as the blonde Time Lord laughs with his hands out wide, celebrating. The men grab him and go to inject something into his neck as the Fighter knocks one of them to the ground. Before she can kick the other, he quickly grabs her and injects a sleeping medicene into her neck. The other man quickly gets up going the same to the Master.
"No!" The Doctor begins running to the group as they start shooting at him. The men signal for them to bring them up as the Doctor runs to avoid being shot. "Let them go!" Something hits the Time Lord who lies on the ground, unmoving as the helicopter takes off.
The Fighter wakes up, hearing people talk to each other. One sounded like the Master's voice, the other ones sounded familar, almost like from a dream or vision.
"I'm starving!" That was definetly the Master's voice.
"You have my daughter to thank for this. It's all her idea. She heard rumours of Harold Saxon, his disciples, his return. It's the sort of thing she finds rather – thrilling." A familar man voice was heard.
"And I was right – he's back." A familiar girl's voice was heard. "The very man we need and he's here. We also brought your sister along Mr. Saxon, we know you two are very close. Oh! This is going to be wonderful!"
The Time Lady's blue eyes jolt open, finally realizing why the voices sounded so familiar. "Ah, we see she is awake now." She looks to the two people, Joshua and Abigail with wide eyes. "I-It's you..."
Wilf is sitting in his home, getting ready to watch the Queen's speech. A picture of Buckingham Palace is shown as he salutes it. Suddenly the T.V as the brown haired woman and Green haired woman Wilf saw at a church begins to flicker on the T.V. He looks to the T.V confused as the image of them solidifies.
"Hey?" The old man looks to them confused.
"Events are moving, Wilfred." The mysterious brown haired woman spoke.
"Eh?"
"Faster than we thought."
Wilfred turns around to try and get the others attention in the room, but to no avail. "Oi, can you see that?"
The Green haired woman with golden eyes finally spoke "No, they can't. Only you can see us." Her face and voice showing no emotion once so ever.
"Only you stand at the heart of co-incidence." The brown haired woman spoke again.
"Why, what have I done?"
"You're an old soldier, sir. Only you were too late. The war was won and passed you by."
"I did my duty!" Wilf looked to the two women indignantly.
"You never killed a man?"
He shakes his head at the women "No, I didn't. No, I did not, no, but… Don't say that like it's shameful!"
The inexpressive green haired woman spoke to the woman beside her "I can't keep this up much longer, We need to be getting ready."
The brown haired woman nodded to her and looked to Wilf again "The time will come when you must take arms."
The old man looked to them worried "And just who are the two of you?"
"That is not of import at the moment." The green haired woman told him with a straight face. "Tell the Doctor nothing of this. His life could still be saved. So long as you tell him nothing."
The picture of the T.V changes back to a horse drawn carriage. Wilf looks to the others confused then back to the T.V, wondering if he should believe what he saw or not.
Wilf goes up to his room and gets a gun case from under his bed. He checks to see if it is loaded then looks out the window seeing the Doctor. He walks out of the house to go greet the Time Lord. The Doctor begins speaking "I lost them. I was unconscious. They're still on Earth. I can smell thrm, but they're too far away."
Donna's grandfather gestures to the TARDIS "You can't park there. What if Donna sees it?"
The brown coated Time Lord stops, looking to Wilfred "You're the only one, Wilf. The only connection I can think of. You're involved. If I could just – work out how. Tell me, have you see anything. I don't know, anything strange, anything odd?"
Wilf begins to look nervous, wondering if he should tell him about the two women or not "Well, there was a…"
"What? What is it – tell me!"
He hesitates then decides against telling. He wouldn't know what those women would do if he told, especially the unpredictable green haired one. "Well, it was – no, it's nothing."
"Think, think, think. Maybe – maybe something out of the blue, something connected to your life. Something!"
"Well, Donna was a bit strange. She had a funny little moment this morning, all because of that book."
"What book?"
Wilfred comes back out of the house later carrying a book called 'Fighting the Future' with Joshua on it. "Right, his name's Joshua Naismith."
The Time Lord's eyes widen in realization "That's the man! The Fighter and I were shown him by the Ood."
"By the what?"
"By the Ood."
"What's the Ood?"
"Oh, just the Ood. It's all part of the convergence." The Doctor looks up from the book in realization as he smiles "Maybe touching Donna's subconscious. Oh, she's still fighting for us even now. The DoctorDonna."
Sylvia, Donna's mother and Wilf's daughter, comes outside to see what her father is up to "Dad, what are you up to?" She looks to see the Doctor hiding behind Wilfred.
The blonde haired woman's hisses a bit "It's you! But – Get out of here!"
"Merry Christmas." The Time Lord says, trying to placate her.
"Merry Christmas. But she can't see you! What if she remembers?"
Donna's voice could be heard inside the house "Mum, where are those tweezers?"
"Go!" Sylvia begins to shoo them away.
The Doctor begins to walk back to the TARDIS quickly "I'm going."
"Yeah me to!" Wilf exclaimed, following after the Time Lord.
"Oh, no you don't!" His daughter began chasing after her father. "Dad! I'm warning you!"
The Old man begins waving back to her "Bye bye! See you later."
The brown haired Time Lord glances to Wilf in irriatation "You can't come with me."
"Well, you're not leaving me with her!" Wilf gestures to Sylvia still chasing after them.
"Dad!"
"Fair enough." The two men begin to enter into the TARDIS. The TARDIS begins to dematerialise as Sylvia continues yelling to them. "Get out of there! Doctor! Bring my father back right now! Come back here!"
Donna comes outside, looking at her mother in confusion.
"Come back here, I said! Come back!"
"Are you shouting at thin air?"
"Yes. Possibly, yes."
The Master and Fighter are lead to Joshua's laboratory with the Master in a straightjacket. The Fighter has her hands chained behind her back and her ankles have chains on them to keep her from kicking anyone else.
The blonde Time Lord was glaring at Abigail but glances over to the Fighter to see her looking straight ahead at something. It was a large machine. "Demonstrate it." Joshua tells the blonde haired female in a lab coat. She begins typing away as the lights in the machine spark.
The Master raises his eyebrows in amusement as the Time Lady gives a confused look, exchanging a quick glance with her lover. "Ooh, that's not from Earth!" He comments.
"And neither are the two of you. You two aren't brother and sister, you're more like lovers." Joshua looks to the both of them as the strawberry blonde Time Lady glares to him. "The perfect combination, don't you think?"
A skinny man in a lab coat asks to be excused to check on something as the blonde haired female from before follows after him. The Fighter raises an eyebrow, watching them carefully. Something about those two seemed...different.
The Master and Fighter are sitting at a table, opposite of Joshua. Abigail stands behind her father, smiling at them. Joshua is explaing on how he got the gate "The gate was found… inside a spaceship. Buried at the foot of Mount Snowdon. It was moved to an institute known as Torchwood. But when Torchwood fell…" He pauses, smiling "let's just say – I acquired it."
The Time Lord smiles in response as the Time Lady shakes her head. "I like you." The Master smiles to Joshua.
"Thank you."
Hunger becoming evident in his eyes, "You'd taste great!"
Joshua's smiles begins to fade, looking uncertain as he begins to back away from the table. "Mr...Danes."
"The visitor will be given food." A butler approaches, carrying a silver tray with a silver cover. He sets it down on the table as a large roast chicken is revealed. The Master begins to dive into it, tearing it to pieces and devouring it like a ravenous beast. The Fighter look to him with wide eyes full of worry as Joshua and Abigail look to him disturbed.
"A-Anyway, the device came equipped with its own power supply. A nuclear bolt." Joshua looks to a sealed chamber where one man in a white coat enters the chamber, as the other man exits the other, locking the first man inside.
"One technician remains in charge of the feedback twenty-four hours a day. And the power feeds through to the gate. It encourages some sort of cellular regeneration. Miss Collins was our test subject."
A young woman in a lab coat goes over to Joshua. "She carried some burns as a result of an accident when she was a child, down her left side. If you… could." Miss Collins pulls up her sleve to reveal a healthy arm free of burn marks. "The gate mended her."
"And what exactly do you want it for? To heal people...or something else entirely?" The blue eyed Time Lady looked to him with a wondering look.
"We calculate that if this device can be fully repaired," He gestured to the Master "by his good self, it can restore the body – forever! Hence its given title – the Immortality Gate. Because that's what I want. Not for me. But for my daughter." He begins to walk over to Abigail and puts an arm around her. "I want her never to die. My gift to her! She will be immortal!"
The Fighter rolls her eyes and with a sarcastic tone "What a good father you are. You're crazy!"
Abigail looks to her smugly, ignoring her statement "Abigail. It means bringer of joy."
The Time Lady scoffs and mumbles under her breath "More like Father's joy..."
The TARDIS begins to dematerialize in an old barn as the Master inhales deeply and the Fighter looks up sensing it. The blonde haired Time Lord turns to the computer "Better get to work."
The Time Lord types away as the Time Lady looks to Abigail and Joshua. "You can't be serious. An immortal life is not a blessing or a gift, it's a curse! You get to watch all the ones you love die away before your eyes and you live on, never aging, never dying. Do you really want that?"
Abigail and Joshua have hesitation in their eyes but continue to smile, ignoring the Time Lady's facts. "I know from experience, alright!" She points over to the Master who is typing away even faster "We know! Is that really what you want Abigail? To see your father, older then he is now, dying in your arms as you remain this way?"
Joshua ignores her and looks to the Time Lord "Now, please don't imagine I'm a slave driver. We can resume work on Boxing Day, Mr Saxon."
The insane blonde time Lord smiles grimly up to him "My name – is the Master." He presses a button as the screen turns red. He tucks his hands behind his head and stretches his neck, pleased with what he has done. The Fighter looks over to him as he winks to her with a smirk. Oh no...he's done something completely opposite of course, something terribly wrong.
The overhead lights go out in the room as the Immortality Gate begins to glow. Joshua claps, delighted "Oh! Excellent. Excellent." He glances to the guard "Mr. Danes."
"The visitor will be restrained."
The Master gives a confused look but a sarcastic tone, expecting this to happen already "What? But I repaired it!"
"I'm not an idiot!" Joshua says angerly "Don't let them anywhere near that thing!" A man approaches the Master with a straightjacket as the Fighter tries to break free of her chains. The two lovers stand next to each other as the Blonde Time Lord smiles to Joshua dangerously.
"Your reputation precedes you, sir. I have no doubt you've laid traps. Perhaps explosives. A means of escape. Murder. But everything you've done to the gate will be checked and double-checked before anyone stands inside."
The Fighter begins looking around the room, looking for a way to stop them from entering the gate.
"But it's time for the broadcast. The President's grand initiative. You might want to see this, sir. Proof that the human race can mend its own problems."
The Doctor runs into the room "Close the Gate up right now!"
"At arms!"
The brown haired Time Lord puts his hands up and points to the Master "No, no, no, no, no, no. W-whatever you do, just don't let him near that device." The Fighter looks over to the Master with a knowing look.
"Oh, like that was ever gonna happen!" The Time Lord says mockingly as he uses his power to fling off the straightjacket and collar. He leaps into the Immortality gate with a loud roar and a mad grin. The Doctor and Fighter stare to him in horror, knowing whatever he's going to do isn't going to be good.
"Homeless, was I? Destitute and dying? Well, look at me now!"
The brown coated Time Lord looks to the lab people "Deactivate it! All of you! Turn the whole thing off!" They shake their heads in obvious pain., the Master's laugh from the nightmares entering their heads.
"He's… inside my head." Joshua shakes his head, speaking with difficulty.
The Fighter tries to run towards the gate but has difficulty because of the chains at her ankles. The Doctor charges towards it instead "Get out of there!"
Wilf comes running into the room "Doctor, there's… there's this face. The Master's face. I can see him! I keep seeing his face."
The strawberry blonde Time Lady, still not giving up, goes over to a guard grabbing the keys and unlocking her chains quickly. She runs over to join the Doctor as he looks to her sadly "I can't turn it off!"
The Master gives him a sneering look "That's because I locked it! Idiot."
The brown haired Time Lord grabs Wilfred's hand, leading him into one of the secure chamber rooms. "Wilfred! Get inside there now!" Wilf unlocks and lts himself inside, pushing the other occupant out. The Doctor runs to the dials to adjust them. "Just need to filter the levels."
"Oh, I can't see him now – he's gone!" Wilf exclaims, taking his hands away from his head.
The Fighter runs over to the Master to try and get him out of the gate. He blocks her kick and ends up knocking her out of the gate, sliding across the floor. "Sorry Tiger, only one of us in here at a time. Besides, you wouldn't want to ruin the surprise I have for you. You're going to love it! I can assure you."
The Time Lady picks herself up off the ground as she grimices in pain. She begins walking towards her lover "What have you done?"
"You'll see, Fifty seconds and counting."
The Doctor joins the Fighter at her side again "To what?!"
The insane Time Lord chuckles "Oh, you're gonna love this!"
"What is it – hypnotism? Mind control? You're grafting your thoughts inside them, is that it?"
"Ooh, that's way too easy! No, no, no. They're not gonna think like me. They're gonna become me!" The Master grins over to the Fighter and winks "Told you you're gonna love it!" He begins to spread his arms out wide. "And – zero!"
A bright light shoots out of the machine, through the room and across Earth. Everyone begins to shake their heads madly as their faces flicker into the Master's features.
"No way!" The Time Lady looks around with wide eyes, seeing her lovers face everywhere.
"He can't have!"
Finally everyone stops shaking as the Master's grinning face is seen everywhere but in different clothes.
"Doctor!" Wilf shouts out, tears in his eyes as he holds the cell phone to his ear. "It's Donna, She's starting to remember!" He glares tot eh Master, finally loosing all respect for him. "What is it? What have you done, you monster?"
The Master looks to Wilf grinning "Oh, I'm sorry, are you talking to me?!"
"Or to me."
"Or to me."
"or to me."
"Or to us."
"Breaking news. I'm everyone. And everyone in the world is me!"
"I'm President. President of the United States. Look at me." The Master journalists in the crowed jump up and applaud.
The President Master grins "Oh, financial solution. Deleted!"
The blonde Time Lord steps out of the gate and walks over to his other versions. "The human race has always been your favourite, Doctor." The Doctor and Fighter look around helpless. "But now there is no human race. There is only the Master Race!"
The original Master and other versions of himself look over to the Fighter "So what do you think? A planet of nothing but me! Told you you'd love it!"
The strawberry blonde Time Lady glared at him as she smirked. "Just means more of you I can kick around."
"Aw now, save that for later my dear. In the mean time, I have a planet to run."
And so it came to pass, on Christmas Day, that the human race did cease to exist. But even then, the Master and Fighter had no concept of their greater role in events, for this was far more than humanity's end.
This day was the day upon which the whole of creation would change forever. This was the day the Time Lords returned.
The Lord President looks to the other Time Lords gathering as two Time Lords stand besides him. Two others are kneeling behind him with their hands covering their faces as if in shame.
For Gallifrey!
For Gallifrey! The other Time Lords cheered.
For victory!
For victory!
For the end of time itself!
Rassilon smirked, feeling victorious and confident looking out among the crowd. Everything was going according to plan so far. Ailla failed at her mission of stoping his daughter and her friends, but they would not fail this time! Rassilon had his leverage in case his daughter decided to not follow her destiny set out for her on this day. He had her sister, Romana held captive. But that was not the only piece of leverage he had.
He had others oh so very dear to her, the Doctor and Master that they simply had to obey him. He was determined to save Gallifrey, to save himself. He was not going to die in this Time War, NOT TODAY! NOT ANY OTHER DAY!
And bam, here's the cliffhanger. *Does Victory dance*
Now I got a little guessing game for you guys here, Who was that Green haired woman that was with the other woman? Who could she possibly be? Heh, heh. You will all find out in the next chapter! Oh I've been waiting for this moment for a long time. Yay! I can't wait to start typing up the next one XD
