Writer's Notes: Thank you Roxhall for your review! Bella is a lot, and in all seriousness, Bella does care, a lot about the people, even brats like Clarke. Clarke has a lot to work through with her inner demons. She's been through the ringer too, she just has to learn to control herself, and understand that things aren't just black and white. Either way, I hope everyone enjoys this next chapter and then the epilogue right after! I have enjoyed the BellamyxBella romance! Stay tuned for more fics, coming soon your way! March of the Dead will be posting up as soon as I can get it out, going through some revisions now, and it'll be up and ready for all my Walking Dead fanatics out there. As always, I'm open to hearing thoughts, critiques, ideas or requests. Shoot me a PM or if you're a guest reviewer without a Fanfiction account, you can always reach me by email at xkisakex at gmail or yahoo. [3 Months Later: Haven]
Haven was prospering. Their plans were working. Their gathering and farming were starting to take hold. Haven's Hive was intricate, and housed over 100 people now. Everyone had a place, and it was harmony. Three weeks after leaving Mount Weather, Ana, the leader of the grounders nearby, issued a treaty, a pact of sorts, with Bella and the others. They called them Skaikru, or Sky people. They were a tribe of their own. Mount Weather's Emelia Wallace entered the pact, Maunkru, or Mountain people. The only thing they were against was the elements themselves. Rainstorms could be bad, but they pushed through. The heat was extreme at times, but they continued to push their boundary, scouting out around Haven in plots.
"Bella!" Damon rushed into the security room, sweating.
"What?"
"Pack of wolves. Ana says they're not hers." Damon said quickly.
Bella frowned. "How many?"
"A dozen."
"Anyone hurt?"
"Murphy. He's mangled pretty bad. Lincoln is working on him now."
Bella cursed. "Alright. Let's go." She said and they jogged out of the security room. "Dax, Boone, with me." She called out, and then grabbed weapons from the armory. "Kane!"
Kane appeared in the doorway. "Yes Director?"
"Get Clarke, tell her to set up another station for more wounded just in case."
"Got it." Kane said and rushed away.
Bella checked her ammo, and then looked up as she walked out of the armory with Dax, Boone, and Damon. "Bellamy!"
Bellamy was already jogging down the stairs from topside. He was sweating. "The wolves killed Carson and drug off Taylor."
"You hurt?"
"No."
"Come on." She said and jogged past him and up the stairs. "On three." Bella said, and counted down. She pulled open the door and immediately was faced with three wolves that lunged at her. She shot two, and took her short staff from her side with the other hand and took the bite on the staff, and then shot the wolf as it gripped the staff. She fanned out, Dax, Boone, and Damon moving in the same formation, shooting wolves as they appeared. Bellamy's gun jammed, and a wolf lunged, but yiped as Bella shot it, before it could do damage.
They heard screams in the woods, and Bella sprinted towards the screams, Bellamy close behind her.
"Taylor!" Bella called out, and scanned the woods. Sweat dripped off her as the humidity rose going into the forest. She heard the low growl, and turned, the wolf attacking. She shot it, and it took a few times before it went down, and then spun shooting another wolf. "Taylor!" Bella called out again.
"Here!" A muffled groan came from her left. She ran, moving through the terrain with ease. She went to the ground next to him. "Hold on." Bella murmured, ripping her shirt off over her head and shredding it into longer strips and started tying off Taylor's arm, and leg.
Bellamy made it over to her. "It's clear. Dax and Boone are making another sweep, Damon is hauling the bodies in for Lincoln and Kane to process."
"Good, help me get him up." Bella said and Bellamy went to Taylor's other side, and helped lift him.
"Alright, there we go." Bellamy said, taking on most of Taylor's weight. They made it back to the bunker, and down the stairs.
Clarke emerged, her sleeves rolled up to her elbow, her hair was cut off short now, right below her ears. "Hey Tay, how you feeling?"
"Like I just got mauled by two wolves." Taylor groaned. He was slightly older than them, being 24 and one of the Ark survivors that came back from Mount Weather after Bella took out President Wallace. He had a beard, red, and his hair was equally as red, and his eyes were a piercing steel blue.
Clarke nodded. "Set him down in here." She said and Bella and Bellamy carried Taylor in and lay him on the table Clarke had set up.
Bella patted Taylor's face, smiling. "Clarke will take care of you. Don't give her any problems."
"Heh, I'm alive, thanks to you."
Bella winked. "Take it easy. Clarke, if you need anything?"
"Thanks Bella." Clarke said with a nod, and was already, moving to help Taylor, cutting his shirt off and examining his wounds. It was taking time, but Clarke was settling. She was trying not to be angry all the time. Her and Bella still had some spats, but it was starting to become a more friendly relationship now, and she avoided kissing Bella now. She was still struggling with that part of herself, and kept to herself for the most part.
Bella left the room, brushing a hand through her hair. "Alright. Kane, run damage control topside with Harper. Jazz is still out on a scouting mission with Nik and Ric, and Ana's bunch."
Kane nodded. "Yes Director."
"Kane."
"Yes?"
"Please call me Bella. I tell you every day." Bella said with a smile.
Kane smiled at her and winked, before going up top to do what he was told.
Caroline brought Bellamy and Bella water. "Here, you guys take a seat."
Bella shook her head. "I'm good. Thanks Care." She said, taking the water. She felt a little lightheaded, she admitted, and it made her sway, and Bellamy steadied her.
"Yeah, you need to sit."
Bella frowned, sitting down in one of the dining chairs. She felt the wave of vertigo again, and she sat her water on the table. She felt flushed suddenly. "I'm going to be sick." She said, and Caroline reacted quickly, grabbing the smaller trashcan, and shoving it front of Bella. She leaned over and threw up, and Bellamy rubbed her back.
"You get too hot?" Bellamy asked.
Bella shook her head, just feeling like utter garbage suddenly. Caroline brought her a towel, and Bella took it wiping her face, and sighing. "I got really dizzy."
"You should go lay down for a bit." Caroline said.
"No. I just…" the nausea hit her like a brick wall, and she leaned over, throwing up again.
She wiped her face again and leaned back. "Yeah, I'm about to faint." She murmured, and that gave Bellamy just a few seconds to catch her.
"Damnit." Bellamy said, and then lifted her into his arms. "Care, I'm taking her to our room. Get Lincoln or Clarke when they're finished with Murph and Taylor."
Caroline nodded, watching Bellamy carry Bella off with a worried expression on her face.
[3 Hours later]
Bella stirred, opening her eyes and blinking. Clarke was in the room; she had a stethoscope and was listening to her chest.
"Oh, you're awake now." Clarke said, and then moved the bottom piece down. "Take a deep breath."
Bella obliged, still a little disoriented. "What happened?"
"You fainted." Clarke said, looping the stethoscope around her neck. "How are you feeling now?"
"Headache." Bella said and sighed. "I guess I did overdo it."
Clarke nodded. "Yeah. You should rest some more. You're slightly dehydrated. Lincoln is going to get you set up with an IV, courtesy of Emelia. I want you to lay down, and just rest for a few more hours with the IV."
"I don't think all-"
"Bella." Clarke said, her voice curt. "I know medicine like my mom knew medicine. Let us take care of you. Rest."
Bella sighed. "Fine."
Clarke offered a smile. "I'll let Bellamy know you're awake." She said and then left the room.
A few short moments later, Bellamy came into the room. "Hey. How are you feeling?"
Bella sighed. She had a headache, but she did feel oddly weak, like fatigued. "Just headache, and tired."
"Clarke said you were dehydrated." Bellamy said and then there was a knock on the door and Lincoln came in with an IV bag of fluids.
Lincoln looked at Bella. "Hmm. You never listen." He said and then walked around Bellamy to Bella's side. "Make a fist." He murmured, and Bella complied. He handed Bellamy the bag of fluids and Bellamy held it up high, and Lincoln put in an IV like he saw Clarke do a dozen times. He took the pole he brought with him, and situated it on the bedframe, and then hung the IV bag on it. He looked at Bella, seeing how tired she seemed. "You really should rest."
There was another knock on the door and Bella sighed. "Come in."
Jazz opened the door. "Heard you got sick." He said and Ana was with him.
Ana looked at Bella, tilting her head. "You're not sick." She said.
Bellamy frowned. "You know that by looking at her?"
Lincoln looked at Ana confused too. "Ana, I'm not- "
"Lincoln, look at her. You used to be able to do this much better." Ana said, and Lincoln looked back at Bella, and then it dawned on him.
"Ah. You're right." He murmured. "She is dehydrated."
Bellamy shook his head. "I'm confused. What?"
"She's with child." Ana said with a nod.
"What?" Bella said frowning. "No. That's not possible."
Jazz raised a brow. "Well, on the Ark, they insert a birth control implant to all puberty aged girls. It's to prevent over population. There was a 1 child limit per family." He explained.
Ana looked at Jazz. "That may be what worked on the Ark, but you're on the ground now. How long are these…implants useful?"
"Until they're removed." Bellamy said. "Even then, it takes a long time after removal for anyone to get pregnant."
"Where are they normally inserted?" Lincoln asked.
"Arm." Bella said, looking at her arm. "Oh." She looked up at Bellamy. "When I got attacked by wolves."
Bellamy shook his head. "Even if that were true, how can you tell by just looking at her?"
"It's her aura." Ana explained.
"Aura?"
"Yes, radiation has side affects on those that have adapted and lived on the surface so long. Some can see auras in others. It takes practice." Lincoln said.
Bellamy looked at Bella. "There's really only one way to find out."
"That's just crazy. There's no way." Bella said shaking her head. "I don't even remember which arm my implant is in."
"Simple test," Jazz said. "Have Clarke use the device. We've removed several implants for others so far that wanted theirs removed."
Bella looked at Ana. "You're sure?"
Ana nodded. "I am. It's the only way we can test our women in our village. I'm never wrong."
Bella sighed. "Alright, get Clarke." Jazz nodded and left, going to retrieve Clarke and to tell her what was going on.
Lincoln looked to Ana, and then back at Bella. "I'll let you guys, handle this." He said and then nodded to Ana for them to take their leave.
Bella looked at Bellamy. "Bell…"
"I know." Bellamy said, his arms were crossed, it was his relaxed stance. He always stood like that. "I love you."
"I love you too."
"It's going to be okay."
Bella nodded, and then looked up at Clarke when she came in. "Clarke."
"Jazz…uh told me." Clarke said, holding up the device. She moved it over Bella's arm that had her old scar from the wolf attack. She shook her head and looked at the other arm. "It's not there." Clarke said as she straightened.
"That's…insane. That happened so long ago." Bella murmured.
"Well, some of the girls have been trying to get pregnant lately, starting to bloom the colony. The radiation makes it harder for women. According to Emelia, pregnancies even with them is rare. This isn't something that would have been easy to achieve." Clarke relayed. "I'll take a blood sample. Run it, find out for certain." She said, and reached into her pocket and took out a syringe and tube. She took Bella's blood. "Doesn't take long. I'll let you two know." She said and left the room.
Bella sighed and looked at Bellamy who was just smiling at her. "What?"
"Oh, nothing."
"You're staring at me."
"Because I love you. I can see the anxiety all over you."
Bella ran a hand over her stomach. It was flat. "I don't feel anything."
"I'm pretty sure you're not going to until it gets bigger." He said, going to sit on the bed next to her.
"I have been doing a lot of strenuous activities. What if something is wrong?"
"First, let's just wait for Clarke to run your blood."
"You heard Ana, she's never wrong." Bella pointed out.
Bellamy nodded. "True, but that doesn't mean we forget science."
"Nothing is normal on the ground like it was up there on the Ark Bell."
Bellamy reached over, rubbing a hand over her stomach. "Nothing with you is ever normal either." He said with a smile. "It's going to be okay. You know that right? We have peace with the grounders, with Mount Weather. We're colonizing, and growing. This is a good thing, right?"
Bella nodded. "I just sort of thought kids were an after you get married sort of thing."
"Oh? You want to get married?"
"Well…"
Bellamy smiled. "You want to marry me."
"I didn't say that."
"Then who would you marry?"
"I could marry Clarke."
Bellamy snorted. "Okay, unless we fall into an alternate reality, will that ever happen."
"Hey, she's growing on me. We kissed a couple times, didn't you know?" Bella teased.
"Hmm. Yes. I do know, and despite fantasies of mine in my youth, I know for a fact, you love me." Bellamy said, leaning over and kissing her.
Bella smiled against his lips. "Hmm, well, I'll entertain the thought of marrying you. If we get married… I have to change my name to Blake. Bella Blake and Bellamy Blake just runs together."
Bellamy laughed a little. "Really? You're just now figuring out our names are really similar?"
"No, I figured it out a long time ago. I just…never thought about marriage before. If I'm being honest, I thought maybe I would of died a long time ago."
Bellamy frowned. "Why would you think that?"
"Because…I'm willing to sacrifice myself if I need to. I somehow, keep surviving. If it wasn't for you, maybe I would have a long time ago." Bella admitted.
Bellamy cupped her face with his hand and leaned in and kissed her again. "I love you."
"I love you too."
Clarke returned a few moments later. "So, you are in fact pregnant. Test proves that. Levels are indicating nine weeks."
"Seriously? That's pretty far along." Bella murmured.
Clarke nodded. "Well, we do have some sonographic equipment that Emelia gave us. We could take a peek inside?"
Bella looked at Bellamy. "Should we? I mean…we should. What if something is wrong…"?
"Yes. We should."
Clarke nodded. "I'll go get the case. Sit tight." She said and disappeared and returned a little while later. "Okay. So…Emelia showed me how to use this when she was here a few weeks ago. It also helps with finding free fluid in the abdomen, in case of internal bleeding."
Bella raised a brow and Clarke stopped and looked at her. "I'm sure I'm not bleeding internally."
"Well…it's used for many things. Is my…point." Clarke said and then just opened the case and set up the machine. She got situated and then Bella lifted her shirt, and Clarke rolled the little wand around carefully. They all looked at the square screen carefully. "Oh. Right there." She said. "See the fluttering."
Bella and Bellamy stared at it, just in shock. "It's, okay?" Bella asked.
"Well, everything looks normal. I'm not an expert. I would have one of Emelia's doctors take a look at you. But the heart is pretty high, and I read that that's good. It's still small, so I suppose another ultrasound in a couple months will reveal more, like legs, arms." Clarke explained.
Bella nodded. "Okay. So, this is real."
Clarke nodded. "It's real." She said leaning back. "Oh, this thing prints." She said and hit a key and a ribbon printed out, a small square of the image on the screen. She handed it to Bella. "Bella, are you okay?"
Bella nodded. "Yeah." She said, staring at the image. "I'm just…still in shock. Thanks Clarke."
Clarke smiled, and put the machine back in its case, but paused to look at them both. "I want to say how sorry I am. I know I'm a brat, and you guys put up with me."
"That's a understatement." Bellamy mumbled.
Clarke ignored him. "I've been working on my emotions, and…not letting it get to me. I want to say thank you Bella. For…not giving up on me when you should have. I would have given up on me. These three months have shown me exactly how amazing you are."
Bella smiled. "You're not going to kiss me again, are you?"
Clarke smiled. "No. No…I wouldn't overstep that boundary again. I don't feel that way about you Bella. Really, I don't. I was just…I feel something different…about someone else, and I'm just happier now." She said.
"Yes, Jasper J is amazing. Hurt him, I hurt you." Bella said.
"How did you…"
"Because I have eyes." Bella said with a snort. "I'm proud of you Clarke. In all seriousness, you're still a pain in the ass, but I'm glad you're doing better. Focus on that and thank you."
Clarke nodded and stood, taking the case with her.
Bella looked at Bellamy. "She's not that neurotic anymore."
Bellamy smiled. "Guess not." He said and leaned in and kissed her. "You're pregnant." He murmured.
"I know…. it's a miracle."
"It is." Bellamy agreed. He was a mixture of things. Scared, excited, and just pure love. Love for Bella, and love for a family that he never dreamt that he would ever get a shot at having. He was happy, and for once, he felt safe, safe here with Bella, and their unborn child.
"I love you." Bella murmured.
"I love you more." Bellamy teased, kissing her again, and then placing a kiss on her stomach. Yes, this was what true love and happiness felt like.
