Fatima was curled up on her bed, wrapped in blankets and holding her favorite stuffed animal, a small pink cat nicknamed Kiki. She had stopped crying, but she was still not ready to give her statement about what had happened. Devin had dropped her off and got her settled, leaving her with a kiss to the cheek and a promise he'd be back. She rested her head on the headboard and let out another tiny sob. There was a gentle knock on the door, then Rountree stepped in.
"Well, hello, princess, I have pizza, and I left some ice cream in the freezer, and I have some sodas, I know you said you didn't want any beers, but I brought some anyway. You don't have to drink any if you don't want it," he said softly. Fatima sobbed even harder. Rountree rushed over and wrapped his arms around her. "It's okay, I'm sorry, I don't know what I'm apologizing for but I'm sorry," he murmured.
"It-it's not you. You-you're being so n-nice," she said through tears. "I-I don't d-deserve it," she said. Rountree softened.
"Sweetheart, you deserve the world. You do. C'mere, give me a hug," he said gently. They ate pizza and cuddled for the rest of the night. Fatima cried on and off for the whole night, and Rountree kept his arm extended the whole night, resting on her headboard so she could come and go from his cuddles as she pleased.
