A/N Sorry I could not post the chapter sooner as I was not feeling and my exams are going to start from 6th August. Anyway enjoy!
Chapter 7: That idiot, again
Sadly that feeling of triumph wasn't going to hold on forever. Not even for a long time. Now, an hour later, Katniss can feel that she isn't able to ignore the stupid comments and their origins, which are, 97% of the time, the two boys. Every time they do it now she can feel the little cloud that let her fly near to the sun sink little more and drift towards the ground. Back to hard reality.
They have only finished one big interview by now. The interviewer was pretty nice. No trapping questions and not much asking about their relationship. Just a little talk about their games, the life now and their clothes. Katniss used the chance to praise Cinna and his talent for creating wonderful and amazing, even magical dresses, and though that, moments, more than once.
Right now they are watching Finnick doing his solo interview. Because all channels are sending live today, there's no cut, everyone has to their best. No cussing, more smiling, just the normal parts of playing a perfect human. She actually believes that there are bets around the staff members about who drops their mask first and let the real come through the fake.
She looks at the screen where she can see Finnick answering every question with a bright smile. He even manages to blush as he gets a compliment. Idiot. She tries to concentrate on what they're talking about. She knows that she can't do it for long, but after a short while she's able to follow the conversation.
"Yes the time in there was tough, but I learned a lot from it." Finnick is telling Caesar. "Oh, I'm sure. So you'll be allowed to come back as a mentor, maybe even next year, what do you think about that?" "Honestly, I didn't even realize that it's time already, but you're right. Let me try to find the right words…" Caesar nods and Finnick is silent for a few seconds.
"I think it's an honor, a privilege, but also a burden. Of course it depends on the tribute, but as a mentor you are responsible for the victory of your tribute in some kind of way. And I'd love to teach them how to fight and my best tricks, even better if I can watch them survive, maybe always thanks to what I told them. But I don't know how to feel about always being sure that only one of them can come back."
Katniss can feel the tears in her eyes. That was a really touching answer. And he's got a good point. But she can't cry here. Not now! Exactly at his moment someone runs into her. She falls but, the boy keeps running, not even looking at her. Right now it's really hard to suppress a swear, but she makes it.
She looks back at the screen, not even realizing that she is still sitting on the on the ground and possibly ruining her beautiful dress. But as the blur is gone, Finnick did the same thing. He disappeared from stage, his interview is over.
Katniss frowns. That's not what she wanted. She's mad at the stupid guy who rushed around and made her fall. He didn't care about her. Just like all the other people in the hall. Not even a single person came to the thought of helping her up. For a second she frowns, thinking how nice it would be to have a glorious prince at her side, always ready to come and save her.
At this moment pair of strong hands wrap around her waist from behind and pulls her back on her feet. She smiles. But that smile immediately vanishes as she turns around to see her savior. Finnick. That idiot again. But maybe he could be a good one, after what he did, it was possible he was normally nice.
He grins and says "Oh, you poor little thing, did you fall? How terrible! Better make sure that your crown is still at its place, quick princess, hurry!" Okay, maybe she was wrong again. He just needed a situation to make fun of her again. It's about time that he should decide whether to be nice or an asshole.
That's exactly what she was going to tell him! But he already walked away. Katniss sighs. This is going to be a tough day. And it's not even close to over now. She forces her 'I'm great, I won' smile back on her face and walks to her solo interview.
If she has to fight through this stupid day, then she's at least going to kick some ass.
And survive, of course.
