More Than One Lifetime

Author's Note: You guys are allowed to throw all the tomatoes at me. I know it's been a LONG time since I've updated this, and I'm sorry about that. Life and other things got in the way. You know, the usual stuff. Though, I'm back now, and I simply want to say thank you guys for all your support and patience. With that being said, I've done enough talking. Let's get started.

Chapter 7: A New Friend?

Intro: Avatar: The Last Airbender Opening

"Water…"

"Earth…"

"Fire…"

"Air…"

"Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed, and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang. And although his airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone. But I believe Aang can save the world!"

"Oh, and Sonic's here too."

"Hey!"

Ah yes, Kyoshi Island. A place known for its battle tested Kyoshi Warriors, beautiful scenery, elephant koi fish, good food, the scary unagi, and most of all, Avatar Kyoshi.

Unfortunately, you wouldn't be able to tell any of these things since the island itself looks like it's been through the apocalypse. Destroyed homes, Avatar Kyoshi's statue being beheaded, multiple signs of a major battle taking place, it just didn't look good.

And you know what else wasn't good?

A random portal suddenly deciding to suck Sonic in and take him years into past, leaving Aang, Katara, and Sokka to fight for themselves against an army of machines.

Pain.

"Okay, so Sonic just randomly disappeared, and now we have an army of machines that want to kill us!" Sokka exclaimed, thinking about all of his life choices up to this point. Maybe his life was a mistake. "I'm telling you guys, the universe hates us!" he said, beginning to freak out as the Gaang were taking steps back.

Once again, at this point in the timeline, Katara and Sokka weren't the greatest fighters, but this weakness was nullified somewhat due to having both Aang and Sonic being there.

Now, it's only Aang.

"Sooo, uh, Aang, do you have a plan?" Katara asked, her eyes widening at just how many machines were surrounding them. Jeez, they couldn't catch a break. Dealing with Zuko and his firebenders, Aang going nuts in the Avatar State, and now this.

It's been a crazy past few days.

Actually, they could probably use Aang going into the Avatar State right about now, or 'glow it up' as Sokka would say it.

"Don't worry guys, I got this!" Aang shouted, wanting his friends to believe in him while also trying to believe in himself. Getting into his stance, his face became determined, getting ready to fight an army of crazy machines.

Years Ago In The Fire Nation Capital

"Wait, wait, wait, you're a princess?" Sonic asked, his eyes widening at the news. "You look a little young to be a princess."

Azula sighed deeply, figuring she had to explain the details to Sonic. "Fine. I'm not the princess yet, but I will be. Oh, I will be. Then everyone will be forced to bow down to me!" she said in an evil-like manner, leaving Sonic dumbfounded.

"Okaaaay… This girl is crazy." Sonic thought to himself, making a mental note. "I assume that means your mother is still around?"

BGM: Avatar: The Last Airbender – Zuko Beach Flashback

Azula nodded. "That's correct." she unenthusiastically replied, folding her arms like she was annoyed at her mother being brought up.

It's safe to say Sonic noticed this, and with the blue blur being the ever so good guy he is, even if Azula is supremely scary, he always wants to help people.

"What? You don't like your mom or something?" Sonic inquired, waiting for a response but Azula went silent.

This was really the last thing she wanted to talk about, but since it was brought up…

Well, she couldn't help herself.

"I wish my mom would just go away! She doesn't love me, she thinks I'm a monster!" Azula yelled, her annoyed look now turning into one of not only anger, but sadness as well. Her eyes told the whole story. She wasn't crying, because she already cried enough for one day, but it was hard to hold back her tears.

She was hurt.

"She likes my brother more anyway…" she stated, hating the fact she was showing herself to be this vulnerable, but there was nothing she could do at this point.

Now, Sonic fully understood why Azula was crying when he first saw her. The angry, somber look she had could all be pointed back to her mom. Sonic wishes he knew what Azula's mom was really like, and maybe he could actually really help her out.

Still, not knowing what her mom was like wasn't going to stop him from trying to help.

"Hey," Sonic said calmly, figuring to take this one step at a time. "I'm sure your mom loves you and your brother equally."

"You've never met my mom, so how could you know that?" Azula pointed out, which was a good point.

Sonic quietly sighed. "Okay, you're right. I'm not going to act like I know what your mom is like, but what I do know is you need some help." he told her seriously, but had a smile on his face to show his good intentions. "Do you talk to anybody about this?"

Upon hearing Sonic's question, Azula became quiet once again, taking a long time to answer.

Though, she would eventually answer.

"No…" she replied simply. "Nobody needs to see me in this pathetic, weak state. The future princess can't be seen crying like this."

Sonic shook his head. "That's not true. If you always hold your emotions in, you're going to drive yourself insane." he told her, unknowingly predicting how Azula's future would turn out.

At least, how it turned out in one timeline.

"You gotta have somebody you can talk to, right?" Sonic asked, not yet stopping. "What about your brother?"

Azula scoffed when her brother was mentioned. "That dum dum is too busy being stupid all the time."

Time to mention somebody else.

"Your father?" Sonic continued.

Azula rolled her eyes. "Please. If I ever brought up this situation to my father, he would laugh right in my face."

Well, that's dead.

"Any friends you can talk to then?" Sonic inquired.

"My 'friends' wouldn't know how to respond."

"How do you know that for a fact if you've never tried?"

Azula shook her head. "Trust me, I know. There's no point in trying. My friend Ty Lee is unfathomably positive, and my other friend Mai doesn't even know the definition of showing emotion."

"Kinda sounds like the same problem you're going through, don't ya think?" Sonic brought up, making Azula raise her eyebrow.

"What? Showing emotion?"

"You're trying to hold everything in. I'm not sure how long you've been doing it, but you're not doing a great job at holding it in at this very moment. That's my point. It's going to get worse if you try to keep up this façade." Sonic explained, essentially becoming Azula's therapist right now.

"And so what?" Azula harshly replied, knowing Sonic had a point. "It's not like anybody can help me anyway, nor do I need their help. There's nothing wrong with me."

Sonic looked at Azula blankly, before saying, "That has to be one of the worst lies I've ever heard in my life."

Azula smirked. "Lying is my specialty."

"In this moment, I can't tell." Sonic responded, rubbing his head as he tried to figure out how to help Azula. He thought and thought, trying to find the right words to say. Might as well try to help, since he's going to be stuck in this period of time for God knows how long.

"If you feel like you can't talk to anybody, then you can talk to me." Sonic told her, showing a smile.

Azula placed her hand on her chin, acting like she was thinking about taking up on Sonic's offer.

Key word, acting.

"Hmm… Hard pass."

"Azula-"

"Princess Azula."

"You're not the princess yet."

"But I will be."

"But right now, you're not."

They continued their little back and forth, with Sonic never wavering in his attempts to try to help Azula. As many times as Azula would turn him down, Sonic would be as relentless in trying to change her mind. It's safe to say she noticed this, and honestly, she found it weird, strange. Heck, even crazy. Nobody has attempted to help her like this before.

As time passed, Azula realized Sonic was actually… being genuine. Like, he wanted to help her.

Still, she was having trouble accepting that fact. Sonic's good nature was unsettling, and it's a shame she feels that way. It shows how much she was dealing with both on the outside and inside.

"Getting emotional help from a blue talking hedgehog… Yep, I feel like I've already lost it." Azula said out loud, closing her eyes and rubbed her forehead in frustration.

"Hey, this is what I do. I help everybody, and I'm not gonna leave you alone until you accept my help." Sonic declared, smirking. "Though, now that I think about it, I'm still not gonna leave you alone when you do accept my help, so no matter how you look at it, you're stuck with me."

Once Sonic said this, he actually got some progress.

What kind of progress was that?

Azula actually laughed a little bit, and it was… somewhat normal?

Sonic, now having a knowing look on his face, began to say, "See? Being in my presence is already having a good effect on you. I know what I'm talking about."

Azula rolled her eyes, but she did have a smile on her face. "Yeah, yeah, whatever." Yep, she had to admit it, he got her good. "Fine, I'll accept your help, oh Sonic The Hedgehog. It's not like you're going to leave me alone anyway."

Sonic clapped his hands together, showing a smile. "Awesome! Now, first thing's first, is there anything you find fun?" he asked.

Azula thought about it. It's not like she didn't know the definition of fun, she did have things she enjoyed. "Aside from beating up my brother? Tough one."

"Here's a thought, how about we don't choose violence today?" Sonic suggested, making Azula cross her arms.

"But I like-"

"Azulaaaaaaa…" Sonic started, mimicking Azula by crossing his own arms.

"Alright, alright." Azula gave in, continuing to think about things she enjoyed. Eventually, she came up with something. "There's a pond near my home. I go there to feed the turtle ducks sometimes."

Once he heard the term turtle ducks, Sonic rubbed the back of his head, showing major confusion. "Turtle… ducks?" he slowly repeated, tilting his head as he tried to make sure he heard correctly.

"Yes, turtle ducks." Azula smartly replied. "I'm starting to really think you live under a rock."

"This world has weird names for creatures, I swear." Sonic thought to himself. "I don't live under a rock! I just… wasn't expecting them to be called turtle ducks. It's weird to me."

"You find that weird, but you don't find being a blue talking hedgehog weird?" Azula replied, her tone showing slight hints of jokiness. Very, very slight hints, but hints nonetheless. "And why do they call you Sonic, anyway?"

When this question was asked, Sonic had a wide smirk appear on his face. Putting his hand out, he would tell her, "Grab my hand and find out."

Azula, who was definitely suspicious about this whole thing, raised an eyebrow. But… since Sonic didn't seem to have any ill intentions, she guesses she would trust him.

For now, anyway.

Azula grabbed Sonic's hand. "Okay, now what? Some magic is supposed to happen or something?" she sarcastically said, as Sonic's smirk never left his face.

"Ehhh… You could call it magic, if you want to." Sonic replied. "Anyway, where's this pond again?"

"It's near home. I'll tell you where to go." Azula assured him, with Sonic giving a nod.

"Nice to have assurance from you." Sonic said, and at that moment, he suddenly blasted off at high speeds, taking Azula completely off guard as this was the absolute last thing she expected to happen. She had no idea Sonic was this fast, and in turn, she started to freak out.

"SINCE WHEN IS ANYBODY THIS FAST?!" Azula screamed, her hair blowing all over the place in the wind as everything was hitting her full force. Honestly, it looked kinda comical to see it happen in real time, especially knowing how Azula is.

"Now you know why they call me Sonic!" Sonic said confidently, as the two would go on to have some fun.
