The Nexus of Souls
Death's Domain
"Wakey, wakey dear," said a delicate, melodic voice, stroking my brows affectionately.
It is a rare occurrence that I felt alright with somebody touching me. In any case, the gentle embrace and the soft murmurings were quite comfortable.
I drowsily opened my eyes just to close them again as I saw the immense spread of nothingness.
I delicately sat up and attempted to focus on the woman sitting before me. She had dazzling dark hair, skin so pale that the sun must be unfamiliar with where she resided, and an attractive figure with adequate curves in the perfect places. If that wasn't sufficient, the smooth robe that adorned her body left nothing to the imagination. Her most striking feature however was her eyes; two dark orbs that drew you in like a moth to a flame.
"I didn't realize that angels existed in hell," the sentence was the first thing that came out of my dazed mind as I looked at her.
She snickered. The sound may have been sweet and pleasant, but it immediately sent shivers down my spine. My instinct was all but flaring to run and hide from her.
"Where am I?" I questioned her.
"Welcome to the Nexus," she said, satisfaction and pride clear in her onyx eyes. "This is where every one of the spirits must stop to go to the hereafter."
"Who are you?" I asked.
"I'm Death. Though you can call me Morticia, darling!" she winked conspiratorially to me.
I reddened vigorously.
"Yes, and I mastered Death after I collected all the deathly hallows," I muttered sarcastically.
Even if I was dead, I could admit that she was one hell of a sexy woman. I didn't at any point imagine that Death would be such a sexy entity. Who would? I always had an abnormal and unhealthy fear of death. We all fear what we can't comprehend. It's human nature after all.
"Happy to see you appreciate me. And it's just the form which I prefer the most. I go by many names and forms after all." she answered teasingly.
I blushed a shade that would've made a tomato envious.
"You can read minds?" I questioned.
It was probably a moronic inquiry considering she was fucking Death incarnate in the form of a supermodel that would've made every single woman jealous. I scolded my brain for such thoughts. This entity could, in a real sense, kill my whole presence with scarcely a thought.
She snickered again. Gods! That was truly humiliating.
"Try not to stress sweetheart, you're too charming to even think about bothering, and yes I can understand minds, and no I won't obliterate your spirit," she said delicately.
I sighed in relief. It was good to know that I was in no danger.
"Wait! Do I even have a body?" After all, dead people were not supposed to have a body.
"It's my domain. Anything is possible if I wish for it." she shrugged.
"You're taking this better than I expected. Not that I interface with mortals that much." Death (or Morticia I suppose) spoke.
"I'm dead. Even I know that I can't be alive if I'm talking to you." I pondered. "So how would I go to the afterlife? I assume that it exists."
She paused, "You can't."
"Why? I don't think you'd want to be stuck here with my company. "
"Spirits shouldn't reach here before their end. You died before your end. You were supposed to live for 110 years before dying of old age and coming here."
"You possibly can't go to the afterlife. It's only meant for souls that are completely free of life energy. You, unfortunately, aren't."
"Please, wouldn't you be able to simply pass my soul on? It's your domain after all." I begged her.
"I can't. Your end isn't close. There are some things that not even I can break. You can get stuck here or I can reincarnate you in another body. Since I'm not always here, you'd have to keep my hellhounds and thestrals company. You might even meet some demons who reside here in my domain.," she explained almost excitedly.
A pause.
"I never knew it's good to have the option to interact with somebody," she said briskly.
The gesture was practically human and I could understand her torment. I assume being an entity like her is a lonely existence. I could sympathize with her.
"There are very few things that hurt more than the torture imposed by one's own heart."
"And what if I choose the second option?"
"The world is far more multi-faceted than you believe. There are worlds that might even what you call imaginary. I can replace your soul as someone that has close connections to me. I know your entire life. A magical world does exist. I can reincarnate you in the body of the twin brother of Harry Potter who has recently died?"
Magic? Twin of Harry Potter? I asked myself, stunned with the revelation.
"Yes. It may have the same aspects as the story you've read, but remember, there are a lot of different things too. Don't try to follow a story. The world isn't as similar to the fantasy story you've read and know. Some things may be different."
"I suppose I can live my life again. It sounds… magical"
"Wonderful," she clapped. "Desire granted."
"I trust you will live long in this reality and not meet me before your time. It would prompt a similar issue again and again. And beware of other things too. Your past isn't your future. You'll be in a child's body so I believe you'll have a happier childhood than your previous life"
I nodded. It was not impossible, considering my luck was shit.
"Won't you be alone again?" I inquired.
"You have been marked by my presence. I cannot influence the mortal world. But since you're marked, I can manifest at places where my presence is very strong."
I nodded.
"I'll be restoring you into the line of Peverell as the current descendent. You'll be established as Ares Alexander Potter. The genuine Alexander Potter has as of late has died so I can supplant his spirit with yours."
"But won't he be dead then? It will be like robbing a body." I asked. It wasn't as if mortals would ever know about death. But still?
"You'll understand when you get there. Not much time is left. Bubbyeee." she winked.
"Are you ready or do u need more time?"
"Goodbye, Morticia. I'm ready." I assured her despite my nervousness
"I shall send you my regards from beyond the veil," came the gentle reply.
She drew nearer and pressed her palms to my face out of nowhere. It was energizing. I felt much lighter. As if all of my interests, all of my torture was essentially non-existent. It was both enthusiastic and delicate to my emotions.
And then I just stopped existing like that.
Another entity suddenly appeared in the vast void.
"Fate," snarled Death angrily, all her peaceful demeanour vanishing in an instant. "You have no right to interfere in my domain. I am so fucking tired of you that had you been not an entity, I would've introduced you to my personal torture chambers."
"You're as pleasant as usual, I see, Morticia," said Fate mockingly.
"I do hope that you have a purpose, as I have no interest in conversing with you, let alone play a part in your plans." Death snarled.
"My, my, associating with mortals Morticia. The three are all children of a prophecy; their fate is entwined with the one that escapes your grasp. I do hope you better appreciate my efforts. Though I think some company may benefit you." drawled Fate.
"I'm far above your plebian machinations you stupid bint. Remember, Entity you may be, no one escapes my grasp. Many have tried and failed. You'll be a fine plaything for me," Morticia purred.
"Says the bitch with a stick up her ass." Fate replied sarcastically.
"Leave, Fate. NOW!" demanded Morticia dangerously. "Remember where you are before I show you out myself. It's not your domain you're standing in. I have every power here."
Fate left in a bright flash. Morticia simply melted into the surroundings, leaving the place away from reality as an empty, endless void. The pleasant place called Nexus had turned into a pit of darkness.
A soul could be seen traversing through the confines of space-time. It soon found what it sought and went into it. Simultaneously, another soul joined the domain of death. At last in peace, free of his sufferings and the tortures of life.
