Chapter 1
Let's Keep an Eye on This
Carlos stood there in shock at what Tracker was telling him. How could such a sweet pup have dreamed up such a thing?
"Carlos," began the Chihuahua nervously, "what's going on?"
Deciding it was probably best to keep him calm, Carlos scriched him between the ears, and told him "Don't worry about it: it just means you really like her. Now Tracker, I need you to hold the fort here while I go run a quick errand."
Little did Tracker know however, that instead of going to run an actual errand, Carlos actually went to the flower shop.
"Buenos Diaz," greeted showed Xochitl at the door.
"Buenos Diaz," he replied before walking into the store.
Maria was surprised to see him, and even more surprised when he asked to talk to her privately in a rather serious tone. She nodded, and the two of them went into a back room and closed the door.
"So, what's going on?" asked Maria.
Carlos took a deep breath and whispered to her about Tracker's dream.
Maria looked back at him, the concern evident in her eyes. "Should we call off the two hikes we had planned tomorrow and the day after then?"
Carlos shook his head. "I don't think he understood what was going on. Still, could you help me keep an eye on them during the two hikes.
"Definitely," she answered.
Little did either of them know, Xochitl had her ear to the door, and had overheard most, but not all of what had been said.
Notes:
Carlos and Maria's reactions: Carlos is nervous that this kind of thing crossed Tracker's mind, because he (Tracker) just isn't ready for this kind of thing. Maria on the other hand treats Xochitl's safety as her first concern, but in general agrees that neither of them are ready for this kind of thing. Note that further down the line, something will come up where they do not exactly agree. I have not yet decided if the two will get in a fight about it at some point.
