Chapter 6
On Embarrassment
Tracker heard Carlos call his name, so naturally, his reaction was to go to him, but as he approached his owner, he noticed Maria and Xochitl there with him. Still feeling shaken up from the previous day, Tracker moved toward them at a slower pace. Anyone looking at him could tell he was nervous. Once he arrived over there, the Xolo approached him and began to speak.
"I'm really sorry about what happened yesterday," she said in an ashamed tone. "I got too nosy, and it must've been really embarrassing for you to have me staring add to your…um…" stumbled Xochitl as she tried again in vain to remember what he had called it. Giving up, she finally just said, "penis." "Sorry, I really don't remember what you called it during that interview," she explained.
Tracker was about to give her the correct answer, but suddenly stopped. He didn't know why, but something about hearing her refer to that part of him by name felt good. He eventually decided to simply say, "That's okay, I don't remember what you said that day either."
"Would you like to know?" asked the hairless invitingly. Part of her did want to tell him, and she was actually curious about what he had said for some strange reason. However, after delivering her invitation she glanced over to her owner, who then shot her a look of, "nice try, but you're not getting out of it that easy".
"Act…actually, can we not talk about this right now, it just feels really weird," stumbled Tracker as is common sense subdued his personal curiosity.
Xochitl nodded in understanding, and then took a deep breath. "Anyway," she began uncomfortably, "Maria wanted me to tell you about this memory."
Tracker could tell by Xochitl's tone that this was something she was embarrassed about.
"Wh-when I was yo-younger, I hadn't a lot of tr-trouble, um, well, ho-holding it," she trembled. She then took another deep breath and looked toward the ground ashamed," and one time, I r-ran toward something to see you what it was, a-and I… I ended up s-sp-spreying everywhere, then I tripped and got covered in, well, um, the mud."
Tracker was hit with the strange mixture of emotions. On the one paw, actually seeing that would have been sort of amusing, but on the other, he could see that this would be super embarrassing, and her struggle to relate this made it clear that that was the case.
Xochitl, meanwhile, hadn't felt this embarrassed since the incident she just described. "That was more embarrassing than, than," she thought as she struggled to find an appropriate analogy. "Then he must've felt the other day!" Then hit her, that was why Maria wanted her to tell him this.
Tracker then looked back at her concerned. "It's all right, that was then, and now is now," he reassured her.
"So, what should we do if… you know, happens again," she asked, gesturing toward between his four legs.
Before Tracker could answer, Carlos came up to them to interject. "the best thing you could do, Xochitl, is to be understanding, and not bring it up if it happens. Maria explained it to you, right?"
The Xoloitzcuintli nodded back.
Carlos then looked back at Tracker. "As for you, just don't pay attention to it.
The Chihuahua nodded back and understanding, and then the two dogs looked toward each other, and began to kiss. Tracker could feel that sensation beginning to come on again, but, as Carlos once told him would happen, he was to learning to anticipate it. Xochitl noticed as well, but true to her promise, she didn't say anything. All the while, Tracker suspected she was aware, but he didn't care. All that mattered to him now was sharing this tender moment with her.
