Little Izumi Midoriya lay in her bed shaking uncontrollably. She pulled the covers tighter around her head to try and drown out the sound of the storm raging just outside her window. She wanted nothing more than to run to her parents room and crawl between them where she knew she'd be safe. Her father was the number 1 hero after all. But she wanted to be brave. To prove that she was strong.
A bright white light lit up Izumi's room for just an instant accompanied by a loud crash of thunder. She screamed as her nightlight went out, throwing off the covers and rushing to her bedroom door. She threw it open and made a beeline for her parents bedroom, tears streaming down her face. With her vision blurred she didn't see when she ran into something solid.
Her father instantly grabbed her up in his arms and she wrapped her arms tight around his neck. She buried her face into the crook of his neck as another crash of thunder shook the house.
"Shhhh. It's ok. Daddy's here," her father gently whispered in her ear. He ran his hand down the back of her head trying to soothe the distraught child. "It's ok," he repeated. He stood like that for a while, gently rocking side to side with his baby girl in his arms. "I'm here."
Izumi pulled her head away from his neck enough to see his face smiling brightly at her. His dark green eyes were so calming to her, making her forget about the storm. He leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, her brown locks tickling his nose.
He brought his hand around and gently wiped the tear streaks from her face. When he was satisfied with his work he started walking to the living room. He sat on the couch, holding Izumi in his lap now, and started humming gently. She recognized the song as one that one of her daddy's friends wrote. It was soft and slow, and as she listened to it the world began slipping away. Her eyelids grew heavier as she felt his chest rumble to the tune of the music.
Even when he felt her breathing even out and her arms go slack around him, he kept humming. The song he hummed was special to him. It was written by a close friend and he felt it would be wrong to leave it unfinished. As he hummed the last note he placed a gentle kiss on his daughters head.
He stood up slowly, so as to not wake her up, and made his way back to his bedroom. His beautiful wife still lay in bed, her stomach round with their second child. Her eyes met his as he entered the room. "How's Izumi?"
"Fast asleep. I figured she could sleep with us tonight." He gently laid Izumi on the bed next to her mother. The girl immediately latched onto her, a content smile spreading on her face as she nuzzled into her mother's chest. Her father climbed in on her other side, his scarred hand gently resting on his wife's round belly. "Good night, Ochako," he whispered softly.
"Good night, Izuku," she whispered back.
