Chapter Three

Olivia and Noah walked to Emma's room. Noah holding Olivia's hand he had gotten a little more nervous as they got closer to the room. They finally arrived at the doorway, she knocked on the door making sure it was safe to enter.

"Yes?" The girl's voice said.

Olivia and Noah walked in. Noah was a bit nervous to see the girl, but slowly started to warm up to her as he got to know her. "Emma, this is my son Noah, Noah this is Emma." Emma gave the boy a warm welcoming smile, knowing her current appearance might be a little frightening to the boy. Noah waved back. "I brought you some clothes from the precinct." she mentioned putting a pear of NYPD sweatpants and crewneck on the bed. Emma took the clothes and went to the bathroom and got changed.

Emma had only the back she had with her the night of the attack which is not in an evidence bag somewhere at the crime lab. So she was thankful that Olivia brought her clothes. She came back out in the baggy sweats. "Ok, I'm ready." Emma said.

"Great, I just finished all the paperwork."

They walked to the elevator which brought them down to the parking garage. It was a little bit of a walk for Emma. Olivia had offered to pick her up at the door, but she insisted on walking. Noah warmed up to Emma, where he offered to take her hand, to keep her safe from the bad guys. Emma kindly took his hand, even though it seemed a bit weird to her.

"Alright, is there anywhere you'd like to go before we head back to my place?"

"Um, yeah actually. Is it possible to stop by the storage unit next to 150th street? I have a few things I'd like to get. If it's not too out of the way."

"Of course." Olivia started the car and drove away. Noah had fallen asleep in the backseat. As she pulled into the parking lot Emma got out and went into the building. Just then Olivia's phone rang. She picked up the phone. The name "Stabler" appeared on her screen.

"Elliot," She said, answering the phone.

"Hey, are we still on for dinner tonight? I know things have been weird between us but I just thought this could still be a good time to talk."

Olivia had totally forgotten about dinner, "Elliot, I totally forgot about that, I actually have a pretty big case I caught last night, and I still have to do the paperwork for it, and send it to the DA's office. Do you mind rescheduling? I'm so sorry."

She could hear a sigh of sadness coming from the other end of the phone. "Of course…" he sounded a bit sad, but he understood that she was dedicated to her job and the victims, just like always. "Give Eli my love." Olivia said and hung up the phone, for Noah was starting to wake up. "Who was that?" He asked with a sleepy voice.

"Just an old friend," Just then Emma, came walking back towards the car. All she had was a small shoe box sized, box, and a small blanket. The blanket had looked familiar to Olivia, but she couldn't quite remember where she had seen it before. "That all?" Olivia asked as Emma got back into the car. Emma nodden. "Mommy I'm hungry." Noah whined.

"Do you want to get something to eat?" Olivia asked, looking at Emma.

"Sure I could eat."

Olivia drove them to a cute little Italian place she always wanted to try. Noah got the spaghetti and meatballs where Emma just got the chicken parm. Dinner was particularly eventful Noah asked Emma all sorts of questions.

"What's your favorite color?" he started with.

"Blue," She answered.

"Favorite movie?"

"Um… Probably Toy Story."

"See mom!"

"You were right Noah. He wants to watch it tonight. I told him that we can watch a movie, only if you are up to it."

"Of course," Emma smiled, this time her smile looked a bit different, it was a smile she had thought she had seen before.

On the car ride home Noah asked a question she had hoped he wouldn't have asked.

"What happened to your parents?" He asked, out of curiosity. Olivia gave Emma a "you don't have to answer that look" but she decided to answer the question after all. "Well, from what I've been told my mother died a long time ago and my father left me and my mom before I was born." To Olivia's surprise she handled that question quite well.

"My parents are dead too. My mom was killed by the bad guys who forced her to have me, and my dad died at court." This however was very shocking to Noah, she had only told Noah the real story about how his parents died a few weeks ago which gave him nightmares. But something Emma must comfort him. They finally arrived at the apartment.

"Let me show you my room!" Noah said, dragging Emma by the hand. "Mommy, where is Emma going to sleep? Can she sleep in my room with me?" He asked his mother, hoping that she would say yes.

"Actually, Noah, I think she's going to sleep in my bed and I sleep out here on the couch."

"But, mom!" He whined.

"Noah, how about, if I'm still here over the weekend, we make a fort in you room and I can sleep in there?" Emma suggested.

"That sounds good. Mom?"

"If she's still here, sure."

They all got into their pajamas and watched the movie in the living room. Olivia let Emma use the bathroom first so she could tuck Noah into bed. Olivia then walked into the room to check in on Emma.

"You have everything you need?"

"Yeah, thanks." Emma said smiling.

"Look, I know it's not my place to ask, but tomorrow, you have school? If not, you can stay here, I just have to go to work in the morning and get all the paperwork done and send it to the DA's office."

"Yeah, my previous foster mom enrolled me in a Catholic school, she said tuition's good for the rest of the year." she paused. "Do I have to do anything?"

"Regarding your case? We will have you come down in a few days once we get new leads. And if we find any suspects we'll have you come down and ID them. Is there anything else?"

"No. Thank you though. For everything."

Olivia smiled and turned off the light and closed the door.
