For a long time in a while, Liam feels peaceful. He sees the sunshine come through the window in his room and it warms his face. He sighs and stretches his arms above his head. His wolf feels content and finally seems to be at rest. Liam is at rest too, and then he hears the familiar sound of his ringtone. He scowls. He cannot avoid everyone forever. He slowly reaches over to his cell phone and answers it.
"Hi…"He says slowly.
"LIAM. WHERE ARE YOU?" Stiles yells.
"I am sorry. I needed a break. I am fine." He says.
He is not lying. He did need a break and he is fine, but he is not willing to share where he is right now. He already knows Stiles will flip out and he does not want to be given another lecture. That is all he seems to get nowadays. Lectures from everyone.
"I told you to stay at the house. I know you get angry, but you should still consider the things I say." Stiles complains.
"I know and I chose to leave. I am not someone you can boss around Stiles. It is getting really old, and I am tired of it." Liam says.
He feels his rage start to build and he tries to breath deeply to calm himself down. He feels it trying to break free and he is on the edge of having another angry werewolf episode. That is what Stiles calls it, but Liam normally calls it dealing with his emotions. He has never been one to deal with his emotions well. Even before he was a werewolf, he always had trouble due to his IED.
The problem is everyone always blames his wolf for everything now. Even when he is slightly angry or upset, everyone assumes that it must be he is a werewolf or because of his amplified anger on the full moon. It cannot be because he is a normal person with feelings, or because his friends are being jerks. It is starting to get on his nerves.
"Where are you?" Stiles asks him again.
"I am at a friend's house." He says.
"Are you with him?" Stiles asks.
"Not right now." Liam admits.
He hears Stiles sigh heavily through the phone. It is his disappointed sigh that he reserves specifically for Liam when he feels he should have listened to him, or when he as done something wrong, according to Stiles. Being the youngest in this pack is starting to have its disadvantages.
"OK, I think your not really understanding how dangerous he is." Stiles points out.
"I am not an idiot. I get that Scott and Theo have a vastly different way of doing things. However, Scott has not been fully honest with me and he expects me too just be okay with it because it is him? That doesn't seem fair." He points out.
"NO one is saying that everyone has made the right decisions in this situation, but you haven't even tried to talk to us." Stiles explains.
"That is because no one is listening to me." Liam complains.
"I am listening to you, but sometimes I can only listen so much, because you make stupid decisions." Stiles argues.
He clenches his fist and tries not to break the phone in his hand.
"Look, that did not…" Stiles starts explaining himself.
"It is okay. I get it. I am going to hang up now and try not to make another stupid decision." He growls disconnecting the line.
He gets out of bed and decides today is not a day he is going to deal with the pack, especially after that little conversation. He heads to the bathroom to take a shower. The water feels nice on his skin and he sighs into it. He watches it go down the drain and wonders how everything became so complicated recently. Oh, that is right, Scott traded him off.
He has really tried not to be mad about it, but he is. He wished he would have spoken to him about it and not assumed that Liam would have been okay with it. He might not be the Alpha, but he was Scott's Beta and he should have consulted him first, especially if he wanted him to spy on Theo. He growls at the thought of it.
He hears a soft knock on the door.
"Yes?" Liam asks.
"It is me. I wanted to talk to you. Are you going anywhere after?" Mason asks.
"No. I will be out soon." He says.
He quickly finishes up and changes quickly. He heads downstairs to see Mason waiting for him at the kitchen table. He is tapping his fingers nervously on the counter. Liam walks over and sits across from him. Both of them sit there for a while. Neither of them wanting to start the conversation, although Liam is not even sure what Mason is going to say. Finally, Mason is the first to speak.
"I…am sorry I didn't talk to you first. I know I should have, but after I talked to Corey, I sort of became nervous and just acted. There was no excuse for it but I am sorry." Mason says.
He looks at his friend's face. He seems sad and looks conflicted. He has not really thought about the toll it would take on the rest of them and how they might feel torn between both packs. Mason might not be apart of Scott's pack, but he clearly respects him enough to talk to him. He must be weird for him to have to make decisions like that. Liam does not want to fight. Mason may be the only friend he has right now.
"I understand. I am sorry I become so angry at you." Liam admits.
"It is okay. I know there is a lot going on and I cannot even imagine how torn you probably feel." Mason says.
Liam nods and looks down at his hands. Is this how it is always going to be? Or is he going to be able to eventually make a decision but lose some people in the process. He groans and hits his head against the table. He hears a door open, and he looks up to see Donovan standing in the doorway.
He looks over at Mason. He almost forgot about Donavan, but now that the cat is out of the bag so to speak, I guess it does not matter that he is showing up unannounced. Donovan studies them and slowly makes his way into the kitchen. He stops in front of Liam and narrows his eyes at him. He makes him feel uneasy and he has never been a fan of Donovan. Not at all.
"So glad you are alive. So nice of you to finally show yourself." Mason says.
"Yes, I know. I heard you asked a lot of questions Mason." Donovan smiles at him.
Liam eyes him wearily. Mason does not seem rattled though. He smiles back and folds his arms over his chest. He reminds Liam of Stiles sometimes. The way he stares people down and doesn't allow anyone to get away with anything. It reminds him of Stiles and his stubbornness.
"Donovan, I thought you were helping Tracy." He hears Theo say.
He turns his head and sees Theo walking in. Donovan glares at Mason one more time and walks out of the house.
It hits Liam that Corey and Mason might be in trouble. They have a lot to lose, and he does not know how much Theo even knows about the situation. Mason took a risk even coming back here, and where is Corey? He looks at his friend nervously, but as expected Mason is looking calm and collected. He gets up and starts looking through his cellphone.
"I am going to go meet Corey. He said he had to do some project at the school. I will see you later?" Mason asks Liam.
"Yeah." He nods.
Liam watches while Theo walks into the kitchen and starts looking through the cabinets. He does not look at him and his eyes are far away. Theo starts writing things down on a notepad and tapping his pencil on the counter. He glances at his phone every few minutes and sends a text. They still have not had a conversation about everything. Bits and pieces but not really. He waits impatiently for Theo to say something.
Theo puts his phone back in his pocket and heads upstairs.
Liam growls and follows him up the stairs and into the bedroom. He waits while Theo starts to pick out some clothes in the drawer and grabs a towel. He starts taking his clothes off and heads into the bathroom. He hears the water run and Liam is about to lose his mind. He is ignoring him like everything is fine, but everything is not fine. He walks into the bathroom and sees the steam causing the mirror to fog. Theo is behind the shower curtain, completely oblivious to Liam and his anger. He cannot take it anymore and he slides back the shower curtain, his eyes flashing at Theo.
Theo turns around and smirks at him. He tilts his head and raises his eyebrows.
"Are you going to ignore me or actually explain something today?" Liam growls, through a mouthful of fangs.
"I was not aware I was ignoring you. What is going on Little Angry Wolf?" Theo asks.
"Are you serious?" He snarls.
"Donovan was not supposed to come back to the house, but he doesn't always listen." Theo says calmly.
Theo continues to wash himself in the shower, but Liam keeps his eyes on his face. He cannot help but think Theo is making fun of him again. He clenches his fist and scowls. His anger starts to build, and he starts to see the familiar red he is used to. He looks down at his hands and starts chanting his mantra. The sun, the moon, and the truth. His eyes continue to flash.
"Hey, relax. Maybe you need a shower too." Theo says.
Before Liam can react, he is pulled into the shower. The water drenches him immediately and his clothes stick to him. He hears Theo laughing at him and he finally looks up. His eyes narrow. Theo is smirking at him and he slides his hands up Liam's shirt. The contact causes him to shiver, and his anger starts to melt away. Theo pulls Liam towards him and kisses up his jawline. Liam places his hand on Theo's waist, while Theo kisses along his neck. His lips meet Theo's and his eyes flash. His wolf sighs into the kiss and his tongue intertwines with Theo's.
His senses become overwhelmed with Theo and he slides his hands along Theo's side. He feels an ache in his stomach and it burns within him. Fingertips brush their way over his cheek and move along his neck, gently squeezing. Goosebumps tingle on his skin and he groans at the feeling.
His head tilts to the side and Theo growls in approval. His hands make his way below Liam's waist and his shirt slides over his head. Liam's head hits the shower wall while he arches up to meet Theo. The water washing away any question that he had.
Later that night Liam slides out of bed and heads out into the hallway. He does not trust Donovan and he wonders if Mason has found anything else out. He stops when he sees Mason at the top of the stairs looking back at him.
"Hi." Mason says.
"Hi." Liam says.
"Are you ready to go?" Mason asks.
"Ready for what?" Liam asks.
"Oh, I thought Brett called you. He said he was going to go check out the tunnels. "Mason says.
His heart falls. He did not realize people are starting not to call him for things. Mason starts to walk down the stairs and turns around to look at him.
"Are you coming?" Mason asks.
Liam follows him down the stairs and out of the house. He does not say anything while they drive over to the tunnels. Mason looks back at him a few times but remains silent. Liam tries to ignore the nagging feeling of not telling Theo what he is up too. He clenches his jaw at the thought of hiding something from him. He stares out the window and watches the raindrops hit the glass.
He turns and sees someone standing in the road. He tries to make out who it is but can barely see anything with the rain pouring down. He hears the tries screech and Mason slams on the break. He grabs the dashboard and the car spins. It slams to a stop and Liam's head hits the back of the seat. He pants and tries to steady his heartbeat.
"Are you okay?" Liam looks over at his friend.
Mason nods.
The door is ripped open, and Mason is pulled out into the rain. He looks around frantically and opens his door. Liam looks around in the rain and tries to see any sign of Mason or something else. He sees nothing. He feels panic start to overwhelm him, and he takes his phone out.
"Put the phone away, or I will rip your limbs off." He hears a voice say.
"I don't know if this is going the way I want it to. Honestly, I had no idea that Liam and Mason were going to become such detectives."
"I know, but it will be fine. Mason has always been like that and it has never been a problem before."
"True, but now I feel dishonest."
"Well, as long as you remember why you are doing this."
"Sort of. Are you sure you have all this under control."
"Yes. Of course."
"OK, because I would rather not have to deal with Scott again."
