Aang was worried, scratch that, he was shit scared of what Azula's letter might mean. Everyone knew Zuko, the Crown Prince of evil who had begun bending at age 2 and was the third firebender that could breath fire like a true dragon. Of course he was shit scared that the weapon of mass destruction was going to be after him in a matter of hours... hours!
"Anything the matter, Aang?" Sokka asked from his seat opposite him as they had their breakfast. Obviously the prince was having some kind of abomination of a food filled with meat and little veggies, Gyasto would hang him in the courtyard forever if he was caught dead with it in his hands.
"Oh its nothing, just a bit nervous about meeting King Bumi and his daughter Princess Toph. I worry he might not be too impressed to find out that in a decade I've only learnt waterbending." And firebending as well, but go ahead and be a dick to your friends by keeping stuff from them. But hey, how does one say the Princess of evil is his best friend and had also taught him firebending?"Trust me, he'll be too relieved to find you alive and well than about your accomplishments." Sokka said. "Me I'm just too excited to meet father and uncle Bato and even help them in resisting the Fire Empire's force in the Northern Earth Nation!"
"Remember what mother said, we have to stick by Aang's side as he learns earthbending. Leave the fighting to father until Aang begins his own fight with the airbenders and earthbenders united with father." Katara said as she ate her meal which was made of mostly veggies like his with a touch of some fish. "So Aang, other than your fear of being a disappointment to your friend, any other worry? Your face was a bit too worrisome to be something that trivial"
Aang shrugged at her words as he put away his impending death from his mind in order to focus on the present. "Yeah, that was it. You know how I usually worry over silly things like that."
"Good because I have a worry I'd love to share with the class. It's about our relationship, where is it heading to?" Katara asked as she wiped her mouth with a napkin.
Sokka snorted and got food into the wrong pipe and proceeded to clear food out of the pipe by coughing and drinking lots of water given to him by Suki. "Are you trying to kill me with that question?" Sokka asked as he cleared his throat and gave Suki grateful nod
"I don't see how that's possible since the question is not directed at you but at Aang." Katara said with an amused look before turning her eyes back to Aang who looked a bit pale.
Aang gulped at her question before looking at Suki and Sokka, the food and the roof all in a bid to somehow avoid the question thrown his way. "I uh... what do you mean?"
"Aang, we are both adults and thus are allowed to be in a sexual relationship filled with kisses and lots of sex. However you treat me like a sister, kissing me on the cheeks in public and having a bit of space in private. Hugs only on my birthday and nothing more. I almost feel like you are seeing someone else and are using me for your war." Katara said with tears at the edge of her eyes.
"Look, I'm not seeing anyone. And the way I am with you is how we airbenders court, we must not do anything other than hold hands and give hugs and kisses on the cheek else we've done evil. It is written in our doctrine, it's those we are friends with that it doesn't stipulate." Aang said.
"Aang, have you ever kissed a girl before?" Azula asked as he played with his purple fire."
No. According to our ways, kissing on the lips is only done by married airbenders, if not married it's wrong.""
Does your tradition say anything about friends not kissing?" Azula asked as she slowly walked up to him in her nightdress and climbed up to her bed.
"No, just those courting. Why, do you want to kiss me?" Aang asked with a smile as he quenched the fire, surely this fifteen year old princess wouldn't want to kiss him.
"I want to practice kissing before I actually do kiss my husband." Azula said with a smile. "Wouldn't you want to practice before you kiss Katara on her wedding night?"
Aang blushed at her words, he had only told her three times that he had a crush on the Southern Water Princess, surely that didn't mean he was going to marry her! She was way out of his league. "Well, only for practice, you promise? I wouldn't want to ruin our friendship over a kiss." Aang said with a warning finger. This was just for practice, he wouldn't want to make a mistake when he probably kissed Katara in the future.
"Of course, only for practice." Azula said and kissed him."
Look, kissing me convinces me that we are in an actual relationship. Only friends and siblings have the kind of relationship we do." Katara said.
"Yeah buddy, kissing girls is fun. Unless if she has bad breath, which my sister most definitely doesn't." Sokka said.
"But..."
"At least spend more time with her. If you spend half the time you spend wandering at night or writing letters to your friend in the Air Nation, with her; she would be happy and feel loved." Sokka said.
Aang shifted in his seat. He'd asked her out because he loved her, he was avoiding any intimacy with her because he was worried, worried that he might end up hurting her or her. Gosh life was so simple when he crushed on her from afar and wrote letters to her from his desk and occasionally saw her.
With a deep sigh he looked at Katara, the girl he truly loved but was letting fear cloud his judgement about her. "I'm sorry Kat, I truly am. I promise to be a better boyfriend to you from now on." Aang said as he held her hand. "Come let us take a flight on Appa like in the good ol' days." Aang said with a grin, reminding her of the fun they'd had as friends.
Katara smiled at his words before she nodded her head in acceptance. "Of course."
Zhao looked through his monocular as his ship took sail. One would wonder why he was looking through the device so soon into the journey to the Northern Water Nation, the answer was simple, he was looking at the Fire Princess one more time before he left for his mission.
The Princess looked quite delicious in her red gown that showed her curves as well as the knives she had on her boots. She was hot as fuck and he was very willing to take her and make her his, however there was the possibility that he'd lose his manhood if he came close to her without Ozai's express permission.
Maybe when he returned with Princess Yue, he could ask for Azula's hand in marriage and hope it was given to him. Putting down his monocular he turned to stare at the sea; for Azula he would do anything, he must have her, he had to. Not just so that he could be married to a princess twenty years his junior but also so that he could have a leg much closer to the throne when something unfortunate befell Zuko.
Patience Zhao, patience and soon the whole world would kneel at your feet
Zuko bowed before his father as he blessed him and charged him publicly to hunt the Avatar and return with him in chains. Zuko would've loved to take this trip with his uncle Iroh, however General Iroh was at present ruling Ba Sing Sae in his father's absence.
He could still remember when the news had hit home, the day Ba Sing Sae fell to his mighty uncle. His uncle had been fighting and gaining ground the usual way of fighting only for his cousin to be killed by a boulder.
Rumour had it that General Iron had gone mad at the sight if his son's death and had unleashed his fury at the great wall of Ba Sing Sae bring it down with a mixture of lightning strikes and fire from his mouth. Many called his uncle a dragon like his father because of that, that was why the day he too had breathed fire he had been put alongside the greatest firebenders of all time with his sister coming fourth at being able to manipulate lightning.
Since then he and his uncle had been seeing much of each other and every time they met, he learnt something new from the old man. Once the Avatar was brought to heel, he vowed to join his uncle in his fight against the Rebels and put them out once and for all.
"Go my son, and return victorious." Ozai said as he shook his hands with a proud smile.
"Get him Zuzu, I mean Great brother of mine." Azula said with a smirk.
"I'll be back with him in no time." Zuko said and left the shores for his ship once in, he looked one last time at his sister who looked a bit worried, she needn't be worried for him, he was not called the third greatest firebender for no reason
Four Days Later...
Captain Jet looked around the village from his hideout, looking for any sign of the thrice damned Imperial soldiers. It had not been easy, travelling two days with three hundred men to escort an entire village back with two hundred of his men. He might have had doubts in Hakoda's plans were he six years younger and still green in battle, but as a 23 year old Captain in a war time, he knew how crazy war could be. A thousand men could fell ten thousand men with enough cunning and strategy. With King Hakoda leading 100 waterbenders whose jobs were to break open the bank once they met opposition or after three hours of waiting from noon and with General Bato leading 100 earthbenders whose jobs were to bring down a mountain between them and the Imperial soldiers in the third village, he was confident of their victory.
He remained there with his men scattered around the village as they all waited with baited breath for the firebenders. An hour later he saw them, about five thousand of them on the back of rhinos charging for the village.
A bird whistle later, arrows began to rain on the approaching enemy with such a force that many were thrown off their beasts. Jet remained hidden as did many swordmen all waiting for the archers to thing the numbers before attacking.
By the time their arrows were down, four thousand men remained, 4000 angry firebenders. The enemy began to send balls of flames to the trees which burnt many archers and threw others to the ground. Their assault wasn't over as they began to throw fire to every house which forced Jet's men to run out of them and charge at the firebenders. It was bloody from his hiding place, many nonbenders were burnt with the fire carelessly thrown about, however Jet wasn't scared, King Hakoda had been fighting these firescum for a long time, if he said this was the right plan, then it was.
With a yell, he attacked smartly, ducking and dodging sometimes flipping every ball of flame thrown at him until he got close enough to begin to butcher the firebenders. One thing about the firebenders was that they were weak when attacked in close quarters, so using that to his advantage he killed a couple of them.
When the survivors saw what he was doing, they joined in until he heard it, rushing water coming with so much speed that they all paused their fighting.
"RETREAT" The Imperial commander yelled and turned around just as Jet and his men retreated.
Once a safe distance away, the water arrived like a menacing creature and drowned everything in sight, including the firebenders who had no idea that they were in the water's path unless if the ran a couple of kilometres back, which they couldn't in five minutes.
"Well, that was epic, how many died?" Jet asked his men.
"None, most of us are simply injured."
"Good." What a victory, General Iroh better have more tricks up his sleeves because this was just embarrassing for a man of his standing.
