I do not own Genshin Impact or Fate.
English is not my strength so apologies for any errors.
Thank you for the support and comments.
Before the story begins, answering questions: 1) Fleyja Yuki: If he finds him worthy then yes, he can.
2) Schwarzritter: That is a great idea! So yes I totally 100% intended that!
3) P.O.W.E.R: Don't worry I plan to increase the number of servants in this story and Kayneth won't be stuck only with Iskandar forever. A lot of story aspects I'm still trying to work out but the main reason I want to include Iskandar is for the debate on rulership but also the ideas of how long a ruler be they god, human, or mix (cough Gil) should stay in authority.
4) Guest: We will see the Adepti but not as servants. For Zhongli's power I want to try and make them as accurate to the game's lore and mechanics as possible.
With that all said I hope you all enjoy!
The Magi of the modern era are known to be secretive above all else, in order to keep the waning wonder of Mystery alive. Magi keep secrets from the general public. Different factions of the Clocktower keep secrets from each other, families hide discoveries from other families, and of course an individual Magus will keep their craft a mystery to all but themselves. Some even to the point that their very own existence is in question by others.
Despite the major role secrecy played in the world Waver Velvet had entered a few years ago he had never considered it (outside of the general rules of the Clocktower) with any levity before. Well, let it be said that Waver Velvet amateur magus and participant of the fourth Holy Grail War was on the verge of turning into one of the most secretive and paranoid Magi in history. All in an attempt to prevent news of the events happening right now from reaching the Clocktower less he become the greatest laughingstock in the multi-century long legacy of the institution.
"I'm sorry for hypnotising you with magic and making you think that I was your grandson. I promise not to do it again. Can you please forgive me and let us…" Waver motioned to his servant who was standing in the corner with his arms crossed crossly, "…stay at your house?" He finished by bowing at a ninety-degree angle to the elderly Australian couple.
Glen and Martha Mackenzie starred at the duo for a few moments, their eyes meeting to discuss the matter in the only way a long-married couple could. Waver gulped, besides being in trouble with Zhongli for not making a proper contract with the elderly couple, do to it not involving free consent and thus not resulting in equal transaction. He really didn't want to sleep outside in the cold tonight.
The couple surprisingly finished their hidden dialogue in but a few seconds and turned towards Waver, "Well… were willing to forgive you and offer you a place to stay for as long as you need." Mr. Mackenzie said first, slowly and calmly as he brushed his beard with his hand.
Waver on the outside kept his straight face although on the inside he thought, Yes! They had a place to sleep tonight.
"But there is one thing you have to do for us in return." Mr. Mackenzie finished as he crossed his arms over his chest much like Zhongli.
Great thought Waver with a sweat, now he had to deal with divine and mortal punishment.
"You see… We've always wanted a grandson!" Mrs. Mackenzie instantly hugged Waver with a big smile and proceeded to smother him in head pats.
"Thank you for your hospitality and understanding, we'll make sure to reimburse as an added apology." Zhongli said elegantly before shaking Glen's hand.
"Oh nonsense, you don't have to do anything like that, honestly just meeting you is enough! To think magic exists!" Martha stated as she continued to pat Wavers head.
"You are quite generous, we will answer any questions you have in regard to magic as part of your reimbursement." Zhongli said.
Gah! Wave clenched his heart. Non magi learning about magecraft was against Clocktower rules!
But more importantly for that moment.
GAH! Non-magi learning about new magecraft before him, the actual magus!
Is this what the wrath of the rock felt like?!
It was a good thing no one could see his face which was currently hidden by Martha's smothering hug because he was on the verge of breaking.
He would have told Zhongli off for revealing magecraft to the Mackenzie's. But it turned out he himself had insured that they figured it out as his spell work was quite flawed to say the least.
Dam it! Why did he have to be so bad at this! He was supposed to-
"Waver are you alright?" Asked a concerned Martha as she felt Waver's body shake.
"I'm fine!" The boy shouted as he jumped back before proceeding to flatten his creased sweater with a little bit of embarrassment.
The Mackenzie's looked at him with worry as a parent would a child. The entire house was silent as no one including his servant spoke for a few seconds.
Thankfully Zhongli eventually decided to speak up and end the awkward situation for Waver, "You once again have our thanks for your forgiveness and letting us stay here but for our contract to be complete it must be equal."
As Zhongli continued to talk Waver thought of how different master and servant were at this moment. He was supposed to be the calm, stable, and relaxed one. The one like a mountain in the face of the wind. But instead, he flew up at the simplest of situations
"Thus, I would like to offer you payment for our stay here." The god finished as he then placed his hand in his pocket and then set it on the table before opening it to reveal an abundance of golden coins.
The three other people in the room paused and each blinked three time in unison before finally all saying, "Ehhhhh!"
"Why do you have a pocket full of gold!" Exclaimed Waver as he picked up a coin and examined it.
"It's called Mora, a universally excepted form of currency in Tyvat which can be used for other purposes as well besides trade." Replied Zhongli.
"Oh, Mr. Zhongli there's no need for you to give us such wealth." Martha said while flushed at the magical treasure before her.
"No please, as humans of old age you should enjoy your remaining years in comfort. This is the least we could do."
The god sure was fascinated by human life spans thought Waver as he recalled what Zhongli had remarked about in regard to his own goals and life while at the Ramen shop with… With…
Wavers thoughts trailed at the people around him continued to talk.
"Well in that case were spending a good portion of this treasure on you, with the best home cooked meal you've ever tasted! Here let me prepare you a late-night drink, you got any preferences?" Glen asked.
The Ramen shop, where he had bought every type of Ramen the store had to offer…
"I'll try all the flavours you have if that's not any trouble." The god said humbly.
"No problem just give me a minute." Glen said as he started taking some bottles and cans out from the kitchen drawers and fridge.
The Ramen shop where he had spent… "Hey wait a minute! If you had a pile of gol- I mean Mora in your pocket why did I end up paying for all those books and Ramen?!" Waver asked in a shout.
"I didn't realise that I was able to create it at the time, not to mention the business owner was unlikely to except the currency. Although now that I think about it there's unlikely to be a currency exchange here which excepts Mora, as a result for it to be of use we'll have to sell it as a raw material in order to acquire local currency. My apologies it appears we will not be able to pay you back fully yet." The god of commerce said.
That explanation… made sense, Waver admitted internally.
Also… Morax, Mora. Mora, Morax. Huh, well people with less power had been put on money for less he supposed.
He was beginning to see how the god before him only just now realised that the people of Earth wouldn't recognise his currency as official.
Also, where to find someone who would except such a material, it may have looked like gold at first glance but the mana coming of it told a different story. Hard to believe Zhongli's people actually used this stuff so casually as currency.
"Oh, it's no trouble at all. Now sit down and relax." Glen said to Zhongli as the tray full of drinks was brought out.
"Is it okay if I take a few coins? I'd like to do a bit of research on this material myself." Waver asked as he put a few moore coins in his hand.
"By all means." Martha said as Zhongli nodded to Waver.
Waver put the Mora in his pocket while turning to Morax, "Thanks, I have to go out and make a call about the research we talked about early. I'll be back in a few minutes."
"Are you sure, the news said there's a serial killer going around during this time of night." Martha said worryingly.
Zhongli raised an eyebrow at that and turned to Waver and prepared to speak only to have Waver say, "Its fine! I'll be safe after all I do have magic! And if I do need any help, I can just call Zhongli." By the Root if anyone at the Clocktower ever heard these words he would be done for to the point that there wouldn't even be a corpse left to burry.
Zhongli sat back in his seat and gave a nod to Waver as Glen said, "All right, all right, but make sure to come back. Wizard or not everyone needs some time to rest grandson."
Waver sputtered and an audible gurgle could be heard from his throat as he moved to correct them for the crime of calling magi wizards let alone the grandson remark. But he stopped himself and just said with his head sunk low, and a thumbs up, "Got it, be back in 30 minutes tops."
With that he went out the door to get to the nearest telephone line, hoping that Melvin was still up at this hour half a world away.
