Frigga was looking for her niece again. She was never where she was meant to be. She found her with her feet dangling over a balcony, looking out over the city.
"Sigyn, there you are."
"Is it about to start?"
"It is, come." Frigga held her hand out for the young lady, she watched as she spun round on the balcony, slid off and landed on her feet.
Sigyn took hold of her aunt's arm and they walked to the great hall, today her cousin Thor was to be crowned the new king of Asgard. She took her place in between her aunt and her cousin, who was in truth her best friend, Loki. Since childhood the pair had been inseparable. He glanced over at her.
"You're late."
"Am not."
He nudged her with his arm, and she nearly turned to push him back, when they heard Odin, clear his voice, looking at the pair. With a quick smile to her uncle, she turned and stuck her tongue out at Loki. Frigga shook her head, unsure if standing the pair of them next to each other for this ceremony was a good idea.
As Thor approached the cheering and shouts grew louder, he winked over at her and Frigga as he knelt before Odin. She listened as her uncle spoke, she looked down when she felt Loki squeeze her hand, turning and giving him a quick smile.
Odin froze then, he stopped short of declaring Thor king, causing Sigyn's attention to turn to him fully.
"Frost giants." Odin declared and banged his spare on the ground, she knew this summoned the Destroyer. Both her cousins went to follow her uncle, as she stepped to go with them, she felt Frigga grab her hand.
"No, child."
Sigyn huffed and left the hall muttering to herself. She returned to her room, slamming the door behind her. She went out to the balcony, grabbing one of the many books on her way past, and collapsing in the chair outside. She had been sitting there for about half an hour, when she heard hoofbeats. She looked down from the balcony and saw her cousins riding down the rainbow bridge, another battle she was to be left out of. What was the point in being the goddess of warriors, if you never actually rode into any battles? She had been trained like all the rest, alongside her cousins she had proven to be a feist warrior, but as she grew, she was removed from that, to be taught to be a lady after her uncle claimed a goddess, should be trained to counsel a husband and king.
She heard their prayers then, like a lover's whispered words, she listened wondering what they had done this time. She heard more hoof beats then, but this time it was her uncle riding down the rainbow bridge, this was not going to end well.
A few moments passed in peace before there was a quiet knock on her door. "Come in." It was Frigga that entered. "What have they done this time?"
"They have gone to Jotunheim, your uncle has gone to retrieve them." Frigga replied with a look of disappointment.
"This isn't going to end well, is it?"
Frigga stroked the young woman's hair, so young and yet already so wise. "No I don't think it is."
Sigyn watched from her balcony, as they all came back. That was, all but Thor. Upon noting this she excused herself and rushed to find Loki. She spotted him heading to the weapons vault and followed close behind him and was about to speak, when she heard the door open again. She hid behind a pillar. She listened carefully to his and Odin's conversation, not truly understanding what was meant until Loki turned around and she saw him. He was blue like the frost giants. She quickly threw her hand over her mouth to hide the shocked squeak from leaving her lips.
Odin began to explain, and she watched as Loki raged at him. "I had thought to have you marry Sigyn, you both care for each other, it would have joined our two worlds and made peace."
Loki shouted again then, Sigyn saw Odin reaching out for Loki and watched as he fell to the steps. Loki ran to his side, as did she. They both shouted for the guards and Odin was carried away.
Loki turned to look at his cousin. "How much did you hear?"
"All of it." Sigyn noticed the look in his eyes, he looked hurt, ashamed, she reached her hand out and took hold of his. "Nothing has changed for me, you are still my friend, my cousin, the one person I trust more than anything."
Loki looked at her, she was smiling at him, and he could never stay angry or grumpy when she was around, he smiled back at her. Interlinking their fingers, as they followed the guards.
"What about the whole marriage thing?" He asked broaching the subject after a few moments of silent walking.
"Well I could think of worse husbands."
"If he told you, we were getting married, you wouldn't have put up a fight?" Loki was a little shocked by that to say the least. He felt her pull at his arm and looked down, noting that she had stopped.
Sigyn reached up and ran her hand over his cheek. "You're my best friend, of course if uncle had told me, I was to marry you, I would have found it strange and maybe have questioned him a little. I have never looked at you that way. However, I do love you Loki. I could have grown to be in love with you."
Loki lifted one of her hands and kissed it. "I love you too."
"Plus, think of all the things we could do as a married couple. I mean we're pretty awesome now, but together, well…" She winked at him, and he laughed.
If only she knew, he was madly in love with her and had been since they were small children.
