Sigyn stayed with Frigga as they watched over Odin who was laid out in front of them, Sigyn looked from her aunt to her uncle. She had been very young the last time this had happened. It was in moments like this she wished Thor was here, he was the strong one. He always made her feel brave. She stood as Loki entered the room, he seemed different somehow.

"I'll give you two a minute." Sigyn stated as she made to leave.

Loki reached out and grabbed her hand gently, stopping her a moment. "You can stay."

"I know, but I think it's best I don't for now." She kissed his cheek and left.

Frigga noticed the actions between the two of them. They had always been close, ever since they were children. She remembered finding them in the gardens one day. They couldn't have been older than 10. She had stood out of view and had listened into their conversation. They stood facing each other, Loki holding Sigyn's left hand in his right.

"Loki, what is the one thing you want in all the world?"

"I want to be with you always."

Frigga watched as the young girl punched him on the arm, he rubbed the spot on his arm and grabbed her hand again.

"I mean it. I want us to be together forever. You're my best friend, Sigyn."

Frigga noticed the young girl smile then; she was a mixture of her own two boys. She was brave and impulsive like Thor, but smart and cunning like Loki. The Goddess of Warriors.

Sigyn released Loki's hand, Frigga noticed her son's face fall. Then the girl held out her little finger, Loki looked at her.

"You need to hold out the little finger on your hand, then we intertwine them and make a promise."

"That sounds silly, where did you learn that?"

"Heimdall showed me some children in Midgard. They do it all the time there."

Loki stared at his friend for a minute and then locked his finger around hers.

"I Sigyn, Goddess of Warriors, promise to be by your side always. No matter what stupid things you do." She stuck her tongue out at him.

"I Loki, God of Mischief, promise to be by your side always. Even when you marry on oaf."

They shook their hands then and their promise to each other was made.

Now Frigga sat and watched from her husband's bedside as her son gazed after Sigyn as she left the room. "You should tell her." She stated, with a smile. When he simply raised his eyebrow at her she continued, "she loves you too."

Loki turned his head fully to his mother. "She deserves better than me."

"I dare you to tell her that. That girl has always made up her own mind about things. She has never let anyone tell her what to do."

Loki smiled, no she really hasn't. She had even stood up to Odin once or twice.

….

Loki found Sigyn in the gardens, she was sitting with her head in her hands. She looked up as he approached. She rose to her feet calmly and he noticed both her fists were clenched.

"Loki, what have you done, where have you been?" She looked him up and down slowly noting his change of clothing and the fact he was carrying Odin's staff.

"I am king now, I have matters to attend to." He watched as she got down on one knee in front of him, bowing to him. He dropped the staff and placed his hands either side of her shoulders and pulled her up. "What are you doing?"

"Bowing to my king."

He noticed the stern, coldness to her voice. She was mad, he knew it. He could always tell when she was utterly pissed off. "You don't have to bow to me."

"Why did you tell Thor, Odin was dead? I heard his prayers, he was praying for the strength to carry on, praying to be worthy of everyone's forgiveness."

Loki grabbed her hand, he needed her of all people to understand. "I'm doing this for us. So we can start fresh. So we can be…."

"... Us? We? No Loki, you're doing this for you!" She turned to walk away from him, she was ashamed of him right now. He wasn't the person she knew, the person she loved. Her best friend had disappeared.

Loki grabbed her arm this time, roughly, dragging her back to him, so she stood mere inches from him. "You don't get it do you? I love you, Sigyn. With everything I have. You're the only one that fully understands me. I want you by my side, I want you to be my queen."

He kissed her then, his lips meeting her harshly, his hands holding her to him. He needed her to understand that he was in love with her. Sigyn stamped down on his foot, making him break the kiss.

"What the hell are you doing?! I'm not some starry-eyed child who dreams of love and happiness ever after."

"You, told me, you would have married me if you had been told too. That you could grow to be in love with me. Then do it, marry me? Be my queen, and rule Asgard with me?"

Loki released her arms, Sigyn looked him up and down. Her hand went to his cheek, and she ran her hand over it. What had happened to the sweet young boy she had always known.

"I'm sorry Loki, I can't marry you. I don't recognise this man standing in front of me right now."

She started to walk off, he grabbed her again, this time cuffs appeared on her wrists. Her eyes shot up to meet his.

"You promised to always stand by me, even when I did stupid things."

"And you promised to stand by me when I married an oaf, looks like one of us is going to break that promise."

He grabbed the chain between her cuffs and pulled her to him. "Oh you will stand by my side, whether you want to or not."

She growled and launched her head forward to headbutt Loki only for him to pull away at last second making her look like a fool. He smirked. "Careful now."

…...

Sigyn found herself chained to the wall of Loki's room. Nothing she tried could break the chains. She could hear all their prayers, everyone of their friends, of Thor. praying the destroyer would stop, praying they would all return safe. Tears fell from her eyes and rolled silently down her cheeks, for her friends and for the man she had lost.

She had no idea how long she had been in the room, when the doors burst open, and Frigga stood in front of her. She knelt down and using her magic released Sigyn from her bonds.

"Did he hurt you?"

"No, yes. But not physically." Sigyn grabbed her aunt then, hugging her. Frigga ran her hands over her hair.

"What did he do?"

"He made me his queen. He had us married." Frigga held the girl closer then. She rested her head on her aunt's shoulder.

"You must stop him."

"How?" Had she not just heard her words. Why on earth would she want her to help him. The man was a fool and deserved to be punished for this.

"Go to him. Make him see sense."

"Sense seems to have left him right."

"Please go and stop my boys from ripping each other apart. We can fix everything else."

The heartbreak in Frigga's voice made her relent. Sigyn got to her feet and ran toward the stables, grabbing her horse by the halter and jumping on board. She pushed him as fast as she could, urging him to go faster and harder down the bridge. She saw Thor raising his hammer over and over again, feeling the bridge vibrate beneath her. She jumped from her horse and ran to Loki; she grabbed his arm and he turned and looked at her.

"Please, end this."

"It's too late."

He pushed her off him and she fell to the floor. Loki ran towards Thor as the bridge exploded. She felt arms around her waist, to keep her safe, she turned to see her uncle. He released her and made it to the end of the bridge in time to catch Thor by his leg. She sprinted towards them all. As she looked over the end of the bridge, she saw Thor holding Loki's sceptre, Loki hanging on to the other end.

"I could have done it, Father! I could have done it! For you! For all of us!"

"No, Loki."

Her eyes had never left Loki. she saw the despair and sadness in his eyes and didn't realise what was happening till she heard Thor.

"Loki, no!"

She watched him fall, watched him disappear. She couldn't do anything, she could hear Thor screaming, but she was frozen.

"No." she heard Odin whisper.

Odin placed Thor on the bridge. Sigyn was still staring into space, he was gone. He had broken their promise, he would no longer be by her side. She felt arms under her then, when she finally looked, it was Thor that had scooped her up. She nestled herself into his chest, silent tears falling down her face.

Thor placed her on her bed in her room, she hadn't spoken, the whole way. As he made to leave her, she grabbed his hand.

"Will you stay with me awhile. I don't want to be alone."

Thor climbed onto the bed next to her, she nestled herself back into his chest and arms. Her and Thor, hadn't been as close as her and Loki, but they did love each other.

"He broke his promise. And he thinks I broke mine first. I would never have left him. No matter what he did, I would never have left him. I was so angry and hurt and confused. But I would still have been by his side through everything. Through everything your father would have thrown at him. And now he will no longer be by my side."

Thor kissed the top of her head. "He loved you, Sigyn. He loved you with his last breath. Never forget that." Thor stayed with her till she fell asleep. He covered her over with a blanket and left the room.

Stepping outside he saw his mother standing close by in the hall.

"How is she?"

"Lost."

Frigga placed her hand on her son's cheek. "While you were gone, Loki and Sigyn were married. He had them married so she could be his queen."

"Did he hurt her?"

"No, your brother has done many things over the last few days, but he would never have hurt her."

Thor hugged his mother. He made a promise to himself right then, to protect and look after Sigyn, be her friend and make sure he was always by her side, he would try his hardest to be to her what his brother had been.
