Please forgive me. There was a typo at the top of the last chapter. I'm NOT killing Jack off! Have plans for the 2 of them together for a very long time. Sometimes auto correct kicks in before I can catch it. Please keep reading. Thanks for all the reviews. Without them I would not have caught the typo!

Chapter 14

The Crash - part 3

Elizabeth wakes up the next morning. Pours herself a cup of coffee. As she takes a sip, she notices that it's still hot. She says, WOW wasn't expecting that! She finished her coffee, gets up and goes into the bathroom to change. She still isn't wearing any makeup. There's no need. She says, this isn't the time or place to worry about it. She goes back into the room, sits down in her chair to call Charlotte. Charlotte says, hello, good morning Elizabeth. Has there been any changes? Elizabeth says, no ma'am. I need to pick my father up at the airport this morning. He's supposed to call me as soon as he gets here. I needed to know if you would sit with Jack while I'm gone? Charlotte says, you know he'll be ok while your gone. I know, I just don't want him ever to be alone while I'm gone, she said. Charlotte says, I'll be glad to. Just call me when you get your phone call. I'm less than 10 minutes away from the hospital. Elizabeth says, thank you I will. I won't be gone any longer than I have to.

Ellooks at the clock on the wall. She says, it's 10:45. She picks up her phone to call her father and her phone rings. It's her father. Father are you here? He says, yes we are at the tarmac. Elizabeth says, great. I'll be right there. She calls Charlotte to tell her that her father just landed. Charlotte says, ok Tommy is on his way. Jarrick didn't want me to leave him. I suspect he knows something is wrong. So anyway Tommy is on his way. Elizabeth says, thank you. Give Jarrick a big hug and a kiss for me. Tell I love him very much! Maybe I can come by and get him to take him back to the house to play with his train and just hang out with him and spend some time with him. If that will be alright? Charlotte tells her that will be fine anytime you get ready. She thanks her and hangs up. About that time Tommy comes through the door. Elizabeth tells him thanks for sitting with him. Tommy says, no problem. I don't mind at all. You need to take time for yourself. She replies, I'll start doing that when I know he's out of the woods and home. I have to know he's going to be alright. He just has to be. Jarrick needs him so much. I need him so bad. I do believe he's my soulmate. Can you understand what I'm trying to say? I can't live without him. We just told each other that we love each other. I can't lose him now. I can't believe that God brought us this far to pull us apart. I thank Him everyday for bringing us together. She kisses Jack gently then reaches up and kisses Tommy on the cheek. Please take care of him for me until I get back!

Elizabeth gets to the airport to pickup her father. She pulls up to the tarmac, she gets out of her SUV and starts walking up to her father's airplane. She stops when a second person steps out. She screams, MOTHER! Her mother gets to the bottom of the steps. Elizabeth runs up to her and hugs her lightly but tight. Elizabeth is crying. She says, mo..th..er I did..n't..know you were com..ing. Her father reaches over and hugs them both. He says, she wasn't supposed to but she wouldn't stay at home, she said that she was coming with me no matter what I said! Elizabeth backs up a little and says, I'm so glad you both came. I have so much to tell you both. William tells the pilot to put their bags in the back of her SUV. They turn each other loose and get in her SUV. William opens the back passenger door for Grace. He takes her hand for her to get in and sit. He gets in the front passenger seat. Elizabeth gets in and starts driving to her place. Grace asks, how have you been doing my dear? You look very tired. Elizabeth says, I'm doing fine mother. I don't get to much sleep with the nurses coming in every 2 hours taking vitals but I'm good mother. Her father reaches over and squeezed her hand. She turns and gives him a slight smile.

Elizabeth pulls into her driveway. She tells them that this is where I live. It's all mine. Grace says, Lizzy it's beautiful! Her father says, you bought this all by yourself, Lizzy? She says yes sir. I bought it out right. I got a good deal on it by paying in full. He had to ask, how do you know you got a good deal, Lizzy? Well father, I checked the appraisal, what other houses we're selling for on all 4 sides. I got it for almost 1/2 the appraisal because I bought lock stock and barrel. Father you didn't raise no fool. Wait until you see the inside, I didn't have to have any remodeling or repairs done. The day I bought it, I ordered all the furniture and furnishings and had it all delivered and put away before I got here. Shall we go in? They get out and go in.

As Elizabeth unlocks the door, they walk in. William and Grace are amazed. Oh my, Grace says. Elizabeth speaks up and says, it's not big but it is home. I love my first home. She shows them her back yard through the window. This is my favorite place to sit, she said. It is so peaceful out here. William asks, is that your shed too? Elizabeth replies, yes sir. Come see. They walk out and Elizabeth opens the door and turns on the lights. William asks, it's heated too! Yes sir, she said. He asks, what is under the tarp? Elizabeth lifts the tarp off and William's eyes open wide in amazement and says, wow Lizzy I didn't know you were in to trains. She says, I'm not really, Jack and I bought it for Jarrick. They play for hours out here. William says, I'll bet they do but why is it here instead of his house? Father , when it came to Jarrick's Christmas present I asked Jack what I could buy for him. He told me not to worry about it I told him not to even go there. So we went to the toy store down the street. We walked around until we came to the trains and I asked him if Jarrick had a train set. He told me no because they didn't have enough room at their house. So I told what if I buy him one and they could set it up in my shed, it has heat. He agreed but said he wanted to go in halves. I agreed and here it is. Lizzy you have gone out of your way for this little boy. Mother I love that little man so much. I couldn't love him anymore if I had gave birth to him. She covers it back up to keep the dust off. They step back in the cabin and she gives them the tour. She shows them to their bedroom. William put their luggage down on the luggage stand. Elizabeth hugs them both and says, I'm so glad your both here. Welcome to my humble abode! Make yourself at home.

Elizabeth steps out and heads back to the kitchen. She puts on a pot of coffee and heats the kettle for tea. Her parents come back into the kitchen and sit at the bar. Elizabeth set a cup of tea in front of her mother and a cup of coffee in front of her father. After a little bit of small talk Grace asks, what is Jack's prognosis? Elizabeth explains, they had to put him into medically induced coma because of a brain bleed. They say once the bleeding stops and the swelling goes down then they can bring him out of the coma. William asks, do they know how long it will take? Elizabeth says, they don't know. It just depends on his body. Dr. Huggings says that it could take a couple of days to months. I pray it is only a couple of days. Grace asks, do you stay at the hospital Lizzy? Yes mother I do. Grace says, you know Lizzy that is really inappropriate. MOTHER, I don't care what's inappropriate right now. I love that man with all of my heart and soul! What's inappropriate to sit in a hospital room with a man that's in a coma? The nurses take care of all his personal care. I sit and talk to him just as if he was awake. I kiss him and tell him how much I love him and need him. William speaks up and says, Lizzy we know that you are stressed out right now but you need to watch your tone with your mother. She still deserves your respect. Yes father. I'm sorry mother. Grace touches her hand and squeezes gently. We are here for you my darling Lizzy. Are you both hungry? They say a little. Elizabeth goes to her freezer and pulls out some chicken parmigiana and puts it in the oven to bake. She starts the water for the pasta. Grace and William look at each other with amazement. They did not know she could cook. They watch her walking around her kitchen knowing what she's doing. When the pasta is finished she puts it in to drain. She puts the garlic bread in to toast. She sets the table for 3. She takes the garlic bread from the oven. Elizabeth put the food on the table and asks her parents to join her please. They all sit to eat. Elizabeth asks the blessing, kind Heavenly Father we want to thank you for everything that you've done for us thus far. We ask that you bless this food for the nourishments for our bodies. We as that touch Jack as we speak, make the swelling go down on his brain. We ask that you touch his body and heal him from the top of his head down to the tips of his toes. Lord I thank you for giving my parents safe travels. In Jesus name. Amen. Her parents look at on another. William squeezes Grace's hand gently then look back it their food. Elizabeth asks, what! I'm not going to poison you. She cuts a small piece of chicken then swirled her pasta in her spoon. Then she takes a bite. Grace says, it's not that we think you're going to poison us dear. It's just we didn't know you knew how to cook. Elizabeth swallows and laughs, how do you think I got through college? My roommate Rosemary said that if I was going to be her roommate I had to learn how to cook. She said that it wasn't fair for her to cook for me all the time. I had 4 years to learn. There isn't anything that I don't know how to cook. If I ever run up against something that I haven't learned then I know how to go about cooking, baking, grill, broil. No matter what. I'm totally self sufficient. I don't have to rely on anybody. I'm really super proud of myself. Oh Lizzy we are both so proud of you. We had no idea! There's a lot that you don't know about me. I'm pretty good with a hammer. I can do miner plumbing. I knew I didn't want to be beholden to someone to fix things around the house because I knew I would eventually be on my own. So in college I took a course on fixing miner repairs around the house. No need to call someone to fix the little things around the house. Save that for major things. William speaks up, really Lizzy? Yes father. Just because I have money don't mean to squander it. I'm proud of the way you both raised me but I wanted more. Lizzy we are so proud of the self determination that you have! Everyone finishes their lunch. Grace and William thank her for such a delightful lunch and said it was delicious! Elizabeth gets up and cleans up he dishes and puts them in the dishwasher and turns it on.

Elizabeth tells them that she needs to get back to the hospital. They all get their coats from the closet and William helps Grace on with hers. They all leave the house but William turns to lock the door. Elizabeth tells him to just pull it shut. It automatically locks. She walks over to the door and shows him the button on the inside that makes it that way. You push it when you go in and if your expecting company then just tell them to come in just in case I'm busy. When company leaves I just push it again and they can't open the door. I had that installed. I had all my security installed. There's a video system in the back of my walk in closet. It automatically turns on when all the lights go out or there is no one home. There's no wires leading to anything. If there is a break in then they can't cut the system off. William says, I'm impressed. You need this kind of system father. I'll email the company to you. They shut the door and get in her SUV and head to the hospital.

Elizabeth shows her parents where everything is. As she is driving they drive past the rescue station. William asks, is that where Jack works? Elizabeth says, yes father. They really only have 1 helicopter? Well not anymore but I'm sure they had insurance. As they pull up in the parking lot at the hospital Grace asks, is this the only hospital in town? It's really small. Elizabeth says yes mother. If the injury is something to big to be handled here then they are lifelited out the nearest hospital that can handle the injury. Some have to be sent all the way to Denver. Grace asks, does that happen very often? Well mother we don't have a trauma unit. Grace and William just look at each other. Elizabeth asks, would you like to come up and see Jack. I truly believe he can hear me. They both say yes.
