Chapter 8- Story Continuation and Recap
Hello, hello! I'm back! I published this story in January of 2019, and I put this on hiatus in June of 2020. Can you believe it's already July of 2021?! Thank you all so much for your patience and kind words as I took a break from this story, but I am very happy to announce that "Night has Come" is officially back!
Every chapter of this story has been updated, but don't worry all of your favorite scenes are still there I just changed the format a little and corrected some grammar and punctuation errors. The hiatus announce has also been updated to say that it is no longer in hiatus but I'm not going to delete it since I don't want to lose all of your comments.
Since it's been a while since this chapter has been updated, there is a "previously on" right after the line break! If you need a refresher on the events of this story, be sure to check it out! One last thing- for those of you waiting for my other Voltron story entitled "Stranded" that story is still on hiatus at the time of this posting, but I hope to get to that story soon as well.
NOTE- To keep things from getting too confusing in the chapter slides, I am counting both of these announcements as chapters so that way everything lines up correctly. So, the last actual chapter was Chapter 6, the hiatus announcement is Chapter 7, this chapter is Chapter 8, and the story will continue with Chapter 9.
Previously on Night has Come…
Alta City police chief Alfor sighed as he gazed across the numerous reports that littered his desk. They had their normal purse snatchers, car thieves, and shoplifters, but due recently more sinister plots were arising. The dangerous Galra Gang was growing not only their numbers, but also in power. They were becoming bolder as they executed their plans and strike fear into the hearts of the people of Alta City. The police were struggling to keep up with the increase in crime and it was beginning to show to the city's criminals. Before all hope could be lost, and shining flash of white appeared, the vigilante know as Sharpshooter had entered the scene. He seemed to glide around as he helped in the fight against the Galra Gang. The Gang grew angry at the increased resistance and hatched a merciless plan.
They kidnapped a ten-year-old girl and dragged her into one of their warehouses. They police had arrived on scene and secured the perimeter, but before they could even act, the same little girl came running out unharmed and claiming that Sharpshooter had saved her. The police had all on their attention on the girl that they didn't realize that the warehouse had been set on fire until more of the building was engulfed. They quickly got to work on dousing the flames and searching for any survivors who ran out of the flames. They caught several members of the Galra Gang, but the high-ranking Generals and Sharpshooter were never seen existing the building and were not found among the debris.
The citizens feared for their born-and-bred hero when news broke out about Sharpshooter's disappearance. It wasn't until two months later that Sharpshooter was seen again, but something was different. His appearance had darkened, and he worked almost solely at night now and refused to interact with any citizens who tried to call out to him. The more experienced vigilante known as Winger started making a more prominent appearance in Altea City as well. Previously, Winger had been jumping from city to city but now it seemed he called Altea City his home.
Chief Alfor frowned. It was strange, for several months after the re-appearance of Sharpshooter, him and Winger were never seen in the same place at the same time. It was only ever one of them. After a few more months, both of the vigilantes made an appearance at the same time and continued in their fight against the Galra Gang.
The chief looked over the case file that involved the Gang and the vigilantes. He had assigned Detectives Shirogane and Kogane to try and catch the vigilantes by order of the mayor. So far, they didn't have much information, but it was slowly coming together as they worked together with the help of CSI Katie Holt, more commonly known as Pidge. He reached for his cup of coffee and muffin that his daughter Allura had brought him from the Space Goo Bakery that she worked at. Allura had always planned on going to law school, but she ended up taking a break before going after the sudden death of her mother. It was hard on both of them, but Chief Alfor smiled as he thought of the friendships she had made while working closely with the Space Goo Bakery's owner Hunk and knew they would be able to get through this.
On the vigilante side, Sharpshooter had mostly recovered from being captured by the Galra, but still had days where he struggled mentally with what happened to him, or the physical injury to his left leg. Lance, on the other hand, was the happy-go-lucky guy who was always willing to help out his best buddy Hunk with his bakery delivers.
Winger kept a close eye on Lance since he had come to Altea City and posed as Sharpshooter for a few months. He hated it, but he knew that the city needed the hope that Sharpshooter brought and not the brooding Winger that he was. Winger still felt guilty over what had happened to Sharpshooter and tried to fight the Galra Gang solo as much as possible to avoid putting Lance in the field again. Sometimes, Winger bit off more than he could in his attempts to protect Lance.
The secret third member of their little team was non other than Matt Holt the older brother of Pidge. He was known simply as Watcher and shared command of Wingers drones to keep on eye on the two vigilantes and everyone else in the area.
Another member, who had been recently and quite frankly unwillingly added to the team was Curtis. A medical student who volunteered at the hospital. He was dragged into the world of vigilantes in order to help the injured Sharpshooter recover after his capture.
Right now, Curtis was racing towards a Galra Gang compound that Winger had infiltrated in the middle of the day when it was supposed to be less guarded. It turned out to be a trap, and while Watcher attempted to regain his view through the drone called Odoroki, Curtis was wearing a mask and speeding an unmarked car to the location to help Winger once he got out. All of this was happening without the knowledge of Sharpshooter who was currently occupied as being Lance as he helped Hunk to make his deliveries.
Now, let's see how Winger is holding up against the ambush in the Galra General's compound…
