Chaos Stories

1. It's Cliched

Okay, so this is a cliche that has been really overdone, to the point that I could probably outline what happens in a majority of them right off the bat. A new camper shows up at Camp Half-Blood, usually a son of Zeus or Poseidon. Slowly but surely, he spread a bunch of lies and rumors and turns the whole camp against Percy.

Time-out for a sec. What? In almost every one of these I read, the entire camp chooses a total stranger over PERCY FREAKING JACKSON. You know, the one that saved the world a few dozen times? Beloved by all? No? Okay, moving on.

So then, for some reason, the entire camp believes all these lies, and start shutting Percy out, or downright insulting him, until he only has Annabeth left. Because she's the only person left that doesn't hate him, he decides to propose. It's then that he stumbles upon Annabeth and said son of Zeus or Poseidon making out and trash-talking him.

Time-out again. WHAT? Seriously, #nevergonnahappen. Wow, I don't hashtag unless it's true. That settles it, everybody go home.

Anyway, next Percy runs away from camp and some way or another, he meets Chaos, lord of the universe, and becomes a soldier in his army. He gets a bunch of blessings and becomes super powerful until ONE DAY he gets sent on a mission back to Earth to stop some kind of rising evil. Again. Then we all get to see how the world has changed, Percy gets to fight the moronic idiot who ruined his life, blah blah blah.

Another popular twist is having Percy be put on trial for betraying Olympus, then Zeus kills him. (Or so he thinks.) Then, Chaos shows up and tells all the gods how much they stink for killing their hero. And the same ending occurs, with Chaos saving Percy or bringing him back from the dead.

So, yeah. Pretty cliched. But the reason cliched stories are cliche is because we all like to read them. The issue with this is that we end up with a bunch of sloppy, SUPER cliched Chaos stories that all follow the same plot, and just a few really good, detailed ones with their own little twists and backstories and personality. It takes awhile to sift through the former and get to the latter.

2. Pertemis

Yep. We're back to this.

I won't put you through my torture, though. For my rant about Pertemis and it's unrealistic, forced tendencies, see chapter one.

My problem is that most, if not all Chaos stories are also Pertemis stories. Now, this is my opinion, so you don't have to agree, but it kind of ruins the actual basis for the story when the whole thing turns into a cheesy romance between two characters that would never actually fall in love. I'm a hardcore Percabeth shipper though, so I'm biased. Still, I wish there were more Chaos stories that ended with Percy and Annabeth together, or frankly, Percy being single. I'd be okay with that.

3. Percy is WAY too OP

I have no problems with Percy being the most powerful demigod ever. In fact, I like it that way. But when he has tons of different blessings and new powers and weird weapons that have weirder names, it's not as fun to read. And on a side-note, why do fanfiction writers feel the need to name every weapon Percy has? Seriously, I can't keep up with it. Example:

Percy drew Whiplash as he pivoted towards his opponent. The blades clashed, sending sparks into the air. Skullcrusher was burning a hole in his pocket, but he didn't dare use his most powerful weapon this early. Instead, his hidden knives Arnis and Arnos slid into his free hand.

Do you see what I mean? Anyway, I just think that introducing a whole bunch of new planets, powers, and immortal beings requires a lot of backstory that a lot of writers aren't patient enough for.

I think that about covers it, let me know what the next chapter should be about! I have some ideas, but I want to know what you guys think. I hope you enjoyed this chapter!
