"Marry me?"
"What?"
"What?" Blaine parroted.
"Did you just…." Kurt froze, his arms around Blaine's neck.
"I uh, I guess I did….." Blaine's hands fidgeted where they rested on his boyfriends hips. "Um, well….I…"
"Did you mean it?"
"Did you want me to mean it?"
"Did you want me to want you to mean it?"
"Did you want me to want you to want….wait I'm confused." Blaine frowned trying to figure out where in the conversation he was supposed to be.
"Blaine, can I pull my pants up first? My balls are getting kinda chilly." Kurt chuckled, dropping his arms to reach for his pants.
"Oh my god I proposed with your cock out." Blaine helped Kurt redress himself before they moved over to the couch. "I'm such an idiot, I wish my mouth would just stay closed sometimes." Blaine dropped his hands into his head and sighed.
"Blaine, listen to me. I love that your mouth runs away with you sometimes but stop for a moment and really think about what you've just asked." Kurt rubbed Blaine's back gently.
"I know it sounds crazy and maybe it's not show choirs and roses and maybe I should have waited until you were wearing underwear but….yeah…..we've both told each other we want to be everything to each other and we keep talking about things as if our future is together. I guess I got carried away with things-"
"Blaine-"
"-and yeah it's really soon after we started dating again but it's not like we've never been engaged before except this time we know what the warnings signs are so we know what to watch out for. And we both have our own space in the apartment-"
"Blaine!"
"-so we won't have to be on top of each other all the time, well we could if we wanted to but when we don't it won't be like before-"
"Blaine can you shut up so I can say yes?!" Kurt grabbed at Blaine's face making him stop talking.
"Sorry, I just get carried away sometimes and I wait what - yes?" Blaine's eyebrows rose as Kurt's grin grew bigger.
"It's always been you Blaine, we're endgame. There's no-one else I'd ever want to spend my life with." Kurt smiled at Blaine's love-filled expression. "Yes, I'll marry you."
"You will?! Oh my god you're serious?! We're engaged again! We need to tell Burt and Carole and ohmygod what if they hate me for it cos it's so soon and I-" Blaine was silenced by Kurt's lips pressing against his and as he melted into the kiss all his thoughts evaporated.
… … … … … … … … … … … … … … …
The rest of the day passed in a haze of kisses and excited giggles with the conversation eventually turning towards the topic of a wedding.
"Do you think we should start planning or just go to city hall?" Kurt mused.
"I think we should tell your dad first because he's gonna kill me if he finds out you got married and never told him!" Blaine responded, "do you think…..will he still like me?" Blaine's expression softened as he bit in his bottom lip.
"Why wouldn't he? You know he loves you like another son."
"Yeah but that was before we called off our last engagement, before I was…y'know."
"I don't know how he's going to react to that B, but he's always surprised me with his reactions to things so I think he'll pleasantly surprised us both again." Kurt pulled his new fiancé into his arms, stroking his arm softly. "Do you want to see if him and Carole are available just now?"
"I guess delaying things won't make them any easier to say." Blaine shifted a little so Kurt could dig his phone out from his pocket and dial his father's number.
"Hey kiddo! I wasn't expecting to hear from you!" Burt's happy gruff voice came through the speakerphone.
"Hi dad, I thought I'd give you a call and update you on a few things that have happened. Are you at home with Carole?"
"Yeah, she's just making coffee in the kitchen. Here she is - it's Kurt!"
"Hi Kurt!" Carole's voice made Blaine's stomach clench in anticipation.
"Um, Blaine is here too. You're on speakerphone." Kurt glanced at the curly-haired man in his arms as they both sat up a little straighter.
"Blaine! Oh my gosh we were just saying we hoped you were doing well! How did you guys get back in touch?" Carole grinned, clapping her hands excitedly.
"Hi Carole, hi Burt." Blaine looked at the phone nervously.
"Dad, I'm gonna call you back on FaceTime okay?"
A minute later, Kurt & Blaine were looking at Burt and Carole on Kurt's iPad screen - all 4 of them smiling at each other.
"Carole, Dad - we have something to tell you but before all that I think Blaine should tell you how we got back in touch with each other." Kurt smiled at Blaine and nodded.
Blaine skimmed over the particulars of how he came to be HIV positive but told them about his diagnosis, being disowned and kicked out by his parents, calling Kurt, Kurt letting his crash with him, them both moving to a bigger apartment and their eventual reconciliation.
"Oh Blaine, we're so sorry you've been through all that." Carole's eyes were brimming with tears, "if there's anything Burt or I can do just let us know okay? Have you spoken to a doctor?"
"Yeah, he's put me on medication - and Kurt too to make sure he stays safe. He's really nice. Burt, I'm so sorry."
"No apologies kid, we all make mistakes and you're paying for yours enough. Let's just focus on the future and how to keep you as healthy is possible." Burt smiled kindly.
"Well, that's sort of why we called." Kurt took Blaine's hand and smiled at his dad and step-mom. "We're…we're engaged. Again!"
"What? Really?!" Carole squeals of delight drowned out anything Burt was trying to say as she hugged him and kissed his cheek. "Our boys are engaged!"
"Are you both sure about this?" Burt asked, his face giving nothing away.
"Yes dad, ever since I found Blaine on that bench I've wanted to be with him again. We know it's going to be hard but we both think we've grown and are more aware of what it will take to make this relationship - and a marriage work."
"I know what you must be thinking Burt but I'll never risk Kurt's safety or health. I love him too much for that." Blaine interjected, feeling a little uneasy at Burt's reaction.
"I trust you kid, I know you both care too much for each other to risk the other. You two have always been a package deal since you met. I'm happy for you both. Just make sure you give Carole enough notice to buy a hat!" Burt chuckled as his wife swatted his shoulder playfully.
"Oh please, as if I don't already have it in the closet! I knew you two would find each other again." Carole smiled and blew them both kisses through the screen.
The rest of the conversation passed easily as Burt told Kurt about a classic car that had been brought into the garage earlier in the week. Although he'd reduced his hours after a few health scares, Burt loved his work too much to give it up completely just yet. Blaine rested against Kurt's side and listened quietly to the conversation, realising just how much he'd missed Burt & Carole. They'd always felt more like parents to him than his own and he felt lucky that they'd embraced him again so easily.
Carole was making soft aah sounds a short time later when Kurt caught her eye and she gestured towards the now sleeping Blaine. Kurt's smile widened as he kissed the top of the curly head cuddled in beside him.
"I should probably finish up and let Blaine sleep. He's had a lot on his plate with school recently."
"Of course, call us later kiddo and give Blaine our love. We're here for you both." Burt smiled.
"Thanks dad. I know that'll mean a lot to him and it does to me too. We love you dad, and you of course Carole!"
"Speak to you later Kurt."
Kurt moved his iPad and managed to twist himself to lay along the wide couch and hold Blaine a little tighter. As he ran his fingers through the dark curly hair he began to imagine how their life would play out. He pictured coming home to his husband after a long day at work, the smell of dinner cooking permeating through the apartment as a young girl with long, chestnut brown curly hair falling around her angelic face came running from her bedroom to hug his legs.
Kurt swallowed hard. Would the dream in his head ever come to fruition? Would Blaine want to have children? Could Blaine have children? He'd always imagined kids being part of his future but then he'd always imagined him & Blaine being together since high school and already married by now. Plans change and that's okay, maybe this would be okay too? He kissed Blaine's forehead tenderly and smiled. Who cares what's ahead - he had the love of his life in his arms and a wedding to plan.
